The Yankees lost to the White Sox yesterday and now hope playing an even better team will get them going.

Kyle Farnsworth thinks Roger Clemens should hang around every day. This notebook also has news on Sunday’s starter and Jason Giambi.

The Subway Series is here and the teams are going in different directions.

If you break it down, the Mets have the edge.

The good news for the Yankees is that Roger Clemens starts tonight for Class A Tampa.

Kyle Farnsworth’s pitching is too painful for anyone to hang around and see.

    Pete-

Is Igawa going to get in the rotation in Tampa at some point ? Things have gone pretty quiet regarding potentially the highest paid player to ever play A-ball who was not rehabbing…

  3. BX 12 Fordham Road May 18th, 2007 at 10:41 am

    Jim…

one more year on that deal and then he can take his underachieving potential and balky back and move on to disappoint another team….

Hey Kyle F.— would you puleeze just “shut up” and pitch! Thanks cause esp., at this particular time, we don’t need to hear from you about anything except your pitching!

Well, I’m sure Clemens would think a reliever (i.e. – Farnsworth) should be able to (1) pitch on consecutive days if needed to, and (2) be consistently effective. Not to mention his other Yankee teammates.

Funny how Krazy Kyle suggests it’s a problem and then says that it’s not. he could end up learning the lesson of not rocking the boat when you can’t back it up with your own performance in Yankee land.

On another note, how about Giambi’s remarks about baseball apologizing to the fans about the steroid mess? Man, you can’t say that he hasn’t been the most upfront about the issue among those that have been linked to the scandal.

Wolf…the guy apologized fpr nothing a couple of years ago at that silly press conference and then today said the roids and HGH did not help him hit HRs….so he took them to help him grow his head so his hat would not slip ?

What kind of honest has he been ? It is like a Bush or Rumsfeld type honest or the original definition ?

1)Great articles Peter – this blog has become as much a part of my morning as coffee and shaving.

2)To all the people who think the season is over: it’s May, and we’re 4.5 games out of the playoffs… yeah.

I’d like to say giving up on the season would be ‘dumb’ but I just don’t feel right telling insane people that they are dumb.

3)How funny would it be if the ‘Rajah’ was the next Yankee to call out Clemens for skipping games?

  8. TurnTwo May 18th, 2007 at 11:15 am

    it comes down to consistency…

first half of the season, the pitching stunk on ice, but the offense was all-world.

second half of the season so far, i could say the pitching has been average to above average (but much better), and now the offense has completely disappeared.

if the pitching and the offense can meet half-way, thats when they’ll hit their stride, and you’ll see a run we’ve all been waiting for.

but, to me, it looks like the players are waiting for something to happen instead of playing aggressively and making something happen. we need a little fire lit, and maybe this weekend will help kick things into the next gear.

If Rajah opens his mouth to say anything other than “goodbye Yankees” he’ll probably get a severe beating from the part of the team that actually shows up and plays.

  10. DC Yank May 18th, 2007 at 11:19 am

I guess it’s the norm to bash Farnsworth, but he’s not pitching that badly. People bash just to bash.

    Last 12IP 10H 3ER 4BB 7K

He’s actually pitched well every time except the outing at Minnesota where he gave up 4ER in a third of an inning. Take out that outing and he has gone 16IP 12H 4 ER. Not too shabby.

  11. murphydog May 18th, 2007 at 11:21 am

What’s up with Krazy Kyle? Clemens is getting a sweetheart deal? Freakin Farnsworth has the best “special privileges” in the majors:

    1) He only pitches one inning every other day

    2) He doesn’t have to be effective

    3) He gets paid as if he did pitch more often and was effective.

After a deal like that, who is he to pitch a b**ch about Clemens?

  12. sean k May 18th, 2007 at 11:24 am

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, but I googled the word ‘Rajah’ and Wikipedia actually lists Carl Pavano as an example of the word used, as in ‘The Rajah of Rehab.’

    No joke.

  13. mel May 18th, 2007 at 11:27 am

Have you guys seen Giambi’s comments on USA Today’s website? He’s calling out MLB about the steroid problem and opened the door a little more on his own use. He’s got it right. It’s not a Barry (or Palmeiro or Sosa) issue. It’s a baseball issue.

Giambi’s a goon like Pete says, but he’s our goon. lol.

  14. TurnTwo May 18th, 2007 at 11:30 am

I dont bash Farnsworth just to bash… I have no confidence in him when he is on the mound. none. and i have a feeling i’m not the only one.

i dont care what his numbers say, if the Yankees have a 6-5 lead in the bottom of 8th inning, I want Bruney facing Wright, Beltran, Delgado.

  15. Wolf In Pinstripes May 18th, 2007 at 11:31 am

    BX –

Obviously he thought that back then that taking them would improve performance, which he says they did not. He also said “I was wrong for doing that stuff”. That’s not an admission?

As far as the press conference you mentioned, he just said himself that they should have stood up and apologized then. He said it was a mistake not to.

I’m not crowning him for Man of the Year, alright? I’m saying in relation to others named in the reports, he has been the most candid of any of them.

  16. BX 12 Fordham Road May 18th, 2007 at 11:32 am

Pavano is in the witness relocation program and going to airport to meet Igawa upon his arrival any day now….

$91m worth of nothing at this point…maybe Igawa will surprise us all and become the #5 .500 5.50 ERA starter that they paid $51m for after all but for now he is a Japanese MIA

  17. BX 12 Fordham Road May 18th, 2007 at 11:41 am

    Wolf…

If we go with Giambi’s “they did not improve my performance” theory then why is everyone mad at Bonds, McGwire and Palmeiro ?

They are called performance enhancing drugs for a reason, no ?

Poor Jason, maybe he bought placebos the whole time from BALCO while the other guys were getting the goods…

This guy is falling apart and could possibly have shortened his life with his use…2004 was an odd health year, no ?

People are afraid to call it when it is their own guy but Giambi is no different than Bonds (Giambi has FAR less talent) or McGwire or the countless other Brady Anderson types who cheated and denied until they could not plausibly deny anymore…in some ways it reminds me of the new style of apology the “I am sorry if my remarks offended some people” where you do not apologise for what you said but put it on the people who were offended by it..

  18. DC Yank May 18th, 2007 at 11:41 am

    Turn Two

“I dont bash Farnsworth just to bash… I have no confidence in him when he is on the mound. none. and i have a feeling i’m not the only one.

i dont care what his numbers say, if the Yankees have a 6-5 lead in the bottom of 8th inning, I want Bruney facing Wright, Beltran, Delgado.”

You don’t have any confidence in him? That’s your problem, I guess, because it really doesn’t matter if you have confidence in him or not.

Also, the question wasn’t who would you rather have pitch the 8th in a 1 run game, now was it? People were just bashing Farnsworth when the guy has actually pitched well for us this year. Facts is facts. Would I rather him pitch the 8th and Bruney the 9th as of now? Yes. I know Farnsworth can’t pitch on back to back days and only 1 inning at a time and all that and I hate that. But he has pitched well.

  19. Matt May 18th, 2007 at 11:46 am

Personally, I think this is the perfect chance to rid us of the awful Farnsworth.

Either way though, it may be time to ditch the “ITS STILL EARLY” BS and sdmit that this is our generations 1959.

  20. Gayle May 18th, 2007 at 11:52 am

Speaking of Pavano can someone explain why it has taken over a month for a decision to be made on this guy. I know the Yankees are getting all the ducks in a row but does it really take this long to make a decision.

  21. BX 12 Fordham Road May 18th, 2007 at 11:55 am

    Gayle….

It is hard to find a doctor to operate on someone without a heart…insurance and liability issues…(see: Lion- Wizard of Oz for details)….

  22. BX 12 Fordham Road May 18th, 2007 at 11:55 am

    damnit..Tin Man

  23. Gayle May 18th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

Lion reference works just fine for him as well (lack of courage)

  24. Kevin May 18th, 2007 at 8:21 pm

While Farnsworth is completely right, he’s also completely unqualified to make a comment like that. If Mariano Rivera makes a comment like that, then the world — George Steinbrenner, Joe Torre, even Roger Clemens — takes notice. But since it was just Farnsworth, the Boss will probably just trade him.
