This is a full-service blog. Here is some audio from new first-round pick Andrew Brackman.

He’s excited to be a Yankee, wants to get on the field as soon as possible, his arm feels fine and he thinks he’s going to do well.

The moderator you hear at the beginning is media relations director Jason Zillo.

Reading over multiple scouting reports on Brackman for the past week, I have to say I was a bit leery of the Yankees using their only first round pick on him. His arm was “fatigued,” his control was slipping, and there were even rumors of possible Tommy John surgery. Now, according to many sources, including Pete, this may have been an unbelievably clever ruse. This could be the heist of the draft – Brackman could have gone number 2 or 3 overall, injuries notwithstanding. Now the Yanks have a legit power pitching prospect with three plus pitches, including a 99 mph fastball. His curve, as Peter alluded to, is sick. From the video I’ve seen, it was less 12-6 and more 10-5 (meaning it was less vertical and more diagonal). Yanks fans across the board have to be salivating at the prospect of a healthy rotation of Wang, Hughes, Brackman, Kennedy, and Chamberlain in a few years. Oppenheimer knows what he’s doing – big risks, big rewards. No risk, Kansas City.

I think you guys need to not get caught up in the “arm injury” talk.

Last year, the Yankees took Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain with their first two picks.

The same “stuff” was floating around about both of them.

“Why did the Yankees take injured pitchers”, blah, blah, blah.

Right now, they are two of the Top 7 pitchers in the minors.

I just got done seeing Chamberlain pitch again tonight.

    His line: 5 innings, 6 hits (all singles), 1 run, 0 BB, 9 K’s.

83 pitches, 56 strikes. Threw four fastballs 99 tonight and was around 95-98 all night long.

Tampa won 9-1 and it started raining so they took him out early. The kid is 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA and he was as “hurt” as Brackman.

Here’s the deal. Porcello, Price and Brackman are the three best arms in the draft. If you are the Yankees, and one of them fall to you, its a no brainer to take him.

All you have to do is look at the results of Kennedy and Chamberlain last year, who had the same “rep”.

You can afford to take him and develop him because you don’t need him right away.

The kid is very, very good and it was a good selection, IMO.

    That’s what I just said.

    Arm injury scharm injury.

The guy is a top 3 talent and to get that at 30 is a no brainer.

Even Keith Law said at best hes and ace. At worst a 3.

A 3 nowadays is basically like an ace. Just adding to the stockpile of plus pitchers down on the farm.

elbow pain and forearm stiffness=future tj surgery. sorry but its true.

I also hope the arm injury was just a smoke screen to get him to drop to larger market (higher paying) teams. It wouldn’t be the first time Boras used that kind of tactic.

Seeing Porcello and Brackman drop this low to team with big wallets pretty much makes the MLB draft a complete sham. It works in my favorite teams favor, but it’s a complete sham.

We’re loading up on big big pitching prospects, so the future looks brighter than ever.

I was hoping Porcello was going to slip to 30, but I’ll take Brackman and his tired arm.

With Hughes, Kennedy, Chamberlin, Betances, Humberto Sanchez (when he comes back from surgery), Brackman, Clippard (who I think is a bulldog) and even Chase Wright who I think can make it in the big leagues, we’re looking good for the future.

“He had not pitched since May 12 at Virginia and was idle for the ACC Tournament and NC State’s NCAA regional appearance at Columbia, S.C., but an MRI exam performed by the university reportedly showed no structural damage:

I suspect this was just a case of tired arm. Before this year his career high was like 40 innings.

What is the next step for Brackman? Where will he play first?
