EV, how many times has Moose bitched ‘n’ moaned about being “off his game” because of too long rest, too short rest? Four, five years? I’m not questioning his abilities, I’m questioning his tired reasoning.

Baloney! Plenty of ptichers (BTW making much less than $17 Mil per year) pitch with assorted injuries and keep their mouths shut to the media. Mussina is a talented pitcher, but a whiney one.

You’re all hysterical. Mussina’s last two starts were on extra rest, and this one was supposed to be on extra rest as well. A week is way too long for any pitcher. And did you all miss the part where he said “he just didn’t have it”? He didn’t offer excuses. They asked him outright about the delay.
I cannot STAND when people sit here and tell players to “man up”. We are not talking about Carl Pavano here. This is Mike Mussina – the same guy who in 2005 pitched with freaking tendinitis because he was the only starting pitcher that wasn’t injured. Or have you all gone senile and forgotten that already?

This is why David Justice threw him under the bus last night on the postgame show. They showed Mussina making his rain comments and then Lorenz asked Justice about it. Justice said we’re seeing a pitcher in the twilight of his career and that’s the reason he didn’t pitch well, not because of the rain or his schedule.

I’m so sick of Moose bitching and making excuses if his schedule is thrown off.

He’s a veteran pitcher who should know by now that this game is full of uncertainties. If Phil Hughes had this excuse, I could cut him some slack, but after this many years in the league he should know how to adjust to his outings.
