Game 80: Twins at Yankees

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jul 02, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Here is the lineup:

YANKEES
Damon DH
Cabrera CF
Jeter SS
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Matsui LF
Abreu RF
Phillips 1B
Cano 2B
Clemens RHP (1-3, 5.32)

Pregame chatter: Yanks have lost two straight and 9 of 11. … Jeter is 2 of his last 12 with seven strikeouts and was moved into the three hole. Tells you a lot about how the offense is doing. … Clemens has allowed 14 hits and 10 runs over 10.1 innings in his last two starts. … A-Rod said he had “zero reaction” to his wife’s shirt. All I know is whoever makes the “Bleep You” shirt probably sold them out today.

UPDATE, 6:17 p.m.: A few intersesting comments before the game today. Joe Torre said he completely agreed with the idea of not trading the top pitching prospects, even if it ultimately meant him losing his job. “My future is unimportant,” he said.

I asked Torre about Shelley Duncan and he said his name came up but they see him as only a DH at the major league level. Edwar Ramirez was called up instead of Chris Britton because with his changeup, he’s different than the rest of what they already have.

For those of you interested in the Cynthia Rodriguez shirt debacle, Brian Cashman said he “did speak to” C-Rod about her attire but what he said would remain private. Obviously he didn’t ask where he could get his wife one. Just ao you know, she was not wearing a FCUK brand shirt.

Alex’s comment? “I have no reaction.” he said.

Cashman reiterated that he could make a trade right now if he was willing to part with Phil Hughes or one of the other young pitching prospects. But he is not. If they do anything, it would probably be a lesser move for a first baseman.

Also, Cashman didn’t have a list with him but the Yankees signed a bunch of international free agents today including well-regarded Dominican outfielder Kelvin DeLeon.

UPDATE, 8:48 p.m.: Not much to say about this game. However, I have been asked to pass this along. The cast of that Ultimate Roadtrip show on YES will be selling hats to benefit the Jorge Posada Foundation tomorrow at Billy’s across the street from the Stadium. So if you’re in a charitable mood, stop in and say hello before or after the game. Fellow blogger and former cast member, the babealicious Tiffany Berryman, will be on hand as well.

UPDATE, 8:54 p.m.: I had no idea Abreu could hit a ball that far. Holy smoke.

UPDATE, 9:17 p.m.: Well, this is not good, Alex has come out of the game with an apparent hamstring injury. Don’t count on an update before the game is over. The Yankees are very slow with such things and never tell the truth anyway.

UPDATE, 9:38 p.m.: Rodriguez has a left hamstring strain (or tear) and will be evaluated again tomorrow. No word on how long he will be out.

I like the lineup, Melky’s been really hot lately… Maybe they’ll be able to start something

  2. Jerkface July 2nd, 2007 at 4:18 pm

FCUK YOU shirt garners normal reaction from A-rod? Color me shocked!

  3. Matthew July 2nd, 2007 at 4:20 pm

True, I was hoping for a Damon-Melky-Jeter top 3 lineup today, keep Abreu buried because I cannot watch him play. Jeter had some better swings yesterday as well.

  4. Todd Drew July 2nd, 2007 at 4:21 pm

I think we have found a number 3 hitter.

  5. Arod July 2nd, 2007 at 4:22 pm

Captain is a slap hitter, not enough power for a 3 hitter, bad choice.

  6. Marc July 2nd, 2007 at 4:23 pm

Just remember the Yanks won 9 in a row when Arod’s ‘girlfriend’ was in the Post last time. Maybe his wife also brings them good luck and then we Yanke fans can say @$%^ you to the trolls here, ESPN, Red Sox fans, & all critics!

  7. Scis July 2nd, 2007 at 4:26 pm

does anyone know Damon’s BA/OBP for the first inning? It just seems like he rarely gets on leading off the game

  8. Jerkface July 2nd, 2007 at 4:28 pm

Todd: Now we just need a #1

  9. SlickBomb July 2nd, 2007 at 4:31 pm

French Connection in the United Kingdom sells those shirts all the time. I don’t see what the big problem is.

  10. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 4:31 pm

I was hoping they’d try this lineup too. Hey, at this point, you’ve got to try it at least. Maybe it doesn’t work, maybe it does. But who else would anyone put in the #3 spot at this point? I don’t think there IS anyone else!

  11. chazz h July 2nd, 2007 at 4:34 pm

This is the best lineup (until Giambi gets back or the body snatchers return Abreu to his body)

  12. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 4:35 pm

I thought CRod’s shirt was weak.

This is a MUCH better “shirt”:http://tinyurl.com/3aag6t

  13. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 4:38 pm

    Scis –

Damon in the 1st inning this year:

    .294 BA
    .368 OBP

    That’s in 56 games; 15 hits in 51 1st inning at bats.

  14. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 4:38 pm

that is, aesthetically weak: the fonts were really, really poor, and the color scheme was blah.

    I’m not kiddin’

  15. We Miss Paulie July 2nd, 2007 at 4:39 pm

Did the shirt say FCUK or ****?

If the uproar was about FCUK, then everyone in NY is getting hot over nothing. Its a designer brand, that’s popular everywhere.

But if its **** then I agree, not very tasteful.

  16. Rattachewy July 2nd, 2007 at 4:40 pm

hopefully Clemens gets rock and lasts only 2 innings so we can see Edwar Ramirez.

  17. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 4:41 pm

    Oh, Oh!!

Peter, did anyone ask Jeter or Torre about the shirt?

Remember how Torre didn’t objected to ARod’s “Toronto ‘mine’ trick.” And Jetes refused to comment, at all.

  18. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 4:44 pm

    Scis –

Just for a comparison, last year he was 39 for 133 for the season, .293 BA and .361 OBP.

    In 2003, .246, .301
    In 2004, .279, .363
    In 2005, .281, .336

He’s fairly consistent leading off the game, it looks like.

  19. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 4:44 pm

    We Miss Paulie-

“everyone in NY is getting hot over nothing.”

really, what’z going on, Paulie? are they jumping up/down about it on “talk” radio?

  20. kasey July 2nd, 2007 at 4:45 pm

yesterday’s lineup put up 5 runs against a pretty good pitcher. i know torre’s gotta keep shaking things up until something works but a little day-to-day consistency probably wouldn’t kill these guys.

  21. saucy July 2nd, 2007 at 4:47 pm

    good point kasey

  22. Global Warming July 2nd, 2007 at 4:47 pm

    Hallelujah!!!

Edwar Ramirez is finally called up. Maybe Cashman is awake afterall.

Next up, Chris “GREAT” Britton and Shelly Duncan.

  23. Steve July 2nd, 2007 at 4:48 pm

Jeter is not a slap hitter. Never has been. Ichiro is a slap hitter. Eckstein is a slap hitter. Jeter drives to ball to right. He doesn’t hit home runs, but that doesn’t mean he’s a slap hitter.

    Kthx.

  24. Jerkface July 2nd, 2007 at 4:50 pm

    Is A-rod a slap runner?

  25. Steve July 2nd, 2007 at 4:52 pm

    From time to time, yes.

  26. Global Warming July 2nd, 2007 at 4:53 pm

Jeter is not a slap hitter, he is a singles hitter.

Not a good fit for #3 over the long haul but might as well try it now since nothing is working.

  27. Scis July 2nd, 2007 at 4:56 pm

Doreen, nice pull on the stats. thanks,

  28. Gayle July 2nd, 2007 at 4:56 pm

Bobby Mercer should be returning this week forsure for the weekend series and we are undefeated with him in the booth I believe. At this p[oint I will take any kind of cosmic energy.

  29. Drive 4-5 July 2nd, 2007 at 4:59 pm

Any predictions for which game in the Twins series that Andy Pettitte comes out of the bullpen? My bet is Wednesday.

  30. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 5:02 pm

I think Peter needs to look into this fcuk **** thing, I’ll take all the credit if it was actually fcuk. :) cause I pointed out that, that was a possiblity in the other blog entry. :P

Pete should go up to arod and ask was it a French Connection shirt? LOL

  31. Kurtis Jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 5:02 pm

here comes a SEVEN GAME HOME WINNING STREAK….mark it down…I predicted it and IT WILL HAPPEN !!!

  32. Harrison July 2nd, 2007 at 5:04 pm

my prediction is Ed ramirez will single handedly save the Yankees.

  33. YanksSox July 2nd, 2007 at 5:06 pm

Everyone mark down this day so we can tell Kurtis how smart he was in 7 days

  34. Drive 4-5 July 2nd, 2007 at 5:07 pm

Love your enthusiasm Kurtis Jensen and hope your right!

Problem is Messrs Santana, Colon and Lackey may have something to say about it.

  35. We Miss Paulie July 2nd, 2007 at 5:08 pm

    Dr. Acula…

“really, what’z going on, Paulie? are they jumping up/down about it on “talkâ€? radio?”

    Are you kiddin’ me?

  36. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:08 pm

    Jennifer-

What did CRod know, and when did she know it!!

Actually someone should ask Bush and Rudh about it, they’re always droning on about morality. HA!

  37. Everyone Hates Damon July 2nd, 2007 at 5:10 pm

Can someone tell me what’s up with all this delirium over Edwar Ramirez?

  38. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:12 pm

    We Miss Paulie-

my bad. I’m outta town. I thought the subject was funny, but not enough to gin up all day hysterics.

  39. Jonathan C. July 2nd, 2007 at 5:13 pm

    Everyone Hates Damon,

    He’s good. Our bullpen isn’t.

  40. We Miss Paulie July 2nd, 2007 at 5:14 pm

That’s cool, I thought I missed something. Yeah, thanks to the Post, you’d think it was the only thing going on.

  41. murphydog July 2nd, 2007 at 5:16 pm

The shirt Mrs. Rod wore is just another odd thing to put in the A-Rod file. (Maybe we should call him Odd Rod).

Of all the ways to let somebody (the other fans?) know you don’t like them or have a beef with them, wearing a shirt that says “F*** You” with your kid on your lap just seems low class. And it’s all the more odd because as far as I can tell, A-Rod and his wife are not “low class.” It was a nasty, aggressive thing to do and is was inappropriate to subject kids and anyone offended by such language to it.

(I would have added that it does not seem “maternal” to be wearing a motto like that on her shirt with her kid on her lap, but then I would have to listen to the folks who believe that mothers should be cursing and swearing and behaving badly in front of the kids because dopey, beered-up men do it. So, I’ll skip that point).

If the shirt had said “F*** You Oakland,” it would still not be have been appropriate, but at least it would have been a rebuke to the enemy team, not to the folks that pay a good portion of here husband’s outrageous salary.

They seem strange, that Rod and his wife. But hey, if it works for them, who am I to criticize.

  42. We Miss Paulie July 2nd, 2007 at 5:18 pm

Maybe Arod wants her to act more like a “stripper”…

  43. Drive 4-5 July 2nd, 2007 at 5:19 pm

    Everyone Hates Damon-

Edwar Ramirez is Manny’s first cousin twice removed. He hits homers like Manny, doubles like Aramis and steals bases like Hanley…. and he’s a pitcher!!

  44. Stuart July 2nd, 2007 at 5:19 pm

Cano has earned his place in batting 9th..

Abreu really should be batting 8th but I will not quible with the lineup..

with all there issues this is still a good lineup…

Yea Ramirez ptiching would be neat, it would make watching this team a little less painful. We can see if Ramirez has chance of succeeding or not you never know.

why don’t they call up one more position player and move a pitcher?????

  45. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:22 pm

    murphydog-

maybe Cynthia is dyslexic or a Howard Stern fan.

I’ve heard the worst things in yankee stadium, some of them from the mouths of kids. this wasn’t so bad. Not as bad as a Grand Theft Auto video game, that 99.9% of those weekend parents buy for their kids. Certainly, not as bad as Fransy tirad on Friday – “mommy, what did da pitcher scream, before he threw his glove into the dugout?”

  46. Global Warming July 2nd, 2007 at 5:24 pm

Ramirez is a skinny 26 year old absolutely dominating the minors. 40+ IP 80+ K’s 15 BB. His ERA is a very respectable 0.62.

He used to be an Angel farmhand and we picked up him up. Payed off as hes been lights out all year.

He and Chris “GREAT” Britton will save our pen.

  47. Global Warming July 2nd, 2007 at 5:26 pm

Oh and batters are hitting .128 off him. As for his pitches goes, he’s got a 90MPH fastball and a PLUS PLUS PLUS change-up.

It will be fun to see how it goes. Hopefully Torre gives a shot sometime soon. Maybe today :)

  48. HORACE CLARK July 2nd, 2007 at 5:27 pm

LIKE THE KID IN FRONT OF ME WHO WAS PROBABLY EIGHT ALL DECKED OUT IN YANKEE GEAR AND SHOUTED OUT IN THE SEVENTH …YANKEES SUCK…IT GOT A GOOD LAUGH

  49. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:29 pm

    We Miss Paulie-

Working girls get a bad rep. for example, some are single mothers paying rent brooklyn, some are students moonlighting while attending Columbia.

  50. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Horace, can you suit up tonite?

yeah, remember when Roger got ejected from playoff game for screaming a profanity laced tirad in 1990.

And then there’s this recent, famous “pitcure”:http://tinyurl.com/ywvo8a

  51. saucy July 2nd, 2007 at 5:34 pm

i know i’m probably getting ahead of myself, but how awesome would it be if Edwar was our bridge to Mariano for the Angel series this weekend….

  52. Stuart July 2nd, 2007 at 5:35 pm

    Saucy in our dreams.

the problem is Torre will never use him. they should have given him the 9th inning yesterday to get acclimated to the big show….

  53. Everyone Hates Damon July 2nd, 2007 at 5:36 pm

Global Warming, are you Edwar’s agent?

  54. Kurtis Jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 5:37 pm

hey YankSox ( what does that mean anyHoo ? ) DO write it down !!!….44-41 headed into the All-Star Break and “only” 7 games or better down in the loss column is where we will be. THE SHIP IS HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION RIGHT NOW…..GO YANKEES…..TO INFINITY and BEYOND !!!!

  55. MattNC July 2nd, 2007 at 5:37 pm

Jeter hits a HR about every 37 ABs for his career, or about 17 per season. He already has over 600 XBH for his career, and will probably end up with over 900, so he’s not quite a “slap hitter”, like Ichiro or Luis Castillo.

  56. Joe from Long Island July 2nd, 2007 at 5:38 pm

I can’t remember the player and coach, but one young player, struggling to start hitting, was progressively moved down the batting order until he got to the 9-spot (must have been AL team). The coach came up to him, put his arm around the player, and said in a warm and consoling manner, “You know what comes after the 9th spot – THE BENCH!”

Maybe that’s what they’re trying to get across with Robby.

  57. Mr. Faded Glory July 2nd, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Why isn’t the team’s leading hitter (Posada) considered for 3 hole duty?

  58. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 5:56 pm

I don’t know – Torre’s quote in the paper about Ramirez was pretty positive and he seemed (as far as you can tell in print) genuinely excited about the guy. May be will use him. Maybe this time will be different. Of course, it will all depend upon the game situation. I’m hoping for a not close Yankees lead, Roger going about 6, maybe 7. Maybe Ramirez can come in for the 7th.

Actually I do think there’s a good chance of it. Proctor, Myers, Villone and Vizcaino were all used yesterday.

  59. 2007 Yankees July 2nd, 2007 at 5:56 pm

Robbie can’t hit on day games .188 vs .288 at night. They should start Cairo at second on those days until Cano can turn it around.

  60. DC Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 5:58 pm

What’s the big deal with Jeter hitting 3rd? You put your best hitter 3rd, a guy who is going to get a lot of base knocks. Jeter’s good for 200 hits year in and year out. I wish he would take a few more pitches. Posada would clog up the base paths in front of A-Rod.

Joe? Wasn’t that Bernie early in his career? Maybe Stump Merrill or Showalter.

  61. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 6:00 pm

Nice call Dr. Acula… by the way, loved the screen play about you…

  62. Enoch July 2nd, 2007 at 6:01 pm

    Faded Glory is right.

Melky and Cano should never sniff the top 4.

  63. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 6:07 pm

    Gracias, Colorado

  64. Joe from Long Island July 2nd, 2007 at 6:11 pm

DC Yank @5:58 – You might be right. And we know how Bernie turned out.

Come to think of it, Bernie’s outward demeanor is not unlike Robby’s.

  65. ... July 2nd, 2007 at 6:24 pm

Jeter used to hit 3rd and 4th all the time…what’s the big deal?

He could absolutely hit 25-30 Homers a year if he wanted to…but he wouldnt be hitting .330 either. that’s why the Yankees have 4 other guys who can hit 30+ homers.

  66. Bob NJ July 2nd, 2007 at 6:27 pm

Melky and his .320 OBP shouldn’t be in the 2 hole

  67. 2007 Yankees July 2nd, 2007 at 6:31 pm

Melky should be in the #2 hole during day games
He only hits .209 at night vs .402 in day games.

Funny, he is the opposite of Cano.

  68. 2007 Yankees July 2nd, 2007 at 6:32 pm

Sorry he hits .345 in day games

  69. Bob NJ July 2nd, 2007 at 6:33 pm

    Sample size…

  70. Arod July 2nd, 2007 at 6:35 pm

I apologize you guys are right, it was wrong of me to call Jeter a slap hitter, hes more of a spray hitter, or a mistake hitter spraying balls to right field for singles.

  71. 2007 Yankees July 2nd, 2007 at 6:37 pm

    2007
    84 ABs in day .345
    148 ABs at night .209

    Career
    Day 169 AB .237
    Night 310 AB .300

  72. Bob NJ July 2nd, 2007 at 6:38 pm

Jeter has doubles power as well, his 21 this year put him 21st in MLB…not bad for a “spray” hitter

  73. Bob NJ July 2nd, 2007 at 6:42 pm

Those splits are basically meaningless…his career is less than 500 AB, not even a full season. Most likely random at this point. Correlation does not imply causation.

  74. 2007 Yankees July 2nd, 2007 at 6:48 pm

Maybe so but he certainly isn’t the hitter he was last year. Even though the sample size is limited, it does have some meaning.
    But I get your drift…..

  75. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 6:56 pm

LOL Jennifer at your comment to Peter

  76. Joe L July 2nd, 2007 at 6:57 pm

Ian Kinsler injured in Texas — Anyone think Cashman called up Texas to gauge the interest in Cano?

If he didn’t or hasn’t at this point, he deserves to be canned.

Here’s my last ditch save 2007 offer to Texas, Cano, Farnsworth, Clippard and cash for Texeira, Brad Wilkerson and Gagne. Texas gets their young one time all star 2b who is dollar controllable, their closer/set up man in Farnsworth and a back of the rotation young starter in Clippard.

We get our 1b for the next 2 seasons and a rental players in Wilkerson and Gagne who are both free agents after this season.

Wilkerson can put some heat on Abreu and give Torre a viable option in RF if Abreu doesn’t hit. He also can slide over to CF (although I wouldn’t want him there). He’s not what he was when he was in Montreal, but he can be a solid veteran, something we don’t have many of right now. He also has a good Yankee stadium swing.

Gagne, obviously, would pitch the 8th shoring up our pen.

If we had to add another young prospect to that deal to get it through, I would do it. I would sacrifice one young promising pitching prospect to make this deal, but only one, and it can’t be Hughes or Chamberlin.

The Red Sox are begging someone to come take the division from them. Maybe it’s just they are waiting for someone to wake them up, but in Boston they are even starting to write articles about how Big Papi isn’t coming up with the clutch theatrics of yesteryear.

The odds are completely against the Yankees to be able to pull off the kind of resurgence they need to get to the post season, but if they don’t try, then this season will go down as flaccid folks.

Every year we went out and tried to get someone to put us over the top and it usually served to ignite the team.

Getting Cano, Farnsworth and even Abreu out of the locker room will help. Hearing Jorge say what he said, well it’s not hard to see who he is pointing his fingers at.

I hope Cashman is going to do something by the break. Firing Torre is not the answer to trying to take one last shot this season.

Weeding out the crap in the locker room is the answer. And for all you Cano fans, if there is a GM dumb enough to take this weak willed head case and give us back a good to great player (like Texeira or Dontrelle), then he needs to go now. He is exactly the kind of player that doesn’t thrive in NY when the going gets tough.

  77. Mike NYY July 2nd, 2007 at 7:01 pm

Cano, Farnsworth, Clippard and cash for Texeira, Brad Wilkerson and Gagne.

Fantastic deal for us. The only problem is the Rangers GM isn’t on the Yankees payroll. That trade is totally unrealistic. if you can get Texiera alone for Clippard, Farnsworthless, and Cano you have to at the very very least consider making that move but no way we also get Gagner and Wilkerson.

  78. Mike NYY July 2nd, 2007 at 7:09 pm

    Nice play by A-Rod there

  79. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 7:19 pm

    On Cynthia’s shirt

I betcha Cashman is a wild man. the quite ones are usually the ones with the most to hide (ie scooter libby).

  80. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:20 pm

    LOl Dr.

  81. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:20 pm

how about ThAT for a start to the 7 game winning streak ???

    SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!!

  82. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:21 pm

From what I’ve seen Rodriguez wife is pretty hot. She probably looked good in it and that’s what really caused the uproar. lol j/k

  83. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 7:22 pm

Next post picture… Mrs. A-Rod strolling into a hotel with Cashman…. NICE!

  84. Mike NYY July 2nd, 2007 at 7:24 pm

    Lol, Mrs. A-Rod :D

  85. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:26 pm

I’d like to see a slow mo of Mauer and Damon talking to each other like the commercial. That was pretty sweet.

  86. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:27 pm

    LOl Yank

  87. mel July 2nd, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Way to be patient guys, 15 pitches for 6 batters.

  88. Jesse July 2nd, 2007 at 7:29 pm

Good for Torre regarding his comments about the pitching prospects. This type of unselfish statement reaffirms that he really is a gentlemen, who always should remain part of the Yankee organization even when he retires/is let go, even in the capacity of a Berra or Jackson. The man has too much baseball knowledge and recognizes the value of these young pitchers. We all know what a difference it is to develop someone with the ability of a Santana, Peavy, or Verlander, and unlike most teams, the Yankees have the financial ability to keep their young players. And for those who say, ‘Pitcher X is a stud, so we can trade the others,’ you’ve got to think how many of these guys fail or get injured. In my mind, it’s hands down necessary to keep these guys and boost our odds of getting that ace in his prime, even at the expense of this season.

  89. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:34 pm

nothing like Mat-Screwy to fudge up a rally. Let’s just swing at the first pitch RIGHT AFTER Posada works a walk…NICE JOB GROUND-ZILLA !!!

  90. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:38 pm

ABREU Led off an inning with a single….ALERT the MEDIA !!!

  91. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:40 pm

NICE GIDP for yet another POWERHOUSE Yankees First Baseman….Yes CASHMAN…you are SO RIGHT in NOT doing anything for that position….NOT !!!

  92. mel July 2nd, 2007 at 7:41 pm

OMG. Cano did not strike from a 3-0 count.

  93. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:42 pm

hold up….is the Pitcher’s first name REALLY….BOOF ??? His parents HAD to really have hit the pipe HARD !

  94. Cheng July 2nd, 2007 at 7:42 pm

    I don’t understand Andy Philip,
how can a man with good stats in the minor can’t hit in the major.

  95. Mike NYY July 2nd, 2007 at 7:44 pm

hold up….is the Pitcher’s first name REALLY….BOOF ??? His parents HAD to really have hit the pipe HARD !

He legally changed it himself It wasn’t his original name

  96. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 7:44 pm

Did Scott get into any trouble for burning his uniform?

  97. YanksFanLV July 2nd, 2007 at 7:44 pm

Why do the Yankees not steal more bases? They have adequate speed with Jeter, Arod, Abreu, Damon, and Cabrera. They should take a a page out of the Mets handbook.

  98. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:44 pm

Phillip had a homer didn’t he a couple nights ago? I thought he was doing okay.

  99. gayle July 2nd, 2007 at 7:45 pm

Jennifer I heard this AM from Kim Jones (she was subbing in the morning) that he DID NOT burn his uniform but his glove, cleets etc. only thing that were his personally not Yankee issued. Not that it makes it any better.

  100. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 7:46 pm

I can’t down the guy since I know what he’s been going through personally with his family. Gotta be hard to play and think about them all the time

  101. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 7:46 pm

Paul O’niell is going to be at old timers day!! :)

  102. gayle July 2nd, 2007 at 7:46 pm

whooo hoo paulie back for old timers day so glad I am going

  103. Harrison July 2nd, 2007 at 7:48 pm

Clemens is the biggest flop since ???

  104. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 7:49 pm

Oh okay thanks Gayle. Your right it really doesn’t make a difference. I was very upset when I first heard about it. Now not so much, he was getting out his agression. There seem to be very few players really ticked off about what is going on. He is one of them, he gets angry even when he gets an out (if he knows he got lucky). Jorge is the other one, watching him on the bench you could see the fire and anger in his eyes. There are times when if they could shoot fire they would.

  105. mel July 2nd, 2007 at 7:50 pm

If you guys are going to get on career minor leaguers for GIDPs, can you guess who holds the record for GIDPs? No cheating.

  106. Karen July 2nd, 2007 at 7:54 pm

“Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 5:33 pm And then there’s this recent, famous pitcure”

Dr. Acula, the picture of the blond little boy with the middle finger was photoshopped about 3 years ago. The kid was a soccer fan, either Danish or Swedish, I forget which.

  107. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Karen I always wondered where that picture came from. It is everyone on the internet!! That kid is famous!!

  110. Rocco July 2nd, 2007 at 8:16 pm

I think Kay has a crush on Torii Hunter.

  111. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Thanks Dr. Could hardly tell what it says unless you are looking really hard. It looks like a tank. I’ve seen worse things on shirts at school. LOl. Oh well it’s been addressed. I don’t think she meant any harm. At least Mrs. Arod looks good.

  112. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 8:21 pm

here is Melky batting where Jeter normally is….2 on and 2 outs….and the answer is ??????????

  113. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 8:24 pm

    BUZZER SOUND HERE……..DANG !!!

  114. mel July 2nd, 2007 at 8:25 pm

I guess Paulie didn’t like Kay’s “Ford” joke. You guys get the feeling that Hunter is interviewing here? Stein usually goes for the guys who hurt the Yankees.

  115. Deep to Left July 2nd, 2007 at 8:25 pm

We’re seeing it again… same old offense… men left on base all over the place.

  116. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 8:26 pm

    Is Morneau still out?

  117. SP July 2nd, 2007 at 8:27 pm

Clemmons looking like his old self

  120. mel July 2nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

O.k. That explains why Kay goes ga-ga for homeruns by opponents.

  121. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 8:32 pm

Thanks I didn’t pay much attention to the Twins lineup

  122. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 8:42 pm

I’ll be at the game Saturday, I don’t even know if I want to go! I might just watch the Old Timers game, leave and go back down the shore!!

  123. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 8:44 pm

Ok watching the game sparingly.. moving furniture and something occurred to me, it doesn’t matter what they do with this lineup, they still can’t hit.

Seriously, this is a simple game, “You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you HIT the ball”. What part do they not get?

Quick, Yankee lineup, what color is the object you THINK you are swinging at…..

  124. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 8:45 pm

Jennifer, watch the Old Timers out hit the modern Yanks… Classic.

  125. Bob July 2nd, 2007 at 8:45 pm

Anyone who complains that we are too old and laden with veterans on one hand and then calls for Cano to be traded on the other is a complete idiot. The lack of patience with Cano is exactly the reason we have all these old, broken down veterans…because no one is willing to give the kids a chance. Let him be, he’ll be just fine.

And as for that absurd trade proposal, you have got to be kidding me. This isn’t a video game, real trades need to be somewhat equitable.

  126. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 8:48 pm

Ok back to work… but here is a thought, listening to Rick Sutcliffe it occurs to me that he and Suzyn Waldman were seperated at birth…. They may not look like twins but in a freak medical experiment, they both possess the ability to say the most ridiculous, uninteresting, pointless fluff. Really makes my head twitch like I am going through withdrawls… Awwwh my gawd!!!!!!

Isn’t Sutcliffe better when he is sluring like Harry Cary…

  127. kidjock July 2nd, 2007 at 8:50 pm

I’ve seen this movie before, I would hate for the ending to be the same. The Yankees can’t hit for anything

  128. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 8:50 pm

Bob is right. Cano is right on pace… 4 pitches first at bat, 1 pitch second at bat… 5/2 = 2.5 pitches per at bat. You can really get a good sense of what a guy is throwing seeing that many pitches..

  129. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 8:51 pm

    Rocco-

_I think Kay has a crush on Torii Hunter._

Well, he is a hottie. Phew!! look — >> “here”:http://tinyurl.com/386wxp

  130. Bob July 2nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

I wasn’t saying Cano’s lack of patience is the problem…although it is a problem…I was saying the fans’/management’s lack of patience with young players is the problem. He’s having a sophomore slump, he’ll snap out of it and be just fine for many years to come.

In years passed they’d have moved Cano for some overpaid veteran by now…I hope they show some patience this year.

  131. joe July 2nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

this is bad we need help cashman needs to make a move call somone up do something

  132. Deep to Left July 2nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Bobby’s twin brother suited up tonight.

  133. kidjock July 2nd, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Please check Abreu’s locker for any “B-12″ shots. Glad to have you back Bobby. Jeez that was a triple decker!

  134. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 8:57 pm

Wow! Am I dreaming? a homer by Abreu?

  135. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 8:58 pm

    Cano got a hit?

  136. Deep to Left July 2nd, 2007 at 9:00 pm

Now things get interesting. Yanks have a lead and we’re entering Joe Torre’s twilight zone… the 7th and 8th innings. Roger is in control – 73 pitches in 6 innings – will be interesting to see how Mr. Torre plays this one out.

  137. Wait Til Next Year July 2nd, 2007 at 9:01 pm

    Edwar Ramirez?

  138. TKinDC July 2nd, 2007 at 9:01 pm

Cano, Cabrerra and Abreu are all having a good night – I just wish guys were hitting with RISP

  139. Ranting Guy July 2nd, 2007 at 9:05 pm

Man, NOBODY in the division is taking advantage of the annual mid-season Sox meltdown this year, so the Sox are still miles ahead. Oh well, a Sox division title by default is still a Sox division title.

Someone pointed out (sorry … I forgot who) that if the Yanks were at least .500 on this last road trip (and for the Oakland series) then they’d be within 6 games now and we’d actually have a race. Pretty astute.

I expect one or two heads roll later this month. Whether it’s Cashman, Torre or any of players I’m not sure. No doubt it’s Cashman, whose neck is furthest out in the boss’s point of view but I think the boss is giving him until October. If it wasn’t for him we’d be worse off than we are now. If he goes, there’s a short list of his ‘untouchables’ that we really need to keep for the long haul. Posada, Jeter, Matsui (future DH) Rivera, Pettitte, Wang, Hughes, Chamberlain (P) Kennedy (P) Tabata. The last 3 we need to see how they really develop, at least give them a shot at the big show. Then here’s Ramirez. We need to see how big leaguers handle him, but minor leaguers can’t touch him. It’d be stupid to give him away if he’s an unproven hit or miss at the big league level … especially if we’re coming up on Rivera’s final year or two.

Karstens, DeSalvo, Rasner, Igawa … maybe they’ll become legit 4-5 starters but we couldn’t expect a top shelf guy in return for them. But put a couple of them in a package maybe we could get something going.

I don’t see A-Rod as ‘untouchable’ and I don’t think Cashman does either. The contract Boras will try to re-negotiate for next year could outweigh his net worth. If the Yanks are toast by the trading deadline, I bet A-Rod gets traded unless we have a long-term contract update pre-agreed on.

If only the crystal ball could tell us which A-Rod we’d have for the next 4-7 years. If the A-Rod of this year and ’05 keeps showing up, he’s definitely worth keeping up to a certain cost. If the A-Rod we had last year keeps showing up we don’t need him.

Depending on cost, if his contract value or a trade could net the equivalent of a top shelf pitcher (Santana, Haren, Zambrano) and an above average 1B & 3B (as long as nobody’s over 30 years old) then it may be worth sending A-Rod anywhere except Boston. The last thing we need is the MVP A-Rod playing SS in the same lineup as Papi, Manny, Lowell and a healthy Youkilis & Drew. Especially if we get nothing in return for him. One step backwards (even a big one) can be good if you can get two or three steps forward for it.

Anyways if Cashman loses his job I’d worry if any of those untouchable guys suddenly became expendable before we knew for sure they had no (or no longer had an) effective future here. One (or two if we’re smart AND lucky) top shelf pitcher could be gotten other ways.

To whoever’s GM next year … KEEP THEM UNTOUCHABLE! PLEASE MAKE IT A RULE NOT TO ACQUIRE ANY PLAYER OVER 30 unless they’re that rare guy 30-35 (note: RARE) who’s a virtual lock for top 3-5 in the Cy Young or MVP for 3 more years! Let Jeter, Wang, Matsui, Pettitte, Rivera and Posada naturally grow into the role of ‘veterans who bring leadership & experience to the clubhouse’ rather than hoping to import that quality by hiring yet another former MVP or Cy Young (or wannabe) who’s way too far past his prime to help with his actual playing skills. This includes Clemens. Houston got lucky with his performance these last few years but a guy like that comes along once in a generation. More than likely you’ll get someone like Al Leiter (c’mon admit he was useless by the time we had him) or the Big Johnson of ’05. We’ll be better off spending 20M per for 4 years plus an option on a younger top shelf arm, rather than another 28M (pro-rated) on Clemens for one more year in ‘08.

And if you DO fire Torre, hire Girardi … look what he did in Florida last year with a team payroll that was probably less than A-Rod’s contract alone.

Now that’s just my opinion … I could be wrong.

    OK I feel better.

  140. Bob July 2nd, 2007 at 9:06 pm

    Go on Melky

  141. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:09 pm

  147. Colorado Yank July 2nd, 2007 at 9:13 pm

Holy walking Jesus… The Yanks are scoring runs…

Seriously, they are still not taking good swings. Maybe if they can get some good swings in, with the break of the All Star game, it will translate into something good afterwards.

  148. Ranting Guy July 2nd, 2007 at 9:14 pm

    Deep to Left –
Sorry I guess I really got going on that one … :)

  149. Bob July 2nd, 2007 at 9:14 pm

I’m watching Gamecast, what was the injury delay?

  150. Deep to Left July 2nd, 2007 at 9:16 pm

A-Rod got tripped up at first base legging out a grounder. He stayed in the game, but after limping over to 2nd on Posada’s walk, they’ve yanked him out of the game.

  151. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:16 pm

Arod Clipped feet with Mornou, looked at him then. But when he got to second, Bowa thought he was hurt, they went back out and took him out.

  152. YanksFanLV July 2nd, 2007 at 9:16 pm

Holy crap Abreu’s shot went far, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a ball hit that far up in the Stadium before.

  153. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 9:17 pm

I’m rubbing my eyes in disbelief and trying to savor the moment of the score and the fact we are actually leading and the fact we are leading in the 6th inning and th bases are loaded.

  154. Ranting Guy July 2nd, 2007 at 9:17 pm

Injury delay was because I tore a couple finger tendons typing my last rant.

  158. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:18 pm

Not good at all, how they even left him in after I don’t get! Bowa was the one to say take him out!!

  161. Bob July 2nd, 2007 at 9:23 pm

No, wrist injuries take a long, long time to fully heal. Around 18 months.

  164. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 9:27 pm

I just got an IM from Machiavelli (AKA Tupac), Mach says, “on the bright side, if AROD is hurt, it would keep him from opting out. Long term vs short term.”

I replied, “Damn, Mach, you’re dark!”

  167. tommy July 2nd, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Cairo admittedly sucks, but there is no way you can replace A-Rod, unless you have Honus Wagner or Mike Schmidt sitting on the bench. He’s a once in a lifetime player.

  168. BX 12 Fordham Road July 2nd, 2007 at 9:34 pm

The Yanks have a $9m per year advantage over every other team with the “Tom Hicks” subsidy…..they should be able to beat any possible offer and sign him to an extension.

That is if the guy wants to stay….also he has to sure he does not play himself as only a couple of teams can cruise past the $25m per year marks without blinking….

  169. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    me too tj

    updats would be appreciated

  177. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 9:44 pm

    what does mild mean?

  178. Jones July 2nd, 2007 at 9:45 pm

“Last year’s team earned the right to get a reinforcement situation,” Cashman said. “This year’s team still hasn’t earned that right. Last year’s team showed it was a championship caliber situation. You earn the right to battle for the berth in the field in October.”

No, Cashman. You’ve got it wrong. You earn the right to keep your job be assembling a decent team. It is your job to see that they make the postseason.

  179. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 9:45 pm

oh gawd, they just called the bullpen.

let the old man throw a complete game, damn it.

  180. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Gee that doesn’t sound good right now. But didn’t Jeter have one Saturday and still played yesterday? We don’t need one of our best hitters to be injured but maybe the other guys will step up like Cano and Abreu.

  181. kidjock July 2nd, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Brilliant performance by Rocket. Should be a shutout, he is worth every penny they are paying him. He’s looking like an ace today.

  182. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:48 pm

We needed this game from Roger!! Pitched a great game, against some great hitters!

This is why we brought Roger back!

  183. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 9:48 pm

Standing ovation for baseball’s 3rd greatest pitcher!!

    2-hitter, 4Ks, 96 pitches.

The Twins have a winning record and took 2 of 3 from Mets in NYC, two weeks ago.

What is Steve Phillips gonna carp about tonite???

  184. pat m July 2nd, 2007 at 9:49 pm

  188. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Pat it isn’t worth it, let Mo pitch the 9th. He hasn’t gotten much work. Roger is at 90 pitches, he gave us 8 innings just what we needed!

  189. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 9:54 pm

  192. dmm July 2nd, 2007 at 9:55 pm

  194. Go NYR July 2nd, 2007 at 9:56 pm

I dont understand why Clemens cant finish it off. Who cares if he is 97 years old. He has had a very easy 90 pitch game tonight. If Mariano doesnt have to pitch, whyh put him in there. Roger is rolling along. Joe cant give the ENTIRE bullpen the night off no matter what

  195. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Xe, are they really that stupid on SOSH? Yeah Alex tried to clip him with his leg. God they are dumb! I guess they missed when Alex went back to first and asked Justin if he was okay. LOL

Roger had a good night. Now my ole favorite is closing it down. Come on. Let’s close this thing out on a good note tonight. Do it for the team. Do it for the fans. Do it for Mrs. Arod’s tank.

  198. mark July 2nd, 2007 at 9:59 pm

I’d be surprised if Torre even knew Edwar was in the bullpen.

  199. Go NYR July 2nd, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Maybe Morneau should have had his foot on the edge of thebag like they teach you in little league, the collision would not have happen

  200. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 pm

I want to buy C-rods shirt!! Where did she get it. LOL I’ll just walk around my office wearing it. :)

  201. Ranting Guy July 2nd, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Hopefully, this can become the cloudy first half’s silver lining:

Rivera’s lack of use (lack of opportunity) so far could translate to a fresh arm in Septober instead of a tired one.

Only worth it if ANSKY make it the post season.

Sorry for the quickie … still catching my breath.

  202. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:01 pm

THHHHUUUUU YANKEES WIN THHHHHHHUUUUUU YANKEES WIN!!

    :)

  203. ansky July 2nd, 2007 at 10:01 pm

i have no real problem…as ilustrated by that game ending DP turned with flair

    Finally Frank and not Nancy

  204. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 10:02 pm

i think gameday is a half inning behind for me

i do wish rocket could have finished it off

  205. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:03 pm

FYI- Glavine is getting killed by the Rockies. In the top of the 4th. 6-0 Rockies, 7 hits, 3 walks.

  206. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm

i have never liked crod; maybe thats just cause i want arod all for myself

  207. Ranting Guy July 2nd, 2007 at 10:05 pm

Bobby … ya better not sit back and enjoy it like ya said in the post-game … ya gotta bust a nut every damn night until the end of October before you can sit back and enjoy it like that.

  208. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Other than Alex getting hurt. This was really an enjoyable game. I didn’t feel the usual stress or spill my drink on the keyboard. Rocket man pitched a good game. Some players showed up. These are the type of games Yankees play. Rocket looked like his old self. Andy did a good job tonight at 1b

  209. gayle July 2nd, 2007 at 10:08 pm

I had to laugh at this one they just showed on YES rocket wioth his wife in front of the dugout after the game and she was wearing a swetshirt with a peace sign on the back. Struck me as very funny

  210. gayle July 2nd, 2007 at 10:09 pm

sorry about the spelling above typing with no lights lol

  211. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 10:09 pm

    lol Jennifer. Lol Andrea

  212. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 10:10 pm

    jennifer-

I’m gettin Cynthia’s shirt tatted on my back!! Right under my Paris slept here Tatt.

  213. pat m July 2nd, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Lets hope the rest of the rotation picks up where Clemens left off…..Just a good turn through the rotation can get things back on track…..

  214. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Yeah TJ, me too!! I wasn’t stressed watching the game. While they weren’t getting the big hit, you had a feeling it would come! And than Bobby had that monster shot, I think that shot shocked Boof!

  215. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 10:12 pm

_YES Rocket with his wife in front of the dugout after the game and she was wearing a swetshirt with a peace sign on the back._

Debbie Clemons will you marry me!!!

  216. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 10:12 pm

hahaha Dr. I’m going to find out where Jennifer works so I can see her in Mrs. Crod’s tank

  217. Stuart July 2nd, 2007 at 10:13 pm

    WOW Clemens [itched great..

Pray Arod is not hurt, if he is we are screwed.. regardless then need to call up 1 more infielder for Tuesdays game just in case.

What are the odds they send Ramirez down? I do not think they will do it, they shouldn’t

  218. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Is it just me of every time the NY Post comes up with a Rodriguez breaking news story the team wins. It’s almost as if they do it to get back at the Post. lol

  219. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Stuart, maybe Farnsworthless will be traded and we won’t have to send anyone down. :P Seriously how many times does he have to be spoke to about not showing others up! Why doesn’t he exhibit some of that fire on the field? Like going high and tight on a hitter instead of throwing a 95 mph meatball down the middle?

  220. T.J. July 2nd, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Now that Alex is hurt I hope the other guys step up in hitting. I’m not too worried about Jeter, and Posada. Hopefully Damon, Abreu and Mat can keep it coming. Too bad Roger won’t be pitching tomorrow. I could use another night like this one.

  221. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Great game. I don’t think anyone should sweat Ramirez not coming in — Roger was just too good and you gotta go to Mo!

Abreu and Cano looked much better. Matsui still struggling. Hoping ARod’s strain is still mild tomorrow. Looks like he won’t be going to SanFran. Just so long as he doesn’t end up on the DL. I don’t think this team this year can cover it if he’s gone for too long. Even though he’s been cold the last couple of days, there’s no one else who’s the same hr threat in this lineup right now.

Who’s pitching tomorrow? Igawa? Mussina? I can’t remember.

  222. #9 July 2nd, 2007 at 10:19 pm

“Oh by the way, screw Steve Phillips, he still has a hard on from the 2000 Series….”

    Cialis?

  223. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:20 pm

I couldn’t remember either Doreen. It is Wang, he got his crappy game out of the way, so hopefully he will do well tomorrow!

I say let Alex rest a game, even if he says he is fine. Put Miggy at 3rd and keep Andy at first.

  224. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 10:20 pm

i am going to get crods shirt and smack her around with it

debbie clemens freaks me out. i cant put my finger on it but tehres something strange about her

  225. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:22 pm

When I watched the Arod collision, maybe Alex shouldn’t have jumped up right away. He rolled which was probably good, but jumping up couldn’t have helped.

  226. Doreen July 2nd, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Thanks, Jennifer. I guess Wang last pitched Thursday, which was such a crazy day for me and that was the suspended game right?

  227. Dr. Acula July 2nd, 2007 at 10:24 pm

    Andrea-

    Debbie is a “doll”:http://tinyurl.com/3akhcc

  228. Wait Til Next Year July 2nd, 2007 at 10:24 pm

TJ, that’s kind of like “Mrs. Lincoln, other than that how did you enjoy the play?”

  229. #9 July 2nd, 2007 at 10:25 pm

“Please check Abreu’s locker for any “B-12â€? shots. Glad to have you back Bobby. Jeez that was a triple decker!”

    It was an “Abreuian” shot…

  230. jennifer July 2nd, 2007 at 10:25 pm

Yep that was the suspended game.

  231. Andrea July 2nd, 2007 at 10:28 pm

she is a doll but there is still something strange about her

was she really wearing a shirt with a peace sign on the back

  232. harley July 2nd, 2007 at 10:28 pm

A great game, but Doreen I’d make this observation. Using Mo with a four run lead — but keeping him in the bullpen when the game is tied (and your team is absolutelyk putrid in one-run games thus far this year) is one of the reasons Joe will keep this club from contention this year.

  233. Stuart July 2nd, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Jennifer from your lips to Cashmans ears are trading Farnsworthles but I am not too confident of it>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Same lineup tommorrow if Arod can play, I am hoping for the best on the injury..

  234. kasey July 2nd, 2007 at 10:35 pm

if this team has to play any significant stretch of games without their most productive (by a mile) offensive player, in a year when the offense has been inconsistent at best, you can absolutely forget any miniscule hope that they’d make the playoffs. there’s no way this team is winning on a consistent basis without alex in the lineup. none. flame away at me, but i don’t think you’d find too many people who’ll disagree. can you imagine where they’d be without alex SO FAR? enough said.

  235. Go NYR July 2nd, 2007 at 10:38 pm

A-Rods wife was looking kinda old in those photos. And after pulling a stunt like this, they dont seem like they are gonna last too much longer when you put it together with that chick he was with. Im sure Alex is not too happy about that. Maybe it was a little payback for his night of fun and games in Toronto

  236. HORACE CLARK July 2nd, 2007 at 10:44 pm

    SHE IS GONNA WANT HALF

I have tickets to Old Timers Day on Saturday. When I looked today at the matchup, I saw Clemens and Lackey and started thinking “ugh – Lackey – automatic loss”.

But after tonight’s performance by Mr. Clemens, I’m feeling like it could be a good game after all.

BTW, Kind of ironic that Roger will be on the hill on “Old Timers” day. I wonder how many old timers will actually be younger than Roger. I know Paulie is suiting up, so there will be at least one!

I think Paulie playing on Saturday is good karma for this team. I was at the LAST game that he played. I was in the upper deck out in right field for his farewell in Game 5 against the D-Backs. Wow. What a night that was…

  239. kurtis jensen July 2nd, 2007 at 11:46 pm

1 game of the 7 game win streak down…SIX TO GO !!!

  240. Dr. Acula July 3rd, 2007 at 12:40 am

    Go NYR-

photography is tricky. Lighting and angles and change so much. Here, just look at this recent photo of “Bob Sheppard”:http://tinyurl.com/38cur2

  241. DCJim July 3rd, 2007 at 8:29 am

In an earlier post I defended Cynthia saying that she would never own a t-shirt with an expletive on it and if she were to own one she would never wear it in public. Shame on me for being so naive and, far more importantly, shame on Cynthia. She deserves the criticism she is receiving.

(And shame on Alex if he knew of her intentions to wear the t-shirt to the baseball game.)

  242. saucy July 3rd, 2007 at 9:16 am

can’t blame alex for saying “zero reactionâ€?. i’m sure he threw a fit at home though for embarassing him at work!

  243. Karen July 3rd, 2007 at 6:12 pm

Jennifer, if you really want a tank top like C-Rod’s, go to the Chrome Hearts boutique at 159 64th St. in Manhattan. That’s where she got it. And yes, it really does have the F-word in all its glory printed on the back, not the acronym for French Connection UK.
