Cashman is awful. He's had two years to build something here, and before you say that's not a very long time, that's all it took for Omar Minaya to turn the Mets into the best team in the NL and he certainly started with much less. Give the controls to Billy Beane, Terry Ryan, or Loria with the money that we have available and I guarantee you this team would not have entered the season with such a fragile rotation. Can anyone even say they are that surprised by what's happened to the rotation? It's not like what happened was unforeseeable, yet this is the team Cashman chose when he could have given us reliable starters in guys like Lilly, Meche, or Suppan. Instead he became a cheapskate and refused to shell out the money that we fans spend on the damn team on something reliable. He's become someone who bets on longshots. Things like Aaron Small coming along and winning 10 games without a loss don't just happen, you can't bet on the team finding something like that to get past these early season difficulties. The Red Sox are also a much stronger team this year than they were in '05. So I don't buy the '05 comparison. We were extremely lucky that year and last year, we shouldn't simply count on our luck continuing when we had the ability to put ourselves in a more secure position over this offseason. Cashman CANNOT get a pass for counting on Pavano to be part of this rotation. That blunder is just inexcusable, especially when you are also bringing in a highly questionable unproven Japanese starter as your number 5. FIRE CASHMAN NOW. I don't think it can be any clearer that that is the best decision that could be made at this point.
