Yankees get a mile-high workout in

Impressive turnout by the Yankees for their early workout. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Bobby Abreu, Jorge Posada (taking balls at first with Don Mattingly standing next to him), Miguel Cairo, Melky Cabrera, Robinson Cano and Chris Basak.

Nice day in Colorado, too, and based on all the interlocking NY’s on the 16th Street Mall, there will be a lot of Yankee fans in the house.

Check back later for the lineups. Just keep in mind we’re two hours earlier out here.

Do you mean two hours later? Meaning the game will start at 9pm EST.

  2. zee

    will Posada play first ???

  3. Harsha

no hes 2 hours earlier. the game starts locally at 7pm, but on the east coast its 9pm

Yeah, it’s a late start tonite – 9:00 PM Eastern.

I can’t believe MLB allowed Big Papi on the all star ballot. When I read about it today, I thought it was a misprint, it had to be. No! Papi has played a grand total of 14 innings at 1st this year (in constrast Reyes has played 400 at short) and yet he’s gonna be the starting first baseman. Ugh!

hey, everyone needs to vote: Jeter and ARod are in, but Posada and Cano are a close 2nd

    Pete,
Let me know how Coors is when compared to Pac Bell or AT&T or whatever it is called nowadays out in San Fran after the road trip. I went out to Pac Bell when it first opened and it was amazing and was wondering if Coors was comparable at all. Enjoy the game.

    Dr. Acula,

This is the byproduct of playing in NL stadiums…Ortiz has been Boston’s 1B candidate several times.

As an aside, the team asked MLB to replace his name with Youkilis’ on the player ballots, used to pick many of the backups.

    Hey Pete (or anyone),

When A-Rod takes batting practice, how many does he hit out of the ballpark? Is batting practice performance correlated with game performance, or is it merely for players to warm up and get loose?

    thanks

  9. Gonzo

can we get posada and cano into this godforesaken all star game, i just voted i wont say how many times but alot and its a couple thousand votes away… it sucks, we have ten days so there still is time.

  10. Drew

Pete, you actually took a clear pic, congrats! ;)

  11. Dr. Acula

Ratz! The sinking Mets are gonna place 3 starters in All-Star game (Reyes, Beltran, Wright) and while we’re only gonna place two (Jetes and ARod).

    Stephen-

I know, I know. Papi has only played infield 22 times in the past 390 games (2 1/2 yrs).

  12. melhall3

With all of those guys at the early workout, how does anyone else justify not being there? Josh Phelps? Johnny Damon(receiving treatment?) Nieves(working w/Moose)?

  13. Dr. Acula

    Big Props, Gonzo!

    really, THANKS

  14. Andrew

Oh no! The Yankees are taking batting practice! Haven’t they learned their lesson, the winning started the day they didn’t take batting practice.

    Now they’ll lose 7 in a row.

  15. Jeff NJ

You know Pettitte and Wang are close for the all star game too, not that we have a vote there. I started analyzing the AL starters and this is what I have as of today:

Haren, Verlander, Sabathia and Lackey are Locks.

Beckett, Escobar, Shields and Carmona are the just about locks.

Next group is Bonderman, Blanton, Chien-Ming Wang and Pettitte.

Not sure how many pitchers make it, but they can move up the list if they are solid for the next 2 weeks.

“can we get posada and cano into this godforesaken all star game, i just voted i wont say how many times but alot and its a couple thousand votes away…”

    Cano doesn’t deserve it.

but seriously, who cares about the All Star Game?

  17. Jeff NJ

Only thing I care about the All Star game is that Torre manages it next year during the last year of the current Yankee stadium.

“Only thing I care about the All Star game is that Torre manages it next year during the last year of the current Yankee stadium.”

good point. i would trade all of the yankees’ all star selections for the next 10 years for that to happen.

  19. Drew

Who cares about how many are in the All-Star game? Get me a damn WS championship.

  20. Lori

Isn’t having Ortiz on the ballot about the same as the Yankees having Giambi? He’s also only had about 14 innings at first this year.

  21. felipe from Brazil

I guess 38pitches.com is running out of excuses for his lame starts. The fat a** didn’t post about his last outing yet

  22. Russell W

    Todays lineup:

    1B Alex Rodriguez
    2B Alex Rodriguez
    3B Alex Rodriguez
    SS Alex Rodriguez
    LF Alex Rodriguez
    CF Alex Rodriguez
    RF Alex Rodriguez
    C Alex Rodriguez
    P Alex Rodriguez

    Owned.

  23. Ryan

I went to two of the games last time they were in Colorado. Had an amazing time. Of course the 14 inning 20-10 rain delay game was a blast with 20,000 other Yankee fans.

  24. Andrew

felipe, I think 38pitches was a little too busy catching a plane ride to Boston for his MRI. Maybe all the blogging really took its toll on his elbow!

  25. Larry

    NOTE TO ALL YANKEE FANS:

Jorge Posada is about to be beaten in All Star voting by Tubs Rodriguez. This is a travesty. Posada is hitting .340 and has more HRs than I-Rod, has done just fine behind the dish as well. He is like 150K votes back.

VOTE ALL DAY LONG, PREVENT THIS ATROCITY…I’ve done my part, have you done yours?

  26. Huuz

i’d rather our guys get a few days off than play in the AS game…

the rest could do them well, especially posada.

  27. Doreen

    Larry, –

Are they still cutting off the voting at 25 per person? Because I used my e-mail and both my daughters’ e-mails to vote 75 times altogether. If I can vote again, I will, but, I think I can’t.

By the way, I agree that Cano does not deserve it, he’s not having an All-Star year, but Posada should be in there!
