Rotation for after the break
The Yankees announced their rotation for the Tampa series after the All-Star break.
It will be Andy Pettitte, Roger Clemens, Chien-Ming Wang and Mike Mussina.
So Pettitte gets five days off, Clemens five days off, Wang six days off and the Moose a robust 10 days off.
No word on whether Kei Igawa will chuck on July 16 against the Blue Jays at home.

That’s WAY too much rest for Moose…
If Igawa is slated to pitch on the 16th…give me plenty of notice…I will fly to NY, run out to the mound and tackle him ( I am joking of course,,,but he needs to go…Can’t we trade him for a 5th string catcher ??? )
actaully 5 days rest for Wang also, from the 8th to the 14th. this keeps the top 3 guys on close to normal rest, makes sense.
What does that mean “No on” Igawa? Is it that the Yankees plan to start one of the kids (DeSalvo, Clippard, Wright) again? I can’t imagine Hughes will be ready by then?
Phil Hughes !
No [word] on
Alan Horne on the 16th perhaps?
actually….let ME pitch on the 16th….WHEN TORRE sees how bad I am….he MAY even take me out before I give up 10 runs…I promise NOT to wear sunglasses, either !
Ill pitch with my 69 MPH fastball.
I can already hear the excuses rolling from Moose. Maybe he should throw a simulated game in between?
Those punks at metsblog.com are rigging the election to claim that Keith Hernandez has a better mustache than Goose Gossage.
i just voted for Goose but he needs help. right the ship!
http://weblogs.newsday.com/spo....._four.html
Uh oh, Moose pitching on ten days rest?
This does not bode well for the Yankees.
“No word on whether Kei Igawa will chuck on July 16 against the Blue Jays at home.”
No word on whether ARod will take one in the ear for yelling Mine.
Maybe they can give Moose the rest of his career off
Why don’t we promote Raul Chavez so he can take Nieves’ job? He is actually hitting the baseball. I hope Kei isn’t pitching against Toronto. Toronto will light him up like a firecracker. Seriously, give me Clippard, DeSalvo, Alan Horne, Ross Ohlendorf, or someone else.
wang should get the 10 days off to heal the blisters and split nail on his finger, so wang can be 100% for the second half of the season.
1. coming home after work and reading the game thread was hilarious. pete, between the proctor/farnsworth update and the murray chass line, you brought your A game tonight. fantastic.
2. for andy pettitte to question his teammates’ desire (in a roundabout way) and then throw down back-to-back putrid performances is ridiculous. i’m a huge pettitte fan, but he better think twice before making ambiguous remarks about anybody’s performance from now on. he made kei igawa look like johan santana. it’s great that they battled and won and everything, that’s a really light and fluffy feel-good win, but pettitte needs to get his act together ASAP. for any pitcher – let alone a veteran pitcher – to cough up leads as quickly and pitifully as pettitte did tonight is inexcusable. couple that with the insurmountable hole he put them in against oakland and you can go ahead and call it even for all of those starts where he pitched well but got no run support.
3. edwar ramirez is what he is. great story, hopefully he finds success, but there’s probably a reason he was release twice by the same team. he’s got to have something to set up that change. without another decent pitch, he’s going to end up throwing BP out there. i think we’re all hoping he does well.
4. i hope kei igawa does pitch on july 16. in tampa. enough is enough with this guy. sign one of pettitte’s kids if you have to, just please stop pretending igawa “has what it takes.” continuing the charade is only going to further embarrass igawa and cashman. he’s not a “project,” he’s a reject. (sorry, that was awful.)
5. michael kay’s fine. if you really think otherwise, listen to ken “hawk” harrelson call a game.
good win, i guess. they fought back against a team that usually has their number. tough to be too thrilled with it, though, when pettitte looked as awful as he did out there.
Let Igawa pitch anyway but in the majors – just a bad experiment that did not work out.
I asked this question on another blog; can Igawa be traded back to a Japanese team? He’s apparently highly thought of there. If the Yanks management now agree that’s he’s a mistake and nothing more than a AAA-AAAA pitcher, why not trade him to a Japanese team that needs pitching? Perhaps the Yanks can get a decent prospect back that can be farmed out with the hope of one day making it to the Show. Considering the lack of belief everyone has in his potential, what do the Yankees have to lose?
No, Igawa can’t be traded to Japan.
Like it or not, the Yanks are stuck with him.
I would imagine that there will be some trade interest in Mike Mussina.
The experiment with Igawa continues. Ugh! Since when is the big leagues a place to experiment ? Torre thinks Igawa needs to find his command. Up to now he hasn’t found it so why not let him (experiment) in Tampa and work his way up which should have been done in the first place. On top of it all, he next pitches against the Blue Jays. Vernon Wells & Co. must be salivating at the thought of fattening up their batting averages against Igawa.
I agree with E-Roc. If Cashman is not interested in finding a backup catcher instead of the weak Wil Nieves, at least tap AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and bring up Raul Chavez who was one of the last cuts in spring training and has an idea of the pitching staff. Never mind what Mussina thinks about a personal catcher.
It would be good if the Yankees had an available starter to rapidly replace Igawa, aka Mr. Sunglasses, at AAA, so Mr. Sunglasses can go down to Tampa and “hone his craft”.
I believe one of two things; either the Yankees brain-trust is giving Igawa the 5th slot until Hughes works his way back from the DL, or give him maybe 1 more start, and then they’ll have to resort back to Desalvo or Clippard.
WE need to give up on Kei Igawa, Phil Hughes looks great and should be healthy again, make the move Boss!!!!
Why is he giving Mike so much rest? Is he hurting? I don’t get it. The most fikle guy in your rotation you give 10 days off to? Or is it just a matter of setting up your rotation the way you want?
Mussina is going to have 10 days off between starts. In other words, he has a built in excuse if his next start goes badly. The guy is a hypocondriac.
I thought Pete was at his best last night. Great job! I hope Pete doesn’t mind, but I’m stealing the “Sparky Proctor” moniker. It’s perfect!
Only 7 games out in the loss column for the wild card! Go Yanks!!

Kei location: Torre said Kei Igawa is still in the Yankees’ rotation as the fifth starter after struggling in Thursday’s win over the Twins, but the skipper doesn’t plan to start the left-hander again until well after the Midsummer Classic.
“He’ll be at the end of the line,” Torre said.
The thing about Igawa is that there appears to nothing worth salvaging there. There’s no potential. No velocity. No movement. It’s hard to even figure out what he’s throwing.
He’s bad and he always will be.
Perhaps Kei Igawa could earn his keep by becoming the Yankees’ batting practice pitcher for the next 4 years. He’d be great for instilling confidence in our hitters!
I read that SI.com said Hicks want’s Arod back in Texas? What the heck is that about?
You think with kei igawas money he could afford to get braces to match his glasses. Maybe he can go hollywood and star in a film somthing called, “The Beaver Goes To The Bronx And Eats Lousiville Wood” just a thought.
Maybe Mike Mussina can become the spokeperson for insomniacs. Can’t sleep? Watch me pitch, it’s hypnotic. Just ask those playing behind him.
Also, if Wil Nieves can find that missing ‘L’ in his first name, we might be on to something.
Can someone tell Mariano Rivera that he has my permission to start using his change-up? Pride Kills.
On a last note, Torre needs to join the Spaniards in the annual running of the bulls, then maybe he will see what it is like to be motivated again!!!!
Hey, the Yankees have apparently signed Erubial Durazo:
http://pinstripespa.blogspot.c.....urazo.html
MikeDog-
You are certainly entitled to your opinions about the performances of the Yankees’ players. But, please tell me where someone’s appearance has anything to do with their ability?
“J.R. House exercised an out-clause in his contract and has left the Orioles organization.
House, who was hitting .296 with seven home runs and 48 RBIs for Triple-A Norfolk this season, had an opt-out clause that gave him his release if he wasn’t on the major league roster by July 1. Even though his arm isn’t fantastic, he will likely sign on with another team quickly.”
I hope he did this to come to the Yankees. It’d be nice to have a youngish backup catcher who can hit. Mussina would just have to deal (which we all know he doesn’t do well), but we need offense when Jorge is on the bench.
MikeDOg:
It’s not Amateur Night at Catch a Rising Star. Very uncool making fun of Kei’s looks.
I don’t get it. Why go and sign Erubio Durazo when you have Shelley Duncan in the minors??? I don’t like it. But it looks as though that’s happened or is happening. I know Shelley has holes in his swing but he has 20 something homers. Doesn’t that count for something?! I don’t know how Durazo is going to get his ABs. Damon is playing the super-utility role somewhat (1b/OF) and Andy Phillips is holding his own at 1B (can play 3B or 2B too). Anyway, I like Iggy, but his mechanics are screwed. He can’t pitch out of the stretch or with runners on. I do think he can be salvaged so that’s why we should trade him to the Cardinals, lol.
But I don’t think that’s going to happen so look for him to be down in Scranton or with the pitching gurus down on the farm. Also, look for somebody in the ‘pen to be gone very soon like Myers. We need a position player badly.
It was a joke. Nothing more, a joke. Lighten up, no pun intended. Heh.
However, Kei Igawa’s arm is uglier than his mug.
I interviewed Kei a few weeks ago actually, Mike Dog. And while he was a nice enough guy in person (as was his interpreter) his teeth are awful-not that something as trivial as dental hygiene detract from one’s personality.
Anway, on the topic of Igawa, I think the Yankees should explore using him in a bullpen role, it may add some mph to his fastball and give him some confidence if he thrives there.

Joe L – I hope Cash notices JR House. I would be a nice “under the radar” addition to the team.
How could Joe Torre say, “I don’t think Sheff would have helped us this year, he wasn’t here last year and we did alright”. WTF? He is desparate for a #3 hitter, everyone knows it!!!! Sheff didn’t help this team last year, true.. but everyone was hitting! I have said it a thousand times, pitchers feared Sheff, he is always dangerous. His presence alone offers a whole new dynamic in the line-up! Just as the Detroit Tigers.
Joe is an idiot. He just didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes.
As far him using Nieves and for the third time this year, removing a second bat at the same time…granted Abreu’s needs some cottling, but taking him out everytime Nieves is catching is just stupid.
Go Joe!! Show us what you got!! Other then your butt cheeks imprint on the bench. We know you only get off it when you absolutely have to. Show some moxy, and maybe your team will too.
I think Durazo is to strengthen the bench and be a spot starter. From what I remember, he was one of the OPS on base guys and those guys seem to get the roster spots over power hitters who strike out i.e. Duncan. Not to mention, I don’t think Shelley Duncan plays 1b. Am I wrong?
I think I take back my idea of signing this JR House kid. After reading some more about him, it seems he can barely throw the ball back to the pitcher’s mound. He apparently has a terrible terrible arm.
What would you take? Nieves or a backup C who could hit the ball but couldn’t throw runners out? At least Nieves at first could throw a guy out….if his defense stays as poor as it’s been, he’s worthless though.
sorry about all the speeeeling mistakes. I am allergic to the proper english grammar.
I would have kept Sal Fasano over Wil. Although Sal was nicknamed “Mr. Noodle” by my girlfriend, I appreciated his heart. He played really hard.
“Why go and sign Erubio Durazo when you have Shelley Duncan in the minors??? I don’t like it. But it looks as though that’s happened or is happening. I know Shelley has holes in his swing but he has 20 something homers. Doesn’t that count for something?!”
come on. Durazo has an .868 OPS in almost 2000 MAJOR LEAGUE ABs. i don’t know if he can contribute b/c he is always injured, but if he were healthy you are going to pass up on a guy who has a *higher* career OPS than Derek Jeter b/c of Shelly Duncan?
i would like to see Duncan get his shot, but his coaches told Cashman he is not ready. if they don’t think he is ready, picking up Durazo is a fantastic move. of course, they had Durazo last year but he never got healthy, so i’m skeptical that he’ll amount to anything.
Everyone needs to stop with the meme of “There’s a reason [Edwar] was released.” Yes, he had mediocre stuff. He now has a ridiculous changeup that he didn’t have with the Angels. Any team would be horrendously stupid to release a guy like that. No one’s giving him the Cy Young, but he just put up ridiculous, ridiculous numbers in the minors. It would be an outlier if he didn’t at least stick in the majors.
MikeDOG – Calm down man. What did you think Torre was going to say about a player who ain’t here? He was trying to give his lineup a vote of confidence that they can overcome their struggles. So u fault him for that?? Sheff didn’t want to be here because he thought Torre disrespected him during last year’s playoffs because he didn’t play him in one of those games. Also, he told Cash and Torre that he didn’t want to play first base and we knew Abreu was an upgrade in the outfield and Giambi was the DH. So there was no place for him. You know how Sheff holds grudges.
Joe L – I don’t know if we should pick up JR House if his defense isn’t up to par. He does have a bat though. That’s a tough call, I guess. We can still sign him and give him a shot. If it doesn’t work out, we can turn to Raul Chavez.
“Abreu was an upgrade in the outfield”
I don’t remember Sheff ever falling to pieces like Bobby has this year. Lately he has been better but c’mon he is dead wood and balls over his head in the outfield this year. I guess hindsight’s is 20/20 but I opposed trading Sheff all along. We could’ve have DH’d him and rotated Giambi at first. No matter which way you look at it, We were dumb letting go of sheff in my opinion. Now look, no Giambi — big surprise — and no firstbaseman…. but what do I know??
Bobby Stats:
.261 5hr 40RBI
Sheff:
.302 20HR 56RBI
Enough Said..
MikeDOG – Sheff was disgruntled veteran. I’m quite sure you know what Sheff does when he isn’t happy. At least we got something in the trade. Thanx for throwing out the stats, lol. Sheffield didn’t want to be our firstbaseman. Torre thought it would extend his career if he played there. He said no and wanted to play in the outfield but Abreu was there. So we pick up his option and trade him to the Tigers for Sanchez, Claggett, & Whelan. Not bad.
hmmm – I’m not saying we should pass up on him. I’m just saying that Shelley is right there waiting for them. I know that they know he has holes in his swing but he does have power from the right side. He can play first/outfield but he’d be a DH at the ML level.
“NEW YORK — Gary Sheffield is angry that the New York Yankees plan to exercise his $13 million option for next season rather than allow him to become a free agent.
“This will not work, this will not work at all,” he was quoted as saying in Thursday’s editions. “I don’t want to play first base a year for them. I will not do that.” ”
http://cbs.sportsline.com/mlb/story/9754796
MikeDog, Sheff is a DH. He is nearly incapable of playing RF anymore.
“I’m not saying we should pass up on him. I’m just saying that Shelley is right there waiting for them.”
i understand. but Durazo has raked for 2000 ABs in the MAJORS. there is no way Duncan will come up and outhit a healthy Durazo.
of course “healthy Durazo” is an oxymoron.
either way, it’s a shrewd pickup by Cashman.
the Yankees could use sheff, it’s hard to deny that.
but unfortunately for the Yankees, he and matsui got hurt last year. they needed abreu.
and unfortunately for the Yankees, Steinbrenner thought it was a good idea to give a SEVEN year contract with a full NTC to a slow, lead-gloved 1Bman. those guys never age well, especially the ones who take tons of steroids.
Giambi was unmovable. Abreu was on the team. Sheff refused to learn 1B. something had to give.
I believe the 16th would be Al Horne’s regular turn in the rotation; He pitched last night in Trenton…I really hope we see him this year. He features a mid-ninties fastball and a power curve. Hopefully we get to see him on the 16th and not Igawa.
