Pete,

There’s your East Coast bias. I’ll give you DeNiro & Pacino, but San Francisco is a lot closer to Hollywood than it is the Jersey shore & London."

i know you'll never read this, but i'm with you mel.

i actually thought springsteen fell off the map entirely until i started reading this blog.

i like williams and might lump him in with the others. but crystal, bleh. can we trade those 2?

A comment with regards to the 12:06 a.m. update: I was stunned when the Yankees spent so much on Igawa. He was a steady pitcher with some promise in his early years with Hanshin, had a few very good seasons mostly thanks to a great lineup behind him, but nothing overwhelming, and the last few years he has had lots of problems with control and motivation. Definitely not a stud like Matsuzaka (who's pitching load is light as compared to when he was in Japan, so I think worries expressed above about Francona blowing out his arm are miscontrued: America babies its pitchers too much!! Blow out the glass arms in high school/college and in the minors and get on with it) or a thinking pitcher like Okajima or Kuwata (Nomo for that matter). Nice guy, who might thrive, relatively speaking, in a place like Kansas City, but a Yankee? I hope I'm proved wrong having always been a fan of his and of Hanshin, but pinning this on the quality of Japanese hitters or Japanese baseball is absurd: to wit, all the snickers heard all over the baseball world here when the Yanks suckered themselves into believing Igawa was something everyone knew him not to be. I'm not sure who the Yankees have scouting over here, but it doesn't reflect well on Cashman's at all.

Hmmm... Basak's still on this team? Seems like a waste of roster spot to me at this point. I mean, shouldnt he play once in a blue moon?

points. Mariano threw 20 pitches and before tonight did not pitch in 5 days. he can go saturday if he has to.

there pen is not blown out, bruney did not pitch nor farnsworth. relax...

the starters are going longer then early in the yr. and the pen is not really being overused.

matsuzaka throws a ton of pitches 120+ again Francona is going to blow out his arm.. Boston and SD can pitch but SD cannot hit, look at there lineup it is bad....

they need Damon to get healthy or put him on the Dl, but please god get him healthy they do not need cairo and phillips bats both in the lineup..

arod had a great game. Proctor did not do anything wrong I will take a solo jack over a walk late in a game when up by 4 runs every time, walks kill you not solo jacks...

C Dave, Yep a total jackass for that and so many other things and steroids has nothing to do with my opinion of him either.

Yep, just what I was thinking today about Damon. He admitted to using amphetamines constantly, so you have to wonder what else he took or if that was enough. Drugs are bad...

Totally off topic.
Honestly, I think Proctor gave him that pitch so he could be part of the Bonds HR legend. Proctor likes to make himself be known, if you haven't noticed. Smart kid.

OK, I'll give Bonds the homerun...But he's still a complete jackass for the way he poses after he hits 'em.

Marius - Yeah, Damon is starting to look a lot like Giambi...A body breaking down before our eyes, and a ballplayer who is a shadow of his former self performance-wise.

C Dave, the center field is huge. It looks a lot smaller than it is. If that was hit in Yankee stadium, it would have been in the black seats or really right next to them. Took power to hit it that far.
Bonds has power and you need power to hit a HR in that park. It's a pitchers park.

You know, watching the post game, Kay was just saying how uncomfortable everyone was in Denver. I was there in Feb and had a lot of trouble breathing myself. I don't know if 97 degree heat makes it much worse, but you had to figure it did. Gives the Rockies a nice home field advantage and the Yankees a good excuse. Now it's time to do some damage in the 6 games with SF and Bal.

Is Zito hurt or is he pitching this weekend? He's been pretty quiet lately.
I look forward to seeing Wang on the mound. This guy has been having a pretty good season so far and he's been pretty amazing to watch.
