Rewriting a little history

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on May 09, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

38pitches.com is backpeddling like Ronnie Lott when it comes to Roger Clemens.

In his latest screed, Curt Schilling now says he loves Clemens and didn’t really mean it when he said the Red Sox didn’t need him.

It’s the media’s fault, of course.

Schilling goes on to say he really doesn’t love the spotlight. Sure thing, Curt.

Meanwhile, it’ll be interesting to see how he wiggles out of his statement on Barry Bonds. Schilling said on the radio the other day that Bonds admitted to taking steroids, cheating on his wife and cheating on his taxes.

Now that’s probably all the case. But Bonds never admitted to anything.

Curt Schilling is a loud mouth attention whore.

  2. Ryan May 9th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

    I love this quote;

“I’ve never ever cared about the ’spotlight’ “

  3. Mike from CT (formerly of DC) May 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm

Just another right wing joker making up facts to fit his own world view.

  4. Chucksax May 9th, 2007 at 2:19 pm

Peter, you forgot the most important – and obvious – answer to the poll:

    “It’s all A-Rod’s fault.”

  5. Patrick May 9th, 2007 at 2:20 pm

    Who is CHB?

  6. crabby May 9th, 2007 at 2:21 pm

curly haired boyfriend, aka, Dan Shaughnessy

  7. crabby May 9th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

To clarify, that is the name Carl Everett came up with for Shaughnessy. He was angry (Carl angry?) at Gordon Edes and said, “You and your curly-hair boyfriend.” Classic crazy Carl.

He isn’t called Red light Curt for nothng.

  9. Wolf In Pinstripes May 9th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Well of course – if Bonds never said it happened, it must not have happened, right? ;)

On a similar note, did everybody see that OJ Simpson was asked to leave a restaurant in Louisville the night before the Derby? Funny stuff. The owner of the restaurant told him he wasn’t going to serve him and asked him to leave the premises, which he did. Simpson’s attorney said the owner “was messing with the wrong guy” or something like that. Kind of a stupid statement to make regarding a guy who is believed my many to have killed people. Regardless. the restaurant pwner was applauded by diners for doing this, and has received over 100 emails supporting and thanking him for taking his stance.

what does “backpeddling” mean?Sorry,my English is poor.Maybe someone can help me out.

  11. Wolf In Pinstripes May 9th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

Isn’t it obvious now that Schilling’s sock was bloody from sticking his foot in his mouth too many times?

  12. hmmm May 9th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

it means taking back what he said.

literally it means walking or running backwards.

  13. Drew May 9th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Pete, maybe you could get that cart, that Freddy Garcia collided with, to make an appearance at Fenway :)

  14. Nigel May 9th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

The amount of sycophantic drivel in the comments section of ol’ ketchup sock’s blog made me throw up in my mouth.

  15. Chris NY May 9th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

As long as it’s not discriminatory, restaurants have the right to refuse service to whomever they want. Last time I checked, “wife slaying bums” were not part of a protected class……

  16. Neil May 9th, 2007 at 2:59 pm

Or maybe we could applaud Curt for saying what everyone actually thinks?

Do we really need to put allegedly in front of everything? He (allegedly) cheated on his wife – the ex-mistress was one of the witnesses in the investigation. He (allegedly)cheated on his taxes, the cash gift to that self same mistress paid out of (allegedly) undeclared income from autograph endorsements, and he (allegedly) cheated on the game with the… ahem… flaxseed oil.

If Barry is so upset that his good name has been tarnished he can use the court system to clear his reputation – but given he has allowed the allegations in the Game of Shadows to stand, I am guessing that he won’t deciide to use Curt’s comments as the basis for the name clearing exercise?

Or again, would you rather, as you said yourself yesterday Pete, that every baseball players quotes were as uncontroversial as Jeter / A-Rods?

  17. rbj May 9th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

A ball player who cheated on his wife? An American taxpayer who cheated on his taxes?
    Say it isn’t so.
(not that I condone either of those, but if you go after every ball player who’s cheated at something, well, you won’t have to worry about Bud Selig doing an contraction, it’ll happen automatically).

  18. Pittsburgh Yankee May 9th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

What is wrong with this guy? He is charitable and all that, giving to local hospitals in Boston, etc, but doesn’t he know when to just keep his mouth shut?

  19. Chris NY May 9th, 2007 at 3:32 pm

Neil, no-one said there was anything wrong with calling juiceboy a cheater. Schilling said something that was untrue, fathead never admitted anything… that was the only point. Other than that, he’s stating the obvious, so what’s the point of him going on a radio show to put his two cents in other than to get the spotlight back on him instead of Clemens or anyone else?

Applaud him for being an attention seeking loudmouth? No thanks.

    Public Apology
May 9th, 2007 by Curt Schilling
Everyone has days and events in life they’d love to push the rewind button on, yesterday was one of those days. Regardless of my opinions, thoughts and beliefs on anything Barry Bonds it was absolutely irresponsible and wrong to say what I did. I don’t think it’s within anyone’s right to say the things I said yesterday and affect other peoples lives in that way.

  21. Mike from CT (formerly of DC) May 9th, 2007 at 3:47 pm

If Schilling had to hit the rewind button everytime he said something stupid, he would be 11 years old.

  22. Joe D May 9th, 2007 at 4:01 pm

Fatso AKA I never met a microphone I didn’t like AKA I’m acting out because I’m not the ace anymore and I can’t stand it AKA I’m great for clubhouse morale.

  23. Annie Savoy May 9th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

Curt Schilling lost whatever credibility he had when he ‘went silent’ while under oath at the Congressional Hearings on Steroids.

  24. West Coast Fan May 9th, 2007 at 4:09 pm

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t Bonds admit to using “the cream” and “the oil”, which we now know are steroids? So, didn’t he admit to using steroids without calling them steroids?

Not that I’m defending Schilling. I’d just like to set the record straight on Bonds.

  25. Drew May 9th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

    LOL..Mike from CT…excellent!

  26. Pittsburgh Yankee May 9th, 2007 at 4:28 pm

Were steroids illegal when Bonds was hitting his home runs? And nobody took bennies or other amphetamines in the 50s and 60s and 70s when Hank Aaron was playing?

Enough of this steroid witch hunt. I think the younger players get the health point, as do hopefully the current crowd.

Bonds will break the record, and deserves the credit. Hank Aaron not going is just sour grapes however he wants to dress it up in sanctimony.

  27. Chris NY May 9th, 2007 at 4:28 pm

WCF, I don’t know if he did outright admit to those things. Wasn’t it more like, someone gave me something but didn’t tell me it was steroids.. but it might have been? Meaning he wasn’t confirming or denying, I thought. But even that, I don’t think he himself has said so publicly, he’s just been accused of saying so in that book. I don’t think he’s confirmed it..

Not that I’m defending either one of those cancers.

  28. Thurman May 9th, 2007 at 4:30 pm

Mike from CT (formerly of DC) — are you implying that Curt the Pompous Windbag was not saying stupid things when he was 11? I’ll bet you he was!

  29. Andrew33 May 9th, 2007 at 4:31 pm

I think Curt is starting to think, hmmm that actually sounds like a decent gig Roger has got. Watch in a few years, Schilling will be making the same demands and some team (hopefully not the Yankees) will grant his wish.

  30. Inconnu May 9th, 2007 at 4:57 pm

Why even bother reporting this? Last I looked this is a Yankee Blog not a Sox blog. Who cares what Curt has to say??

  31. Chris NY May 9th, 2007 at 5:09 pm

Andrew33, in a few years, the only team Schilling will be making demands of is his wife, as he’ll be out of baseball. Besides which, he is no Clemens.

  32. West Coast Fan May 9th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

Thanks Chris NY for pointing that out.

Can’t wait until the Yanks get to AT&T next month. Anybody else going to the Yanks/Giants games?

If you have not been to AT&T yet, you are going to love the park.

  33. Defcon May 9th, 2007 at 6:57 pm

I love the way you totally ignore the entire context of Schilling’s quote where he said “We would love to have Roger BUT…we dont need him”

Cute to see you sucking up the all the pissed off Yanks fans with your little sketches of Red Sox hate.
