The Yankees don’t have to report until 11:30 today. But the clubhouse opens to the media at 9:35.
Not much going on today. The usual guys who workout before games (Mike Myers, Scott Proctor) along with Phil Hughes and Jeff Karstens, who are in town to throw before heading to Scranton.
So there was plenty of room for Ron Guidry to work on his golf game.
The Gator set up two paper cups about 40 feet apart and was putting at 10 a.m. He said he was getting ready for Joe Torre’s charity tournament, which will be July 30.
As golfers go, Guidry is a heck of a pitching coach. He was leaving a lot of putts short. Now if that happened with one of my buddies, one of us would have said, “Hey, does your husband play Sally?” But I bit my tongue.
As Guidry worked on his stroke, he was cursing his misses and getting laughs out of Larry Bowa.
Just another day covering baseball.
