“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die.” (Or more pop-culture fun with Mike Mussina)

Here are the postgame interview sessions of Joe Torre:

And Mike Mussina:

Don’t know if YES showed it, but Moose was wearing a t-shirt that said, “Prepare to Die.” That, of course, is a line from the great movie The Princess Bride.

The Moose isn’t perfect. But he’s got character.

If you didn’t see Princess Bride, well you should have.

    let’s go yankees!

  2. Jim Johnson

Definitely a top-3 movie of all time.

“No more rhymes, I mean it!”
    “Anybody want a peanut?”

  3. Dr. Acula

    Jim-

    what are the other two?

what genre does Princess Bride fall into?

  4. BillyJoBob

The Princess Bride is a love story/action/kid’s/pirate/revenge movie with terrific writing, tongue in cheek acting and the greatest cast of absolute characters ever assembled.

8.5 games. not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

also a line from a movie

  5. BillyJoBob

    I forgot Comedy

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya

  7. Matt

Two or three years ago he was wearing a chicos bail bonds shirt

  8. Matt

Moose is one of my all time favorite ball players. I want desperately for him to scratch to 300 wins, as I think its the only way he’ll get in the hall. He’s deserving as is, but he flies under the radar.

  9. RSM

“A Fish Called Wanda” has to be up there.

  10. Jake

    Whos never seen Princess Bride???

  11. Bill

Woooohoooo, this team is finally looking like the team I expected them to be. Patient and gutty. Great win for the team.

Oh, and the Red Sox lost, too!! I had a great time reading Schilling’s blog about his pounding tonight.

  12. Reflaxion

Pete, there’s something I ought to tell you.

    Moose… is not left-handed!!

  13. james

The Muts are gonna lose tonight. We will finish the sweep of the Dbacks and if we sweep the Mets
    Mets 36-32
    Yanks 36-31
    Ha HA

  14. Bill

I have to laugh when I see that Bud Selig is deciding whether or not to suspend Giambi… when he never actually came out and used the word “steroids”.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=2903721

It will be extremely difficult for them to be able to suspend him, especially since he never actually tested positive for a test (which would be a 50-game suspension).

  15. Miguel

I’m really glad tonight went so well for the Moose. If his last two starts are indicative of what he’s gonna pitch like for the rest of the season, then this is actually the best I’ve felt about a Yankee team in a long time, early season disaster notwithstanding. The reason is this: assuming the rotation stays relatively healthy, and we can find a way to just get into the postseason, then we go into the postseason with by far the best starting rotation we have had since the 2003 season, no coincidence that was the last time we were in the Series. Wang, Pettitte, Clemens, Moose…what don’t you see there? No Kevin Brown, Jaret Wright, Randy Johnson, etc. Last season was the worst…down 2-1 in a best of 5 and we’re counting on Jaret Wright to save the season! With these 4 guys, good pitchers with a lot of experience (except Wang) we can count on our starters to hold their own against anyone.

    “Moose… is not left-handed!!”

Nor does he have six fingers on his left hand…

  17. Stuart

where are all the world is coming to an end posters????

2 weeks ago guys like me were refered to as fools, naive, compnay people…

I do not know how the season will end up but I know they have 99 games left that is a ton…

8 in a row and the mets are realling.. baseball is a very strange and unpredictable game..

remmeber this unnammed scout about 2 weeks ago who said Abreu is done!!!!!!!!Yea right what a game, you never know what will happen……

  18. Stuart

if Hughes comes back within 6 weeks then they really have a pitching staff…. he is legit…..

  19. Jaspal

Talk about a classic for those who had our wonder years in the 80s then the Princess Bride would be it. The Yanks are looking good these days. It should continue with the all time formula of good pitching and timely hitting.

  20. JeffG

Does this mean the Yankees were only “Mostly Dead?”

Furthermore, I guess it also make Fat Man 38pitches Humperdink.

Sweet. Fight him To the Pain!

  21. DC Yank

Moose got a great hand from the stadium crowd as he left in the eight last night. It just seemed louder and more heartfelt for some reason. Did anybody else notice that? It must’ve made Moose feel pretty good. Keep it going Mike.

  22. jennifer

Mike is a 80’s t-shirt addict. If you ever see him coming into the stadium he’s always wearing a different one. Mike is a misunderstood person. He doesn’t seem to be comfortable infront of the media or cameras. I’ve heard phone interviews with him and he is much easier going.

I have also met him a few times, he has a meet and greet and he is very friendly. He actually could be quite funny!

Also i’m glad to see 38pitches is so wrapped up in that blog of his. He throws a bad game and he runs to his locker to blog about it. LOL Keep it up Curt.

  23. Jimbo

Abreu not snap out of it? Moose not pitch well? The Yanks not be in the hunt?

    INCONCEIVABLE !!!

  24. Rufus

So Moose and Abreu aren’t finished just yet. What a surprise????

  25. Tony C

    My wishes to the Yanks…
    “Have fun storming the castle”!

  26. Jeff in MA

    Jimbo –

You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

(Sox fans in the Vizzini role at this point)

  27. Jeff in MA

Yankee fans have made one of the two classic blunders! The first is never get into a land war in Asia. The second is never think you can make up a 14.5 game deficit against the mighty Red Sox!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAerk

  28. chris in fairfield

i saw the princess bride in summer camp and the next year i saw it in middle school for some reason . high quality movie . thats 2 quality starts in a row from moose . his yes interview was weird . he was giddy .

  29. Jennifer

wow I can’t believe they still have the nerve to troll here.

  30. Jeff in MA

    Who?

You must not have seen the movie.

  31. Skippy

    Jennifer,

I love a good Mussina post-game interview. I don’t think it’s so much that he’s uncomfortable in front of cameras as that he tends to think before he speaks and doesn’t always spin the usual cliches with the glibness of some others. Also he does not seem to suffer fools gladly; his “Do you get paid to ask such stupid questions?” stare and pause is priceless.

  32. jennifer

No I didn’t see the movie, so I take it back than. I saw the MA and I thought you were a sox troll. :)

  33. Jeff in MA

    Jennifer –

The idea was more to compare the typical Sox troll to an idiotic character in the movie who’s just lost a battle of wits and doesn’t know he’s poisoned himself. He keels over in mid-evil-laugh. It’s a great movie, one of my favorites.

    Cheers,

Jeff the Die-Hard Yankee Fan in MA

  34. jennifer

I love that look, of wtf kind of question is that. Did you actually go to journalism school to ask that. LOL

  35. saucy

Anyone see that crossword puzzle documentary the Moose is in? Worth Watching?

  36. Jeff in MA

Is that “Wordplay”, with Will Shortz of the NYT? I wanted to see that — if Moose is in it, I’ll definitely have to rent it.

  37. jennifer

Yes Mike is in Word play not sure now much.

  38. West Coast Fan

The Moose is loose. Watch out, this guy can go on a tear the way he has pitched the last 2 games.

That Moose stare was refined at Stanford. Besides being the top notch pitcher you all love, Mussina is exceptionally brilliant. Meaning off the charts.

  39. Skippy

Wordplay is cute. They did a good job taking a subject that isn’t necessarily cinematic and making it into a movie. Nice and short, too, heh heh.

  40. Skippy

When are we going to get an edit option for our posts? Let me rephrase: “They did a good job taking a subject that isn’t necessarily cinematic and made it work visually.” You get the drift.
