Greetings from Shea Stadium

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on May 19, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

It’s another not-so-lovely spring day (56 degrees and drizzle) here at Shea Stadium, the worst place on earth.

Inexplicably, they’re watering the infield.

Back later with the lineups.

is Rasner going to be sent down after the game so they can pitch CLippard? Or Desalvo send down?

    any news on this.

    thanks..

  2. Doreen May 19th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

Maybe there’s something in the water there??????

  3. JT May 19th, 2007 at 12:52 pm

Lists of Managers who could replaced Joe Torre

Trey Hillman of Nippon Ham Fighters. He actually manage the Yankees minor leagues and currently managing in Japan

    Bobby Valentin

    Joe Girardi

    Don Mattingly

    Dusty Baker

  4. J. Reyes aka (king of NY) May 19th, 2007 at 12:57 pm

Stuart, I expect Rasner to be sent down after this game. DeSalvo didnt exactly light the world on fire in his last start, but lets be honest, Rasner has been getting by without any sort of bigtime stuff. I may be biased, but I think he is due for a shelljob…

  5. Yeah May 19th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

yankees are gonna get rocked again today, it sucks seeing your team have 0 chance of winning a game

  6. 2007 Yankees May 19th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

I am a patient fan when it comes to the Yankees but with 25% of the season done and over with, I think they need something to someone to bring some intensity to this team. Whether it be Torre getting tossed and throwing some bases around, or someone starting a bench clearing brawl….this team needs some motivation NOW!
For today, I bat Jeter leadoff and let him start the ball rolling. Damon might have been hustling yesterday but getting caught at second ruined that inning. The lineup needs changing. Let Abreu sit again….Melky at least is trying….

  7. JT May 19th, 2007 at 1:05 pm

Rocked again? Don’t Feed the Trolls. Did you watch game yesterday when score was 3-2? Your clueless.

  8. randy l May 19th, 2007 at 1:14 pm

    jt,
i predict mentioning dusty baker is going to cause you some grief. when the change happens, i hope it’s girardi because being a catcher, he understands pitching as well as the offense. i like mattingly, but i’m not sure that he brings to the table what girardi does. i’d rather see a transition after the season assuming the yankees can pick it up and get into the crapshoot(playoffs).
i’d also like to see torre kept as a valued advisor. the yankees need someone to advise cashman and jean afterman at the front office level who’s actually played the game.

  9. mel May 19th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

Just woke up (I’m in time zone far,far away) and it’s a bright sunshiny day. Wasn’t too happy about someone posting under my name, though. Not cool.

    Go Yankees!

  10. Peter Rabbit May 19th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Well, let’s hope we can score today. Don’t you guys think the Yankees batters are taking a different approach to hitting?

I was at the game yesterday and when I saw it was the 8th inning at 9PM, I thought “Hey, what’s going on?!?!!”

These 2 hour games are not the Yankees style. What happened to patience at the plate? What happened to taking pitches? What happened to tiring out the pitcher?!

The new hitting coach really did a great job by fixing A-Rod’s swing in the beginning of the year. But what’s with the 2 hour games?

  11. hmmm May 19th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

    randy,
i agree about girardi. and i have been agreeing with a lot more of your posts of late.

    one question:
when you say “someone who has played the game”, what are your standards? a major league player? b/c we know that a lot of really good coaches were failed players: Leo Mazzone was a career minor leaguer, Don Cooper was a really bad pitcher, rudy jaramillo, rick down, etc.

what is my point? Brian Cashman played 4 years of college baseball. he played Div 3, but was considered a very good 2B for that level, i believe he holds the Catholic University record for career hits and hit .340 his junior year.

my question is this, did you not know this, or does this not count?

    serious question.

  12. Todd Drew May 19th, 2007 at 1:31 pm

    mel,
There’s a lot of that identity theft going on these days. The regulars knew it wasn’t you. Yes, Go Yankees!

  13. Mike S. May 19th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

If you don’t like the way Joe handles his pitchers, you haven’t seen Baker. (You are right, Randy)…

    No way to Dusty.

The way things will be in the next few years with Hughes, Clippard, Kennedy, Chamberlain, Wright, Betances, and whomever else, what the Yanks would need most of all is a manager who excels at understanding and developing young pitching.

Rasner’s no star, but his ERA IS 3.28. I wish Joe would give the guy 15 more pitches and an extra inning rather than have the quick hook all of the time.

You never know what you can accomplish unless you are challenged. This applies in all areas of life. Let these youngsters go and no quick hooks. Let them learn how to go 7 and let them learn how to work out of jams.

  14. Go NYR May 19th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

This offense is ready to explode. Its not a matter of if but when. Hopefully it happens today. It would be awsome to score like 10 rins today. Percentages say its gonna happen soon

  15. Go NYR May 19th, 2007 at 1:34 pm

    correction: runs, i cant type

  16. sunny615 May 19th, 2007 at 1:44 pm

As anyone who has seen my posts throughout this season and last season, they can attest that I am one of those optimistic fans who root no matter what, but I have to say that this far into the season seeing nothing but the inconsistency that has plagued this team (first pitching than offense) I have to say I am at least – *very concerned* about this team. The whole team is in a serious funk and nothing seems to get them out of it.

I will say this, if this team does manage to pull out of it and win the division through some miracle… Jeter better win the MVP this year.

  17. mel May 19th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

Thanks, Todd. I did put the “Kyle Who?” comment because it seems like everyone (at least here!) thinks that Kyle is insignificant. Talk about part time! Little Kyle can’t pitch two nights in a row.

The second comment about Clemens asking for a trade was not mine. But I will admit that the thought popped in my head as soon as Andy was hand another signature loss to match the other four in his set. I still believe, though.

Pete, I know you don’t like to report/post too much negative from the locker room, but could you give us a little on how Kyle’s being treated?

  18. Fred D May 19th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

Why Did Cashman sign Endy Chavez who has better arm than Damon? Damon’s throws like a girl.

He was garbage with Nationals and then Mets turn him to a star.

  19. Russell W May 19th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

They are watering the dirt because they dont want uneven patches of rain creating clumps. When you wet the infield evenly, it helps absorb the rain more evenly.

  20. Pride, Power, Pinstripes May 19th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

    NO Dusty Baker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want Hughes ruined forever??? How about the rest of the kids??

No no no no no no no no no no no!

At least Torre just burns out old, replaceable arms.

  21. Marius May 19th, 2007 at 2:14 pm

Torre has nothing to do with the Yankees losing. I wish people would stop saying FIRE TORRE.
What is he going to do?? Yell at them to get them to hit?
    Just doesn’t happen that way.
Bring in Piniella for some fire? Well, wasn’t much fire on the Devil Rays or with his new club, the Cubs.

You are a bit silly to think Jow getting fired would have any impact at all.
Damon is hurt. Giambi is hurt. Abreu is clueless. Cano forgot how to hit, but Cano has always had terrible plate discipline and always swung at garbage and the 1st pitch. Pitchers know this and are pitching him crap as he will swing at anything.

A-Rod is lost again. Nothing new with him. He just isn’t mentally strong enough to handle success.

Yankees will win today. The Mets will get rocked.

  22. James May 19th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

    Fred D,

I feel the same way. It seems like anyone that the Mets pluck off the scrap heap these days turns into a solid performer for them. Go figure.

  23. li May 19th, 2007 at 2:31 pm

How does Torre have NOTHING to do with the Yankees losing? Is he only a factor when they win? If that is the case why have a manager at all?

  24. li May 19th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

How does Torre have NOTHING to do with the Yankees losing? Is he only a factor when they win? If that is the case why have a manager at all? Just to write in the line-ups?

  25. Stuart May 19th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

peterson is a great pitching coach. perez, maine, jorge sosa, feliciano, and the names go on and on.reclamation projects everywhere…

    he can coach……….

  26. webelieve May 19th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

As the only die hard baseball fan, a Yankee fan, in a house full of somewhat passionate red sox fans, I think I’m going to find the “We Believe” signs in the garage, cross out the pair of red sox and draw a Yankees logo on them.

We’ve got time, and a whole lot of it. The pitching has allowed 4 or less runs almost every night since we’ve gotten our rotation back. Averaging 5-6 runs a game for the rest of the season is probably the worst case scenario.

Once the offense catches fire, we’ll be on quite a run. 10 games is the worst we’ll see this season.

  27. RED SOX UPDATE May 19th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

Our All-Star 3rd Baseman Mike Lowell (didn’t you use to have a good 3rd baseman?) just jacked a GRAND SLAM with no outs in the 5th to give the Sox a 7-0 lead!!!!

Down by 11 by the end of the night!!!!!!!

Go Tom Glavine!!!!! (Massachusetts native ya know)

  28. Stuart May 19th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

the yanks need hughes and clemens back then they will have there staff..

  29. Jeff NJ May 19th, 2007 at 2:44 pm

Good news for today is the Yankees have their best record in his starts (not counting Carla) at 3-2. He’s pitched eh, and Torre doesn’t trust him, but the results are better than the rest. I could see Torre pinch hitting for him in the 5th if the situation is right. Anyway, let’s get back in the win column today. Go Yankees!

  30. Nick B. May 19th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

I guarantee that b4 Clemens signed they had a gentleman’s agreement that Torre would not be fired during the season. The only time he is getting fired is after the season. Clemens told the media he wouldn’t have come to NY w/o Torre here so they aren’t going to fire him a few weeks before Clemens even gets here.

  31. Jeff NJ May 19th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Uh hey Red Sox troll, good thing you don’t need to know how to do math to get through your garbage collecting job, but mathematically they can not be 11 out after today, unless you are assuming a rainout. But I can’t imagine your forecasting abilities are any better than your math skills, so I will just assume you are an idiot and should go away.

  32. BX 12 Fordham Road May 19th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

Sox clubbing the Braves in Fenway….would not doubt they sweep them and if the Yanks do not extract head from ass they will be 11 1/2 back by brunch on Sunday….

It will be good to see Clippard…but what does that say about Igawa….$51m for a healthy guy that might not be back this season….between he and Pavano that is $91m worth of absolutely nothing….

  33. RED SOX UPDATE II May 19th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

Ah hey Jeffy…if you got out of your mother’s basement and did something with your life you’d figure out that after we win today and after you lose tonight you’ll be 11 out. I didn’t even want to go down the road of: you’re really going to be 11 1/2 out because we have another game tonight and we’re on a roll!!!!!!

I’m going to enjoy every post I make to you losers all year long!!!!!!

    bye bye for now!!!!!

  34. Joe from Long Island May 19th, 2007 at 2:55 pm

No one said it was going to be easy.

Wonder what kind of deal Boston struck with the devil.

  35. hmmm May 19th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

“I’m going to enjoy every post I make to you losers all year long!!!!!!”

why not find a girlfriend instead? trolling yankee boards is pretty pathetic.

  36. Fred D May 19th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

I’m going to throw up that Fox5 just show This Week in Baseball feature Dice-K and Boston Redsox. I had to turn off Tv..

  37. Seth May 19th, 2007 at 3:10 pm

Did someone really say Dusty Baker would be a good choice for manager???????

    4 words for you:

    Mark Prior

    Kerry Wood

  38. murphydog May 19th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

    hmmm:

What makes you think this RedSox troll poster is a male? Red Sox Nation’s females have a lot of extra testosterone, leading to the prevalence of hairy backs and thick moustaches seen on the women at Fenway. Cant say I find it attractive myself, but hey, if most Sox fans’ mothers had hairy backs and moustaches, I guess their daughters will have some luck finding a man in Red Sox Nation.

  39. randy l May 19th, 2007 at 3:46 pm

    hmmm,
sorry for the delay. work intervened. yeah, i’m agreeing with more of your posts too. funny how open discussion can bring differing viewpoint towards the middle as more info is exchanged.
northern division three baseball is so far removed from the pro game that it’s not even close. a good florida high school like sarasota high where don cooper coincidently has lived in the off season would easily beat northeastern division3 schools. they just don’t spend the time playing the game that players that have gone through the minors. i’m sure brian cashman has a love for the game that came from playing as far as he did, but he just didn’t put in the on field time against really good players. don cooper had probably ten years of minor league and mlb experience. he probably played more baseball in his first pro year than cashman played in his life. cashman can still be valuable as a front office guy but he doesn’t have the eyes and the experience that cooper has when looking at players. just in the last few days i read terry ryan took a trip down to florida to look at rondell white’s rehab assignment. cashman wouldn’t likely do that because he doesn’t know the game the way ryan does from being an ex player. as long as cashman knows what he knows and what he doesn’t , it’s not a problem. he can always hire playing experience . i just wish he’d hire more.
don cooper, by the way, would make a good yankee pitching coach.
