That would have been stupid. If they could have started him this week (before Boston), they would have. There is no reason to raise the emotions unnecessarily. For Clemens, it is still extended spring training and getting clobbered by the Red Sox would have been a physical, psychological and emotional set back for the Yankees and Clemens. If he doesn't pitch well against the ChiSox, it is only a physical set back that can be blamed on the fact that he has only pitched three minor league games so far. Despite anything Cashman or Torre said three weeks ago, neither of them wanted Clemens pitching in Boston.
