Good riddance. The guy clearly wasnt doing his job. They better bring in someone soon to start working with these guys.....or we could be in for more injuries.

something had to happen and since the losses keep pilling up and the injuries, it only seems fitting that the trainer not the manager get axed, heck with all those hamstring injuries by the pitchers that was only odvious since that is not a common injury for a pitcher

Great background on Miller. It looks like a blunder by Cash for sure. Changes like this
should not be made at the last minute. An S&T coach matters. I hope that the next choice works out.

Number one yes the injuries have been frequent, but Cashman has to stop this I take full responsibility crap, I know almost for a fact that Joe Torre has done a poor job, that's plain and simple injuries didn't make him use Pettitte in Fenway twice and get trigger happy w/ the bullpen, I want Cashman here for the future he's building a good system his hires are finding talented players in the draft and in the intl. scene example Zach McCallister and Jose Tabata.

When Torre leaves we'll have a new game manager,Marty Miller is gone his strength and conditioning was 1/4 of the problem when I read that the players didn't commit to his regimen well then that's also on the Yankees players, but is your S&T coach can't keep them healthy then yup I agree fully w/ this decision , and Hughes was the final straw for me.

Here's hoping Cashman stays and builds us a new dynasty.

Nice background Peter. It does seem odd to hire what really should be thought of as an important position and basically the last minute. Almost smacks of desparation & panic.

Why was to position open so long?

I heard Cashman talk about this with Suzyn Waldman a bit ago

It seemed pretty clear that the big problem was that Miller didn't get along with the players. Sounded like he didn't want to compromise. So players just did their own thing.

In fact, Cashman pointed out that players WERE equipped with stretching bands, and could do their own stretching prep on their own.

He also pointed out that several of the injured players were NOT using Miller's regimen, and that players using it were not injured.

The disconnect is clear - the strength and conditioning coach should still supervise and talk to every player about his program - whether it was one designed by the player's personal trainer or not.

"I take full responsibility. But not the blame. Let me explain the difference. People who are to blame lose their jobs, people who are responsible do not." David Frye imitating Richard Nixon, 1973

Amazing that so little thought was given to this whole thing. Hiring the conditioning coach right before spring training? Sounds like an afterthought.
