Wrapping it up at Yankee Stadium

Chien-Ming Wang was quite pleased after the game. After his interview with a gaggle of journalists from Taiwan, he and I spoke in the hallway and he said he threw 12 changeups and as many as 40 sliders tonight. It was the most versatile he has ever been in his career.

“Everybody knows I throw the sinker,” Wang said. “I had to throw my other pitches sometimes.”

Great quote from Terry Francona on Wang: “(Wang) threw some good changeups, some good sliders and he threw his two-seamers with velocity. That’s the evolution of a young pitcher becoming a better pitcher. I don’t think that’s a difference in strategy. It’s the maturing of a pitcher.”

Bobby Abreu has gotten on base eight times in his last 12 plate appearances.

Derek Jeter extended his hitting streak to 16 games with an RBI single in the second inning. But Jorge Posada’s streak ended at 15 games as he was 0 for 3 with a walk. It was the longest streak for a Yankees catcher since Bob Geren hit safely in 15 games during the 1989 season.

Scott Proctor has gone 9.2 innings and Brian Bruney 10.2 innings without allowing runs.

And like the Wanger, I’m throwing a changeup. Instead of Joe Torre audio, here is some of the Gator, Ron Guidry:

Pete, what are the chances of getting some Wanger audio? Is he not comfortable speaking English in a recorded conversation? I would think he English is pretty good by now, but I understand that non-native speakers are often embarassed of speaking a new language in front of a large audience.

If we need to use the bullpen tomorrow, which is likely, odds are we’re gona have to see Luis Vizcaino vs. the Red Sox. Ugh…

Wang’s audio in English would be just as few words as in mandarin. :p

if CMW starts mixing his pitches up and not using his sinker as much, how do you think that will effect is efficiency and usually low pitch counts.. he was always the one you can count on to save our bullpen and go deep.

I think the death knell for the 2007 has been a little premature.

Lets see if the Quitters get back on the bandwagon.

He only really needs to mix it up as needed…He owns 80% of the league by using his sinker exclusively. Teams like the Sox he needs to keep guessing thought so he needs to through in a mix of pitches.

“I think the death knell for the 2007 has been a little premature.”

If the Yanks sweep, then yes. Otherwise the bells are still tolling.

I would really be curious to see edwar ramirez called up from trenton and pitch in relief. The guy seems to have dynamite stuff, as he has struck out like 15 per 9. Hopefully Cashman recognizes and considers this.

CMW is a great kid and he and I have had some terrific conversations. He’s very funny. But he is very soft-spoken, so the audio may not register too well. Plus when he’s just talking and being interviewed, it’s two different things. He’s very reserved when being interviewed.

But I will try the audio at some point.

I hope Vizcaino and Farnsworthless are shipped off in some trade package by July. The earlier the better. I never want either of them pitching for this team ever again.

Edwardo Rameriz and Brett Smith are two hot prospects down in Trenton. They deserve a look-see before they get stolen from us in a trade.

Wang, Pettitte, Moose, Clemens, Hughes/Clippard. That’s the rotation of a playoff team. I still think that’s more potent than Schilling, Beckett, Dice-k, Wakefield, and Tavarez/Lester.

yeah, try to get an audio of wang! we saw on espn, when wang finished his pregame practice and returned to dugout, everyone reached out their fists to touch with wang’s to show their support. suddenly he was doing something with johnny damon which was blocked by someone so we couldn’t see clearly but that ending posture (opening arms like saying “hooray!”) looked really funny! so we suppose he was opening up to his teammates more and able to play along with funny guys like damon.
