I believe the 16th would be Al Horne’s regular turn in the rotation; He pitched last night in Trenton…I really hope we see him this year. He features a mid-ninties fastball and a power curve. Hopefully we get to see him on the 16th and not Igawa.

the Yankees could use sheff, it’s hard to deny that.

but unfortunately for the Yankees, he and matsui got hurt last year. they needed abreu.

and unfortunately for the Yankees, Steinbrenner thought it was a good idea to give a SEVEN year contract with a full NTC to a slow, lead-gloved 1Bman. those guys never age well, especially the ones who take tons of steroids.

Giambi was unmovable. Abreu was on the team. Sheff refused to learn 1B. something had to give.

i understand. but Durazo has raked for 2000 ABs in the MAJORS. there is no way Duncan will come up and outhit a healthy Durazo.

of course “healthy Durazo” is an oxymoron.

either way, it’s a shrewd pickup by Cashman.

hmmm – I’m not saying we should pass up on him. I’m just saying that Shelley is right there waiting for them. I know that they know he has holes in his swing but he does have power from the right side. He can play first/outfield but he’d be a DH at the ML level.

MikeDOG – Sheff was disgruntled veteran. I’m quite sure you know what Sheff does when he isn’t happy. At least we got something in the trade. Thanx for throwing out the stats, lol. Sheffield didn’t want to be our firstbaseman. Torre thought it would extend his career if he played there. He said no and wanted to play in the outfield but Abreu was there. So we pick up his option and trade him to the Tigers for Sanchez, Claggett, & Whelan. Not bad.

I don’t remember Sheff ever falling to pieces like Bobby has this year. Lately he has been better but c’mon he is dead wood and balls over his head in the outfield this year. I guess hindsight’s is 20/20 but I opposed trading Sheff all along. We could’ve have DH’d him and rotated Giambi at first. No matter which way you look at it, We were dumb letting go of sheff in my opinion. Now look, no Giambi — big surprise — and no firstbaseman…. but what do I know??

Joe L – I don’t know if we should pick up JR House if his defense isn’t up to par. He does have a bat though. That’s a tough call, I guess. We can still sign him and give him a shot. If it doesn’t work out, we can turn to Raul Chavez.

MikeDOG – Calm down man. What did you think Torre was going to say about a player who ain’t here? He was trying to give his lineup a vote of confidence that they can overcome their struggles. So u fault him for that?? Sheff didn’t want to be here because he thought Torre disrespected him during last year’s playoffs because he didn’t play him in one of those games. Also, he told Cash and Torre that he didn’t want to play first base and we knew Abreu was an upgrade in the outfield and Giambi was the DH. So there was no place for him. You know how Sheff holds grudges.
