Pregame chatter: Andy Pettitte threw 31 pitches in the bullpen and said he was ready to start on Friday. … Chicago put Joe Crede on the DL with a back injury and called up top prospect Josh Fields. He was the first round pick in 2004. …Jeter is going to get tomorrow off. … Wang has gone 34 innings without giving up a homer. He was very good here against Chicago on May 16, allowing one run in seven innings.

UPDATE, 10:08 p.m.: Sorry for the lack of updates. Been busy working on the Giambi story. Consensus seems to be that Selig has no grounds to discipline Giambi and an arbitrator would never uphold a suspension.

Meanwhile, the Yankees have been playing at a high level for about a week now. Crisp defense, good pitching mostly and timely hitting. The Wanger is throwing a gem so far.

UPDATE, 10:16 p.m.: Why are there always fewer comments when the Yankees win games than when they lose them? I get the idea that some people are only happy when they can complain.
