randyhater: "I’m thinking teams will catch up to Okajima’s 86 MPH heat second and third time around.

Sheffield: "He's good -- real good," Sheffield gushed. "The way he pulls up his leg, it looks like he's going to tilt to the side, but then he comes over the top with the curveball. Then he comes back and throws the fastball in there, and it's nasty. Then he comes at you with his forkball, which is even nastier. He's one of the most impressive lefties I've ever seen."

Hmm, randhater or sheffield. Who's opinion should I trust?

what surprises me is a player that showed so much anger is so likeable when broadcasting. he seems really comfortable with what he does.

i actually think kay is getting better, even though he's kind of redundant at times.

Furthermore, we TANKED in the 2005 playoffs. Emulating teams that ultimately failed is not the way to go. Lets try 96, 97, 98, etc.

Frustrated? We ALL are.
Giving up in May? That's just plain dumb.

This team will start clicking and the W's WILL come.

We'll talk in October...

To be, or not to be in last place by Sunday night?

That is the question!

....to be! (in last place)

The last place Yankees. Hey down there! How do ya feel?

i feel like i can post this everyday, but yeah, i agree with hmmm.

"since 1918..Red Sox WS 1, Kennedys shot 2"
best screen name ever.

"Off topic—does anyone else enjoy listening/watching Paul O’Neill and Joe Girardi? I wonder how they’d be without Michael Kay,"

Paul and Joe rule, but yeah, who will ask Joe about taking a foul ball of the face mask every time it happens?

You think Kay would remember the answers to some of the questions he asks every other day.

hmmm.
agree with you about the pythagoraen standings. the yankees have a plus run differential that should result in a better record. maybe it's bad luck and maybe they are not doing the little things that are difficult to measure that win games.
in the "art of war" the general auditioning his warfare skills for the king lines up the palace servants and starts to teach them how to march. a few servants laugh when they make mistakes. the general promptly cuts their heads of with a sword. no more laughs. the leftover servants learn to march fast. the general gets the job.
the point is a few heads may have to roll to get everyone's attention. one head that could roll that wouldn't hurt one bit and could do some good would be kerrigan's. cashman hired him in the first place as a 100% outsider from tampa and even from torre. if you remember, he was brought in to help randy johnson and to be a cashman advisor. i rightly or wrongly looked at him as a cashman snitch. soon he was the bullpen coach and soon he might be the pitching coach if enough things go wrong in the next few weeks.
i'd put in a catcher out there to be bullpen coach who's no threat to the pitching coach.
firing the bullpen coach may seem inconsequential, but it does several things. it tells bowa, that he and kerrigan are not going to be teamed up again like in philly. it tells all the players that heads are beginning to roll. it allows the bullpen to have someone out there who doesn't look like he just drank curdled milk. i realize this goes counter to my analogy of seriousness, but the bullpen is one place where there needs to be some looseness. kerrigan looks like he doesn't have a funny bone in him to loosen things up when needed. i think the players know he's a conduit( the nicest word i could think of) to cashman.
kerrigan has had problems everywhere he's been. the longer he stays the worse it seems to gets until he's fired. if you say a bullpen coach doesn't matter, then this firing functions just as a wake up call to everyone else and kerrigan takes one for the team.
when it get's to ten games behind, someone will likely be fired if it stays there for more than a few days. kerrigan's my man for the job for the above reasons.
