Mrs. A-Rod: I love New York!
In case you missed it, Cynthia Rodriguez had a message on her shirt yesterday when she went to the game. “Bleep You” it said. This made the front of the Post.
I was talking about this with a friend of mine just now. She said that C-Rod was wearing a designer shirt from a Manhattan boutique. It’s not like she had that made at the mall. Still, it’s not exactly what you figure the average mom wears to the park.
Then again, the average mom isn’t married to A-Rod.
If Alex leaves the Yankees, he will be able to cite stuff like this and it will play well nationally. I wanted to stay in New York, but those tabloids bothered my family.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens after the season. The Yankees may have no choice but to offer him a huge extension. But when is the last time a Scott Boras client didn’t go on the market when given a chance?
I’ll be headed down to the Stadium soon. Check back later for the lineups and reaction on the big fashion story. I hear Mrs. Joe Torre will be wearing a shirt that says, “No question” on the back.
Maybe Jessica Biel will show up with a t-shirt that says, “Bottom line, you want to win.” Nah, we couldn’t be that lucky.

If he tries to cite this as an example it is a no win position be it here in New York or nationally. You dont wear a shirt to the stadium that says that no matter who you are, actually especially because of who you are. There are kids around. What was she thinking its not like she was in a night club. Maybe she likes getting attention and seeing herself on the front page of the POst rather than her husband.
if I were here I would issue an apology ASAP
You know what, Pete? I don’t think it plays well nationally, because it was A-Rod with a stripper and Cynthia (a mom!) with a profanity on her shirt. The midwest, especially does not like that kind of stuff (tho, I admit, A-Rod would more likely go coastal). It could be spun that they invited the tabloids in, which in the case of the Mrs. is certainly the case. You don’t wear that shirt if you don’t want/expect attention. (But, I guess it’s okay to say F-U if you pay designer prices and it’s written in old english script.)
Pete, are you happy now?
And how old are you?
Another example of how the NY Post is nothing but tabloid jounalism. First they report about arod and the nightclub and now this. And whats even funny is they put it on the back page!
Whatever, stuff like this bothers me because it cheapens the profession, but I guess all I can do is just never buy a NY Post Paper again.
aweb:
Happy? I’d like to cover a team that is a contender and that people want read about, so hopefully Alex says around. He seems to be a guy people like to read about.
She should have been required to remove the shirt. Stadium rules.
Based on the story it is most interesting to me how the stadium people handled it. Obviously there were people complaining didnt anyone go to someone on the team in a position of authority (maybe Jason Zillo in the press box who seems to have a good relationship with Arod) and say we have an issue here we know it is an awkward situation being as it is a players wife but you mgiht want to talk to her away from everyone and get her to change the shirt. if she didnt haveone you could give her one there are certainly plenty of shirts available.
it could have been done very discretely
Much to do about nothing.
wo how much money is he gunna get this off season he gunna opt out with this monster season hes having he can probaly gunna break the record for the biggest contract in sports history which is probaly set by him if u r the yanks u r gunna have to resign him if he leave we r gunna have a problom you could fill infor him theres probaly one player that could fill in for him which is Miguel Cabrera but we will have to give up lots of prospects and possible robbie cano witch if that happen they will put robbie iat ss probaly
How the heck does this become the cover story of the NY Post??? OMG how moronic. Like you said she got the shirt in a store didn’t go down to the mall and have it made. I think she was probaly telling the media to f off for exactly stuff like this. Any shred of respect for the Post I had is gone, I mean they are at a point where they are just stalking that family. Just leave them alone!!!

It’s not really nothing. It’s NOT front page news, but it’s about class vs. crass. It’s not good from a p.r. standpoint at all. As a mom myself, I question her judgment. She is entitled to those feelings; but in public, she shouldn’t be stooping that low. It’s always better, and a better reflection on yourself, if you take the high road, regardless how you feel inside.
Is it front page news with everything else going on in the world absolutely not, but welcome to the world of NY tabloid journalism. However if you were sitting behind her with your child and they saw that and asked what it meant or how come she has bad words on her shirt. how would you feel? Of course all kids eventually learn those words but you want to do it at your own timetable most often not have to deal with it at a baseball game.
You only wear those kinds of shirts to GET attention not to avoid it. So she has fualt in this and how it is covered. You cannot tell me that by wearing that shirt she didnt expect someone to pick up on it.
“No choice” ??? If only the Yankees had it so bad. We’re only talking about the best player in the game here. As faw as “when was the last time…” regarding a Boras client, I have to ask “When was the last time a Boras client decided to leave money on the table ?
There are still $9M per year from Texas on the table that disappears once he opts out. Meaning that IF a team were willing to fork over $25M per year for, say 6 years, the Yankees could effectively offer the same money while paying only $123M total, instead of $150M. Or, if the Yankees are ok with paying that same $150M total, they could offer A-Rod $177M total, with $27M coming from Texas.
I also read that the opt-out clause can be nullified if the team increases his 2009-10 salary by $5M. At which point, the Yankees would still only be paying him $21M per year in 2009 and 2010. Sounds like a no-brainer to me since that’s still less than the contract Texas signed in 2001.
I think it is virtually a lock that Alex stays in NY.
YankeesLuv That was my point!! You have all this crap going on around the world, and C-rod wearing a f-you shirt is front page news!! Never mind that someone was killed on the Tapan Zee Bridge last night, or the car bomb at the airport. C-rod telling someone to F-off is front page news!! Unbelievable.
exactly Jen, I could understand it might get a mention somewhere in the gossip pages but the front cover? dumb.
The only reason it’s “newsworthy” is because the Yanks are terrible right now and the NY Post is a rag. Take a look at the picture on the Post at http://www.riveraveblues.com/. It’s hardly anything that anyone could notice or read unless one is 6-10′ from Ms. Rodriguez.
Gayle: as far as “if” you were sitting behind her “with your child”, that is merely hypothetical and so what. Kids are exposed to worse things on TV and the Internet on a daily basis. Back to baseball.
Wouldn’t it have been funny if it was the french connection shirts.
theirs says fcuk. look at it quickly and it appears to be the other word. But it isn’t. But we can’t tell because it is blurred.
The point really is, if you’re wearing that particular shirt, and especially if you are “C-Rod” at Yankee Stadium, you are looking for negative attention. So you can’t use this as an example of being stalked by the tabloids.
Who says it isn’t Jen? That is the style of French Connection, the font and everything.
Joey it is not hypothetical if you actually read the article it happened and people complained. yes kids are exposed to worse all the time but do y ou bring your child to a baseball game to be exposed to it??
if you read what I wrote I said it was NOT newsworthy and didnt deserve the coverage on the front page. All I am saying is that this is the world of NY tabloid journalism and you know what we are feeding right into it/As I said a long time ago people post more when there are AROD posts, how many people do you think are clicking on the NY POst website today or buying the paper with all the talk about this. It is a business and anything AROD is BIG business.
Jennifer, ohmygosh, that WOULD be funny. Then wouldn’t we all be the ones with egg on their face???
I think the crushing home run that Matt Holliday hit for the Colorado Rockies against Andy Pettite had a devstating effect on Andy. Pettite’s ERA before that game 2.93. Pettite’s ERA after yesterday’s game 3.77. Matt Holliday’s home run against Andy Pettitte must be very devastating sort of like the Albert Pujols effect on Brad lidge, devastating.
NY is the only city where the writers are far from homers and go out of there way to rip players and the team.
can you see the boston herald doing this to the sox?
No friggin way… Here each writer and reporter think they are something special and love to rip players.
Arod can really screw the Yanks if he leaves and my bet is he will do it.. Then the yanks will wind up with 0 for him.. Think things are bad now, you ain’t seen anything yet. Also Sherman who I think is a punk is right if Arod is going to leave he should allow the Yanks to trade him this yr. I know this will never happen because arod and boras will have the charade that he is coming back blah blah blah.
I know the NY post is garbage but really why would Cynthia wear that shirt, it is tasteless……
Sorry Doreen, but that is a load of crap. Looking for negative attention???
In all their years of marriage, she picks now — a month after the Toronto fiasco to draw attention to her and her new media frenzy marriage? She is not an idiot. And neither is AROD. Based on everything this year, they want to be as far away from the media spotlight as possible.
Essex –
So she wasn’t looking for attention? I’m sorry. If you don’t want attention, you don’t do things that draw attention. Wearing tasteless clothing to the stadium where your husband plays ball is going to draw attention. And the attention is negative, because how is a shirt that even hints at “F-U” not negative? And if she wants to be out of the media spotlight, and wears that shirt anyway, then she is just dumb.
this is a news story how? I hate the NY Post
That is your opinion — the dumb thing.
And French Connection attire are all like that, cheeky and racy e.g – SEXY AS FrenchConnectionUK, is that negative? Assuming it’s a FCUK tank.
It is one’s personal taste, I personally find Juicy Couture distasteful, but I would not call those who wear it dumb attention seeking dingbats.
This is a sports blog, with the Yankees 4 games below five hundred, about 7 days from the All Star break and this is what is being reported? Cynthia does not play for the Yankees.
At first I thought this was a non-story. But then I thought that if I were going anywhere with my wife, would I say something if she was wearing an “F You” shirt? The answer is yes. I’d probably say to her “Um, you sure you want to crack out the F You shirt today, hon?”
I wouldn’t make her take it off (she’s in charge of dressing herself), but it would cross my mind.
The fact that Mrs. Arod didn’t let that consideration overrule her wearing that shirt to her husband’s office (basically) is definitely strange.
I don’t know many 34 year old women running around in F You shirts. Maybe it’ll become a trend now though.
However, I don’t see it as some major aggressive thing. Fashion in LA and NYC is completely whacked. Loopy designers can convince any of their well heeled customers that everyone who is anyone is running around in these F You shirts this season. With all the dough they have, I’m not shocked Mrs. Arod hit up the F You shirt boutique and was sold on it’s charms (or lack thereof). That’s what the fashion industry and people who want to appear in the know are all slaves to.
Did she make a bad choice? Yeah, but she didn’t hurt anyone. I can assure the Father of the 10 year old sitting behind Mrs. Arod, that your son has heard F You and much worse than that at school and on TV, especially when you’re watching the Sopranos and he’s listening from the other room.
I don’t think she needs to be burned at the stake here though. It’s a t-shirt. She thinks it’s cool. She’s wrong, but I doubt she wore that shirt hoping to shock people. She probably wore it hoping people would think she’s all about the clothes/fashion.
She is entitled to her personal taste; all I’m saying is, if she’s trying to stay OUT of the media, then it’s a dumb thing to wear to a baseball game. And I did not call her a dingbat. And I didn’t outright call her dumb — I said if she thought wearing that particular shirt would not bring attention, then she was dumb, but naive would have been a better choice of word.
Joe:
>
If he wore that shirt and though no one would care, she more media-unsavvy than her husband. And that’s hard to do!
Whether the shirt is okay or not is hardly even relevant. If you’re Mrs. A-Rod (after going through what’s she’s gone through this season) you HAVE to know people are going to make something of it.
Sorry but I fail to see the big deal in wearing the shirt. The print was small and on the corner and could hardly understand it unless you were reading very intense. I guess with the way the Yankees playing and in all fairness that Arod is playing well. The Post felt they had to use a story once again to take focus off the team and to focus it on Arod or his family.
I’ve seen both men and women wearing worst than words on a shirt that you could hardly read to the games.
A player burning his equipment with photos would have been more news worthy than a tabloid story.
I get the Post hates ARod but I guess since his off the field actions are in the shadows and they could not embarrass the guy nor his wife, they had to find another way to attack his family.
It really should have not been earth shattering news and if they wanted to run something. Leave it to Page Six story.
The Post has been sinking to an all time low for the past years. I don’t think many people take them seriously any longer. News papers in other cities are constantly poking fun at the way The Post attacks it’s own team. One of the writers must be a Sox fan.
I DEMAND that she spend some time with Joe Torre, so that he can teach her how to be “classy”.
Joe L –
There are probably a lot of 34-year-old women wearing similar shirts; but I would make a million dollar bet that, as you said, NONE of them would wear them to their husband’s place of business. And I would also bet that most of those women are not moms. Not that being a mom 100% defines who you are, and it doesn’t automatically confer upon you a sense of good judgment (see Brittany Spears). Then again, there seems to be a different set of rules in place for those who have power and/or money and celebrity.
I doubt he knew what she was wearing that day. It was on the back of her shirt. I would rather slice my finger than tell my girlfriend or sister not to wear a certain shirt out.
How many of you guys tell your girl what to wear when she goes out?
These ladies buy for fashion and trend instead of sending a message. He’s got a hot wife who also has brains. These type shirts are on the runways and in fashion magazines. It’s the new trend. I doubt if she thought it would cause a rise out of the world. If she did she would have had it in larger print and would have been more specific.
It is time to play hardball with A-Rod.
That starts with acquiring Aramis Ramirez from the Cubs to take over 3B and tell A-Rod he has three choices:
1. Drop the opt-out clause to remain a Yankee and at 3B and cleanup (Aramis Ramirez becomes the 1B and #6 hitter behind Posada) or be the DH for the remainder of 2007, opt out, and walk. Tell him they will do all they can to get Ichiro for CF and leadoff next year -they’ll already have $13M cleared from buying out then letting go of Abreu ($15M he’s making this year – his $2M buyout for next). A-Rod is a true all about money loser if he passes on this monster batting order for 2008:
Ichiro/Jeter/Giambi/A-Rod/Matsui/Ramirez/Posada/Cano/Cabrera
Damon and $20M of his remaining $26M traded so he costs whoever takes him only $6M for 2 years ($3M/yr.)
2. Refuse to drop the opt-out clause, be the DH for the remainder of 2007, and opt out cuz the Yanks aren’t extending his contract (don’t have to with Ramirez at 3B and Ichiro their prime off-season target.)
Could you imagine Ichiro playing side by side with Matsui?
3. Accept a trade or be the DH for the remainder of 2007 and opt out cuz the Yanks aren’t extending his contract (don’t have to with Ramirez at 3B and Ichiro their prime off-season target).
Let’s see A-Rod risk a dropoff in production and a loss of years and millions of dollars off his next contract with a move to DH. I mean if he bats .265, who but the dumbest of dumb teams would give him the 6 years $180M his neverending
greedy agent would ask for? BTW aren’t the Angels the best team in the A.L. without A-Rod? Yes. Why would they want to pay $30M on one guy when they could use that money to get as many as 5-6 good players esp. pitchers? Who was the big-money man/ superstar on their 2002 World Series championship squad?
If A-Rod chooses 2. or 3., no problem: the Yanks have Ramirez at 3B, could get Andruw Jones for CF and Ichiro for RF, and start Damon at 1B for this 2008 Yankees batting order:
Ichiro/Jeter/Giambi/Jones/Matsui/Ramirez/Posada/Damon
Cano protected by Ichiro
Ichiro in CF and at leadoff, Jones and Ramirez posting at least 30 HR and 100 RBI each, a healthy Giambi, Cano even being just .285 BA/ .350 OBP good, and a much better bench would more than offset the loss of A-Rod.
The Yanks have a right to make this trade. For one, they’re
protecting themselves from the loss of A-Rod after this year and getting his most comparable offensive 3B outside of the unattainable Miguel Cabrera. Second, they could still get Ichiro and Jones with Ramirez or A-Rod at 3B, so why leave the Yankees, A-Rod? Remain a Yankee, the 3B cleanup hitter, and THE MAN. You will be a multi-billionaire at some point in your life extension or not. You really need an extra $3M on your 2008, 2009, and 2010 salaries (he’s making $27M/yr. now) and another $90M for 2011-14? How much is enough and who rescued you from Texas? The Yanks could’ve easily kept Soriano who just came off his second World Series appearance (yeah he did badly in ’03 but would’ve been the ’01 hero and a Yankee for life had Mo not blown Game 7).
Oh b.t.w. how does an infield corner or Ramirez at 1B and Miguel Cabrera at 3B a few years from now sound? ‘Sounds nice to me. What if Florida doesn’t/ can’t pay Cabrera what he will surely in arbitration after this year?
Her husband makes $25 mil a year, yet she’s still plain old white trash.
BTW why the hell would the Cubs trade Aramis ramirez? And for whom?
The Cubs have a chance at there division and Ramirez is there 2nd best offensive player.
these are the idiotic pie in the sky trades that will never happen..
‘Say the Yanks get Ramirez to play 1B, A-Rod stays at 3B and cleanup. Giambi is off the books and Mark Texiera is a free agent after next year. Texiera is signed for 1B for this lineup:
Ichiro/Jeter/Matsui/A-Rod/Texiera/Ramirez/Posada/Cano/Cabrera
1B DH
A-Rod wants to pass up on that?
How ’bout this A-Rod? Matsui off the books after ’09, you move to RF (Cabrera to LF), Miguel Cabrera, a free agent after 2009, takes over at 3B.
Think about that instead of getting top dollar. There’s more to life than being the highest paid athlete in pro-sports history.
Yeah, play hardball with the best player on the team when you have ZERO leverage with him. Great idea.
Different screen name, same nonsensical ideas.
The Cubs are just going to trade Ramirez, who has a partial no trade clause, to the Yankees.
God, where do you come up with this stuff?
It isn’t smart business move if A-Rod opts out. He’ll lose about $21 million over the next three years, because no one will pay him $27 million a year on a contract. I don’t think the Giants or Angels will make that kind of a deal. If he is given an extension on his current deal, A-Rod will make more than he would if he hits the market. I don’t think he’ll stay though. The tabloids are putting his family through the ringer and I don’t think he likes that very much. Anyway, I got us killin’ the Twins and winning the series. Also, I wouldn’t be shocked if A-Rod agrees to a trade before the deadline.
Oh yeah, the Cubs are 40-40, 6.5 games behind Milwaukee, they’re REALLY good man. Please. And mind your keyboard tongue with calling me an idiot with your “idiotic pie in the sky trade”.
1. Derek Lee is the Cubs’ best player.
2. The Cubs will drop off cuz they suck (not as badly as a the Yankees, but they suck nonetheless). They’re teasing their fans like they’ve done for the past 100 years.
3. Carlos Zambrano will be a goner after this year after the way he’s acted (Barrett, running his mouth about wanting out, I’ve even heard he’d refuse to re-sign with who he’s traded to so that kills the Cubs getting anything for him).
4. The Yankees have the farm system talent to get Ramirez,
so nevermind your “for whom?” talk. Kennedy, Chamberlain,
Horne, Marquez, Clippard, Karstens, Rasner, Tabata, Cano, Cabrera. Throw in 3B Mitch Hilligoss as a you never know guy down the road.
5. The Yankees need to replace A-Rod with a comparable HR and RBI man at 3B next year.
It’s not an “idiotic pie in the sky” trade.
BTW who’s the Yankees monster bat and 3B next year if A-Rod leaves? What makes you think the Yanks are throwing $30M or more a year for 6 years he and Boras will probably want at him when their bullpen, bench, and OF outside of Matsui is in shambles?
Its a french connection shirt, my friend owns the same one. Media is an idiot. End of story.
Fcuk NY POST
The Post remains its fine sense of proportion. “XXX” shirt? Like a XXX movie? Does that mean all the stores that sell “New York F****** City” shirts are being shut down for obscenity?
First off SJ 44 don’t get personal with me and last I checked you don’t post by your real name, so who are you to say “different screen name” hypocrite? Your posts are so tiresome. Anyone you disagree with is this and that.
Actually, the Yanks have all the leverage if they acquire Ramirez. In case you don’t know, Ramirez is a 3B. If he arrives, no way is he moving to DH, he’s either the 1B if A-Rod stays or the 3B if A-Rod leaves. Oh I betcha Ramirez agrees to go to the Yanks to escape that pathetic Cubs team.
You say no, whatever. You know he can waive his partial no-trade clause right? Obvuiously not. He will also post minimum 30 HR and 100 RBI yearly for the Yankees considering he does that in the better pitching league. It’s just that simple.
Let’s say the Yanks got Ramirez for 3B and moved A-Rod to DH. Boras would bug out and ask for a trade a.s.a.p. Now who has the leverage? The Yanks who can take the best offer. If anything, they could get back what they gave up for Ramirez. A-Rod opts out and wants 6 years $180M? The Yanks could and should say what was on the back of A-Rod’s wife’s t-shirt she wore to the Stadium yesterday. “We got Ramirez at 3B. Bye.”
B.t.w. who died and made your word on this blog law?
Replacing the 147 OPS+ guy with the 111 OPS+ guy is arguably the smartest move we could make. Get it done Ca$h
If Ramirez wanted to “escape” the Cubs, why did he sign a 5 year deal with them during the offseason?
Another non story from the Post. They really are nothing more than trash. How the hell is that a headline story?
Where do you come up with your stuff?
What’s wrong with playing hardball with A-Rod? He’s playing hardball with the Yankees: give me 6 years and $180M when I’m already making $27M/yr. through 2010 and if I’m worth my salt will make more than that for another 3-5 years, or I walk after this year?
Where’s the loyalty to a team who rescued him from Texas which the Yankees did? $252M isn’t enough? I could care less if “it’s his right” to opt out, being adversarial to the Yanks (which asking for a new contract when making $81M, more than ANYONE in the next three years, most definitely is) is playing hardball.
Hey Floyd Landis Hormones
Ramirez signed the extension because of the security: he’s guaranteed his contract no matter where he plays.
Why did A-Rod sign the contract he did with Texas only to beg to be traded then beg to be traded to the Yankees?
was ‘How About This A-Rod?’ ‘IWTYGM’ on Friday?
Saucy -
I thought so, too. Similar style and reactions.
Cynthia Rodriguez is a psychologist. Perhaps she herself needs professional attention. To wear a shirt like that to Yankee Stadium on a Sunday afternoon where families are, is simply crazy.
Here we go, our little friend is off his meds.
Arod is now going to be a DH because you said so? That’s pretty funny.
Arod isn’t DH’ing for anybody in the next 7-8. Certainly not the Yankees.
Play hardball with him? How exactly do you accomplish that feat?
He just says, “No”, opts out and leaves. What are you going to do, put a hit on him?
Can the insults and the cussing. IP addresses are easy to trace and unless you want face to face confrontation, I’d put a lid on it now.
You post the same nonsense over and over. First, it was strong arm Giambi. Then, it was strong arm Abreu. Today, its Arod.
Its all filled with pie in the sky trade ideas that, when somebody calls you on it, you begin writing obscenities.
We get it. You think running a baseball team is like the mafia where you can just strong arm people to do what you want them to do.
Only problem with this theory is NOBODY in the game does it.
If it was that easy, why isn’t anyone else taking on this groundbreaking endeavor?
Do yourself a favor now and stop embarrassing yourself. Or, we may have to call your mommy.
You’d think someone married to a classy she-male stripper-chasin’, ball-slappin’, ship-jumpin’, backstabbin’ prince of a guy such as Slappy would know enough to drape a tastefully bedazzled hoodie over that shirt before exiting the solid gold double wide and heading for hubbie’s “office”.
Ramirez hasn’t played one innning at first base in his career
I can say this every talented player Texas Rangers have had left to better teams and some have won rings. Rangers seem to always pick top quality and talented players. Management has been the problem and then you had a certain former owner who was more concerned with his other investment. Not talking about Bush this time.
There are still fans that haven’t forgiven the Rangers after losing Pudge. They lost a lot of fans after that. One being my grandmother who have been a Rangers fan since a teenager. However Pudge finally got the ring he so deserved. I also have an old timer uncle who hasn’t forgiven baseball since the walk out. He’s old and he hasn’t looked at baseball the same way. A lot of people I’ve come across there feel the same way. Lost the desire. I think Rangers have done all they could to win the fans back. However the disgust lies within them allowing talent to leave.
I can’t hardly blame Arod for leaving the Rangers. He wants a ring and he was having a great season but it was no surprise the Rangers were not keeping up with that bargain.
Management has not been stable. You feel bad for a talent like Michael Young but you know he’s their best. They have Sosa to keep the fans happy.
Hard to blame Alex for the money he got when the Rangers were doing everything they could to get him. He did stick to his part of the bargain but the team didn’t.
What players who have been fans of the Yankees don’t want to play for them. The guy lived in New York. Yankees are legends and gives you chills just knowing you played on the same team with the legend greats.
When the Post tailed A Rod in Toronto, they went over the line. It wasn’t fair to tail him until they had their story.
Mrs A Rod publicly wearing an offensive shirt in Yankee Stadium is newsworthy. Whatever flack she gets, she deserves. She asked for it, and got it. She knowingly embarrassed herself in public.
The Yankees are the last bastion of class in professional sports. Unfortunately, it’s a sign of the times that they are losing the war.
Drive 4-5,
Fair points and a very solid post.
I’m completely torn about ARod.
Obviously he is a one-of-a-kind player who will have a decent chance of putting MVP numbers for the next several years. You can’t let a player like that leave.
Plus we can’t replace him. It’s July and I still haven’t seen a plausible idea for an ARod replacement. I don’t mean someone who can completely replace ARod’s production and defense (no such person exists), but someone who can do a competent job. It’s hard to overestimate the damage that ARod’s departure would do to us.
On the other hand, can you imagine the backlash if the team bows down before ARod, calls him a True Yankee and gives him a mind-boggling extension, and he disappoints. And by disappoints, I mean plays slightly worse than he’s playing now, which is inevitable. The media treatment will be insufferable.
So it’s either prepare for ARod to leave, in which case we look desperate, or do anything it takes to keep him and prepare for his failure to meet some arbitrary impossible standard. I have to hope for the latter, but if the team doesn’t contend, it could be a no-win.
I could really give a rat’s you know what about a stripper or Mrs. Rodriguez shirt. The real issue is what’s going on with the team. A shirt or a stripper isn’t on the field with these guys. Real Yankee fans are more concerned with the team on the field. Our legend Yankee heroes didn’t have a squeaky clean image off the field. Back then people loved and respected what he did on the field not necessarily what he did off.
I’m more concerned with our prospects what the upper hands are doing to solve the mystery of our failing team. I know we have some great players and it’s getting painful to watch them play as if they are suffering or struggling on the field. Hard to watch a great team struggle against some of the teams you feel that are playing worse.
There is no question a different team from last season I know but with the money on pitching we have spent, we have to see something better than this.
I’m being optimistic that after the All-Star break there may be some wake up calls. At least I can still hope.
Detroit made anothe minor trade.. Trying to fix there pen with Milwaukee. Is it a good trade I have no friggin idea but I know one thing they are trying.
Maybe Cashman knows we are toast but he just does not want to say the obvious, but really trading fringe players or 2nd tier players trying to find some magic, why not???
You’re the one who posted on here with vitriol towards me and telling me I’m on my meds thus insulting me so pot calling the kettle black.
You’re not “calling out” anyone, just being the di ck you usually are.
Put a lid on it with your threats of tracing i.p.s and a face to face confrontation.
So was there a real profanity on the shirt or was it a French Connection shirt?
French Connection shirt
Looks like a tank.
It was not a French Connection shirt. it was a designer tank that you can get a boutique in both LA and new York, As much as you dont trust the post believe me they have the photo if the shirt was the French Connection one they were not going to put it on the front page saying it was something else.
If the shirt bothers you that much do us all a favor grow up. and if you can’t go watch something else, because all you are doing is playing right into the Post’s hands. This is what they want turn a non-story into eyeballs. How come no one says anything about “kids” when it comes to the alcohol being served or the foul mouth “enter team name here” su*k chants go up? Most of you wouldn’t know class if it was given away free. As one can plainly see the Post and the Daily News sports departments have an agenda who can out more A-Rod foibles because the common “fan” doesn’t know any better will continue to slurp it up like page six gulash. If any of you were brought up better your mother would have told your to respect one’s privacy. We as paying fans are entitled to one thing and one thing only. What goes on the field and between the lines. If A-Rod left and citied the media as a reason i wouldn’t blame him one bit, this is beyond intrusive. How come no else gets outed about thier mistresses? If you think A-Rod is the only one then you’re naive. It was often commented in the rags that several bible thumping Yankees who were “deeply devoted husbands” never were outed.
Yankee fans should protest and boycott both the Post and Lupica and the Daily News. go buy the Sun or Lohud or Newsday
Jeremy -
I’ve been trying to do a search. Went to the Fr. Conn. website and they showed nothing even remotely similar, but it could be last year’s t-shirt, you know?
A boutique… much like the French Connection
SJ44:
While I agree with the berating of the dumb guy and his trade proposals, don’t come out with lame scare tactics like “Im gonna trace your ip and then im gonna punch you in real life when i hack your address.” Thats weak sauce, man. You’re not going to hunt down a guy on the internet, don’t act like you are.
In the voice of Rev. Lovejoy’s wife: “But what about the children?”
And anyway, if we’re worried about the children being exposed to the f-word, we’d ban them from Yankee Stadium entirely.
I remember when The Post had Jeter and his girlfriend on vacation at a beach on the cover. I heard Jeter was not happy about it and who could blame him. I didn’t see why this should be major news. The guy goes on vacation with his girlfriend. It’s bad enough Page Six won’t leave him alone. My only guess it’s because it’s the gossip section. The rest of the paper doesn’t need to sound like The National Enquirer
If the t-shirt said “Fcuk You” it is permissible but ill advised to wear to a baseball game. If it had the real f-word (which I doubt) then she should not be allowed into the ballpark. I do not believe that Mrs. A-Rod would even think of wearing a t-shirt with the word f*ck on it and certainly not in public. The NY Post got this one wrong and should apologize to Cynthia.
pretty weak to remove my post peter
i never said anything that deserved to be removed.
saying C-Rod deserving ‘sloppy seconds’ was too racy for you?
Help me understand the limits in a post like this when the topic is a F-#$ You shirt!
Wow, Rasputin’s been quiet. Then again we haven’t had as many threads devoted to Arod lately, so that figures it would only show up now.
TJ: I agree that the Post is a useless tabloid, but don’t you think that a great deal of sports reporting isn’t that different from National Enquirer? ESPN is little more than the sports version of the E channel. The dating habits, partying/vaction locales, and consumption patterns of the contemporary athlete are all incredibly interesting and newsworthy to the sports pundits of today(but godforbid they mention politics or religion, that would be gauche and divisive!!). Just last night, as I waited for baseball highlights during Sportscenter, I was treated to a segment called “Who’s Now?,” which attempted to gauge an athlete’s importance on the basis of endorsement deals, invites to A-list parties, celebrity girlfriends, and, oh yeah, on-field performance. Let’s face it, your average sportsfan is no different than the average celebrity watcher; they both want their gossip and the media outlets give ‘em what they want. The Post is just a little more transparent than most.
Lenny Bruce used to say, in a literal sense, “eff you” is a compliment.
I don’t get the “no question” T-Shirt… what’s the frequency, Kenneth?
Lenny Bruce used to say, in a literal sense, blank-blank is a compliment.
I don’t get the “no question” T-Shirt. what’s the frequency, Kenneth?
“Actually, the Yanks have all the leverage if they acquire Ramirez. In case you don’t know, Ramirez is a 3B. If he arrives, no way is he moving to DH, he’s either the 1B if A-Rod stays or the 3B if A-Rod leaves. Oh I betcha Ramirez agrees to go to the Yanks to escape that pathetic Cubs team.”
do you know that if Ramirez is traded in the first year of a long term deal he can demand a trade after next season?
so who has that leverage again?
sometimes the Post can be so witty. But most of the time they miss the obvious pun.
The cover should of read *”Yankee Curse”*
Doh!
Cleveland Mike I will add this.
My older brother, worked for Turner Broadcasting, CNN. My sister was an intern working with Newsweek magazine. Even though my brother is a programmer it was no doubt a lot of things would come to their attention.
When Michael Jordan was playing with the Bulls in the hightlight of his career, she said they would get photos, leaks all sort of information from sources with he and his mistresses. The mistresses would send the stories themselves. They had photos. This was during his hey day period.
She even said SI would receive reports and many times the reporters were eye and are still eye witnesses of what these players do off the field. Only they would never print it. If anything some would pass it on to the National Enquirer where it’s easy to prove their stories are false.
A guy who respects the team or his job would be the last person to want to report a player cheating on his wife. That’s news for gossip tabloids. It’s a shame that people would rather feed on gossip than actual news that is a concern today. With the bombings going on in England and constant threats. Gossip about a celebrity is just gossip. I could care less what Paris Hilton does.
Hell I’m not perfect and I never let any celebrity have me to believe they are above God. My grandfather told me long ago that to worship a celebrity and not think of them as human beings is when you need to sit down and ask yourself some questions. I am a big Derek Jeter fan since he’s more of what I remember for my age. I believe he’s a decent guy but I will never place him as a man that will never make a mistake. He’s human.
Michael Irvin gave heartache to the Dallas Cowboy fans with his scandal. However, when he finally got back on the field and with Troy Aikman’s support and encouragement. Fans were on his side again. However it took someone like Troy Aikman who never bad mouthed Irvin and stood by his side during that time for the fans to look at what he accomplished. He certainly did more embarrassment to his fans and the team than Alex has. His wife never left his side despite all the drama. They are still together including now he’s voted in the HOF.
There was also a certain sports beat writer in Dallas who tried to follow up and write about rumors about one of their star players being seen at a gay club. He said police officers confirmed the player frequent the gay clubs often. When news came out he was going to print the story and he gave an excerpt, he was asked to dismiss the claims. He refused and he was literately run out of the state. No one wanted to read gossip from a Sports writer and to this day even in his new location he lost all respect from readers. He’s basically an outcast.
Typical dumbing down of America. Mrs. A-Rod you should know better.
Peter,
The Post is a rag! What else is new?
ARod may be a great player but they still lose.
They can field a good team without him. It honks me off when sportwriters use their forum to get players more money. Offensive players do not win titles. Good pitching, starting and bullpen plus some tough outs in the clutch win.
You’re all so pathetic. Seriously, you’re all worse than The Post. Let her wear what she wants and who asked you to pass judgment? Why is your opinion so holier than thou??
The shirt is from Chrome Hearts in Los Angeles, not the French Connection in the mall.
*Yanks Win!*
