Signs, signs, everywhere were signs for Chien-Ming Wang. But he and the Yankees couldn’t hold a lead and lost to Toronto.

Johnny Damon can’t buy a hit. This notebook also has updates on Phil Hughes, Jeff Karstens and Hideki Matsui.

I am working from home today but intrepid Brian Heyman will be in the Bronx and we will get a lineup posted when it’s available.

Ughh still so long until game time. Nothing to do today.

  2. Alan

Today we start another streak….in our next 8 games, we will win at least 6 !….The bats will wake up today…looking at our next 18 games,,,I see 15-3 ! GO YANKEES !!! Tell me how crazy it will be to roll into Toronto on August 6th as the division leaders ! BoSox are doing their part too…another loss last night to the Happless White Sox….there is JOY in YANKEE LAND !

  3. InsertNewSN

I’m working until 5, but that doesn’t stop me from checking every half hour or so if Pete or prosportsdaily.com have updated their yankee news/rumors. I can’t get enough.

  4. Todd Drew

    Peter,
Good lead on your game story.

  5. mel

I can’t believe what I just saw on t.v. Watching an extreme sports show and they showed a minor league brawl involving Izzy Alcantara of the Pawtucket Red Sox & SWB Red Barons (Phillies?). He got hit by a pitch and then karate kicked the crouching catcher. Went crazy and then got beat up by the Barons. Do you guys remember that from 2001? Wild.

  6. Josh

I remember hearing about it, I never did see it though.

  7. mel

    Josh,

    For your viewing displeasure:

  8. Josh

    Thank you very much Mel.

  9. Josh

Oh man, that is priceless. Gotta give the guy credit, people won’t ever forget about that outburst!

  10. chris in fairfield

the beantown bum fans at work today are complaining that dice-k was squeezed last night . i was listening to the red sox radio station on the internet today and theyre hot for mark tiexiera and a corner outfielder . maybe getting brad lidge too . redsox are 20-22 since june 1 . yanks have to take advantage of the d’rays . only another 3 of 4 series win will do .

  11. E-ROC

Mel, LMAO, nice vid. That guy must have went over that move a couple of times in his head. He had good form too. That’s just hilarious!!!

  12. Josh

I think it’s going to come down to who does better at the trade deadline. Houston has already said Lidge isn’t going anywhere, so you can forget about those rumors. Teixeira is definitely in play but they will have to part with some major young talent, maybe even Bucholz.

They’ve got a much better chance to make deadline deals than us though. Cashman doesn’t seem like he’s going to get much at the deadline.

  13. mel

    E-ROC,

I did a little reading about the brawl and apparently he had hit 2 homers earlier off another pitcher and had admired them as they left the park (sound familiar?). So he knew it was coming. Out of the majors since 2003. Probably teaching karate somewhere. LOL.

  14. bleeckerandsullivan.com

.. how many more years do we have damon for!?! dont know how much more we can take of this guy..

  15. E-ROC

    bleeckerandsullivan.com–2 years..

  16. Josh

    Only 2 more years!

  17. E-ROC

Mel–The guy jumped into the kick to add some more force, still LMAO.

very funny article. I just found it on a message board and they were flipping out. I guess they are all very young and don’t know sarcasim when it smacks them in the face.

  19. Yanksrule57

Let’s not get too overconfident out there. Edwin Jackson pitched very well for 4 innings last time against the Yanks until he inexplicably blew up. He has good stuff but lacks experience (he is a converted outfielder). Also the Moose of 2007 is not the Moose of the past. And have you looked at who is pitching for us Saturday? Yikes! Igawa and De Salvo, not exactly Maddux and Glavine. 3 out of 4 this weekend would be great!

  20. Stuart

I missed it Mike and the maddog send Shelly Duncan is coming up for whom???

WHo are they sending down?/Ramirez??/That would suck

  21. jennifer

Hey stuart didn’t I tell you. Maybe I was wrong about who is gone for.

  22. pat

Mike said he didn’t know who was going down but Dauncan is coming up per Sweeney.

  23. Stuart

I did not hear who is gone someone was talking.. Can someone update us.. If it is Ramirez I will be really pissed..Villone, myers, etc are friggin jokes…

please tell us the roster move…

  24. Stuart

thanks pat…. hopefully they will act like every other team and not check birthcertificates and when the older guy stinks dump them………………

  25. mel

It’s going to be the rookie. Even though it doesn’t make sense to us fans, you don’t just send down veterans. Just like you don’t sit a healthy Damon or have Posada pinch hit for Cano for the final out. Players are already wary of the media, do you think they’ll want to come here if the club mistreats veterans?

  26. pat

How aboutThompson? Damon becomes back-up outfielder if Duncan DH’s.

  27. E-ROC

I think Ramirez will be the going back down to Scranton to make room for DeSalvo. Duncan may come up after the doubleheader.

  28. Stuart

Baloney Mel.. Does villone, myers, farnsworth deserve to play????

NO no no…Did Ramirez get a fair shake???That is right he needs to improve on his 3″s in AAA.. A .50 WHIP and 1.5 K’s per inning is just not good enough/……

FRIGGIN JOKE… SCREW VILLONE, FARNSWORTH AND THE CREW…mmaybe IF THEY THREW A COUPLE OF STRIKES i WOULD THINK DIFFERENTLY..

    BOGUS

  29. mel

    Pat,

Do you think they’ll hold onto Thompson if they’re not sure about Melky? He looked really uncomfortable yesterday.

  30. Jim Johnson

    Shelly Ducan just got promoted.

I assume he’s going to be taking Damon’s spot while he works his swing out.

    http://mvn.com/mlb-yankees/200.....e-on-down/

  31. Josh

I hope he’s taking Damon’s spot until he gets his head back on straight.

  32. mel

    Stuart,

I’m not saying they deserve to play. I cringe as much as you when they come waddling out of the bullpen. I’m just saying that you don’t just kick veterans to the curb in bunches. Unfortunately, the Jeters, Wangs, and Bradys of the world sometimes have to wait until there’s an injury to get their chance.

  33. Doreen

Well, all of you who were advocating for Shelley Duncan have your wish. :)

Ramirez will probably get sent down temporarily for DeSalvo; but they’ll have to send someone else down for Duncan. The only candidate for that is Thompson. Unless they’re also going to DL Damon, but I think that would have been part of the news.

I have my doubts that Shelley will hit ML hitting, but, I sure hope I’m wrong!

  34. Stinky50

I could also save 20 minutes a day commuting. ,
