Tomorrow’s game times

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on May 02, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

The Rangers just announced that tomorrow is now a day/night doubleheader because of television considerations in Texas.

Game 1 starts at 3:35 (EST).

Game 2 starts at 8:05 (EST).

It’s a single-admission doubleheader but the second game starts at 8:05 no matter what.

Doesnt leave much time for Game 1. With the way the Yanks hit (and pitch lately)

  2. R.B. May 2nd, 2007 at 10:27 pm

Hey Pete, Dom Amore in the Hartford Courant is reporting that Carl Pavano is going to see Dr. Andrews in ‘Bama and may need TJ surgery. Anything to it?

  3. Rocco May 2nd, 2007 at 10:32 pm

what if it goes 15 innings?

  4. jp May 2nd, 2007 at 10:37 pm

    this was the report

The Pavano news is bad. He had been throwing on the side, and got up on the mound on Sunday, but though the team kept saying he was getting better, he didn’t seem so optimistic. He is going to see Dr. James Andrews in Alabama and may, in fact, need Tommy John surgery, which would finish him for this season and probably next season, too, possibly ending is career

  5. Matt May 2nd, 2007 at 10:38 pm

“No Matter What” sounds scary. What does that mean?

  6. Stephen May 2nd, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Matt, the “no matter what” is likely because tomorrow is a travel day, and MLB has restrictions on how late a game can start if a team has to fly out afterwards.

  7. Matt May 2nd, 2007 at 10:43 pm

So what happens if game one goes 18 innings?

  8. Jake May 2nd, 2007 at 10:43 pm

    Who’s counting on Pavano?

That ship sailed. He blew his last chance to show he had some pride.

  9. Alan May 2nd, 2007 at 10:44 pm

What happens if the first game hasn’t finish at 8.05pm? Extra innings or not.

Would they suspend the unfinished first game and start the second game? Or they would just call time and game?

    Alan

  10. Rey22 May 2nd, 2007 at 10:53 pm

Well, if he gets TJ surgery at least he’ll have a legitimate reason to be on the DL.

  11. Seth May 2nd, 2007 at 10:56 pm

I think the 8:05 is because that game was scheduled to be on local cable (my9 kind of thing)

So they can’t have game 1 end at 6:30 and have game 2 start at 7, because the channel won’t be ready for it.

  12. YanksFanLV May 2nd, 2007 at 10:56 pm

Man, it’s to bad we didn’t trade him off during the spring when he was somewhat (laugh) healthy. Pavano is a sunk cost, move on and trade someone for CC Sabathia or Fausto Carmona (sp?)

  13. Daniel May 2nd, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Yeah I read the Courant blog as well. A visit to Dr.Andrews is never good, TJ or not.

  14. R.B. May 2nd, 2007 at 11:01 pm

“Pavano is a sunk cost, move on and trade someone for CC Sabathia or Fausto Carmona (sp?)”

There is absolutely zero chance of the Indians trading Sabathia to the Yankees. Carmona would come very expensive.

  15. Emobacca May 2nd, 2007 at 11:04 pm

Lets try to stay away from stupid trade proposals.

Is there any plans for a candle-light vigil in memory of Carl’s career?

  16. RSM May 2nd, 2007 at 11:05 pm

    Who’s this Pavano guy?

  17. Daniel May 2nd, 2007 at 11:07 pm

“Is there any plans for a candle-light vigil in memory of Carl’s career?”

No. But there will be one in memoriam of all of the money that was senselessly wasted on him.

  18. Sparky May 2nd, 2007 at 11:09 pm

My buddy hit a homer off Pavano in American Legion Ball, I have no respect for him, I thought my buddy was actually good at baseball.

  19. RSM May 2nd, 2007 at 11:10 pm

    YanksFanLV:

Who do you plan on trading for CC Sabathia?
Why on earth would Cleveland trade him?
Unless someone here has very incriminating photos of the Indians owner, I don’t see that happening.
Let’s just call that a tad bit unrealistic.

  20. Scooter May 2nd, 2007 at 11:16 pm

If Dr Andrews finds something, do we collectively apologize for calling Pavano a gutless wuss? Just curious

I have no idea why we’re tossing out pitchers’ names. The one thing we have is organizational pitching depth

Clippard is no Hughes, but he’s pretty good.

DeSalvo might not be so bad

I don’t think Ohlendorf or Wright are far off.

There’s a guy named Marquez at Trenton who isn’t bad

Look for former #1 pick Ian Kennedy to get a bump to Trenton very soon.

Hughes WILL be back this year.

The whole idea is to develop pitching from within.

  21. YanksFanLV May 2nd, 2007 at 11:35 pm

My apologies for anyone taking my sarcastic CC Sabathia comment seriously. Just venting frustration at Carl “broke down” Pavano.

  22. Stormy May 2nd, 2007 at 11:37 pm

Don’t kill a guy for a trade proposal that makes sense. C.C. Sabathia is going to be a free agent soon. The Indians don’t feel they can re-sign both him and Hafner, so they might be inclined to trade C.C. before they lose him.

Personally, I would stay away from C.C. He’s big, he’s strong, and he’s good — but he always gets hurt and he seems a bit inconsistent. He’s probably a legit two starter in the AL, but he’s not worth giving up Hughes and/or Tabata, which is what the Indians would want.

  23. Runner May 2nd, 2007 at 11:50 pm

Rasner, Ohlendorf, Clippard, DeSalvo. All soft-tossing AAAA pitchers at best. sad, sad, sad, sad.

  24. Gayle May 2nd, 2007 at 11:50 pm

I [personally had high hopes for Carl this year,I should have known better. Also how can it be a single admission double header what if you bought tickets for t6he night game and someone who had tickets for today’s game has the same seats

  25. the lopper May 2nd, 2007 at 11:55 pm

runner. it is sad but u’re correct. betweeen Rasner, Ohlendorf, Clippard, and DeSalvo i think the yanks have a AAA staff of number 5 starters. the only real gem was hughes. since they have an abundance of semi talented border line “prospects” maybe they can package them all together for something they can actually use, like a back up catcher or first baseman or a young starter, yes i know it never hurts to have too much pitching, but it doesn’t really help either if you have a bunch of back end of the rotation guys at best. its good to know that there are some talented guys in A ball, so we’ll have to wait a few years for someone to join phil hughes from the system whos worthwhile.

  26. Runner May 2nd, 2007 at 11:55 pm

    Pete,
unless he does one or more of the following, please do not post anything related to Pavano anymore.

    (1) Pitches perfect game for Yanks
    (2) Clinches World Series for Yanks
    (3) Giving back $35 of the 40 Mil.

  27. David May 3rd, 2007 at 12:06 am

Clippard is a very good prospect who projects to be a good #3 in the bigs. He’s not a soft tosser. He sits around 90 and can get to 92-93 and has a great curve ball.

  28. Scooter May 3rd, 2007 at 12:06 am

Not to confuse Runner and Lopper with facts:
Ohlendorf throws a sinker consistently at 92-94, and tops at 95

Clippard throws 90-92 with command, and a plus curve and change

    DeSalvo tops out at 95

Nice move to mix in Rasner with the others

And a news flash for the slow: DeSalvo and Rasner are not prospects. Creates a nice straw man for Runner and Lopper

So is Runner the sockpuppet for Lopper to talk to? Or is it vice versa?

  29. Drew May 3rd, 2007 at 12:08 am

Yankees website says the 2nd game is scheduled for 7:35

  30. Jamie May 3rd, 2007 at 12:08 am

Question for DirecTV (or cable) Extra Innings veterans. The only game listed tomorrow is the regularly scheduled 8:05 game. Can I expect that the same channel will have the first game of the doubleheader as well? Or will it be on a different random channel or not at all?

  31. Brandon May 3rd, 2007 at 12:11 am

let me just say this if I ever see Carl Pavano aka ICU-ANO in the street the NYPD might have to take me in. I will make sure us Yankees fans don’t ever have to wonder if he’s going to pitch or not.

  32. randyhater May 3rd, 2007 at 12:21 am

I like Chase Wright and thought their pulling the plug on him so quickly was a typical kneejerk reaction to the statistical oddity of giving up four straight home runs.

It wouldn’t have made ESPN, but it would have bothered me more if he gave up one home run, got spooked and walked the next three guys, and then gave up back to back doubles. I liked that he stayed agressive and I think its easier to teach discretion to a guy who’s b*lls are too big than it is to toughen up a guy who’s afraid of contact.

I also like that he went down and had another good game (6 inn., 5 H, 2 ER, 6 SO, albiet at AA) instead of sulking like alot of guys do. I’ve got more faith in him than Ohlendorf, Jackson, and Desalvo combined, though I wouldn’t mind seeing Clippard put to the test.

  33. Buddy Biancalana May 3rd, 2007 at 12:22 am

Direct TV (Extra Innings)will usually show both games, they hardly ever update their website to reflect that though. I am looking forward to a double dip myself.

  34. Buddy Biancalana May 3rd, 2007 at 12:24 am

    Jamie-

Both games if televised will most likely be on the same channel.

  35. Peter Abraham May 3rd, 2007 at 12:36 am

Yes, Pavano is going to see Andrews. I didn’t do an update because I wanted to get back to the hotel and I’m of writing about Pavano. It’s far too early to say he’ll need TJ surgery but that wouldn’t surprise anybody.

  36. Jamie May 3rd, 2007 at 12:38 am

Thanks Buddy. I’ll set the DVR for the whole thing on the original channel and hope for the best!

  37. vin May 3rd, 2007 at 12:46 am

I couldn’t agree more. I hope Wright pitches again this year in the big leagues (as I’m sure the opening(s) will be there)… in a weird way, he got a raw deal. He’s not going to be the next Andy Pettitte, but I’d take a serviceable 4th or 5th starter right about now.

  38. vin May 3rd, 2007 at 12:46 am

If *Pavano* does have TJ surgery, then it’s pretty likely that he won’t pitch for the Yankees again during this contract. That’s 19 games started, and earning 39.95 million = *$2.1 million per start*… or *$358,832 per inning*.

Compare that with *Clemens* last year:
    18 million, 19 starts = *$947,368 per start* or *$158,823 per inning*.

    What a bargain.

  39. CGramazio May 3rd, 2007 at 12:58 am

The greatest trick Carl Pavano ever pulled, was convincing the world he DID exist.

  40. Billy Mo May 3rd, 2007 at 1:00 am

Vin, haha, I think you just made all of us readers sick just realizing how that math would shake out.

  41. art vandelay May 3rd, 2007 at 1:10 am

the signing of pavano proves that you have to develop pitching. its just too risky to throw that kind of money at someone. the yanks are on the right track. can’t wait to see how some of these “A” ball guys turn out.

  42. Matt May 3rd, 2007 at 1:21 am

I threw up a little when I saw that Clemens comparison

  43. jennifer May 3rd, 2007 at 8:19 am

Look on the bright side Pavano will be back to pitch for us next year he is in his contract year, so he’ll pitch very well. and he’ll find some stupid team to give him another 40 million dollar contract.

  44. Rufus May 3rd, 2007 at 8:37 am

    Pavano. What a joke.

You got guys wanting to pitch with broken legs and pulled hammy’s and his hurt butt wont take the ball.

  45. David May 3rd, 2007 at 9:06 am

What’s a joke is people saying that Pavano should be trying to pitch with major ligament damage in his elbow. This coming from people that likely call in sick to work if they have a little cold.

  46. elwoods May 3rd, 2007 at 1:09 pm

    David:
Major ligament damage? You were able to read that from the news that he’s planning to visit a doctor? Wow, you must have crazy skills to be able to give a diagnosis through osmosis.
