I don't think the Yankees eat Arod's full contract. The amount owed is about $30 mil for the next three years if he stays or signs an extension. If he opts out it's $10 mil. All for about 1.7 years of Tex - who on top of the $10 or $30 mil, is making $9 mil this year and projected to make $15 mil through arbitration next year. That's an awful lot of eating for one and a half years of one player.

"One thing hmmm…..They changed the rules re: draft pick compensation for free agents. After this year, draft picks will no longer be the compensation for lost free agents.

You lose a free agent, you don’t get anything for the loss."

are you sure about this? i know they CHANGED the draft pick compensation, but i didn't think they eliminated it.

they eliminated the draft pick compensation for Type C players, and made Type B players a sandwich pick, instead of the signing teams' 2nd round pick.

but i though Type A compensation was still a first round pick.

i'm not saying i don't believe you, but it seems like this would be a bigger story. i guess it will be next year.

That's good news for a team like the Yankees. It will allow them to spend for free agents and not have it hurt their draft status each year.

"The yanks have to try to make a move for Teixiera, he’s perfect. He is a power right handed bat and is a gold glove, Texas needs some pitching and we have plenty of #4/5 pitching prospects like DeSalvo, Wright, Rasner, karstens, etc.."

what would you rather have if you were the Ranger:

1. 1 1/2 more seasons of an all-star 1Bman plus draft pick compensation in 2009

2. package of #6/7 starters

we're not getting Teixiera for nothing, unfortunately.

Teixiera is probably the most popular Ranger. the Rangers are going to have to get something in return that justifies the trade to their fanbase.

trading Teixiera for any of those guys simply makes no sense from the Rangers' perspective. every organization has their own Matt DeSalvos.

Duncan may only be hitting 305 against AAA pitching but Thompson is hitting 260 against AAA Pitching. I guess the Yankees brass was looking for a fielding option and possible pinch runner.
