strummerson:

yes, we can afford it, and it is needed. did you notice the fun in the dugout. sometimes watching a guy used to failure finally succeeding wanting and trying so hard to be considered part of something, can bring just the spark needed to get rolling.

Anyone who has ever been at a T-Ball game will see the hunor in this...

Jeter on the postgame about Nieves trying to run his single into a double said it was like Little League, he just kept running until someone tagged him out.

hmmm

From the other thread, regarding Clemens being "Just a Guy"

"and you’re JAI. guess what the I stands for?"

I almost drowned the keyboard when I read that. Things are always funnier after a good win.

Shouldn't you just say that dennis rasssssmussssen is JAI?

PeterAbe, you really need to do a cross-match of IPs as was suggested. Too many wingnuts in Idiotville.

i don't usually like much from bill james, but his pythagorean standings is interesting. despite all the injury problems, the yankees are only three games back in espn's ExWL standings.
what this means is that with the plus scoring differential the yankees have they should be three games better than they are.
just like nieves having bad luck that none of his 19 balls put in play( before tonight)found a hole the yankees have had some bad luck to be six games back, according to james they should only be three back.
even playing at low ebb the yankees hung close( in the expaned standings). the red sox have their problems. lugo and crisp hit one and two tonight and are hitting respectively .227 and.228. and this is without being injured. lugo and crisp are both wound pretty tight for the fenway spotlight. as the season goes on the pressure only increases.
if the yankees play their game, they should be in good shape.

for the record, the Sox ARE a good team. i'm not in denial that the Sox are good.

but the Yankee are good too. they have just had an unfortunate string of injuries.

Boston has not had a single significant injury yet.

if they go the whole season without any injuries, you are right, the yankees might not catch them.

that seems unlikely, but it's not impossible i guess. the 2005 White Sox went the entire season with their rotation intact. it can happen.

but even if the yankees don't catch Boston, they are going to be in the hunt. all those teams in the central are going to start beating up on each other, and the Yanks will have a definite shot at the wildcard. same with the Sox if the yankees win the East.
