A little off the topic of Wang getting pulled last night, but why are the Yanks going with Igawa on Fri? With the day off today, and another day off next Monday, it seems like they would just go with 4 starters where they were all going on normal rest and you could avoid having to call anyone up? I must be missing something here because otherwise it just makes too much sense.

Yankee Dudel provides the only legitimate excuse for pulling Wang there (and obviously an non-baseball excuse).

Coops2001- If you are worried about pitch count, you pull him before the inning starts.

Mel – Your excuse works if he did it AFTER the two hits and BEFORE the double play. Once he got the double play, if Joe wanted to give Wang a complete game he could have — there was no risk (to the game) in him pitching to Delgado.

In the grand scheme of things, this boneheaded move by Torre didn’t cost them anything, so I’ll let it go. But if he was concerned about a pitch limit, there’s no reason to leave him in after the Mets start the inning with two hard hits. Then he gets the DP. Then you pull him? WHAT?

I think Torre pulled Wang (I love that phrase!) to get Mike Myers in the game. Myers has a blue “Father’s Day” glove that he wanted to use in the game on Sunday, have autographed by the whole team, and auction off for charity.

Joe was giving Wang a chance for the CG. Wang gave up a couple of hits and ran up his pitch count. It didn’t go according to plan, so Joe pulled him to minimize the wear. At least he gave Wang the chance. He could had an easy 1-2-3, but Joe nor Wang knows what would happen. It was a gamble and just didn’t work out. No big deal.

I agree with taking out Wang. 113 pitches is a lot for 1) a pitcher who had neck problems that morning 2) was injured earlier in the year and 3) with a 6 run lead.

As far as Giambi being out – I think his power production could be missed especially if Arod cools off. Arod has hit 12 homeruns in the past 20-22 games alone, more than any other yankee this SEASON.

Anyone look at Red Sox #3-#6 hitters? They look scarey, especially now that Manram is starting to hit (he’s almost at .300).

cairo has played a gold glove caliber firstbase . he may not be the everday long term guy but for now he’s doing aswell as anybody – and certainly better than phelps or giambi . did that bum michael kay say dougie m. was out for the season ? i thought it was going to be 2 months ?

Torre removing Wang with two outs in the ninth made very little sense. If you were worried about his pitch count, take him out before the inning started. If you were worried that he might have lost his stuff after giving up two solid hits to the first two hitters of the inning, take him out then. Instead, you let Wang pitch to another batter and he gets him to ground into a double play.

Now, with two outs in the ninth and a 6 run lead and Carlos Delgado up (who is a shell of former self batting .228 with 10HRs this year) with no one on base, you take out the pitcher that has been phenominal because of a pitch count? So we can listen to the Halloween theme before we go home at 11PM on a mid-June Sunday night? Even if Delgado hits a HR, we have plenty of cushion…

It is good to see that Joe has a little more fire in his belly recently, but his in-game decisions are mind boggling.
