The trouble with Vizcaino

Luis Vizcaino was one of the better relievers in spring training.

10 games: 10 7 3 2 2 10

That was the case for the first two weeks of the regular season as well.

8 games: 8.1 2 1 1 4 2

But in the 11 games he has pitched since … disaster. Vizcaino has allowed 14 runs on 16 hits and nine walks over 9.2 innings.

He had six days off before pitching on Thursday and it didn’t matter. He came in during the seventh inning and allowed an RBI double. He then started the eighth inning with two walks.

The Yankees have asked Vizcaino repeatedly if he is injured, which he denies. But clearly something is wrong. When a player with good control suddenly can’t throw strikes and loses velocity, it’s a sign.
