Randy Johnson done for season

Just learned that Randy Johnson has decided to have season-ending back surgery. No word on when – or if – he will return.

That trade certainly looks like a brilliant move by Brian Cashman, regardless of whether any of the prospects work out. Luis Vizcaino and the salary dump alone were a great return.

    3 words, greatest trade ever.

Cash gets bashed too much. Now he needs the kudos. GREAT MOVE !

It was a very good move regardless of Johnson’s health. Aside from gaining Vizcaino, the team got rid of his surly attitude. He always seemed to be miserable in New York. When is Mussina’s contract up?

one more year of the moose slop

Let’s put it this way: from a $$$ standpoint, the Yankees “traded” RJ for Pettitte, and signed a $3MM reliever (Vizcaino).

    That’s a very good trade….

Now if Cash can just pull off some deal to get rid of Igawa…

  7. Joeysdadjoe July 27th, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Maybe Pags would be kind enough to re-grade Cash on that one?

  8. Chicago Dave July 27th, 2007 at 7:29 pm

Who cares what Pags thinks? The guy is a drunken idiot…

According to Buster there are a few teams interested in Kei. boggles my mind, but if Cash could get rid of him…WOW

Well, he is a native Japanese speaker. Perhaps he has value as an interpreter for real Japanese major leaguers such as Ichiro and Johjima up in Seattle…

Oh, wait, Igawa’s English is almost non-existent…so scratch that whole interpreter thing! ;)

Wow, Mo looking pretty shaky tonight… It would suck to lose this game!

  12. KAJ July 27th, 2007 at 7:38 pm

    BALL GAME !

  13. Chicago Dave July 27th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

Phew…That was a close one! Still, nice that we finally put this one in the bank…

  14. KAJ July 27th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

super play by Cano and great instincts to NOT make the throw…

Wonder what Mike Pagliarulo has to say now? I always liked that deal, and now even more. Arizona picked up a lot of salary for this year, lost a serviceable -at least – reliever, and a potential ML starter in Ohlendorf. (Who knows about Jackson and Gonzalez?) And for what? If they thought that RJ was going to be there for them, they were very mistaken.

Tampa up 1-0 and still threatening against the man who’s main pitch is an Okey Doke…bases loaded…2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd…the “Wake Me Up when your done” pitcher does NOT have it 2nite !

    JRVJ:

I think that’s the best way to look at it. The Yankees essentially got Andy with the money saved on Randy.

    And I’ll even propose this…

Signing Andy + Trading Randy = Roger?

Maybe not but it couldn’t have hurt and I’m sure Cashman and pretty much everybody else in the Yankees organization considered this.

Not to bash on Pags too much, but that whole “report” seemed to be a not-so-subtle argument for the Yanks to hire consultants like himself (and his partner, I guess). (On second thought, maybe he was right about the need for Japanese consultants.)

How much money did Arizona spend to reacquire Johnson? The current ownership was mad enough at Colangelo for spending money they changed the uniforms out of spite.

  20. TonyC July 27th, 2007 at 8:45 pm

    looks like the incubus

  21. Jones July 27th, 2007 at 9:09 pm

Brilliant move? Let’s not forget who signed him in the first place.

  22. 2007 Yankees July 27th, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Sometimes things come full circle. Arizona ROBBED the Yankees when they traded him to the Yankees. The Yankees forked over too many players plus $17 million cash.
It’s nice to see that the money the Yankees GAVE Arizona still won’t be enough to cover the extension that Arizona gave RJ this past Winter.

  23. jennifer July 27th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

You don’t think that Randy will retire? I can’t see him holding up the D-backs for that money.

Better work on revising that myspace blog, eh Pags?
