Joe Tore jokingly gave Robinson Cano the lineup card after the game in honor of his career-best three walks.

Cano said he has working on his pitch selection with hitting coach Kevin Long and agreed that the three walks are a good sign. Then again, three walks are 14 percent of the walks he has had all season (21).

Another good sign is that the Yankees won won a season-best four straight on the road, albeit against the Devil Rays and Royals.

Updated AL wild card standings
Indians 58-42
Mariners 54-44 -3
Yankees 53-46 -4.5
