Game 83: Twins at Yankees

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Jul 05, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Here is the lineup:

YANKEES
Damon CF
Cabrera LF
Jeter SS
Matsui DH
Posada C
Abreu RF
Cano 2B
Phillips 1B
Cairo 3B
Igawa LHP

Pregame chatter: Alex Rodriguez (left hamstring) is out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. He is 0 for his last 19 with six strikeouts, which is probably a factor as well. More on his status to come.

UPDATE, 12:11 p.m.: A-Rod has been sent out for an MRI so they can determine the severity of the injury. We’re hoping to get an update later.

Torre said that getting today and not playing until tomorrow night is almost like getting two days off and they hope A-Rod will be able to play tomorrow.

UPDATE, 1:49 p.m.: We talked to Brian Cashman before the game and he had a few medical update. Jason Giambi is out of his boot and will soon get an MRI to determine where he is. Phil Hughes is scheduled to throw BP today in Tampa and is closing in on a rehab game.

Here is some pre-game audio from Joe Torre:

and Cashman:

UPDATE, 4:12 p.m.: There hasn’t been much to say about this game. Leaving 10 guys on base (five in scoring position) isn’t any good. But the relief pitching has been stellar. Krazy Kyle Farnsworth even had a 1-2-3 inning and Sparky Proctor got through his inning. Mariano is warming now.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m.: Isn’t it funny how sports works? A-Rod missed his first game of the season and the guy who replaces him hitting cleanup belts a long two-run homer to give the Yankees the lead. Matsui is 5 of his last 12 with two homers, a double and three RBI. As a friend of mind likes to say, maybe he finally got the memo that the season has started.

Huge spot for Rivera here. When Krazy Kyle gives you a perfect inning, you have to make it stand up.

I looking forward to seeing Edwar Ramirez again maybe today. This is the ONLY highlight in the games now since there is no more playoff hope.

  2. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 10:38 am

    Any updates on Hughes???

Ugh, with people who post entire articles.

  5. j July 5th, 2007 at 10:55 am

no arod AND igawa starting, lets just raise the white flag now

  6. Satan aka Redsox July 5th, 2007 at 10:55 am

Joe’s Kerrigan Stinks. I would rather have Gary Tuck back who’s the currently Bullpen Coach for the Redsox..

Joe Kerrigan fails as Manager for the Redsox, He failed as pitching pitching for the Phillies.. He stinks. I put blame on him for demise on Yankees Bullpen who currently leads in AL in walks. Cashman loves Kerrigan, He was The one that hired him.

  7. Satan aka Redsox July 5th, 2007 at 10:56 am

    *pitching coach

  8. Mike S. July 5th, 2007 at 11:08 am

Scott…go to previous blog and see the post there.

    Monday for Tampa.

  9. Bill July 5th, 2007 at 11:11 am

What’s amazing are the poll results…

Basically, most of us think the season is over already.

  10. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 11:17 am

Thanks for the update Mike S.!!

  11. YankeesLuv July 5th, 2007 at 11:24 am

The Yankees should be able to win without Arod atleast for a game or two, if the others actually pull their weight for once. I hope Arod is alright if not then the season is truly 100% done. :(

Get Well Arod! We need you!

  12. chris in fairfield July 5th, 2007 at 11:27 am

igawa is a bum . who pitches with sungalsses ? i mean c’mon . i’m just riding out this season ’cause this team sucks . 210 mil for nothin’ . somebody has got to be held accoutable for this terrible , trainwreck of a season .

  13. hmmm July 5th, 2007 at 11:31 am

“Joe Kerrigan fails as Manager for the Redsox, He failed as pitching pitching for the Phillies.. He stinks. I put blame on him for demise on Yankees Bullpen who currently leads in AL in walks. Cashman loves Kerrigan, He was The one that hired him.”

really, you would blame the bullpen coach before the pitching coach? that seems kindof silly.

also, let’s not pretend the Yankees had a great bullpen BEFORE Kerrigan. they didn’t. Kerrigan has only been the bullpen coach since 2006. the bullpen was awful in 2005 and 2004.

the bullpen has likely gone to crap this year b/c of extreme overusage early in the year and unnecessary overuse later in the year due to poor bullpen management.

really, did we need to see Proctor in an 8-0 game?

  14. yankee21 July 5th, 2007 at 11:34 am

Really, the sun glasses!! what a joke, maybe if he brought 95+heat the betters would respect it, but the stuff he throws up there, I’m sure he’s getting a lot of snide remarks in the visiting clubhouse.

I’m a big supporter of Cashman, but on the Igawa front, he takes a serious hit.

  15. Curt Shellacking July 5th, 2007 at 11:39 am

Great Article on Joba and Ian

    http://www.nj.com/sports/ledge.....thispage=1

I don’t have a brother, and he’s about the closest thing to a brother that I got now” Awwww.

Great outing from Joba’s last start. He had 12 strikeouts. completely dominance.

  16. Satan aka Redsox July 5th, 2007 at 11:54 am

I think the stats for Bruney and Proctor last year was a fluke anyway..

Can you tell me Why Dbacks would released Bruney’s who throws mid-90 fastball?

He walks too many people that’s why. He’s overrated.

Proctor’s another guy Yankees bullpen considered to be overrated. He folds under pressure. He’s next Armando Benitez. He had 8+ era against Boston in his career.

  17. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 12:07 pm

My question is why wasn’t Alex sat down the next day? Why does Joe ask, do you want to sit? Okay no, do you want to DH. You’re the manager. You tell him YOU SIT today!! You’ll Dh tomorrow. No instead he plays him at third, and than says he’ll dh him the next day!! That makes no sense! Now we’ll lose him until next Thursday!??

  18. Marc July 5th, 2007 at 12:14 pm

Something to think about is that the Yanks scored 2 runs off only 4 hits yesterday from Small Ball. As usual they were missing the BIG hit. Now, the difference between yesterday’s game and the last month is that in all the previous games when they were hitting at all, they would all swing for the fences trying to catch up with one swing. However, yesterday, they knew they weren’t going to hit Santana and therefore played Small Ball.

Thus, I think Joe should plan every game that the offense is going to score 5 or more runs, but if they are struggling to hit, he should allow his runners to steal bases and actually have the “great overpriced hitters lay done a bunt and try to scratch a few runs.

  19. Sal's wife's "emotional friend" July 5th, 2007 at 12:21 pm

Igawa will pitch a gem today, book it.

  20. JRVJ July 5th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

According to ESPN, Scott Proctor is making $445,923, and Brian Bruney is making $395,545.

Arguably, NEITHER one of these men is overpaid, and for what the Yankees are paying for them, they are both UNDERrated.

If you want to talk about who is overpaid and overrated in the Yankee bullpen, talk about Farnsworth ($5.66MM), Vizcaino ($3MM) and Myers ($1.25M).

  21. Josh July 5th, 2007 at 12:24 pm

Alright, let’s get a win today. Enough of this losing already, it’s time we catch up with Cleveland and Detroit.

  22. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 12:27 pm

JRVJ yeah proctor and Bruney are fairly paid. Yea the 3 other dregs are overpaid, my point is they have zero consistent pitchers in the pen except for mo..

try Edwar, they have no other choice after 81 games……….

  23. Josh July 5th, 2007 at 12:31 pm

I think the problem with the bullpen is that everybody throws heat and then a slider. Ramirez has an excellent chance at being sucessful because he brings something different to the table to keep hitters off balance. But really Myers has to go unless he can figure out a way to get lefties out otherwise he is useless.

  24. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

I think I’m really impressed by Alex decision of possibly not playing in the All-star game to rest his hamstring. Shows me he’s more interested in trying to be healthy enough to help the Yankees win. It’s not all about him. Bomber because my buddies and I were really looking forward to seeing him there. I got some pals in the bay that will be reporting on the game and were looking forward to getting some bites and meeting the guy. Hoping the injury isn’t too bad.

Makes you wonder when he’s batting he’s worried about injuring himself worse and to have to sit out a couple months. This could be affecting his last two games where his hitting hasn’t been on par. It has to be on his mind. Wishing this guy a speedy recovery. We need him

  25. Keith July 5th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Why is Cashman not trying to strengthen this bench at all….why not have paid some money to sign Mark Loretta and Greg Zaun instead of having Cairo and Nieves and Bernie should be on the team as a 5th outfielder/DH especially since he was a good right handed hitter….Bernie should have been signed as soon as Giambi got hurt…is anyone holding Cashman accountable for this putrid bench and for not keeping Carlos Pena last year and signing Minky instead…..its games like yesterday that we could have won iffffffffffff we had a decent bench, that game was winnable…Cashman are you asleep in the city that never sleeps??? I think so…wake upa nd spend soem moeny on the bench instead of 46 million on Igawa which is a whole nother story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 12:35 pm

Now Alex gets a MRI, after he plays 2 games!! I don’t get it, he is your team and you don’t give him an mri right away!

  27. hmmm July 5th, 2007 at 12:36 pm

“Proctor’s another guy Yankees bullpen considered to be overrated. He folds under pressure. He’s next Armando Benitez. He had 8+ era against Boston in his career.”

this is stupid. it’s not b/c he “folds under pressure”. it’s b/c Boston is loaded with good hitters. Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz have torched Proctor.

they’ve also torched every other reliever in baseball.

he has a 1.50 ERA in the postseason. wouldn’t that be a place where he would “fold”?

  28. bob July 5th, 2007 at 12:39 pm

“gary: CopyCat Papelbon have new pitch -CutFastball.. He wants to be next Mariano or what?? As a Yankees Fan, There’s only One Mariano.”

You do realize rivera isn’t the first nor only pitcher to throw the cutter. question two, are you 12?

  29. Huuz July 5th, 2007 at 12:39 pm

if papelbonbon wants to throw the cutter, that is fine. time will tell how his elbow holds up. for a dude who has already had serious injury concerns in his young MLB career, the cutter is probably not a great pitch to throw…

i recall Mo giving advice to our own pitchers *NOT* to throw it if they have elbow troubles.

  30. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 12:40 pm

Okay this thing with Pena, we had to release him by a certain date if he was not with the team. There was no where to play him, remember Cash went out and got Craig Wilson, Nick GReen, and Aaron Guiel. He was released and he became a free agent and signed with the Red soxs. The red soxs thought enough of him not to re-sign him.

Come on people do you really think he’d hit like this with the Yankees!!??

  31. Gayle July 5th, 2007 at 12:43 pm

    Keith
Why is Cashman not trying to strengthen this bench at all….why not have paid some money to sign Mark Loretta and Greg Zaun instead

Loretta did not want to come here a neither did Zaun. I think a lotof people forget that Cashman did try and go after some of these players. Not every player wants to be a Yankee and deal with New York. I think that this is very much something that over the past few years and moving forward will be an issue. With money the players are getting they would rather not deal with everything that comes with NY

  32. Whoa July 5th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Barring an absolutely clean MRI, there is no way that A-Rod should play until after the break.

    Torre needs to chill.

It’s not like they can beat the Angels anyway.

  33. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Pete a couple of young ladies I work with wants me to ask you about YES reporter Kim Jones. One thinks either the broad has a crush on Jeter. The other thinks she’s his or another players gal. Another one thinks they know each other but she’s annoying as hell. Lol!

I guess I’ve never paid much attention to the reporters. I’m too interested in seeing what the players have to say after the game.

I dunno Pete they keep telling me to ask so I finally remembered. Lol!

  34. Stephen July 5th, 2007 at 12:46 pm

Bill: “What’s amazing are the poll results…Basically, most of us think the season is over already.”

This morning on WFAN, Chris Russo added up potential Yankees wins. If they split every 4-game series (except for a 4-game KC series he gave to the Yanks) and win EVERY 3-games series for the rest of the season, they’ll have 89 wins. That won’t get it done.

  35. Marius July 5th, 2007 at 12:49 pm

    Direct from Cashman:
This team hasn’t earned the right to fortifications. When they show they are a winning team then moves will be made.

  36. hmmm July 5th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

“Why is Cashman not trying to strengthen this bench at all….why not have paid some money to sign Mark Loretta and Greg Zaun instead of having Cairo and Nieves and Bernie should be on the team as a 5th outfielder/DH especially since he was a good right handed hitter”

yeah, why can’t the Yankees have every single player they want?! never mind that Zaun was re-signed before he actually hit free agency and that Cashman pursued loretta, but loretta wanted a chance for more playing time.

seriously, why on earth would Zaun sign on to be a backup when he is the starting catcher in Toronto? he gets about $3.5M from Toronto. what would the Yankees have to pay him to be a backup, $5-6M??

the bench is a weakness, but you can’t whine that the Yankees weren’t able to convince starting players to take backup jobs.

“is anyone holding Cashman accountable for this putrid bench and for not keeping Carlos Pena last year and signing Minky instead”

this is such BS monday morning QB’ing right here. EVERY SINGLE team in MLB passed on Pena this off-season. he took a NON ROSTER ST invite from the D-Rays. all of the best GMs passed on Pena and they all could use him: Sheurholtz, Ryan, Dombrowski, Beane, etc. i wanted Pena called up last season, but then they acquired Craig Wilson. Wilson was a better hitter than Pena and was a righty, which is what they needed after the Abreu trade. Pena had an opt out clause in his contract and he took it, he went to Boston and was mediocre. should he have gotten a chance last season when Phillips was starting? probably. is it BS to blame Cashman for not predicting his 2007 season? absolutely.

  37. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

Direct from NOT A FAN OF CASHMAN : Pound Sand ! Brian is a JOKE ! The team hasn’t earned the right to fortifications ? How about ” I, Brian Cashman, have made a lot of bonehead moves AND Non-moves…I need to do better and will do all that it taks to make this team better. ” And WHAT is WITH MATSUI batting 4th ???….ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? POSADA needs to be in the 4th spot while A-ROD is out !!! Am I the only one who sees how OBVIOUS that is ???

  38. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 12:59 pm

Posada batting 4th and Matsui 5th would leave us with 3 lefty hitters in a row in Matsui, Cano, and Abreu. Can you see how OBVIOUSLY dumb that would be?

  39. Bill July 5th, 2007 at 1:00 pm

Stephen: “This morning on WFAN, Chris Russo added up potential Yankees wins. If they split every 4-game series (except for a 4-game KC series he gave to the Yanks) and win EVERY 3-games series for the rest of the season, they’ll have 89 wins. That won’t get it done.”

All I can say is Wow

  40. Marc July 5th, 2007 at 1:01 pm

Dog, is all about numbers. he always ends up being wrong.

  41. Vince July 5th, 2007 at 1:02 pm

Emotional friend poster is hilarious! Sal is a moron.

  42. ray July 5th, 2007 at 1:03 pm

    Sal’s wife

Igawa “will pitch a gem today. Book it.” I would love some of that action and at around 5 this evening you would be paying big time!

  43. k July 5th, 2007 at 1:04 pm

anyone having problems with gameday audio? i see all of yesterdays games and all of tomorrows games but when i go to “today’s” page nothing shows up but “Loading…”

  44. k July 5th, 2007 at 1:05 pm

oh, well ignore that i was able to go through the yankees mlb.com page, thanks anyway

  45. hmmm July 5th, 2007 at 1:09 pm

“Direct from NOT A FAN OF CASHMAN : Pound Sand ! Brian is a JOKE ! The team hasn’t earned the right to fortifications ? How about â€? I, Brian Cashman, have made a lot of bonehead moves AND Non-moves…I need to do better and will do all that it taks to make this team better. ”

oh give it up. Cashman gave the Yankees a roster to start the season with all-stars at *every* *single* position except 1B. they had Wang, Pettitte, Moose, and Rivera. he added Clemens in May.

there is an *unbelievable* amount of talent up and down the roster. the players are not holding up their end of the bargain. it’s that simple.

i swear to god, Yankee fans are so unbelievably spoiled and the whining is becoming unbearable.

is Cashman perfect? nope. has any GM ever hit a HR on 100% of their moves? nope.

last year at the deadline, Theo looked at his team and decided to mostly stand pat. his fanbase was irate. but how is that working out for them this year? pretty well.

i agree with Cashman. this team is not one player away from being a good team, so why use up valuable prospects for more band-aids?

sometimes a bunch of players all have bad years all at the same time and the team isn’t as good as expected. it happens. deal with it.

if you guys were in charge of the Red Sox, you’d have wanted Theo fired last year for his team’s performance. look at the Sox now.

God forbid the Yankees miss the playoffs for a year.

  46. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:11 pm

    Nice post Hmmmm

  47. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:12 pm

What I am most afraid of, is if we miss the play-offs what will happen to this team. Will the Tampa group take over and blow up the team? Will they start trading our best pitching prospects for old, over the hill junk?

Great start by Kei, walks the first hitter, sounded like the last pitch wasn’t close.

  48. Wolf In Pinstripes July 5th, 2007 at 1:15 pm

    “Nice post Hmmmm”

Yup – as always. Great stuff, hmmm.

  49. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:16 pm

Great job Igawa!!!!!!!!!!!! He got a great hitter out!!!!!

  50. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:17 pm

    Igawa = My Brain Hurts

  51. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

So every hitter has gotten on so far. Great, I cannot wait for Phil Hughes to come back.

  52. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

If you want to actually estimate the max number of games the Yankees can win from here on out, just put an L for every game Igawa pitches…THEN…do whatever figuring you need to from then on. THIS GUY ABSOLUTELY STINKS !!!

  53. mike July 5th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

    Igawa blows

  54. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

Who is our long man? Villone? At least Pettitte pitches tomorrow.

  55. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

I just can’t figure how one of the best pitchers of his generation in Japan, which is about the level of AAA, can be so bad in MLB

  56. Bill July 5th, 2007 at 1:19 pm

    Igawa looks sharp today

  57. blackaccord July 5th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

I cant believe that we were comparing igawa’s stats with Dice-k… Igawa makes Ty clippard look good..

  58. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

I think we might get more outs if we put a tee up for them to hit off of.

Now did John Sterling just say Kei doesn’t have a strike out pitch? Did he lead the league in Japan in strike outs? Well I guess it just goes to further prove that Japanese pitchers don’t translate into MLB games.

  59. chris in fairfield July 5th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

igawa has no business playing major league baseball

  60. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

Jen, yeah i just heard that also.

Listening to this just makes me angry. If I saw Igawa on the street i’d take a club to his head.

  61. Matt July 5th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

What are they going to do with this guy with 4 more years left? This guy is not a major league pitcher, all of his pitches are up, he left 2 up to Hunter and he missed them, but he wont the next time up.

  62. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

OH god another mistake by Igawa. Did we save the reciept?

  63. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

I almost wish that they would call up Chamberlain or Kennedy but I know its the wrong move. Who is our next option for 5th starter? Clippard? Are desperate enough to call up Hernandez?

  64. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

As others have said, this is by far Cashmans biggest mistake. I would like to know who advised him, to sign Igawa? Was that Jean offerman (sp)? How can you look at this pitcher and think he will do well in the Majors?

  65. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

It truly hurts to watch this bum pitch. They need to run out there, strip that Yankees uniform off him and send DFA him right now !

  66. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:25 pm

    ( I am joking of course )

  67. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

only 29 pitches to get out of the 1st inning and he only gave up 2 runs….A VICTORY !!!

  68. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

We should put him on waviers, maybe someone will bite. It wouldn’t cost them that much to pick him up.

  69. Bill July 5th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

    29 pitches… not bad.

  70. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:27 pm

I can’t wait until some idiot makes this post within the next 3 hours:

“ehhhh lets trade Igawa and Clippard for Dontrelle Willis”

  71. Gayle July 5th, 2007 at 1:27 pm

Alan please I beg you go out and get a pizza

  72. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Not quite as bad as Pavano I think. The Johnson deal was pretty bad to.

  73. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Do you think if i lit him on fire, the Yankees could collect injury insurance on him?

  74. Gayle July 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Kei Igawa – does that mean “disaster” in Japanese?

  75. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

    Alan i’m not! :)

  76. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:28 pm

Oh and Susan is a moron. Slowey is a very very good pitcher for anyone who takes the time to look at his AAA stats. The guy is filthy.

  77. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

I can’t wait until some idiot makes this post within the next 3 hours:

“ehhhh lets trade Igawa and Clippard for Dontrelle Willis

Lol, we’d have to throw in Andy Phillips or Miguel Cairo in the deal of course

  78. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

Do you think if i lit him on fire, the Yankees could collect injury insurance on him?

    It couldn’t hurt

  79. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:30 pm

You can’t point to the Pavano signing. Other teams wanted him, others offered more. No one could foresee that he would pitch 10 games over 4 years.

I don’t know that the Randy thing was Cash though. George has always had a thing for Randy. Cash did do a good thing though, trading him! He is on the dl for the third time this season!! Even if we got garbage back for him, he’s off the books.

  80. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

We don’t really know what moves were Cashman and which were George. Getting rid of him was great but I`d love to have Dioner Navarro back right now.

  81. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

OH god another mistake by Igawa. Did we save the reciept?

    LOl! Jennifer. No kidding

Feed Igawa some comics, it’s said that he needs comics to live with. No wonder Dodgers had no interest at him.

  83. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:33 pm

    Mike NYY -

“ehh ok. Well ehh I don’t want to give that much up for only 1 player ehhh Cairo, Phillips, Clippard, and ehh Igawa for Ramirez and ehh Willis. Ehh thats a real fair trade.”

I feel like thats a pretty good impersonation of the idiot Yankee/Mets fans that plague sports talk radio with their retarded trades

  84. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Oh yes…we are in a MUCH better position with GROUNDZILLA up to bat here, than Posada….TORRE is an absolute GENIUS putting Posada 5th instead of cleanup !

  85. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:35 pm

Jamie, I don’t listen to the shows. Any actual examples?

  86. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 1:36 pm

Just joining. Hope everyone had a good 4th.

Looks like this is going to be a long day. Long inning for Yankees in the top half and no hitting in the bottom.

When does spring training start for 2008?

Anyone want to give odds on whether Torre and/or Cashman are fired at the end of the season?

  87. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:37 pm

What about making Larry Bowa the interim manager for the rest of the season? It mgiht not exactly help but he`ll be more fun to watch than Torre. Than next season bring in Girardi.

  88. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:38 pm

Yes, let us nitpick on Torre for the lineup, even though it is obvious that he thought there would be alot of bullpen use today, and didnt want three lefties in a row.

  89. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 1:38 pm

Mike NYY….I am 100% WITH YOU !!! Great idea !

  90. Jamie July 5th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

    Mike,

No joke i heard one idiot Met fan one time propose the garbage that is Miledge and John Valentin for Willis and Ramirez. The sad part is that these guys actually think this would have a chance of working.

  91. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:39 pm

Anyone want to give odds on whether Torre and/or Cashman are fired at the end of the season?

98% chance that Torre is fired. That 2% is that tiny hope I still have that the Yankees have a magical second half run.

55% chance that Cashman is fired.

  92. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    Igwa looks relaxed now.

  93. Doreen July 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

I had really hoped that Igawa would be able to get it together in the minors. I guess I’m officially discouraged. It does make you wonder how he did so well in Japan. And he DID do well over there.

  94. Rattachewy July 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    LET’S GO EDWAR RAMIREZ !

  95. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    Good play by the Captain

  96. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    Alan is that sarcasm?

Lol, Valentin is that second baseman that had a career year last year right? Any others?

Jeter would be a fantastic outfielder

  97. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

    Alan,

You’re an idiot. If Posada was batting 4th, they would have three lefties in a row: Matsui, Cano, Abreu. Duh.

  98. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

It does make you wonder how he did so well in Japan. And he DID do well over there

I guess it is just different approaches. The Japanese players are more fundamentally sound and play more small ball I think. THat worked perfectly for Igawa who allows a lot of FB’s

  99. kasey July 5th, 2007 at 1:43 pm

it’ll be tough to “fire” torre at the end of the season, as his contract is up. they just won’t re-sign him.

speaking of firing cashman, at least pavano had the decency to fake a series of injuries and then slink away, fading quickly from everyone’s memory. igawa’s out there every fifth day, torturing us.

    big thanks, brian. helluva signing.

  100. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:44 pm

Japan is a little different playing there. Not as many games and possibly a little less stress. It takes some of the players from Japan to get more adjusted when the get to the states. At least that’s what I’ve been told.

  101. ray July 5th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Hey Sal’s wife….Igawa gives up two runs in the first inning….definitely on his way to pitching a gem! LOL

  102. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

it’ll be tough to “fire torre at the end of the season, as his contract is up. they just won’t re-sign him.

I think that’s what was meant.

  103. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

Jeter gets better each time you watch him play at ss. He’s mastered the position.

  104. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:45 pm

New idea. Cage match between Igawa and Farnsworth. I can see the PPV ads already.
(Cue dramatic Music) Two men……two pairs of extremely cool sunglasses……one cage……Kei “Even Nardi couldnt fix me “Igawa v. Kyle “1-2-3 innings are for losers” Farnsworth….The battle to the death. See it now, on Pay per View. (More Dramatic Music).

  105. I LOVE Giambi! July 5th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

I love the yanks, BUT I cannot believe we failed to bid enough to get DiceK, and then instead to try to look like the all knowing and powerful pinstipes power and poseurs Yankees, spent 50 MILLION DOLLARS on a consolation prize who blows.

God I wish we bid enough for Dicek.

  106. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:46 pm

Hey Sal’s wife….Igawa gives up two runs in the first inning….definitely on his way to pitching a gem! LOL

  108. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

Wow it really seems like Kay gets more excited over opposing teams HR’s then Yankee HR’s. He almost seemed upset Cano hit one.

  109. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

In the scheme of things the Igawa $4 mill a yr mistake is minot.

Giambi, Damon, Pavano, farnsworth, and others are much bigger mistakes..It is like saying the Myers signing is huge. No it is not, Myers stinks but it is a minor mistake..

Looks like all the losers are posting early today, just the 2nd inning and they are out in mass, this could be a long day.

The Igawa walk is the thing that bothers me, the leadoff wlak… Morneau is just to good for Igawa but the walk is the problem…

  110. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:48 pm

Cano with another home run. Yes tie game . How about Cano in this series

  111. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

I wish the Yankees had signed Ted Lilly instead of Igawa. I know the whole luxury tax thing would have cost more but Igawa has an ERA over 7.00 and Lilly (last I checked, a few weeks ago) is having a great year. The extra money was obviously worth it. I think the Igawa signing was more of a panic/PR move to “counter” the Matsuzaka signing

  112. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

I got ahead of myself in excitement. Not a tie game yet. lol..just wishful thinking..but I feel a score here

  113. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

Wow it really seems like Kay gets more excited over opposing teams HR’s then Yankee HR’s. He almost seemed upset Cano hit one.

He’ll have nothing to talk about on his radio show if the Yankees stop struggling

  114. ray July 5th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

    TJ
With all due respect it sounds like you are making excuses for Igawa. Granted the two cultures are different but Okajima with Boston has been used in a lot of tough situations and right now his ERA is 0.88!

  115. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 1:50 pm

  116. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

The Lilly signing would me a mistake. 4 yrs for a ton of money another bad signing, Igawa is less then 1/2 the cost….

  117. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

50 bucks says Igawa gives right back whatever we get.

  118. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:51 pm

Stuart, consider that he cost an extra 26 million in luxury tax and he is stuck with us for 5 years. Not to mention for slightly more we could have had a proven Ted Lilly

  119. chris in fairfield July 5th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

a team would have to send off 2 or 3 top tier prospects for d-train . lastings millege isnt one of them . i just want igawa , nieves , meyers , villone , farnworth and mussina gone . i want to see a new manager come 2008 and more top level farm hands in the system . i agree with cashman that this team doesnt deserve any trade deadline upgrades . the playoffs are no where in sight for this yankee team .

  120. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:52 pm

    Phillips hitting .273

  121. hmmm July 5th, 2007 at 1:53 pm

“God I wish we bid enough for Dicek.”

me too, but unfortunately the bids were blind.

what should they have bid, $60M? what is the bid where you GUARANTEE you win? $60M.

you can’t say $52M without knowing the Sox bid first.

you are guessing. it’s a stupid system. the Sox made a good guess. it was smart.

but i can’t “blame” the Yankees for not bidding $60M.

  122. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

Ray I said that’s what I had been told when Doreen asked the question about his playing from Japan. Not making excuses but just answering a question. scroll up and read her comment. You don’t have to agree here. I just basically put in two cents whether it’s correct I have no idea. I said it’s what I’ve been told. One of the corporations we are affiliated with owns one of the Japan’s baseball team.

  123. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

    Woo hoo.

  124. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

Oh, NVM on Lilly. Last I check he had something like a 2.50 ERA. Now its 3.80.

  125. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

Yankees making the move. I predict another score.

  126. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 1:54 pm

oops meant to say Torre before season end, Cashman at seasons end.

I am going to say 90% Torre is gone in August. Yanks will be out and they will construct some sort of exit plan that moves the team towards 2008. This will eliminate the need for any discussion on whether Torre will be retained.

Cashman, I believe will NOT be fired. I believe he will be given one more year to see if his plan works out. I do think that Mattingly will NOT be hired and that the Yankees will look elsewhere (Girardi others) for a manager.

  127. 2007 Yankees July 5th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

Lilly would have had a no trade in his contract and they wouldn’t be able to dump him, like they will do in the off season with Igawa.

  128. ray July 5th, 2007 at 1:55 pm

    Okay TJ…I appreciate your point.

  129. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

I agree on Cashman Colorado Yank but on Torre I think he will unfortunately be given the opportunity to ruin the second half of the season as well as the first one

  130. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

I think Dice-K will come back to earth in the second half of the season and next year to fall into an average #3 pitcher.

Give teams and hitters time to adjust to him.

  131. chris in fairfield July 5th, 2007 at 1:57 pm

  134. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 1:59 pm

The think with Pavano, people were screaming why didn’t we trade him. In the end the Yankees were probably better off not trading him. They collected insurance on him. Where as all they would have gotten back was a prospect who might not have amounted to anything, and the would have had to give good portion of money to the team taking him.

I mean when you look back on it, they could’ve spent $6 million less for Lilly or shelled out 9 mil more for Gil Meche. I remember hearing an analyst, I believe Orestes Estrada on Mike and the Mad Dog, who praised Dice K like he was the best thing since sliced bread. They then asked him about Igawa at the end, and a guy who was liberal with his praise basically proclaimed Igawa a fifth starter. Right there I knew we were in trouble. You really question what made the Yanks bid 26 mil for this guy.

Ahem, ever hear of a little thing called Luxary Tax? Obviously not but the Yankees made the deal with Igawa because he would be immune to the tax the Yankees have to deal with now.

Signing a Lilly or a Meche would be a 13-15 million a year investment not 9 or 10 million.

At the time the Yankees thought they were going cheaper and just as effective in Igawa over Meche or Lilly. I mean really, it was a stupid idea to get Igawa but AT THE TIME was Meche or Lilly really worth 15 million a year? Heck no.

  151. BBB - I want T-Clip!! July 5th, 2007 at 2:06 pm

Welp, I am sneaking on here and my cell phone for game updates during the workday–and I see that Igawa’s suckitude strikes again. (Actually, maybe I shouldn’t even use “Igawa” and “strikes” in the same sentence–seeing as how he can’t throw them and all!)

From the beginning I didn’t understand putting him in the rotation over Clippard, and I understand it even less now. Sure, T-Clip has his issues, some of which are fairly major, but at least we have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning w/him on the mound. Igawa, on the other hand, just sucks. There are no 2 ways around it. He wrote the book on suck!

Where’s Ted Lilly when you really need him?

Oh–just saw we got a delivery from the Melkman! Nice!!! Too bad it won’t make Igawa suck any less….

  154. mel July 5th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

If we lose this game, it’ll be because of Kay and his big fat mouth. “The Yankees own the Twins.” Such a jinxer.

  155. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Igawa is a 5th starter.. The Yanks did not pay a luxury tax with Igawa you are wrong…

If you said the Yanks signed Igawa and did not sign Moose I would think that would have been a good thing but the team would have been even worse at present since Igawa stinks..

again I would take a stinky Igawa over meche, lilly, zito and the rest I think all those guys are better then Igawa but not very good and much more expensive…

Melky is not a superstar but he is a good player, he is 23 yrs old, and has no fear.. He should be here for a long time. Worse case scenario he is a 4th outfielder but I think he can be a 280, 18, and 80 guy for yrs. with good d and a very good arm…And he is cheap…

  156. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 2:07 pm

Reflecting back on it Hughes really should have started the season in the ML’s. Obviously hindsight is 20-20 but still…

  160. Global Warming July 5th, 2007 at 2:10 pm

Clippard had 1 good start and the rest of them was sub par. His straight 88 MPH fastball doesn’t cut when his control is off.

I’d rather let Igawa pitch and not have 10 mil a year waste in the minors.

  161. YanksSox July 5th, 2007 at 2:11 pm

  163. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 2:11 pm

The list of great players with poor rookie seasons is long. You can’t just write off Slowey after only a handful of starts after what he’s done in the minors.

  164. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 2:13 pm

I’d rather let Igawa pitch and not have 10 mil a year waste in the minors.

I agree with having Igawa stay up (by default) but I disagree with the principle. Would you rather pay a guy to hurt the team or pay a guy to do nothing?

  165. Gayle July 5th, 2007 at 2:14 pm

Mike dont you know that is EXACTLy what we do here in New York. As they say not many youngplayers for the Yankees get a second chance to make a first impression. (please note the sarcasm)

  166. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 2:15 pm

Minnesota knows what they are doing.. SLowey probably will have a long good career. Garza is going to be a star and he is Hughes buddy and they have slowey starting over him

Many prospect never pan out that is true but the only chance Hughes will fail is injury alone. If he does not get hurt a ton he is going to be GREAT….He has mega stuff and moxie, once in a generation, remember that.. Karsten, clippard, rasner, etc. cannot remotely compare to him, never.

  167. E-ROC July 5th, 2007 at 2:15 pm

I think Cash needs to do something like trade Myers and Farns for something useful like Michael Bourn. Promote Sean Henn and Chris Britton. I don’t know if Villone should leave. He doesn’t ever get a chance to pitch. Hughes will be taking Iggy’s spot. Does Iggy go to the ‘pen??? Is he really an upgrade over Henn or Britton or Villone for that matter??? Promote Shelley Duncan even though he has holes in his swing. He’s our Jack Cust and batting right handed. We looking for a bench because Damon aged 5 years in a span of two months. It’s unbelievable. Do u trade Abreu?? He is what makes our lineup tick. But there might be an NL team our there needing a bat. Would we waive his no-trade clause?? He might leave a gaping whole in the outfield. One thing is for sure, Nieves HAS to go. He makes our lineup look even worse than it already is. Why didn’t we make the trade for Jose Molina?? Don’t we have Todd Pratt or Raul Chavez hiding somewhere?? Maybe we can trade for Ronny Belliard. I don’t know. I just know Farns isn’t reliable. Bruney walks a batter then gives up a homerun almost everytime he pitches. Proctor is the ever imploding one although he could duplicate last season’s second half. Villone gets dusted off every other week. Vizcaino seems legit now. Sorry for the essay people.

  168. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 2:15 pm

    Wow, a scoreless inning

  169. Locakes July 5th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

“Slowey goes to show why minor league studs (i.e. Hughes, Joba, Ian) aren’t always sure Cy Young #1 Aces.

(even though I do think Hughes will be a stud)”

I just checked and Slowey didn’t ever strike out one per inning in the high minors so he’s not on the level of the guys you mentioned. I’d put him more in the category of Clippard and Karstens. That’s the thing, the Yanks have focused on pitching in the draft for a few years. Now, as a result their second-tier pitching prospects are as good as most
    team’s first-tier guys.

  170. Angel© July 5th, 2007 at 2:16 pm

  173. KH.Taiwan July 5th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

Thank god, Igawa held two innings, keep doing it, please.

  174. Global Warming July 5th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

Money talks. Players are played most of the time because of contracts and not ability.

    Exhibit A- Kyle Farnsworth.

Exhibit B- Chris Britton and before being called up Edwar Ramirez.

    Anyway,
Igawa is a lefty with enough velocity to succeed. He just needs to keep his pitches down. Sadly though, I feel like we might have another “Contreas” on our hands. Fails in NY, trade him and suceeds in another city. Oh well.

  175. BBB - I want T-Clip!! July 5th, 2007 at 2:17 pm

    Global Warming,
I admit, I am a huge Trenton Thunder homer, so that might bias my opinion somewhat. But Clippard actually had 2 good starts in the majors–not that that’s anything to write home about, but it’s 1 more than Igawa’s had. When T-Clip can throw his fastball for strikes, he’s a success. Hopefully he is working right now in the minors on doing that more consistently. I did understand why they sent him down in the first place to give Igawa another look, but Igawa has shown me practically nothing, and Clippard’s shown alot IMO, so now I’m thinking it is time to give him another chance and send Suck-gawa packing. Or at least put him in the pen. I know that’s one expensive reliever but as Pete has pointed out, it’s not like the $ is going to charity if the Yanks dont spend it…

  176. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 2:18 pm

Does Posada just look gassed? I think that Cashman needs to go out and get a catcher, regardless if this team shows it wants to compete or whatever explanation he gave.

Can’t keep doing this to Posada unless you plan to wear him down and use it against him in negotiations in the offseason. If so, that is BS.

Who is out there for a low level prospect? Mike Myers for a back up catcher seems like a fair trade?

E-Roc I think Michael Bourn could indeed be a good person to trade Farns for–him and Chris Coste. The Phillies need bullpen help badly, would add depth to our bench and Coste can play 1st and 3rd as well as catch…and this almost goes w/o saying, but he’s a much better hitter than Nieves.

  178. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 2:20 pm

Mike Myers for a bag of BP balls seems like a fair trade.

  179. Joe L July 5th, 2007 at 2:21 pm

Apparently, Melky and Cano skipped the Dominican clubbing last night. It’s about time Cano shows up for a day game. Only half the season is gone.

And I’d still trade him in a heartbeat for Texeira or Dontrelle.

  180. Mike July 5th, 2007 at 2:23 pm

IDK if anyone has stated this yet, but Phil Hughes is pitching his first rehab start in Tampa on Monday.

  181. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

I just realized that Damon is playing CF instead of Melky. Why?

  182. Fireworks cause air pollution and global warming. July 5th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

gary Sheffield just hit his 29th homerun

  183. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

I predict that we will need to score 10 runs to win this game…

  184. TKinDC July 5th, 2007 at 2:26 pm

Damon made a great catch – - – someone call the chiropractor and make 15 reservations!!!

  185. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

    not 10 MORE runs…just 10 total runs….

  186. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Damon is playing CF because Torre said he wanted to give Matsui a day off in the field.

    comon indians

  188. TKinDC July 5th, 2007 at 2:29 pm

unless Sheff has 10 HR’s today the above post is wrong, he entered the day with 19.

    And he’s a jerk.

  189. Sal's wife's "emotional friend" July 5th, 2007 at 2:31 pm

I’m trying to remain supportive of Igawa, but how the heck to you walk Nick Punto?

  190. Sal's wife's "emotional friend" July 5th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

That’s what happens when you walk Nick Punto. Unreal.

  191. sunny615 July 5th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    time to take Igawa out.

  192. TurnTwo July 5th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

This is what I dont get from people who argue that Nieves as a personal catcher is completely detrimental to the Yankees, because it takes Posada’s bat out of the lineup (I’m looking right at you, Michael Kay…)

look, we would all love Posada’s bat at 100% for 162 games. But a catcher is not going to catch 162 games, and we cant throw him at DH because of playing time Torre needs to balance between Melky and Damon, now that Damon is a complete non-option in CF, and then even moreso when Giambi comes back.

the 2nd catcher needs to play to give Posada a rest, or else he’ll be batting .200 in August and September… now it’s not Torre’s fault he needs to play Nieves; that falls on Cashman… but having a personal catcher to ensure Jorge gets a rest 1 out of every 5 days isnt a bad.

  193. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

    GET IGAWA OUT OF THERE!!!!

  194. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 2:32 pm

“Rodriguez’s hamstring strain is a small one—”Grade I, maybe,” I was told—and the result of a collision and the odd motion that he took in both avoiding and reacting an accident. Rodriguez will need to protect the hamstring over the next week to make sure that he doesn’t re-injure it while it heals. It appears that taking the All-Star break to heal rather than to play an exhibition game is the smart play.” – BP’s injury guru Will Carroll

As for Slowey, he is a highly regarded prospect but not in the same stratosphere as Hughes, Biley, Gallardo, etc. He is a control artist, who projects as a solid 2-3-4 type starter, but doesn’t have the ceiling of a top level prospect. He’s had, what, 4 or 5 starts? Writing him off as an example of how prospects don’t pan out is absurd, everyone needs to relax. He’ll be just fine, along with Melky, Cano, and our young pitchers.

  195. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Kei Igawa stinks!! walks the #9 hitter!! UGH

  196. Fireworks cause air pollution and global warming. July 5th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

  197. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 2:33 pm

apologize for the yelling. Just didn’t want to let these guys back in the game.

  198. KH.Taiwan July 5th, 2007 at 2:34 pm

Igawa is a lefty with enough velocity to succeed.
    ————————————————-
Agree, but he needs to put his mechanics together, that will be a lot of work. Had he got right working attitude like his countryman Zilla, not like he did in Japan, he might succeed in the big league.

  199. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 2:34 pm

  202. sunny615 July 5th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

bye-bye igawa you total worthless piece of dog poo

  203. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

Got to love the consistency of out pitching staff. Anyone, PETE, have an idea of how many times the Yankees have given a pitcher a lead only to see it go away? Within 1 inning after getting the lead? Within 2-3?

  204. kasey July 5th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

igawa’s awful. let’s end that conversation now, please. he’s terrible. he doesn’t have “enough velocity to be successful,” he’s not going to “learn command of his off-speed pitches” and he isn’t “a better signing than lilly would have been.” that’s nonsense. he’s a terrible pitcher. period. end of discussion.

  205. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 2:35 pm

0 and 2 on Bartlett. Igawa does officially stink.. can he put anyone away..

    his ERA is 7 ..

    He is just junk..

  207. Global Warming July 5th, 2007 at 2:36 pm

    Edwar Ramirez warming. Yippeee :)

  208. sunny615 July 5th, 2007 at 2:36 pm

oh good grief – he’s still in the game

  209. wheels July 5th, 2007 at 2:36 pm

i hope this is the last we see of him.

  210. kd July 5th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Igawa is simply not a major league player. He doesn’t scare or trick anyone. He may be another Contreras, but Jose had a lot of ‘stuff’

This is making me sick to my stomach

  211. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 2:37 pm

Talk to him on the mound? Take him out

    bye bye kei, hello joba

  214. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

We should have signed Lilly, end of story. He had proven that he could pitch in the AL East at a decent level, which is all we need from a 4th/5th type starter. The luxury tax hit would have been worth it, instead of putting up with this trash every fifth day. Igawa is awful.

  215. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

that’s right…take a visit to the mound and LEAVE THIS BUM IN THE GAME !…Again…Torre is not satisfied until the starter TOTALLY GIVES UP THE LEAD…..Is there some TORRE RULE that it is IMPOSSIBLE to take out a starter BEFORE he totally erases all of our offensive output ? Did I MISS that memo ???

  216. sunny615 July 5th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

maybe we can trade him for a box of matches (for Proctor)

  217. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 2:38 pm

I do know Japanese pitchers when they play in Japan are trained not to show any emotion. This was just told to me by a guy who’s from Tokyo.

  218. BBB - I want T-Clip!! July 5th, 2007 at 2:39 pm

wow, could Igawa possibly suck any harder? I can’t believe they still have him in there!

I would honestly rather see Ron Villone in the rotation than have this clown start one more game.

Hard to hide the fact you know you stink

  220. Global Warming July 5th, 2007 at 2:40 pm

Igawa is not worthy of those Sun Glasses.

  228. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 2:42 pm

82 pitches in just 4 innings and has already given up 5 runs….We need to let this guy try to make it a complete game, huh ?

  229. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Just don’t replace Igawa with Bruney. That’s all I ask.

  230. boboo July 5th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

yankees bullpen vs. twins bullpen = another yankees loss

  231. Wolf In Pinstripes July 5th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

Earlier in the year I said let’s give Igawa 5-6 starts to show what he was truly made of. He ends up getting sent down to Tampa to work on his mechanics, and I’m thiking “good! he’ll come back strong.”. Yeah, right. I’m officially on the Igawa Stinks Bandwagon now. Eat the money spent on his posting fee and ship him out along with Farnsworth … NOW.

  232. Fireworks cause air pollution and global warming. July 5th, 2007 at 2:43 pm

what team in their right mind would actually take these players?

  234. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

can someone explain to me why no one is up in the Yankee pen? Isn’t it obvious that Igawa stinks? Don’t we need to win this game?

  235. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Yes, people are just clamoring to get Farny and Igawa.

  236. BBB - I want T-Clip!! July 5th, 2007 at 2:46 pm

  237. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

    T.J.

The Boss has only attended one game this year – Opening Day. He probably barely even knows who Igawa is at this point, otherwise, the heads would be rolling in the Bronx.

  238. xe July 5th, 2007 at 2:47 pm

Igawa’s next Kaz Ishii or Kaz Matsui who eventually become a bust.

  239. boboo July 5th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

hey someone took irabu and gave the yankees ted lilly and jake westbrook for him. anything is possible

  240. Global Warming July 5th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

If you eat enough salary you could in theory get rid of Igawa. A lefty with enough velocity to succeed. Kind of like Contreras part 2.

Farnsworth on the other hand teams would actually want, a reliever with that much velocity is actually a commodity to some.

  241. sunny615 July 5th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

well, I’m in the out right release igawa boat. Forget getting anything for him because the only thing we can possible get is maybe a box of old cereal. Just let him go.

  245. Alvin July 5th, 2007 at 2:51 pm

What just happened? It was 5-2. Now it’s 5-5! What a sad state of affairs that this team in in. They have this unbelieveable 2nd inning and give it all right back.

This is a loss in the making!

13 back at the end of the night!

  246. David July 5th, 2007 at 2:51 pm

STOP THROWING SLURVES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE F*CKING PLATE – Igawa. Go BACK TO jAPAn, Retard.

Igawa’s doesn’t know how to pitch.

Floating breaking balls in the middle of the plate is inexcusable.

He always misses the target, And he has no concept of how to pitch with a lead

  247. David July 5th, 2007 at 2:52 pm

I’d rather see Clippard or even Fat Hernanedz

  248. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

  262. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 2:58 pm

Please God have Alan Horne make Igawa’s next start.

  264. TKinDC July 5th, 2007 at 3:01 pm

I wonder if Matsui’s wrist is still an issue? That was such an ugly injury.
The funny thing is that he is 2nd on the team in RBI after A-Rod. Hopefully he gets better as the year goes on.

  265. dr July 5th, 2007 at 3:01 pm

Called up Joba or Ian now.. Please Cashman. Igawa’s piece of garbage. I can’t stand this guy especially He’s wearing that stupid sunglasses. Is he trying to be Michael Jackson?

  266. mark July 5th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

    TKinDC,
RBI is such an overrated stat..basically Morneau won the MVP last year because he drove in over 100 runs while Jeter didn’t

  267. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:02 pm

Mo…ANY Manager…YOU get a clue, pal….If you think that in CLUTCH situations, Posada would have fared just as poorly as Matt-screwy, you need to re-evaluate how many bananas you are smoking on a daily basis….

  268. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 3:03 pm

Anyone read this article: I am excited about Farnsworth getting traded. Interesting. Oh and so not get beat up like SJ44, these are NOT my words. Cut and paste folks, Cut and paste.

    Yankees To Offer Up Abreu?
Bob Klapisch of the Bergen Record talked to one Major League executive who believes the Yankees are likely to shop outfielder Bobby Abreu to the NL this month. The key would be the Yankees paying a portion of the $10MM coming to Abreu this year.

Abreu still has a $16MM option for 2008 with a $2MM buyout attached. If he has a few more months like June – .290/.408/.470 – the option could still be picked up. The Yanks could exercise it and then look to trade him during the offseason. The cost certainty and one-year commitment might be attractive to some teams, even if Abreu is basically now Brian Giles. The Yankees are currently 12 games out in the AL East and 8.5 out in the Wild Card race. Nonetheless, their playoff chances fall in the 11-18% range based on the various simulations out there. It’s not quite time to fold it in and play for next year.

However, if the Yankees keep losing and are more officially out of it in three weeks, Abreu seems the most logical choice to be traded. Kyle Farnsworth is a no-brainer as well. Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera could all become free agents after the season, but I can’t see any of them getting traded.

Abreu would be a nice fit in Arizona as a summer rental, in my opinion

  269. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

Ok, start with the sophmoric insults. Any manager would have constructed it this way, becuase you knew the pens would come into play and you dont want three consecutive lefties. Show me your lineup, maybe its better, but i doubt it.

  270. KH.Taiwan July 5th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

You got to get a strong heart and tons of patience to watch Igawa pitching…

  271. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

The problem with picking up Bobby’s option is he has a no trade. Sheff didn’t that is why we were able to do so.

  272. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:09 pm

    Damon
    Cano
    Jeter

  273. kasey July 5th, 2007 at 3:09 pm

igawa goes 5 innings of 5-run ball and then hands the ball over to the unreliable bullpen. that’s pretty much how you draw it up, right?

  274. mel July 5th, 2007 at 3:11 pm

HaHa, Reyes first name is Dennys, more like Denny’s

  275. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:11 pm

    Damon
    Cano
    Jeter
    Posada
    Matsui
    Cabrera
    Abreu
    Cairo
    Philips

  276. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:12 pm

Posada RIsp.273 RIsp 2 outs .216 Matsui Risp .266 Risp 2 outs .250 Matsui has same amount of homers, more RBI’s than Posada. Obviously Posada is having a better year, but people tend to underate Matsui drastically.

  277. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 3:13 pm

    Alan,

Why would we want 3 lefties in a row? Stop trolling these dumb comments.

  278. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:16 pm

Bob NJ, Ok and where in my lineup are 3 lefties in a row ???

  279. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:16 pm

Your lineup is built on what they did today. Cano cant move runners over and doesnt get on, hes not a 2 hitter. Melky in an RBI slot with terrible slugging numbers, also a bad move.

  280. Drive 4-5 July 5th, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Cashman is right ( first time this year ) that this team isn’t deserving of picking up a veteran to help with the 2nd half. What he didn’t say is that he himself is not deserving to be around for the 2nd half.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if he got ANYTHING in return for Gary Sheffield?? Moves like that and the $46mil Igawa disaster gets you unemployed in the real world.

  281. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 3:18 pm

    Nice at bat by Cairo

  282. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Also, Joe wants to get some consistency, so all he changed was moving Matsui up, everyone else stayed where they were.

  283. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 3:19 pm

what is the odds the pen holds the twins for 4 innings with zero runs? I say about 10%..
Guys discuss all day lineups, and what hitter to bring in and other nonsense, if the Yanks had a good pen the ywould be in the playoffs.

4 innings of this pen!!!!!!How many walks? I say 3…

Hopefully Ramirez will get in and pitch well.

    Pray for the best.

  284. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:19 pm

He got two highly regarded guys for Sheff. Lets wait two years before you judge that deal.

  285. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:19 pm

OK,,,then we can just agree to disagree….How about we just bat Jeter every time and have the others run for him ??? (wink)…..

  286. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

IGAWA IS DONE !!! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!!

  287. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 3:21 pm

    Alan,

I posted that before I saw your line up, I assumed you would simply switch Matsui and Posada. The line up needs to have some consistency day to day, and like Mo said, Cano is not an ideal 2 hitter and Melky shouldn’t be in a position where he is depended upon to drive in runs.

  288. Drive 4-5 July 5th, 2007 at 3:23 pm

Mo- that’s what we were told. Trouble is, it will be 2 yeats before Humberto Sanchez will pitch again. He was damaged goods and Cashman knew it but took him anyways.

  289. Dj July 5th, 2007 at 3:24 pm

I hope Yankees don’t sign Posada’s next year. His game calling behind the plate is average at best. Most of pitchers aren’t comfortable throwing to Posada. See Big Unit, Mike Mussina, El Duque for example. I take my chances getting extra draft pick for him. I would rather have Joe Girardi back than Posada. Girardi’s knows how handle the pitching staff and He’s smart catcher . Since Joe left, The Yankees dynasty has never been the same.

  290. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

    What happened to SJ44?

The sad thing is Igawa pitched just poorly enough that Torre will probably give him another start

  291. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:25 pm

You are swupposed to wait on prospects anyways. If he is going to be as good as they say, then ill wait.

  292. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

    Lol Dj

  293. Jeezus July 5th, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Actually Sanchez came with a clean bill of health.

  294. mel July 5th, 2007 at 3:27 pm

People want to keep Minky because of his glove, but just can’t wait to get rid of Cano. Too funny.

  295. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:28 pm

Sanchez came with a litany of injuries.

  296. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:29 pm

OK…so we put Girardi behind the plate ( why not let him be a player/manager as we can Torre ? ) we also get Giambi and Hughes back ASAP, we then EASILY finish with 100 wins and sweep ALL our playoff games INCLUDING the World Series ( oops…I think that was ME going back to smoking the bananas…sorry ! )

  297. Drive 4-5 July 5th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

I’d agree Mo, but how could Cashman have agreed to take Sanchez knowing there were serious questions about his elbow? And who’s to say Sanchez will fully recover?

Kevin Wheelan started slowly but has pitched better of late.

It still is less than fair value for one of the most feared hitters in baseball.

  298. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

OK…all we need is 5 more runs and this game is IN THE BAG !!!

  299. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

What a play Cano made yesterday to turn two, even though we went on to lose it was huge at the time.

  300. 2007 Yankees July 5th, 2007 at 3:30 pm

    DJ

Please tell us who is going to catch those 140 games and give us .300 20 hrs 100 rbis??

  301. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 3:32 pm

    I think Dj was joking

  302. Drive 4-5 July 5th, 2007 at 3:32 pm

Jeezus- Sanchez has elbow problems in both ’06 and ’05.

  303. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:33 pm

    I was joking too….GO YANKEES ! ( we CAN agree on that,,,right ??? )

  304. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 3:37 pm

We can’t even score one freakin run

  305. 2007 Yankees July 5th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

    We’ve scored 5 so far….lol

  306. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:40 pm

OK here we go…Matsui came through and so will Jorge and we will get that freakin run, Mike !!!

  307. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:42 pm

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh !!!

  308. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 3:43 pm

Oh so because mister surley fragile back didn’t want Jorge catching him means he stinks. If you ever hear Roger talk about Jorge, he loves him! He loves his game calling everything. When he was going for 300 he wanted Jorge behind the plate. Jorge was so bad he’s caught David Wells perfect game, had a perfect game with Moose, Lieber. Yeah he sucks!! Get rid of him!!

Oh please where the heck do people come up with this stuff.

  309. Mike (AKA Avery Blasts Brodeur) July 5th, 2007 at 3:43 pm

0 for 5 since the 3rd inning with RISP.

  310. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 3:44 pm

oops what one word does to a thought.

    lol

    forgot almost**

  311. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:47 pm

Proctor walks the leadoff man !!! NICE !!!

  312. Mo July 5th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Proctor has an ERA under 4 and hitters hit less than 250 against him. So why does it feel like he never gets anyone out.

  313. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Odds Proctor gives up the lead?

  314. Chris July 5th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

Here we go again…Proctor walks the first batter.

  315. Mike (AKA Avery Blasts Brodeur) July 5th, 2007 at 3:49 pm

70% chance proctor gives up the lead

  316. Chris July 5th, 2007 at 3:49 pm

    Colorado Yank…no bet!

  317. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 3:51 pm

Those are not good answers… I am going out on a limb and saying 69% chance. Choosing 69 just because it looks like a Yin Yang sign and maybe good karma will feed off of that.

  318. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 3:52 pm

Ok… gladly will eat crow for that inning of

  319. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:52 pm

a GIDP for the opposing team ??? how the HALE did THAT happen ??????

  320. Mike (AKA Avery Blasts Brodeur) July 5th, 2007 at 3:53 pm

glad to be way off on my guess

  321. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 3:54 pm

The Bombers better get a run before Neshek and Nathan get involved.

  322. mel July 5th, 2007 at 3:54 pm

O.K. that worked out, but in a tie game with the Yankees’ inability to score a run when they need to how many of you would’ve trotted out Vizcaino for another inning?

  323. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 3:55 pm

OK…I admit it,,my idea of putting Posada @ cleanup was 100% wrong…wrong…wrong…wrong ! He is the only Yankee without a hit and I am a silly man !

  324. River Ave Report July 5th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Farnsworth warming in the bullpen, just what everyone wants to see.

  325. Jeff July 5th, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Phil Hughes first rehab start will be Monday for the Tampa FSL Yankees, Peter.

  326. Locakes July 5th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

It’s funny, all of the people who make that(idiotic) “Girardi was better” argument have one thing in common; they’re Italian. Just saying.

  327. Sw July 5th, 2007 at 3:58 pm

I having a seizure and headache that Farnsworth is warming up in Yankees Pen… Nooo. Bring in Edwar Joe.

  328. kidjock July 5th, 2007 at 3:59 pm

When there are people complaining about Posada, the Yankees must be losing. Posada is a bona fide all-star catcher. This just goes to show you Yankees fans cannot withstand a rebuilding year.

  329. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 3:59 pm

Oh my god, this offense is terrible, its completely and unutterly pathetic

  330. Jeezus July 5th, 2007 at 4:00 pm

Sanchez had an incident of elbow tightness, but nothing major or unexpected. No one knew he would have to get TJ surgery.

  331. saucy July 5th, 2007 at 4:02 pm

you can tell if people are italian by their screen names?

  332. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 4:03 pm

I can’t see gameday and am at work. Is it still tied at 5????

  333. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 4:03 pm

OK…we are gonna start bagging on Italians now ? That is really lame !

  334. saucy July 5th, 2007 at 4:04 pm

yes scott, going into the 8th…

  335. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

    thank you..

  336. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

    NOT FARNSWORTH AHHHHHHHHHHHH

  337. mark July 5th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

    Game over. Farns is in.

  338. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 4:06 pm

  339. mel July 5th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

    C’mon Kyle, it’s easy as 1-2-3!

  340. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 4:07 pm

what a GIFT for Hunter that he gets to face FARNS !!!….let’s see how much of a MEAT Pitch he gets a chance to crush…

  341. chris in fairfield July 5th, 2007 at 4:09 pm

the only problem i’ve ever had with posada was his passed balls rate . other than that – you could do alot worse than posada . best hitting catcher in baseball .

  342. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 4:10 pm

best hitting catcher in baseball .

The 2006 AL Batting Champ says hi

  343. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:10 pm

What is wrong with all of you. Get of each other. Stop being trolls and making dumb comments. I dont even read the comments anymore. if you have nothing positive to say go sulk in the corner with your pasiphier, a berenstein bears book, and your stat sheet until next season

  344. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 4:11 pm

    2 outs !!!

  345. Ben July 5th, 2007 at 4:11 pm

Wow, Farns is threatening to have a 1-2-3 inning!

  346. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 4:12 pm

  349. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 4:14 pm

  350. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 4:14 pm

    FARNSY RULES….FARNSY RULES !!! (wink)

  351. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 4:14 pm

wow, am i taking crazy pills? Next thing you know they yankees will win this game.

  352. Mike S, July 5th, 2007 at 4:14 pm

    A modern-day miracle. Farnsworth(less) with a 1-2-3.

  353. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

Kyle had a 1-2-3 … Yanks have to win. Is this sign from the baseball Gods that they are done playing a joke on the Yankees???????

  354. Scott July 5th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

    best pitcher in baseball hahahaha

  355. saucy July 5th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

so who has more 1-2-3 innings so far this year, farnsworth or vizcy?

  356. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:15 pm

hahah my best friends name is alan hes a red sox fan… and idk if i still have those books but they were classics i hope my mom didnt sell them at a yard sale or something. when i visit home im asking her

  357. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

    ben from boston

I think it’s going to flop.

  358. BBB July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

Do my eyes and Gameday decieve me, or did Farnsy really just have a 1-2-3? 4th time this season HOLLA!!!

  359. Matthew July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

Goodness Gracious, of all the things I’ve seen on a baseball field in my life, Farnsy having a 1-2-3 ranks in the top 3.

  360. kidjock July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

WOW! This is a weird game. Yanks are still in it with Kei pitching gophers, but have a great chance to win. I want more E Ramirez

  361. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

is it just me or is jennifer a warrior i think she knows more than me about baseball… i bet shes a babe

  362. Ben July 5th, 2007 at 4:16 pm

Ok, guys top of the order. Let’s get some baserunners. Neshek has a crazy delivery.

  363. Jeff July 5th, 2007 at 4:17 pm

Peter must be so mad, he can’t bash Proctor and Farns today.

  364. mel July 5th, 2007 at 4:17 pm

    ben from Boston,

LOL, your comment was great, but even a dumb person knows how to spell ‘pacifier’. You know, like the movie?

  365. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:18 pm

rocco, they havent before so im kind of thinking that too. if this one doesnt flop the next has to. and if this flops the next has to rock. whos going to watch a show about a homeless superstar and his friends

  366. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:19 pm

am i the only one who at this point would rather have melky than damon? couldnt we get a good relief pitcher for him or is his contract too huge

  367. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:20 pm

haha oh that makes sense pace… pacifier… like peacifier.. sorry mel im wicked bad at spelling

  368. Colorado Yank July 5th, 2007 at 4:21 pm

this just in, Farnsworth saw the article that he could be shopped so in an effort to FINALLY, help the Yankees he has decided to start pitching so the trade will happen sooner.

Now THAT is helping the team.

  369. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 4:22 pm

    ben from boston

i bet its either going to flop at cannes and be good in theaters or be great in cannes and flop in the theater… I’m betting on the latter. It makes for better Entourage.

  370. BBFan July 5th, 2007 at 4:23 pm

Kyle may be turning it around just like Vizcaino.
    That would be great.

Also, Melky seems to be thriving in #2 slot. Hopefully they leve him there until he proves otherwise.

  371. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:24 pm

i like jeter in the 3-hole. i like tradition but its working so why not make a new one if it keeps working… cano, melky, jeter, a rod, matsui, posada, abreu, phillips/dougie, cairo… at this point id rather have cairo than damon. but to be fair damon is hurt

  372. Rocco July 5th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

    GODZILLA!!!

LOL if they win Farnsworth will get the W. HAHA

  373. saucy July 5th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

  379. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:26 pm

  381. mel July 5th, 2007 at 4:26 pm

    BBFan,

Maybe Clemens is working with Kyle, like Mo’s working with Luis. Maybe Roger & Mo have a bet on who’s pitcher will suck the least over the last half of the season.

    Go-Go-Godzilla!

  382. kidjock July 5th, 2007 at 4:26 pm

Did you see Godzilla flip the bat?

  407. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 4:35 pm

Oh my god I hate Derek Jeter’s defense.

  408. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:35 pm

i miss the 1-2-3 mariano days

  409. Locakes July 5th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Man, this stinks. Anyone have any doubts about what’s going to happen here? I guess Mariano has earned the right to lose the game but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch.

  410. Bob NJ July 5th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Is Matsui really enough of an upgrade over Damon for Joe to give up the DH? If those goes into extra innings, we’re at a significant disadvantage.

  411. Bill July 5th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

Farnsworth with a perfect 8th inning – but Mo is going to blow it in the 9th inning.

    Funny stuff.

  412. Rattachewy July 5th, 2007 at 4:37 pm

yes! maybe we’ll see Edwar afterall.

  413. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 4:38 pm

  416. ray July 5th, 2007 at 4:38 pm

The 1-2-3 Mariano days are over. He was once the best reliever in baseball and is still a good one…but he is not lights out like he used to be.

  431. Satan aka Redsox July 5th, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Quote from couple of F*g posters sosh

    http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.....ntry866144

    -glennhoffmania

Is that the first curtain call of the year? I really hate MFY fans.

    – FoulketoMinky

F*ck you and your all star blog Neshek.

    Joe D. Reed

They absolutely abuse the curtain call at Yankee Stadium. Your team is under .500, a**holes.

    PhabPhour20

Mats*ckme isn’t even an attractive person. Why should he get a curtain call?

    Trekfan55

I absolutely hate them, and I cannot understand that a pitcher who easily Ks the first 2 guys he faces, somehow loses all ability to throw a strike and promptly gives up a HR. And Rivera will face the lower half of a sucky Twins lineup.

    TheYaz67

Well, Neshek was appealing for Yankee fan votes, may have earned some more there. If Yankee fans know how to manipulate a computer, that is…

    BigSoxFan

The Twins had their chance against the Yankees’ crappy middle relief. They failed and the Yanks took advantage. Walking Jeter with nobody on is unacceptable. It’s not like the guy is going to hit a homer.

  432. Flipper July 5th, 2007 at 4:45 pm

We’re on pace to go 81-0 in the 2nd half.

  433. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:45 pm

haha please dont accuse me of something so low… i have been living in the lions den all of my life. I got suspended twice in highschool because of kids starting fights because i was wearing a yanks hat so no im not a sox fan at all

  434. Mike NYY July 5th, 2007 at 4:47 pm

    Well Neshek’s got my vote

  435. saucy July 5th, 2007 at 4:49 pm

i find it ridiculous that people feel the need to quote people from redsox boards over here.

but on the other hand, i read every one of them…

  436. mel July 5th, 2007 at 4:50 pm

    ben from Boston,

Is that what it’s like? The Yankee fan gets tossed even though the Boston fan starts the fight? I don’t know how you survived. Way to stand your ground.

  437. Satan aka Redsox July 5th, 2007 at 4:50 pm

    TheoSmeo

Haven’t been following along with the game thread but two points: (1) kill yourself Pat Neshek — way to fall apart with Jeter and then Matsui and (2) the YES announcing crew has ZERO credibility when it comes to Jeter…they made three or four excuses without stating the obvious — that he sucks defensively…what clowns.

Disappointing that the Twins couldn’t push across the tying run but it’s nice to see the MFYs have to work so hard against a midling team for the win and it’s nice to see Rivera continue to muddle through.

  438. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:50 pm

everyone vote for okajima so he gets tired at the all star break. hey laugh all you want one more start!!! maybe he gets injured

  439. Mehdi July 5th, 2007 at 4:51 pm

I made the horrible mistake of reading the Yankees game thread on SoSH. I will never make that mistake again. It’s filled with the most inane chatter and horrible puns. Their wits are as sharp as a butter knife. I feel dirty, I’m gonna go take a shower. Good win today.

  440. jennifer July 5th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

    raising hand!!!

  441. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

mel im not a martyr or anything lol just my principal was a SAWX fan. when i was little my dad and i would go to sox-anks games (hes a sox fan) id be cheering up a storm for the yanks. if it werent for her i would have gotten my ass kicked. mind you this was when i was really little but when those bostonians get beer in them and the dropkick murphys start playing… uh oh

  442. Rattachewy July 5th, 2007 at 4:52 pm

here’s hoping we will see Edwar tomorrow. I’m predicting he’ll strike out the side on 8 pitches this time!

  443. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 4:53 pm

    jennifer is my homie

  444. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 4:54 pm

Thanks to Matsui for breaking the tie game and the win.

Question? Unbelievable Farnsworth pitching gets credit for with win. He should document this win for his resume.

  445. YankeesLuv July 5th, 2007 at 4:54 pm

thank goodness the Yankees won this. Jeter should have had that ball for atleast one out but we won.

  446. FlashRadical July 5th, 2007 at 4:58 pm

    FlashRadical
I can’t wait till Jeter is in his late 30′s and still playing shortstop with absolutely no range. He will probably cost his team 50 runs in the field yet will still play SS because he wins gold gloves.

  447. TKinDC July 5th, 2007 at 4:59 pm

Nice ERA for Kei (misnomer) Igawa = 7.14

Ugh, I don’t know that we have a better option (sorry Joba and IK fans, too early)

I guess Cashman is “pot committed” on Kei – we can only hope he pulls his head out of his rectum.

  448. kasey July 5th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

hey, so maybe batting matsui clean-up wasn’t such a colossal error, huh?

    who knew?

  449. T.J. July 5th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

Hope we can hold the Angels this weekend the way the Rangers held the last two games. If Rangers get the sweep over the Angles today, it could be a good thing for how we play them this weekend. They seem to have lost a little steam. I hope this may be the case. Just wishful thinking. LOl

  450. Marius July 5th, 2007 at 5:02 pm

Alrighty then. I love to see the whining on here about how the Yanks.
The Yankees won the series 3 – 1 against a team with a better record and a tougher division and with much better pitching up and down.
The Yankees won a game with Kei Igawa pitching.
The Yankees won cause of Matsui, so stop the whine fest about him. He isn’t too far off of what he usually does. He has the 2nd most HR’s and RBI’s, trailing behind only A-Rod.
The Yankees won without A-Rod for pretty much this whole series. He hasn’t had a hit when he was playing.

The Yankees can win. Stop the whine fest and appreciate what they did this series, cause it’s huge. Especially the bullpen in each of the 3 games won.

  451. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 5:05 pm

ben from Boston….you are my Hero…seriously….Have a great night, ALL ! NICE Series ultimately for the Yankees…Let’s sweep the Dastardly Angels….THEY DESERVE IT !!!

  452. BBB July 5th, 2007 at 5:06 pm

    mel said…
“Maybe Clemens is working with Kyle, like Mo’s working with Luis. Maybe Roger & Mo have a bet on who’s pitcher will suck the least over the last half of the season.”

LMAO! Maybe I’m just giddy from no sleep, lots of work, and a great win, but I almost snarfed coffee envisioning the above actually occurring.

Great game! Matsui bustin’ the slump and picking up his fellow countryman in one swing of the bat.. life is good right now!

  453. BBB July 5th, 2007 at 5:13 pm

Wow, those SOSH posts are cracking me up! “Matsui is too unattractive for a curtain call”…says the guy in a Kevin Youkilis jersey?!? Oh the irony…it’s like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife… ;)

I cannot believe how closely they follow Yankee games. God help me if I ever expend that much energy on a team I hate! Anyway, nice to see the inferiority complex is alive and well! Heh.

Also, having skimmed all the posts…Ben from Boston, as a Giants fan in Philly who can barely even handle 17 weeks of football season, I tip my cap to you. Keep representin…wear that Yankee hat loud and proud!

  454. ben from boston July 5th, 2007 at 5:14 pm

alan youre a jerk… have a great night

  455. kasey July 5th, 2007 at 5:15 pm

doesn’t matter how the angles are playing coming in to the series this weekend. they always play the yankees tough.

  456. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 5:26 pm

Holly mollie…Your pen pitches well and you win what a concept.
Kyle got his 4th clean inning of the yr. only 2 BB’s fro mthe pen..
ggod win, just win series and they would be fine…

No let’s argue of posada vs Matsui in the order instead of how to improve there achilles heal..That is there pen…

Boston troll morons worry over curtain calls, watch your own homer channel and leave us alone.. who gives a grap…

Yeah Matsui shows up guys like the classy manny and the gang and hoodlums…..

  457. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 5:28 pm

yea Mariano lost it with the 1 WHIP… He is terrible, and Okajima will keep it up also!!!!

I have some beachfront property in Vegas interested in buying some?????????///

    Took 3 out of 4 against a good team… good series….

  458. jp July 5th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

i think the yankees should drop igawa from the rotation and bring up joba. face the facts cashmoney: igawa was a complete bust, a moronic move in response to the sox getting dice k, it is time to cut bait and bring up joba who was hitting 97 while striking out 12 in six innings last night

  459. mel July 5th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

    Curt Shellacking,

Thanks for the great article. That’s great that the two pitchers are good friends. Sound familiar? Two peas in a pod, just like the Roger & Andy Show. I also think it’s great that Joba stays true to who he really is (as a Native American). Seeing Kennedy pitch against my school in 2006, I can say he was definitely an All-American. Hope their potential translates well in the bigs.

  460. Stuart July 5th, 2007 at 5:32 pm

Joba is not ready yet.. He is young and needs more seasoning..
Igawa hopefully only has 3 more starts and then Mr. Hughes will be back..
Hughes should hang out with Clemens when he gets back….

  461. I LOVE Giambi! July 5th, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Maybe we should groom little Mo to take over for old mo now, as old mo has lost the plot.

  462. Alan July 5th, 2007 at 5:37 pm

Ben…I was NOT being a smart alec. Being from Boston and being a New York fan,,I DO ADMIRE THAT….Put your sword away…I am being sincere !

  463. mel July 5th, 2007 at 5:44 pm

When Little Mo takes off his glasses, he looks like Cano with a 15 yr. old body. His postgame interview at yes.com was really cute. He knew he might be facing the AL MVP, but he didn’t want to know who it was.

  464. PhilHughesFan July 5th, 2007 at 5:45 pm

Hughes is making his first rehab start on Monday….. YEPPY !!!PhilMANIA !!!!

  465. Holy Priest July 5th, 2007 at 5:49 pm

The Forces of Evil are winning in their respective divisions. Teams like Indians, Angels, and Redsox will made the playoffs if the season ended today t . I hate their uniform colors which basically are all red and hey’re servants of darkness. The Tigers only team represent the good side.

  466. gargoyle July 5th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

You have to laugh at Red Sox fans who are obsessed with a team that trails them by 11 games in the standings.

    We will lawys own them.

  467. Rich July 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

gargoyle- this after your comrades are posting quotes from a sox board…. sheesh.
