Alex Rodriguez received the most votes for the All-Star team, ahead of Derek Jeter. Jorge Posada was elected by the players. Here’s the AL team:

1B: David Ortiz (Red Sox)
2B: Placido Polanco (Tigers)
SS: Derek Jeter (Yankees)
3B: Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)
C: Pudge Rodriguez (Tigers)
OF: Magglio Ordonez (Tigers)
OF: Vlad Guerrero (Angels)
OF: Ichiro Suzuki (Mariners)
SP: C.C. Sabathia (Indians)
SP: Josh Beckett (Red Sox)
SP: John Lackey (Angels)
SP: Dan Haren (Athletics)
SP: Gil Meche (Royals)
SP: Johan Santana (Twins)
RP: Jonathan Papelbon (Red Sox)
RP: J.J. Putz (Mariners)
RP: Francisco Rodriguez (Angels)
RP: Bobby Jenks (White Sox)

Reserves
1B: Justin Morneau (Twins)
2B: Brian Roberts (Orioles)
SS: Carlos Guillen (Tigers)
SS: Michael Young (Rangers)
3B: Mike Lowell (Red Sox)
C: Jorge Posada (Yankees)
C: Victor Martinez (Indians)
OF: Torii Hunter (Twins)
OF: Grady Sizemore (Indians)
OF: Manny Ramirez (Red Sox)
OF: Alex Rios (Blue Jays)
OF: Carl Crawford (Devil Rays)

The “Final Vote” is between Roy Halladay, Kelvin Escobar, Jeremy Bonderman, Hideki Okajima and Pat Neshek.

Unreal that Okajima could make the team and Daisuke Matsuzaka did not. You could have won a lot of yen making that bet back in February.

I don’t get the sense that any Yankees were snubbed, well unless you count Gold Glover Josh Phelps.

I don’t want to watch the ninth inning of an all-star game if Mo won’t be pitching in it.

  2. TJ

Good to have at least three Yankees representing. These are our best players so far. Glad to see Jorge on there deservingly so. Glad to see Alex leading votes. No doubt he’s made some big plays in the game despite the team loses.

Indians Sizemore is having a great year so far. Glad to see him make the team. Met the guy and he’s down to earth and stayed almost an hour trying to sign everyone’s autograph and take pictures. Really nice guy.

Rangers- Michael Young also a good player. Fan favorite in Texas. Too bad Sosa isn’t on the list. He’s had a pretty decent season for the Rangers.

Pudge will always hold a soft spot. Met him at camp while he was still with Rangers. The guy was always an inspiration to us all. My buddies and I would wait for Pudge before the game to talk to us. He would always come out before the games to sign autographs and chat. Always a good dude and a fan favorite. Good team player.

    Thanks Pete.

    Any NL player updates yet?

  3. biz

Redsox have 5 all stars going to frisco meanwhile Yankees have three

Papelbon replaces Rivera ? No rivera this year?

  4. cOR

thats cause rivera never pitches and he has an inflated ERA

  5. Ross www.nyystadiuminsider.com

    Jorge Posada got snubbed.

The fact that Pudge is starting over him is ridiculous.

Check out the stats – Jorge trumps him in EVERY single stat.

Pathetic ballot box stuffing by Tigers’ fans.

  6. #9

Who is this Rivera people keep talking about?

  7. biz

How many rings that Papelbon have? It’s Mariano were talking here.. He’s best closer of all time… Look at his postseason numbers. comeon now.

  8. 2007 Yankees

Statheads are starting a rally to get Phelps added!

  9. 2007 Yankees

Mo doesn’t belong there THIS year.
Personally, NO Yankees should be going. They should all be having mandatory batting practice over those 3 days.

  10. Jim Clark

Bud Selig should put Doug Mientkiewicz and Carl Pavano on the team to give the NL a fair chance.

  11. Yanks in '07

    Andy Pettitte?

  12. biz

Manny Ramirez to all star game? Is this joke.. Lol. He had only 11 homeruns this year … Not mariano. Hmm…

  13. #9

    “Andy Pettitte?”

I think he pitches for the NY Yankees.

  14. Dr. Acula

I love Manny, but he should thank ESPN’s highlight reel bias for this selection.

Oakland’s Jack Cust and Swisher should be there.

  15. andrew 33

objectively speaking – youkilis should be on the team – and i hate the sox – but that guy has been raking all year

  16. b/c

    Posada should have started

  17. biz

I agree Jack Cust should be an All Star . He has fourteen homeruns better than Youkilis. Today He went 3-for 5 .

  18. Yanks in '07

Andy Pettitte got snubbed. I know every team has to have someone representing them, but Gil Meche over Pettitte? No way. Before today’s game, he had a respectable 3.24 ERA…and having the bullpen blow a few games for him.

  19. Peter Abraham

Royals needed a player. Meche had to go. You can make a case for Andy but not a great one.

  20. mark

“You can make a case for Andy but not a great one.”

On what planet? Dice-k should be there before Pettitte.

  21. Pelotero

Oye Ross what about triples mentiroso?

8 HR vs 9 HR is a landslide, as are the 43 vs 45 ribbies.

Maybe you should have got off your culo and voted on mlb.com

  22. Jeremy

    Posada: .333/.402/.525, 137 OPS+

    Pudge: .283/.296(!!!)/.449, 95 OPS+

Great voting there, morons. Maybe some fans thought they were voting for Alex Rodriguez?

  23. Jeremy

Pelotero, I think your knowledge of both baseball and Spanish needs work. You can’t objectively say that Pudge is better than Posada this season. You just can’t. Posada is one of the best hitters in the league at any position and has played 9 more games than Pudge so far. Pudge has a sub-.300 OBP.

I doubt you know whether Ross voted on mlb.com, but he could have done so while remaining on his culo.

  24. YankeesLuv

Nice to see Arod get some love by the fans. He’s had a great season. The three Yankees that are going to the all star game are well deserving. How is Ortiz a 1b?

  25. Matthew

Pudge is a great player, but either Jorge or Victor Martinez should be starting over him. We all clamor for Posada and he deserves it but Victor has been equally as valuable to teh Tribe.

  26. Nick M

I love when red sox fans say that they could care less about the Yanks, but here they are spending time on the Yankees blog.

  27. Brian C

I would say Mo was snubbed. For years we have had bums in the all star game due to the “lifetime achievement award.” No Mo? How does Jenks make the team? Is the guy really much above your average closer?

  28. mark

“I love when red sox fans say that they could care less about the Yanks, but here they are spending time on the Yankees blog.”

Not sure what is funnier. That guys comment or your certainty that he’s a red sox fan.

  29. Yanks in '07

“On what planet? Dice-k should be there before Pettitte.”

Just because Deuce-K has more wins than Pettitte does not mean he deserves to be there more. Pettitte has been screwed out of some wins, but has a lower ERA, and for the most part, has pitched well. I’m not sure, but Jenks doesn’t really deserve to be on the team. I think three closers is enough.

But, Jorge didn’t completely get snubbed. He still made it, albeit as a reserve. He deserves to start over Pudge. He leads him in pretty much every offensive category (I’m too lazy to look up the stats).

  30. Marius

Papelbon is a better closer this year. Mariano isn’t the same as he used to be. Stop judging players on their career stats. Players decline and Mo has declined. He isn’t as automatic as he once was. Papelbon is now a far better closer.
Mariano was a great closer and will go into the HOF for the things he has done, but there are closers out there who are better than him now and if they continue will be compared to Mo.
Papelbon deserves to be at the All Star Game. Mo does not.
Although at least he would get some work in if he did go. Not like Torre uses him enough.

  31. Mr Faded Glory

Did Josh Phelps kick Pete’s dog or something?

  32. jennifer

At least the players were smarter than the fans, in voting in Jorge.

  33. hmmm

“Andy Pettitte got snubbed. I know every team has to have someone representing them, but Gil Meche over Pettitte? No way”

    Meche – ERA+ 146
    Pettitte – ERA+ 112, before yesterday – 131

  34. saucy

Jenks is the only guy from the White Sox.

and God I’ve always hated Pudge.

  35. ...

There is no way that Manny Ramirez deserves to be on the All Star Team… no way.

    Sheffield got snubbed…bad.
