i could be wrong but i think a great ground ball pitcher will keep his pitch count a lot lower than a K guy, eventually leading to more innings per game.

Sure strikeouts are great. and it makes me even happier that we have Rocket now. You're getting outs without the risk of fielding errors and sacrifices. That rules, without a doubt.

If I were going to put together a rotation, i think you need a mix of different style pitchers.

And what's better than a ground ball or strikout pitcher? a guy who could make everyone hit pop fouls. okay, i'm just babbling now to a day old post.

Peter, the problem with a pitcher not getting K's and just "getting outs" is that it is extremely rare for a pitcher to continue to have success throughout his career if he has a below average K/9.

Saying that, Wang may very well be an anomaly, which would mostly be to do with the fact he gets a ton of grounders.

the yankees supposedly offered clemens 30 something million in spring training this year, they offered him 28 million this year ... arod is making 26 million, not saying johan will get 30 but its not out of the question, if cash gives out another 4 year contract it would be to a johan type player

No pitcher is going to cost 30 million dollars a year for a significant amount of time. Not even Johan. Barring injury or ineffectiveness till the 2008 off-season, he'll probably get an 8-year, $180 million dollar deal, and that's being generous. There's only a handful of teams that can afford him, and while everyone could use the best pitcher in baseball, not every team that can afford him will bid for him. He'll also be 29, not exactly a spring chicken.

Also, remember that Cashman now absolutely hates giving long-term deals to anyone, especially pitchers. Carl Pavano burned him bad, and he will be very reticent to commit a large amount of money over a long period of time to anyone. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Yankees taking a pass on Santana, especially if prospects start budding all over the place. Cheap and flexible is the way to go, and we are all realizing the value of it as we see immovable guys like Farnsworth and Vizcaino clogging up the 'pen. And don't get started on Giambi. Having a superstar at every position means you have to play them there all the time no matter what, and their replacements are going to stink.

hes going to be a free agent, depending on what they wanted i would wait until then. hes going to cost 25-30 million a year. thats a ton of money, even for the yanks, if they had to trade prospects as well, super ouch.

I would consider making a package around Chamberlain for Santana.

Any GM would be crazy not to consider a deal for the best pitcher in baseball.

sorry no way santana will be offered to the yanks with a package around kennedy it would be around chamberlain... chamberlain is probably the number one prospect in the yanks system right now, unless u consider franchise a prospect still.

Kennedy untouchable?

What if Minnesota offered Santana right now for a Kennedy package?

You don't think his bags would be packed and out of here in 20 min?

Not the best moment in time to call Abreu a "dog".

You should really wait on that one, randyhater. Your timing is pretty brutal. Thankfully.

Paul Thorp was given his release,to make room for Joba C.
Jason Jones could be made into a reliever. No one is being promoted to AAA from Trenton.
Pitching wise that is.
