    Weather???

  2. Bill

DeSalvo will walk at least 8 batters.

  3. trapper700

DeSalvo is a horrible call… should have been Clippard. DeSalvo had issues going longer than 5 innings in AAA, he’s not going to be able to do it in the majors.

  4. Pat

See Peter.. Millwood is not a minor leaguer who just got called up.. he had his exercises.. build up his body.. filled his body and still hurt his hammy..

that “see!!” shud be for u.. for ur take on Hughes

  5. Josh

I wanna see clippard, im SO SICK OF RASNER

  6. Josh

    also, pat:

hughes admitted to stepping a little too hard because he was trying to make the perfect pitch, if he was a vetern lke milwood, he wouldnt have done that.

but hughes has learned his lesson, thankfully in may and not september.

  7. SJ44

Clippard pitched yesterday. He would have been unavailable to pitch on Sunday.

Looks like they went the safe and available route. Sunday is DeSalvo’s turn to pitch and they probably didn’t want 2 straight pitchers making their ML debuts back to back.

  8. Scooter

Whatever happens, DeSalvo has really redeemed himself after a terrible 2006 and being DFA’ed in the offseason

Look – if DeSalvo or Rasner struggle, I’m sure we’ll see Clippard

DeSalvo is older, and has good pure stuff – didn’t Jorge say in ST that it was the best pure stuff in camp?

He’s also a published writer – should make a great interview, Pete.

  9. Ryan

Which inning will Giambi be subbed in for? I’ll say bottom of the 7th.

  10. TurnTwo

yeah, i’m so sick of watching Rasner pitch relatively effectively, too!

  11. TurnTwo

    sarcasm, btw.

  12. James Bond

    forget you Rasner.
    you better be good DeSalvo.

  13. Chris

I wish Clippard would have been called up. I am sick on fringe major leaguers making the majority of our starts.

  14. Matt

Nothing frightens me more than when someone raves about a pitchers “stuff.” 11 times out of 10 theres a reason he’s saying “stuff” and not pitching. Usually means we’re in for a 7 walk 5 IP affair.

  15. Pat

    Josh,

every pitcher reaches back when they know its THE out to get.. which our is THE OUT depends on the pitcher.. are u telling me that with 2 on 2 out.. a closer doesnt reach back or bend more or whatever to get that OUT..

  16. Go NYR

Peter, on the Yankees.com message board they have been calling Kyle “Farnsworthless” since the first season he was signed.

  17. James Bond

For the health and well-being of Andy and Moose, the times for today’s group pray sessions are:

    3:25 EDT

    6:55 EDT

    Anyone volunteer to lead?

  18. Merlin

Group Pray.. we play a series against Texas and look at the effect.. that State.. hmm

  19. BillyJoBob

Paperwork, paperwork. Imagine all that paperwork on the options and DL. Oy.

  20. nyy7

2 things. First, Rasner is pretty solid and Id rather have him than Karstens (in a situation obviously where Karstens wasnt healthy.)

Second, I dont understand why with the bullpen struggles Britton cant have a longer stay in the majors. He was a solid reliever in the AL east last year, and is dominating AAA this year. Even though Bean can pitch more innings, Britton is a much better pitcher. Britton should be the one to stay until a spot is needed for Desalvo and Rasner.

  21. James Bond

We need an exorcist too (for Pavano). anyone?

  22. SlickBomb

DeSalvo will be a good experiment. It’s worth it to NY to see what he can contribute to the big club. If he can’t play, he’ll go into the dustbin of Tim Redding’s and Darrel May’s of the baseball. Good look, Matt!

  23. Chris NY

If Giambi could play a better 1B and could hold up from injuries through the year doing so, this would be my favorite line-up with what we have…..

  24. Colin

I would’ve liked to have seen Giambi batting 3rd and Abreu batting 5th. But I guess guys have to pitch to him when he’s in front of A Rod.

Also, Pete, how’s the Giambi interview coming?

  25. Cumberberg

Thanks Slickbomb… With the help of my therapist, I thought I’d finally gotten over the dastardly duo of Redding and May. Now I’ll wake up in the middle of the night screaming again.

  26. Erick

I hope Britton gets a chance to pitch and Torre has confidence in sending him out there during a blow out (cause the Yanks will blow out the Rangers) other wise poor guy having to be shuttled back and forth again to sit in a dug out.

  27. General Tsos Chicken

DeSalvo AND Rasner? What happened to Kei Igawa??

  28. Bill

The Yankees need to get to this guy early and get to their bullpen. Force their starter later tonight to go 7 innings, which is highly unlikely.

  29. Bill

Igawa is pitching tomorrow, so having him pitch 2 games over a 2 1/2 day span wouldn’t be ideal.

  30. art vandelay

did they have to remove anyone on the 40 man for deSalvo ? or was he already on there ?

  31. Marc

    General Tsos Chicken

Iggy is pitching Friday and Wang Saturday.

  32. Ken

How many options do they have on Britton? and how many options is there on a player anyway? I always just hear “he has no more options.”

  33. John

Rasner sucks. Nothing we have in AAA is even passable at this point.

  34. R.B.

Just out of curiosity, who’s pitching Tuesday and Wednesday? I know Pettitte and Mussina, but in what order?

  35. General Tsos Chicken

I forgot about Friday. My bad.

  36. Matt

I would guess Mussina then Pettitte to keep Moose on schedule.

  37. Stormy

Wow — a roll call in Texas. Weird.

I agree it should have been Clippard over DeSalvo. Since neither was on the 40-man, it was a call soley based on who they thought would be better.

    You can’t ignore DeSalvo’s wildness.

I think Clippard should have gotten his feet wet. There seems little doubt he’ll be needed in the big leagues next year.

  38. Peter Abraham

    A few things:

I don’t go on any message boards except this one. Thanks anyway.

DeSalvo has pitched significantly better than Clippard. Beyond that, do you think maybe the Yankees have some kind of an idea as to who is ready? Plus there are 40-man roster considerations

  39. Deep to Left

Weather down there is presently dry… maybe a shower or t-storm later – but looks ok for at least several hours.

  40. Ryan

Pettite not going to make it out of the 6th today

  41. Nick B.

DeSalvo looks like a good call to me. He doesn’t have to be the savior of this team, 6IP less than 5ER is all it will take to get a W against any AL west team.

I missed the Lieber for Farns discussion but I don’t mind it, wish there was another starter available thats better than Rasner/Lieber but still available for Farns straight up. This will probably not be liked but Jeff Weaver is probably available and he’s only got a one year deal. I know he sucked his first go round but had a good October, pitched better against the Tigers than all our guys did. I really hope Moose/Pettitte pitch well today.

  42. SANTI

Pettite will settle down and pitch into the 7th.

  43. TurnTwo

I just read Weaver’s name in association with the Yankees, and had a little bit of vomit come up into my mouth.

  44. Bill

    TURNTWO:

Rasner has given up nine runs — six earned — in 14 innings for the Yankees this season.

So, in your eyes, this is effective pitching?

  45. Mo

6 earned runs over 14 innings comes out to 2 starts of 3 runs over 7, which i would take from my 5th starter any day. Even 9 comes out to about 4 runs over 6, which isnt too bad either, with the yankee offense,

  46. Bill

But he hasn’t even gotten close to the 7th inning, so whats your point? He’s giving these runs up in bunches.

  47. Mo

His ERA is 3.86. In one start Joe pulled him early, in the other he pitched into the 6th after allowing 3 unearned in the first. He’s had one bad performance. 3.86 from the 5th starter who should be the 8th starter if everyone was healthy. He deserves a chance to pitch, he pitched well last year as well.
