20 straight for Jeter

Another game, another hit for Derek Jeter. That’s a 20-game hit streak for the captain, who has hit safely in an amazing 59 of the last 61 games.

Meanwhile Hammerin’ Doug Mientkiewicz is up to .169 and has eight RBI.

Jason Giambi is out of the lineup, replaced by Johnny Damon. No word why as of yet but I would suspect it has something to do with a leg cramp. That’s what slowed him up going to third in the eighth inning of Game 1.

Mussina is out after only 64 pitches and five innings. That doesn’t seem like a good sign. His pitch count was supposed to be around 80. But this was his first start since going only two innings on April 11. Considering he had no rehab starts, his arm strength couldn’t have been great.

More on that as it becomes available.
