Papelbon is a better closer this year. Mariano isn’t the same as he used to be. Stop judging players on their career stats. Players decline and Mo has declined. He isn’t as automatic as he once was. Papelbon is now a far better closer.
Mariano was a great closer and will go into the HOF for the things he has done, but there are closers out there who are better than him now and if they continue will be compared to Mo.
Papelbon deserves to be at the All Star Game. Mo does not.
Although at least he would get some work in if he did go. Not like Torre uses him enough.

Just because Deuce-K has more wins than Pettitte does not mean he deserves to be there more. Pettitte has been screwed out of some wins, but has a lower ERA, and for the most part, has pitched well. I’m not sure, but Jenks doesn’t really deserve to be on the team. I think three closers is enough.

But, Jorge didn’t completely get snubbed. He still made it, albeit as a reserve. He deserves to start over Pudge. He leads him in pretty much every offensive category (I’m too lazy to look up the stats).

I would say Mo was snubbed. For years we have had bums in the all star game due to the “lifetime achievement award.” No Mo? How does Jenks make the team? Is the guy really much above your average closer?
