Pete, I have to say I liked your position by position look at the two teams. Especially the comments on if Posada has two more solid seasons. Glad I'm not the only one thinking that...

Giambi didn't tell us anything we (or the Yankees) didn't already know. Plus, he never tested positive, and he took steroids when MLB had no policy. He's safe for now.

I'm thinking that Giambi is not the guy to make the example of. He apparently told the truth in the Grand Jury, implicating himself when no one else would say they knowingly used the stuff. Jason has also stayed clean, not failing a drug test yet. He was also Comeback Player of the Year.

Suspend Jason for repeating what we know he said in the Grand Jury and for tugging on the Commissioner's cape? (The truth hurts, Bud). What message would that send? This one: Speak the truth and get penalized, but keep silent and they'll let you take the most coveted record in sports.

I dare the Commish to do it. The Union would have to go nuts, tearing up all the good will in the last contract.

Pittsburgh Yankee:

They already call A-Rod that in Boston, but for different reasons ; )

CGramazio:

As for Long being launched, anything is possible with this record. But Paul O'Neill as batting coach? When he throws the first hard object at a player who strikes out everybody is gonna kinda realize it was a bad idea.

This team has been hit extremely hard by injuries, we only have to look to our neighbors north of the border to see another hard hit. Another team that everyone had high hopes for this year. They are in the same position as us.

I'm not sure how much of this is Joe's fault. Maybe you could point a finger at Joe's use of Mo this year, Giving him a week off between appearances. (that accounts for 2 loses)

The only real scape goat you could find at this point is the hitting coach. Ron finally has the pitching straigtened out. I think Mike's next start will be better than his previous. But now our hitting has gone into hiding. Hopefully last night in the pouring rain is a positive step foward.

There is no chance O'Neill would give up living in Cincy.

That Graziano article really makes you feel that the onus is definitely on Cashman. Steinbrenner gave him complete control and the results have been less then stellar. Although I agree that GM firings don't usually happen during the year, this circumstance may prove to be a bit unique, not that I think Cashman is going to get canned. This is Cashman's team though.

I think Kevin Long perhaps being the scapegoat may be a possibility if this continues. I wonder if Paul O'Neill would make a good hitting coach. I know he has no coaching experience, but man that guy's got some fire.
