Torre speaks with Steinbrenner

Joe Torre revealed today that he spoke with George Steinbrenner before the game yesterday and that the owner expressed nothing but support.

Steinbrenner’s son-in-law, Felix Lopez, made an appearance in the clubhouse before the game and met with Torre. His message, I was told, was the same.

“It means a lot to me,” Torre said. “I’ve told him many times that I appreciate the opportunity to be here. The only thing I’ve ever wanted is for this organization to be proud and remain proud of the work we do.

“Even though our record doesn’t look like what the Yankees’ record should look like at this time, it doesn’t mean we don’t have the same work ethic.”

I guess getting embarrassed on a nightly basis is OK in Yankee land now…

Is anyone as pumped as I am to listen to Miller and Morgan tonight?!?!

Pete, How bad do you think George is physically and mentally these days?

Losing 7-10 against the top team in the NL when your starter goes down after 9 pitches sucks. But calling it an embarassment is just exagerating.

Rocco – that’s what mute buttons are for.

Believe me, ESPN will be in full “dance on the Yankees grave” mode tonight. It will be brutal. The Red Sox ballwashers from Bristol are loving this.

I put on the ESPN (or FOX, as the case may be) telecast and tune into 880 AM. John and Suzyn have their critics, but at least they know what’s going on with the team, and are more objective than the alternatives.

i’m not in the radio broadcast. I have the MLB.com radio broadcasts but they are usually 15-20 seconds delayed. Oh well, i’ll suck it up i guess.

Sounds like Torre is close to getting the vote of confidence “kiss of death”.

    The dreaded vote of confidence..

5-3 win… with a Rivera save after 2 leadoff hitters get on base..

You leave Joe Torre just where he is. He is the best manager for the New York Yankees. He keeps the team together. We are still the best team in MLB. You want to get rid of anyone, get rid of Cashman, Procter & Farnsworth.
Cashman picked these two goof balls for our pitchers & they l loose every single game for us. How is that for poor
judgement? Cashman should be with the Red Sox not the NYY.
