Here is the lineup:

YANKEES
Damon DH
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Matsui LF
Cabrera CF
Cano 2B
Phillips 1B
Igawa LHP (2-1, 7.13)

Pregame chatter: The Yanks will be facing Chad Gaudin (6-3, 3.14). Today is a big one to get considering they’ll be facing Dan Haren tomorrow. … The K-Man faced the Athletics back on April 13. He was 5.1 3 3 2 2 3 that day.

The Yanks will break out with the bats today.

    11-6 final.

  2. YankeesLuv June 30th, 2007 at 11:56 am

Will anyone besides Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter get a hit today?

  3. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 12:08 pm

can we trade farnsworth to the A’s for a sweep? I think that’s worth it.

  4. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 12:09 pm

Yeah, I have a feeling we will be spankin’ the A’s today. I hope Abooboo starts hitting again.

  5. JeffG June 30th, 2007 at 12:11 pm

Rookie starter facing the Yankees? I’m getting ready for us to get no-hit. This team would be better off facing Cy Young, their history versus unknowns is terrible.

  6. Adam June 30th, 2007 at 12:17 pm

Ed Ramirez threw 3 innings last game, struck out 6 and walked none. Can we call this guy up already?

  7. Adam June 30th, 2007 at 12:18 pm

    JeffG, Gaudin isn’t a rookie.

  8. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 12:21 pm

Adam – It should have happened already. Right now, though, I doubt Farns throws another inning so Chris Britton, Sean Henn, or Edwar Ramirez should take his spot.

  9. JeffG June 30th, 2007 at 12:21 pm

    Adam –
I stand corrected, although this is his first year as a full time starter. His prior limited action was out of the pen for Oak, Tor, and TB, so the Yankees have presumably seen him, albeit only minimally.

Still, I stick by my statement: the Yankees, for whatever reason, handle guys like Pedro, but look like little-leaguers facing relative unknowns. That’s a purely anecdotal statement, and maybe even untrue if you look at the numbers. But I’m not holding my breath for a 10 run, 15 hit game today. Iggy better have re-learned how to throw a changeup.

  10. helno51 June 30th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

Maybe Edwar is on some type of probation where he isnt allowed in the state of new york.

  11. Mike NYY June 30th, 2007 at 12:23 pm

can we trade farnsworth to the A’s for a sweep? I think that’s worth it.

Billy Beane is to smart for that

  12. BBFan June 30th, 2007 at 12:33 pm

Reposting from earlier thread where I posted too late.

Regarding Fransworth, many are saying that he should not be upset about being lifted for Maraiano. I sincerely believe that no one in tha bullpen, including Fransworth, gets upset if Mo is coming to replace him. Fransworth was not upset for that reason.

He is either upset at himself or at Torre. It is more likely that he is upset at Torre, for not giving him the opportunity to finish the Job. Yesterday was a difficult situation for Torre to let him continue as he could not afford to tie the game on a single or lose it on a double.

If he is upset at Torre, you could see it coming from any one from the bullpen, not named Mo. Just like many here are upset with Torre’s bullpen moves, these players are upset too, more so. Except that they do not speak up because of potential consequences. We, the arm chair pundits can say any thing we want without any consequences! Did you notice the facial expressions of Vizcaino when was getting lifted during his bad streatch? He was not stupid enough to say some thing or show Toree up. Kyle did that because either he is stupid or he thinks he had enough of Torre. Remember he was lifted like this many times before and he did not do any thing like this.

It is interesting to see how it goes from here. They can not trade him now as they get nothing back. As much as many want to dump him here, that is not how it works in the practical world. See what happened with Vizcaino when he was going bad.

Most likely they will give him a stern warning and not use him for a while or use him only in games out of hand either way.

  13. River Ave Report June 30th, 2007 at 12:38 pm

    LET’S GO YANKEES!

  14. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

BBFan – Farns is done. Farns just doesn’t think. He brought all of this on himself. He was consistent, like IDK, getting some 1-2-3 innings, Farns probably would not have been pulled. He also showed up the defense in Baltimore when he gave an unintelligent reaction to an error the defense made. It was something of disappointment. He displayed disappointment in manner that was unbecoming of a professional baseball player and things were going horribly wrong at that time too. There are ways to express disappointment or frustration, but not like that.

  15. Rattachewy June 30th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

me predict either a shutout, no-hitter, or perfect-game by Gaudin today.

  16. mel June 30th, 2007 at 12:48 pm

It doesn’t matter what Kyle’s intent was. He’s showing frustration not emotion. 3 incidents in the past 2 months alone. That is not the Yankee way. Please don’t say “at least Kyle is showing that he cares…” because if he did, he’d keep his mouth shut and do his job. Look at who shows fight without the outbursts: Jeter, Mariano, Posada, and yes, Alex, too. After 3 years, he’s finally getting it. Show up, shut up, put up.

By the way, that was some sparkling defense out there yesterday. Which was good, because a Moose meltdown was thankfully averted. Matsui has been especially good in LF.

  17. Dan Walsh June 30th, 2007 at 12:49 pm

    Oakland:
    1) Stewart, LF
    2) Ellis, 2B
    3) Swisher, RF
    4) Cust, DH
    5) Chavez, 3B
    6) Johnson, 1B
    7) Crosby, SS
    8) Kotsay, CF
    9) Kendall, C

  18. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 12:55 pm

I hope Iggy shows some more consistency in his mechanics this time around. Somebody please help Cano with his approach at the plate.

  19. TKinDC June 30th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

    Pete:

This is off topic but I thought you would enjoy the “fair and balanced” reporting by Gordon Edes of the Boston/NY media game which you posted about a few weeks ago:

I wasn’t there, but there was a bit of a dustup after a villainous New York writer (sources tell me it was Bob Klapisch, a/k/a the Doctor of Darkness) beaned the noble Uri Berenguer, the Spanish-language broadcaster who earlier in the game had been involved in a collision at the plate. The valorous Berenguer rightfully objected to this egregious breach of sportsmanship by the scurrilous Klapisch, and into the fray waded that pillar of rectitude, Carl Beane, who when he isn’t serving as the club’s PA announcer (he’s available for weddings, too) dons a full Sox uniform to serve as manager of the manly Boston media nine. Beane, who is slight of stature, broad of girth, but whose bravery knows no bounds, leaped forth from the Sox dugout and issued a challenge to the entire New York nine, but cowards that they are, they cowered in their flip-flops and, quaking, implored the umpires to allow them to resume play before the mighty Beane sent them scurrying out of the Fens like the rats they are.

  20. Russell W June 30th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

How about trading farnsworth for an Angels sweep?

  21. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

    gargoyle…. Nope… 8-5 Yankees… Mo gets 2 saves in a row.

  22. Rattachewy June 30th, 2007 at 1:20 pm

    Gaudin perfect through one inning!

  23. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

russell – done… do it now..

  24. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 1:27 pm

how about 1 win vs the angles? i mean who really thinks this team can win one vs LAA?

  25. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

    Iggy is dealing.

  26. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

    the 1998 Yankees could…

Anyone hear anything about Abreau batting 3rd and why???? Think he would be much better coming off the bench to greet ARod after a home run.

  27. TKinDC June 30th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Don’t pick on Farnsy – he is very sensitive and you might make him throw his little glove into the dugout wall.

  28. Global Warming June 30th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

This Kei Igawa is an illusion. Better score some runs quick!

  29. Lil' Jimmy Norden June 30th, 2007 at 1:35 pm

    We want Shelley!

Mr. Cashman, call up Shelley Duncan immediately.

    That is all.

  30. kris June 30th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

    Rattachewy:

Sorry, no perfect game for Gaudin… No-hitter still possible.

  31. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:40 pm

    Good illusionist… 20 strikes, 7 balls… interesting.

  32. Russell W June 30th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    athletics won =(

  33. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

Jason Kendall second homer of the year….

    OPS .515

  34. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

Jason Kendall hits a homerun. This is a sad day when Jason Kendall hits a homerun on ya.

  35. Russell W June 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pm

back to back! game is definitely over now

  36. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pm

Can Kei find strike zone? Does this guy care at all?

  37. Global Warming June 30th, 2007 at 1:44 pm

    The illusion is ovah!

Time to score some runs boys.

  38. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

    Back to Back Jacks

  39. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

    Shannon Stewart too???!!!! Yikes.

  40. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

And so much for the illusion…. What is the deal with this whack job? Other than Dice-K (at least for this year) do any of these Japanese players sack it up when the going gets tough?

  41. Russell W June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

this will be a game where mariano and proctor will pitch 4 combined innings. just watch

  42. TKinDC June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

    Good call Global – - – ugh!

  43. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Remind me again why we paid huge $$ for this Igawa guy?? WHAT A JOKE!!

  44. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

Is the Kei Igawa of innings 1 and 2 the one the Yanks thought they signed, because he sure looked good then.

  45. Russell W June 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

i love walking the bottom of the lineup on 4 pitches

  46. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

ick.. now Waldman is trying to justify this guys failures … give me a friggin break. Where did SHE come from?

  47. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

    ouch :(

  48. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

at least it was walk homerun homerun

  49. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

    “Where did SHE come from?”

    Boston

  50. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 1:47 pm

    *wasn’t

  51. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

Torre doesn’t even bother to look at Guridy as he call up the bullpen to warm up… Jesus Christ

  52. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

How quick before Igawa is pulled?

  53. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

    Come on Iggy!!!

  54. mel June 30th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

    Hey, where’d Igawa go?

  55. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

We got out of the inning!!! Hoorah!!! But Cano is hitting first :(

  56. JeffG June 30th, 2007 at 1:53 pm

Brilliant move signing Kei for $50 million. Surely no one in the minors could crap up the rotation like this for $400,000 a year. Thumbs up Cashman!

  57. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

when was teh last time Cano saw more than 3 pitches? Walks not included cuz ya need 4.

  58. mel June 30th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

Cano has never met a pitch he didn’t like.

  59. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 2:02 pm

Igawa’s pitch are so minor-leagueish like, they are so hittable, don’t see him last past 5, gonna be busy bullpen today

  60. mel June 30th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

Kei’s doing o.k. I’ve seen Matsuzaka have worst innings than Kei’s third. The problem here is the offense.

  61. Andrea June 30th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

I don’t get igawa. He freaks out so easily

  62. Wait Til Next Year June 30th, 2007 at 2:13 pm

    What offense?

  63. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:14 pm

4 innings and still no hits… this team just sucks!

Can’t believe that they can’t hit…. We are going to get swept by KC.

  64. Andrea June 30th, 2007 at 2:21 pm

When was the last time the Yankees were no hit?

  65. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:21 pm

5 innings and this guy hasn’t even hit 60 pitches…

Call 911 and tell the Yankees they have a baseball game today….

  66. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:22 pm

houston interleague at Yankee stadium a couple years ago, I think

  67. Rattachewy June 30th, 2007 at 2:23 pm

As I said before the game, me predict either a shutout, no-hitter, or perfect-game by Gaudin today.

Seriously, yanks have no chance against guys like Gaudin and Haren.

  68. YanksFanLV June 30th, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Will Cano ever learn plate patience?

  69. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:24 pm

Atta boy Cano… They should just start saving the other pitchers arms and just call Cano, Abreau, Matsui as automatic outs. The game would move along much faster.

This is ridiculous. No wonder my blood pressure medicine is not working….. F****** Yankees…..

  70. Andrea June 30th, 2007 at 2:28 pm

I am listening sporadically and they haven’t said recently. Is igawa still pitching?

  71. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Yes, and since the two home runs he is actually pitching well enough to win. Problem is that his offense that usually accompanies a TEAM, is at home watching repeats of teh NBA draft.

  72. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 2:31 pm

maybe this team needs to get nohit to wake them up.

  73. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    ah crap.

  74. chazz h June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

The Yanks knocked Haren out of the game after 5 innings in Oakland earlier this year- (that was the game Scutaro hit the homer)- so I think it is a little unfair to say ‘they have no chance against Haren”

The way they are hitting now- it is going to be hard for them to beat anybody- whether it be Haren or Kennedy or anyone.

  75. mel June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    Andrea,

Yes, he’s still pitching. Got the first 2 guys, walked the 3rd. 1-2 on Johnson. Scratch that 4-0 A’s.

  76. Steve Balboni June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    Thanks Brian!

  77. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

Look at Igawa’s face, even Kei himself don’t believe he belongs here…

  78. JeffG June 30th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Yeah, Kei is awesome. 2 run dinger on a 1-2 count.

I repeat: we don’t have a minor leaguer who can chuck junk for $400,000 a year instead of this $50 million mess?

  79. TKinDC June 30th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Isn’t it time for the ritual sacrifice of the hitting coach?

I seriously don’t think it would make any difference and I couldn’t pick Long out of a police line-up but the baseball gods clearly must be satisfied.

  80. chazz h June 30th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

anyone watching on tv? was the pitch before the homer a strike?

Angel Hernandez is notoriously inconsistent with his ball/strike calls.

  81. JeffG June 30th, 2007 at 2:34 pm

Although, with the way the bats are, what difference does it make if the Yankees are down 2-0, 4-0, or 40-0? They can’t hit my grandmother.

  82. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:34 pm

If this team gets no hit… Kevin Long gets fired… If not, he is safe until the All Star break.

Yankees need to go 7-3 on this home stand to save jobs. Otherwise, Long is gone. Kerrigan is gone (should have been a long time ago), Guidry, possibly.

  83. mel June 30th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

On the overhead cam it was just off the plate.

  84. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

has the home crowd started booing igawa yet? I’m booing him here if it matters.

  85. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 2:39 pm

At least Kay did something right and talked about the no hitter.

  86. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:39 pm

    WE GOT A HIT. HOORAH!!!!

  87. TKinDC June 30th, 2007 at 2:40 pm

    Cue the Rocky theme music!

  88. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

    TJ,

Oh yeah, crowd is booing Igawa, but is that even matter? Won’t see him come back out for 7th, that’s for sure.

  89. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

TJ you should boo Cano, Matsui, Abreau, Damon…these suckwads are collecting paychecks and doing nothing more.

  90. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Igawa hasn’t been THAT bad… all the runs were scored with 2 outs… i think he’ll eventually turn it around

  91. Global Warming June 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

    Festivus Miracle!

How about another Festivus Miracle by A-Rod?

  92. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Alex needs to hit a homer here

  93. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Here comes Torre on the dugout step with a bat !!

  94. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:44 pm

    They will walk him

  95. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Abooboo did something useful. He didn’t bunt. go A-Rod!!!

  96. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

I can’t see the game since I’m at work. I’m just reading the play by play. Hard to know what’s going on. Thanks guys I was faulting the wrong guy.

  97. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

So much for that rally. Somebody needs to step up like Shelley Duncan. Oh wait, he ain’t here.

  98. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

Gamecast keeps freezing. Sucks when you can’t view it. I been trying to get a live feed everywhere for free

  99. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:49 pm

TJ – I’m in Turkey so I’m using the internet. Try this: http://live.protrade.com/yankees/20070630

  100. Ben June 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm

The HRs are not great, but I’ll take 4 ERs from Igawa every time out. This is all on the bats, who are making Gaudin look better than he is.

  101. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

The ever imploding Proctor. Should be interesting.

  102. mel June 30th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

What a world we live in now, when you’d rather keep Igawa in than see Proctor.

  103. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 2:54 pm

    E-ROC,

wow, you are right on the point …….

  104. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 2:56 pm

E-Roc thanks…this is so much better.

  105. Steve Dvorak June 30th, 2007 at 2:58 pm

How far away is Hughe’s return? Early August at the earliest?

  106. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:58 pm

    This is disturbing.

  107. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 2:59 pm

    Steve Dvorak- Late July

  108. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

Is Mo available? man this is unbelievable.

  109. MelHall27 June 30th, 2007 at 3:00 pm

You know, people talk about the early 90′s Yanks, but these guys remind of the early 90′s Mets when they went out an bought Bobby Bo, Eddie Murray, Bret Saberhagen, etc and stunk it up.

Klapish and Harper wrote a book about them – The Worst Team Monet Could Buy. “Even before the New York Mets began the 1992 season, they had set a critical record: the highest payroll ever for a major-league team, $45 million. With players Bobby Bonilla, Vince Coleman, Bret Saberhagen, and Howard Johnson, winning another championship seemed a mere formality. The 1992 New York Mets never made it to Cooperstown, however.”

Maybe we can get them to write a sequel about these guys.

  110. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:01 pm

    This is not happening.

  111. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:01 pm

The ever imploding Proctor. Should be interesting…………..He gets rest and still can’t get people out. Since Cash is looking for some moves, how about adding Edwar Ramirez, Sean Henn, and Chris Britton to the bullpen.

  112. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Moose make me feel a little better

  113. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

E ROC.. that is cool.. Thanks.

Well it is now 6-0 Yanks lost this game will lose tomorrow against Haren…split with Minnesota, and lose 2-3 to Anaheim..

    Officially, the season is over.

Question, what is the difference between Proctor and Farnsworth?

  114. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

I had a bad feeling when I saw Swisher at bat.

  115. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:03 pm

Question, what is the difference between Proctor and Farnsworth

    Co Yank amazing isn’t it?

  116. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

    Comeon Myers

  117. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

We should be selling at the deadline. This is ridiculous. We can’t get anybody out from the Oakland A’s. I pray Phil Hughes comes back tomorrow. Damn, that can’t happen.

  118. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

If Myer can’t get lefty outs, what is he worth?

  119. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

    No more freaking walks today.

  120. Andrew June 30th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

Why is Myers still on the team?

  121. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:06 pm

    Get Mo in there now.

  122. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

Myers, you are in there to get one man out. ONE SINGLE SOLITARY MAN!!!! How hard is that? Seriously, how hard can it be to get an out?!

  123. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

does anyone remember in 2005 when the yankees scored 13 runs in the bottom of the 8th vs tampa?

    Go yankees!

  124. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

    Wang? Rivera? Clemmons? Game over?

  125. Colorado Yank June 30th, 2007 at 3:08 pm

TJ it is… Think Farnsworth is taller. But that is about it.

If I were Cashman, I would go public and say that the team is available for trades – exception of a few. Yanks will just eat some contracts and take some mid level prospects and some bench players. Got to be better than this crap.

But now I know what employees of GM, Enron, airlines, must feel like. All this money and no one likes the product.

  126. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 3:09 pm

    AHHHHHH

why didnt meyers int walk? i hate when they bring in a new pitcher to intent walk… AHHHHHHH

  127. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:09 pm

Rocco we could use a repeat of that today. I mean we don’t even have one run

  128. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:10 pm

Myers gone. Farns gone. Vizcaino gone. Edwar Ramirez, Chris Britton, and Sean Henn in.

  129. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:10 pm

let me rephrase that. We don’t have one lousy runner that scored

  130. Chris June 30th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Cashman should be fired for continuing to let Mike Myers waste a spot on the 25 man roster when theres much better alternatives in the minors.

  131. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Thank you this inning is finally over. Two out, three different pitchers and this inning felt like it lasted forever.

  132. Steve Balboni June 30th, 2007 at 3:14 pm

At least with the 1992 Mets, those guys *should* have produced and were generally coming off good seasons, so you couldn’t really blame the GM.

    Cashman chose to rely on:

Matsui – numbers have been dropping since his first year and has a million miles on him

Damon – poor CF who is always banged up and playing through it

Abreu – his loss of power shouldn’t be a surprise since its been trending downward, but his loss of average is a surprise, so you can’t blame that on Cashman.

Cano – has been awful but no one expected this.

Giambi getting worse and being injured shouldn’t haven been a surprise.

Mussina – has been getting worse every year.

Clemens – 45 year old who was a 6 inning pitcher in the NL

Igawa – reactionary move in response to Boston

Farnsworth – was bad last year. Has never been great.

Bruney – had a few good innings last year, but there is a reason he was dumped by the D-Backs.

Myers – has been ok. Hasn’t been much worse than his last few years.

    Nieves – an embarrassment.

Cairo/Phelps/Cabrera – are what they are.

Thats a lot of guys who would have had to either improve over their career numbers or stop their deep declines.

The only surprises on this team are Cano, Vizcaino, Abreu (to an extent) and Posada (a good surprise). Everyone else is doing exactly what they should have expected.

This team is more like the 03 Mets – Vaughn, Burnitz etc. While Alomar’s crash wasn’t expected, relying on Burnitz and Vaughn was lunacy.

  133. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:17 pm

Is there any new hope left for us leading into the 8th inning maybe?

  134. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:18 pm

What is Cashman doing? He says he wants to make small moves. Trade Myers, Farns, and Vizcaino. There are 3 relievers in the minors waiting. Promote Shelley Duncan. Demote Basak.

  135. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

I would give anything to be a fly on that wall in the clubhouse after a Yankkee loss. I don’t care what our captain says at this point. There has got to be some head butting somewhere. I admire our captain when he says lead by example. It doesn’t seem as if he has many leading by his example lately other than Alex, Posada and maybe Rivera or a couple others. Damon is injured and Gam is out injured. I don’t know who can boost the morale there anymore.

  136. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:22 pm

I know everyone admires Jeter and so do I. I don’t blame him but blame the players who aren’t following his lead. He plays his butt off out there and I think Alex and Posada are too but are the others sleep walking?

  137. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

The others are either on the wrong side of thirty, injured, or can’t play at all.

  138. hughman June 30th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

On proctor, he is having a very rough stretch.

But last year he had 5+ era in May and June. Pre all-star break, he had a 4.53 era in 55 innings. He gave up 9 home runs, and had a 1.35 whip. The best thing about him was a 48/23 k/bb rate in first half.

His k/bb rate isn’t as good this year. Still, he may have been worse last year in the first half due to the gopheritis.

In the second half last year, he sparkled.

47 innings. Far from wearing down, he got better. 41/100 k/bb ratio. He walked less than 2 per 9 in second half. Only 3 dingers. 1.01 whip.

I bet he picks it up again in second half.

  139. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

wth is with these walks today? It doesn’t seem that we have been benefiting much from them today.

Just look over my comments in frustration. I’m merely venting.

  140. 26 ringzzzzzzz June 30th, 2007 at 3:27 pm

We should have spent the 100 million on Dicek, cannot believe we spent 50 million on Kei, what a total micalculation by Cashman.

  141. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:27 pm

I hope we can pick everything up in the second half. Maybe the allstar break can be some tension relief. If not for the players maybe for me. This half of the season has had me almost pulling my hair out or I’ll be bald before I’m 25

  142. Scrantonian June 30th, 2007 at 3:29 pm

Please call up Edwar. I have season tickets for the SWB Yanks, and this kid is dominant. 26.2 IP 13 H 2 ER 9 BB 47!! K’s 0.67 ERA 0.82 WHIP. Last night he threw 3IP 0H 0BB 6K against a good Buffalo team (Cleveland).

  143. Rocco June 30th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

LOL harden’s pants are hiked way up.

  144. ft June 30th, 2007 at 3:31 pm

    Trade Proctor,, HE stinks…Blame Cashman

  145. hughman June 30th, 2007 at 3:34 pm

Bring up Edwar, but don’t trade proctor at his low ebb.

How hard does edwar throw? What’s his strikeout pitch. Good lord, he is 26 years old and this is his first year above A ball. But he’s found something, i guess.

  146. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

I think this may be the last we see of harden if we score

  147. TJ June 30th, 2007 at 3:38 pm

If we don’t score now Torre needs to have a serious coming to Jesus meeting after the game in that club house.

  148. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:45 pm

We can’t buy a clutch hit. Jeter battled for like 10 minutes, but struck out. Then Abreu struck out faster than u can say scrub.

  149. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Villone has my respect. Doesn’t get adequate time on the mound, yet comes into games and does his job. He has complain about PT either. That’s a sign of a true professional. Take note Farns. This game is over. I’m sorry for not being optimistic but I don’t think this offense will wake up anytime soon.

  150. Dean June 30th, 2007 at 4:00 pm

Looks like the Con-Ed blackout zapped our bats.

    this week:

    2 shutouts

    3 two run productions

and now 17 consecutive scoreless innings.

Did Red Sox fan Stephen King hire some Gypsies to curse us, as in “Thinner” ??

Yes the great Johnny Damon did it.

  159. The Yankees June 30th, 2007 at 5:10 pm

    Bill James says…

A few minutes ago, I got curious… what really is wrong with the Yankees? Why don’t we have more wins? Taking a look at the Bill James Pythagoreon Theorem (or ESPN’s derived ExpectedWins stat) the Yankees Expected Win-Loss record is 44-33. Their current actual record is 37-40. This is a -7 game gap, which is by far and away the biggest in baseball. Arizona is +6 in their actual record, but then again, they play in the NL West.

Taking a closer look at the numbers, we see the Giants are second worst in wins translating to their ExWins total, coming in a -5.

So here’s the question…. why, when the Yankees have decent numbers, are they so bloody bad?

I hate to bring it down to all one stat, but is it really all about the 1-run games in which we have a brutal record this season? If we were performing to our ExWins total, we’d be 5 games back of Boston… funny how a season goes.

    Anyway, thoughts anyone?

  160. loloo June 30th, 2007 at 5:12 pm

edwar ramirez, chris britton, and sean henn all need to be called up instead of the junk we have in our pen now.

  161. CGramazio June 30th, 2007 at 5:16 pm

Just hold on to your hats everyone; changes have to come at the All-Star break. It makes no sense now. Just wait, somebody will have to take the fall.

If it’s Torre I do wonder how that will effect his long term relationship with the Yankees. Surely you have to figure his number will be retired when he’s done, and there will most assuredly be a Joe Torre Day. But how long will the wait be if he’s axed? But really, that’s peripheral at the moment. A shakeup is long overdue…and it’s probably too late at this point, but, if they’re going to do a short rebuild, they might as well start right now. You can’t risk fielding a bad team for the inaugural year of the new stadium…can you?

I for one would like to see some of these young guys everyone keeps talking about. It might bring a little excitement.

  162. E-ROC June 30th, 2007 at 5:17 pm

The Yankees – Translation: Trade Farns and Myers. Demote Basak. Promote Chris Britton, Sean Henn and Shelley Duncan. We can get Michael Bourn for Farns and Myers. Or geta back up catcher JD Closser or Jose Molina.

  163. The Yankees June 30th, 2007 at 5:30 pm

Cashman – ” We like Proctor’s Arm, He had tremedous makeup. right now He’s suffering from fatigue for being overused.

Joe -” Right now, Scottie doesn’t trust his stuff, His loses his released point and mechanics out of whacked. It’s all about confidence with him”

  164. Alfred June 30th, 2007 at 5:30 pm

‘Every champion has a great closer’ is a sentence uttered in baseball more and more.

We’ve got a great closer. But if we look solely on this season, our closer ain’t great. Not that he’s not pitching a hell of a game right now, but he’s on pace for only 22 saves or something like that.

This is by no means a knock on Rivera. The point I’m trying to make is that it’s the other way around: a championship team makes for a great closer. The stat I’m referring here to is Save Opportunities.

The other 24 Yanks besides Rivera only created some 15-17 SO’s this year and that’s why we ain’t winning. It’s not about offense (which ranks pretty good) or the starting pitching (it’s been more than half-decent since May) but the way we do it: blowouts or getting shut-out. That simply makes for a .500 team.

If you create 30-40 SO’s a year, you simply can’t sustain winning baseball. The solution? Don’t know if you can do much about offense, a big offense is still unpredictable on a day-to-day base, exhibit 1 being ALDS 2006.

We may scratch out 5-7 extra SO’s or so by adding some pop from the bench and reinforcing our bullpen, but at this rate it ain’t enough. We need good luck more than anything.

  165. hugh June 30th, 2007 at 5:44 pm

CC, thanks for the Edwar info.

  166. satan June 30th, 2007 at 5:46 pm

Jacoby Ellsbury has been called by Satan, I mean The Redsox to replaced Crisp who’s going to Dl

  167. Stuart June 30th, 2007 at 5:48 pm

I did not have the pleasure of seeing the game today but some trends continu, I guess that is why the ycall them trends..

Myers continues to dominate lefties!!!Can we just DFA him, really he sucks..

Kei continues to give up long balls in astonishing #’s.

Our lefty studs keep on keeping on; damon, abreu, cano, and abreu are dominating!!!!!!!

AGAIN I AM a one note pony so; can we really do worse with ramirez, britton, and duncan on the team???????Really……

To say the Yanks are pathetic is an understatement……

  168. Stuart June 30th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

I meant Matsui as the 4th blind mice lefty… ANd who ever posted Matsui has many miles on him and has been going down for yrs. is wrong the guy is 33 not 38, he missed 100 + games last yr. with an injury…

  169. YanksSox June 30th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

    Satan
    “Crisp who’s going to Dl”

Pineiro went to the DL not Coco.

They might just be cautious with Coco and definitely don’t trust Wily Mo in Center

  170. Stef June 30th, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Matsui DOES have a lot of miles on him — he refused to take a day off when needed because of that streak. Made me crazy at the time. One big block of time off does not equate with geniune rest over a long period of playing time.

  171. Stuart June 30th, 2007 at 6:05 pm

Myers a lefty specialist is that a joke!!!!!

It is mind boggling that the Yanks have not had a good lefty specialist in about 7 yrs or more………………

Then again they have not had a good backup catcher in about the same amount of time……….

The only good news today is Hughes should be back in less then a month…………The other good news is one less day; farnsworth, myers, vizciano, villone, nieves, and abreu are Yanks… All those clowns contracts are up at the end of the yr except all the fans favorite Farnsworth…His knickname(however you spell it) should be perfect inning Farnsworth for his efficient and clean work out of the pen…..

  172. EricVA June 30th, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Ok, we get it, people want Henn, Britton and Ramirez up. Stop posting it. here’s a good question…if you could blow up the roster right now, without any contract problems, who would you keep?

    I keep:

Posada, A-Rod, Jeter, Cano, Cabrera, Wang, Pettitte, Villone, Proctor and Rivera.

  173. JayNJ June 30th, 2007 at 6:29 pm

Called up Edwar Ramirez, Shelly Duncan, Gerrado Casidiego, and Hitoki Iwase

Hitoki Iwase is left hander veteran closer he’s better than myers and farnswothless

    here his stats

    2005 46 Saves 50+ mound appearance
    2006 40 saves

yanks should get this guy soon or next year

  174. Bob Michaels June 30th, 2007 at 6:39 pm

This Yankee team has no power outside of A-Rod, Posada. The outfield is powerless, You say they don`t need an outfielder, i beg to differ, They will have to obtain a CF and Rf or develop what they have in the system. First base is another disaster area, so is the bench. This team can go 81& 81 this year.I look foward to 2009 as the year they return to championship form

  175. C.C June 30th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

also Kosuke Fukudome will become a free agent in august in japan and said that he will play in the major leuges he is an out he can play all outfield position but right field would fit him best with bobby abreu gone he can fill in for him he is an on base machine with power to the gaps and is a fierce competiter red sox are also intrested in him but unless they want a six man outfield rotation but fukudome also could play thirdbase but scouts think his days playin there is over

  176. 379 June 30th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

fukudome is also mastui countryman so that may help the yankees

This isn’t scrappy at all. Trade Farns, Myers, Vizcaino. Promote Senn Henn, Britton, and Ramirez. Nuff Said. Trade Abreu to the White Sox for Brian Anderson. Trade for Michael Bourn or JD Closser or Jose Molina.

  179. Marius July 1st, 2007 at 1:38 am

This is so sad. Cashman put together a good team on paper but not on the field. No balance of power with get on base guys.
Just goes to show what the loss of power bats does to the Yankees.
Goes to show what a Lefty heavy lineup does.
Last season we had 1 – 9 of hitters that gave pitchers no break at all.
This season, the Yankees aren’t scary and they get breaks in between.
Damon isn’t hitting like he should so pitchers can get him out easily.
Jeter is a hitting machine, so pitchers get some real work in. Then comes Abreu and pitchers can relax again.
A-Rod comes in and pitchers are on edge.
Posada puts them on edge, then they get a rest till Jeter comes up again. It just isn’t a scary lineup anymore.
It’s average. This is why pitchers are looking so good against the Yanks.

This is so depressing to watch. How about Cashman doesn’t sign anymore All Star alumni. Let’s go after youth that plays hard to win. Loosen the strict rules in the clubhouse and lose this BUSINESS ATMOSPHERE crap. Let the players be themselves and a bit more free. Let them have fun.
Rather than the “win or die” attitude they need to lighten the pressure put on the players. GO OUT AND KICK ASS would be a better motto.

Yuck to this season so far. It’s sad. I grew up watching a losing Yankees team so I can deal with what is going on, but it’s sad to watch. Took me till the age of 24 (i’m going on 35 now) before I got to see a winning Yankees team. I’ve been spoiled and want more. I’ve been through enough losing. Need more winning.

  180. E-ROC July 1st, 2007 at 2:07 am

There is a rumor that Edwar Rameriz will be in a Yankees uniform Sunday. The rumor does have legs too. We’ll see.
