38pitches.com sent back to Hub for MRI
Trouble in Boston. According to the Boston Globe, Curt Schilling left the team and went back to Boston today to meet with Red Sox team doctor Thomas Gill and have a precautionary MRI on his shoulder.
A Red Sox official said there were concerns over the lack of velocity in Schilling’s performance last night. According to the NESN radar gun, Schilling never hit 90 mph over his 81 pitches last night.

Bad news for the Yankees, now they are going to use a pitcher who won’t get shelled everytime out. Please keep pitching Curt!
No wonder Schilling wanted to re-sign for next year at the low low price of only $13 million
Question is, will he blog about the results before the Red Sox issue a statement.
I never revel in a player being injured. Seriously. I actually have been enjoying watching the shots of him in the dugout after being blasted. Head down, like he’s going to cry. Hilarious. If he wasn’t such a self-promoter and had the slightest amount of class and wasn’t the ultimate big mouth, it wouldn’t be so amusing. However…to quote Jerry Seinfeld: “That’s a shame.”
Down goes Beckett! Down goes Beckett!
I’d rather he stayed completely healthy and got his butt kicked every time out.
That is a shame.
Based on past experience with Boston and Red Sox fans, I wonder how badly they’re twitching now.
He doesn’t need a MRI. What he needs is a stomach staple and couple laps around the park
with super-ace Beckett and diceK, if they get into the playoffs, they would still be the favorites even without schill.
i agree with most ppl here, i’d rather schilling is out there stinking it up 2/3 starts.
you never know when some new guy will come along and catch the proverbial lightning in a bottle.
then again, tavaraz *MUST* start royally sucking sometime soon. it pisses me off everytime they win w/ him on the mound.
Super-ace Dice-K? You’re high. The Yankees hit him hard twice already this season.
read again: “super-ace” not “super-aces”.
and also sox won both of those starts.
I still expect him to have 17-18 wins with era ~ 3.4.
That’s ok, they still have their savior Jon Lester. “rolls eyes”.
Maybe he threw too many pitches vs oakland. good for him.
It’s a ploy! They need something to fire up the team. Look for a bloody shirt soon…
You’re still high. A super ace is someone like Santana, Clemens, Pedro, etc…..he’s no way in that league. I’d say he’s a solid starter, but for $105 mill?
“I still expect him to have 17-18 wins with era ~ 3.4.”
Considering his ERA right now is 4.18, he’ll have to really turn in ton to get it down more than half-a-run per nine. Do you really think he’s got it in him? I don’t. And Buckett’s ERA is now over 3 and rising. They’ll still get their wins, but only because Boston can hit.
If only Roger and GHGiambi and Sheffroid, and Heredia, and Lawton would share their roids, 38 pitches also could pitch into his mid 45s.
The Red Sox are such an embarrasment of a franchise. Seriously, Curt Schilling is pure evil. I dont think I’ve ever hated a player more and while I usually never want to see another player injured, I really can’t stand the man. I wish that he would have gotten cancer instead of Lester. Lester seemed like an ok kid and to have his career cut short is a shame.
On to the more positive things, like our latest win strike. So glad to see that we’re playing typical Yankee baseball – grinding out AB’s and then delivering the clutch hit when needed. The starting pitching is now dominant with the best front 4 in all of baseball. Mo has regained form and the rest of the bullpen has stablized nicely. I can easily see the Yanks going on a 27 out 30 run and catching the Sux by the All Star break.
Great job with the blog, Pete. Keep up the good work.
Couldn’t think of a allegedly funny quip to go with “Roger,” huh Mo Rules?
You were almost there.
Im the biggest Yanks fan there is CW just wish that others could aspire to the greatness that is Mo, a class act, a Hall Of Fame picture, that has done it without roids, unlike Roger, who is a joke.
38pitchers.com is never going to make it to next season – let alone 45. He’s breaking down as it is and its only June. Joshie boy also hasn’t been the same since he went on the DL.
Don’t know when Sux fans will learn the lessons – every years its the same exact things. Yanks come out of the box a little slow – realize they have the talents to turn it on whenever they want and in the end, we win the division as usual. I expect another 3rd place finish for the MASS holes as last year.
Gee, Boston’s starting rotation is so great! They’re unstoppable!
Let’s compare, shall we? Ranking the top 4 starters for each by ERA:
1. Buckett 3.39 ERA, 77 IP.
Pettite 2.93 ERA, 92 IP.
2. D-Mat 4.18, 92.2
Wang 3.33, 78.1
3. Wakefield 4.18, 88.1
Clemens 3.65, 12.1
4. Shi**ing 4.20, 94.1
Mussina 5.17, 54.0
The top three Yankees have lower ERA’s than Boston’s top three. Clemens is the only statistical anomaly since he only has 2 starts and doesn’t have a clear track record yet this season. The only place where Boston has a clear edge is the 4 spot. Who’s got the better rotation?
Why didn’t I include the 5 spot? The Yankees haven’t had a consisted 5th starter all year. (Nor have they really had a consistent 4 starter for that matter, until now.) If you want, give Boston the edge on the 5th starter since Tavarez has been adequate and consistent. That’s still only 2 out or 5, and the lower end starters at that.
And I expect the usual post season gag job by the choke mes, and the attendent hand wringing by the bawling choke me fans.
wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Rob, I can’t believe you wished cancer on someone. Wish cancer on a good for nothing piece of sh!t like Osama Bin Laden, not a guy that you dislike for little personal reasons. You’re pathetic.
This is a reply to an earlier post by Peter, but if the Yankees acquire Shea Hillenbrand, I will be really upset. I hope they are just floating those rumors to scare the Rangers into being more flexible. Cripes. Hillenbrand SUCKS.
I didn’t wish a new case of cancer on someone – I merely wished and hoped to transfer an existing case of cancer that Lester had over to Schilling. Schilling is the biggest jerk and an even bigger phony baloney – you really think he cares about all of those als guys. Its all a big tax write off for him.
Osama Bin laden is already dead by the way – if were alive though I could think of lost of things worse than cancer to wish on him.
Beckett has had a good year so far, but I doubt he intimidates the Yankees. One of the reasons is that they see him 4 or 5 times a year.
Untill his Colorado beatdown 5.0 IP 6 ER
He gave up more than 3 ER twice, both against the Yankees
April 21 6.2 IP 4 ER
June 3 6.1 IP 4 ER
can you imagine Hillenbrand writing “the ship is sinking” in the Yankees clubhouse in May? Farnsworth beating the crap out of him would be enough to keep him on the team this year.
“this ship is sinking”
i remember that one
why does this merit an entire post on this blog?
for starters, this is a yankees blog, and last i checked we’re not playing the red sox right now. and as others have mentioned, why take joy in another’s injury, regardless of how much disdain you might have for schilling?
finally, the entire post consists of a verbatim account of a posting from boston.com. granted, pete said “according to the boston globe,” but in some circles, this post would amount to plagiarism. at least provide the link if you’re going to rip the whole story word for word.
I agree Pete should have atleast quoted the source. That is Plagiarism. Shame on you pete.
When will Senator Schilling announce his first run for political office from Mass. or Arizona?????
Geez, Rob. I can’t stand Shilling either. But to wish cancer on him – a new case or Lester’s – is way out of line. Shilling pitches for the Red Sox; OBL is responsible for the death of thousands. Kinda different levels, don’tcha think?
Take the rhetoric down about a hundred notches.
BTW, there’s no conclusive proof that OBL is dead, but that’s another blog topic…
I’ve been sayin all along, the Sox WILL fall apart. Schilling is going down. Drew will get a bee sting and hit the 60 day. Manny will become a clubhouse cancer when Varitek catches him peeing in the showers. Paps’ arm will fall off eventually. Anyway, I suggest we all buy Julio Lugo Jersies since he’s clearly our favorite Red Sawck. I’d hate to be Padroia’s chin next time Roger faces him too. The Sox have a brutal 8 games left- Atlanta to San Diego to Seattle. The Yankees are facing some lame teams at the same time, we should do some damage.
LOL! Rob tries to explain himself by using the “cancer transference” defense! I’m sure Schilling’s family would accept that explanation.
Get well soon, Curt!
Rob wishing that Curt Schilling would get cancer.
Fits right in on this blog and the 3rd grade level of discourse over here
Yankee fans never change
Aaron,
you are just as bad a rob if you think that all Yankee fans want Schilling to get Cancer because he does.
The Yanks have to make up ground in the rest of this month, even if it is just a couple games. The schedules favor the Yanks and they are the hotter team. If they enter July down +7, they are in trouble.
Beckett is good, Shilling will be back. We need to worry our ship staying afloat more than their ship sinking.
Oh calm down Aaron, I have seen just the same inane chatter on SoSH which is meant to be the thinking mans Red Sox MB. Just ignore it and get off your high horse.
It’s dumb to wish cancer on people but it’s even more dumb to think it will actually come true if some idiot makes that wish. Just ignore the moron or tell him to shut up. Don’t waste your breathe on him.
Aaron making sweeping generalizations about Yankee fans also falls into the category of 3rd grade discourse.
I’m sure he’ll be able to gut his way through any injury.
Dont wish injuries on anyone no matter which team they play for. But how about this breaking news stuff
Jason Schmidt is having sholder surgery tomorrow not looking good for that investment
Randy JOhnson has a herniated disc not good news on that front either and no matter what we got from Arizona for that trade it is worth it.
OK let’s all be good sports and not wish cancer on anyone, including Mr Schilling. Maybe a generous case of genital warts if he doesn’t already have them, but not cancer.
Well, the first road block on the Red Sox road to glory.
No wonder why Schilling said he’d sign today for 13 mill.
Hmmmm
Wishing cancer on an athlete?
That’s beyond classless. We’re better than that.
I hope the Braves can keep it up here vs the Sox.
If 38 Pitches is out for any length of time it definately hurts there depth which has been there biggest strength.
Relax, worriers. Nothing’s wrong with Schilling. He’ll be as good as 34 by his next start.
Red Sox trolls, oh Red Sox trolls…
Looks like Shill is getting old.
“The – fat – boys – are – back… and you know we can never be whack… da dun dun duh da…”
Fat bastard screwed up his shoulder becuase he’s out of shape.. so long fatboy!
Fat Roger
Steroids.
45 years old and going strong.
