Is anybody still up?
Couple of notes for you:
In 21 games, the starter has failed to get through five innings 11 times. Yankee starters are 0-5 with a 9.40 ERA in the last seven games.
The losing streak is the longest since the 2000 team ended the season with seven straight losses.
Abreu is 2 of his last 26 with 11 K’s. He’s swinging and missing, which you don’t see a lot of with him.
Giambi has hit in 10 straight at 17 of 37. Interesting to see how he progressed against Okajima. He fanned badly against him last Friday, fanned again Saturday but fouled one straight back that he almost had. He faced him Sunday and popped up then today he had a single. When he faces him again, bet he doubles.
Matsuzaka against the Yankees: 13 13 10 10 5 14. I can’t say I’m knocked out. But he can throw six or seven pitches for strikes (two-seamer, four-seamer, curve, change, slider, splitter and a backdoor slider) and he battles.
How teams react when they seem him a second or third time will be telling.
Here is Joe’s postgame:
Catch you tomorrow.
