Trade deadline less than a day away

Peter Abraham
July
30

Here is what is going down as the clock ticks:

2B Luis Castillo will go from the Twins to Mets for two prospects pending a medical review

RHP Kyle Lohse to the Phillies for LHP Matt Maloney. Done deal.

OF Jermaine Dye from the White Sox to the Red Sox seems to be losing steam.

RHP Octavio Dotel could end up with the Braves.

As for the Yankees, they remain very much in the mix for RHP Eric Gagne, I’m told. But after getting a good deal for Mark Teixeira, Jon Daniels is holding out for as much as he can get.

Back with more later.

  1. kasey

thanks for the info, pete. saves me from having to watch ESPN, which i refuse to do during baseball season.

  2. jon

I think we won’t get Gagne without trading Kennedy. I’m wondering why we don’t try to get them interested in Farnsworth, and pay as much of his salary as needed next year.

Clippard, Marquez, Farnsworth, and $5M for Gagne. Thoughts?

  3. dontfirecash

No point in trading Clippard now, IMO. His value is at its lowest point right now. I would let Clippard build his confidence back in AA and try and move him in the offseason.

  4. jon

Ok, agreed, but who else for Gagne? I’ve read that Texas did like Clippard.

  5. CW

All I ask the Yanks is: PLEASE DON’T PART WITH MELKY OR THE YOUNG EXCELLENT ARMS FOR “GAME OVER.”

Clippard, Wright, and players of that caliber: Meh. Do what you must.

  6. kasey

    jon,

there was talk in another thread of horne going to TX, but i don’t know how high the rangers interest is, or if the yanks will deal him.

he might end up going to the mets or red sox, according to mlb.com.

  7. Jeremy

I don’t think the Rangers would take Farnsworth under any circumstances. Now that would be a bad fit.

  8. dontfirecash

I guess it all depends on whether or not Jon Daniels feels he can sign gagne in the offseason. If he think he has no shot to resign him, the Yanks should be able to get away with offering a package like Marquez, Gardner and some throw away(B.Smith or J.Jones?). If Daniels wants to play hardball and demands Horne, I would walk away.

  9. susan mullen

Michael Kay is just hearing from his Disney/ESPN guest (their designated media conduit, Olney) that the Yankee development people are concerned about letting Joe Torre have one of their new young pitchers for fear he’ll want them to get 6 outs. Granted he’s blown out middle relievers, but I followed most games and he often had no choice. Since ruining pitchers is not desirable, someone must consider expanding total rosters to be able to include more pitchers on all teams.

  10. CB

After all the bad moves he’s made, can Daniels afford to just let Gagne walk away at the end of the season and get nothing for him?

I’m not so sure, although you have to give it to him – that package he got for Texiera was impressive.

When Dotel gets dealt Gagne becomes an even more valuable source. Nonetheless, I think Daniels would want to trade him rather than letting him walk.

I wouldn’t trade Horne for him. Wait him out and see if he’ll drop to a Marques or Clippard.

I would put Horne in the pen next year, assuming hughes and chamberlain are in the rotation with Kennedy next up. I would groom Horne and Ohlendorf to be part of the pen next year and see if one works out.

  11. NY 23

How Do , Cashman will make smart trades like trading Proctor for Betimit . Farnsworth to Colorado for example. Then deal for Gagne without giving away the Farm System. Good Luck , Brian Cashman !!!!

  12. Zack

The thing is Susan, the best way to use a starter in the pen is for three or so innings, but every six days. So for Joba, six outs should be just what they should do. The problem is that Joe would want that every day.

On the other hand, if there really is this “fear” in the organization, which i sort of doubt coming from ESPN, then they need to fire Torre right now. You can’t “fear’ how your manager uses players and expect to win

  13. dontfirecash

    CB,
I like the idea of Horne in the pen. He has shown great control this year and he obviously has the stuff to be successful in the ‘pen. It sucks for him because he has Hughes, Joba and Ian ahead of him which makes it unlikely he would crack the rotation unless there were mass injuries. But Horne obviously wants to pitch in the majors and the ‘pen might be the only place he can fit at the moment.

  14. Thurman

I say trade Giambi, Farnsworth, Mussina, Damon, Proctor and Igawa for a used jockstrap, a sardine and onion sandwich, and a pile of broken bats. If they can get a new jockstrap, eat some salaries.

  15. T.J.

Thanks for the update Pete. I’ve been trying to read the rumor mill and who’s got who and the deals kept either changing or didn’t go through. Thanks for doing all the work and just allowing me to come read the important stuff.

  16. David

Here’s to hoping something gets done and Farnsy gets out.

  17. Kevin

Tell Farnsworth and Myers to “hit the bricks” to Pittsburgh for LHRP Damaso Marte.

  18. CB

    dontfirecash,

Horne isn’t old but isn’t a kid anymore with the setbacks from the arm injuries. I think he’d be happy being in the bigs either way and I think the Yankees should push to get him up rather than letting him spend more time in the minors (assuming he’s not traded)

I think utting him in the pen and seeing what happens with the rotation – injuries, age, etc. would be a good way of getting his feet wet and then just seeing where he’s at with his pitching and their needs.

If he has any success in the majors he becomes an order of magnitude more valuable as a trade chip (should they want to proceed in that direction) than he is now.

In certain ways I feel more comfortable doing this with him than Joba, though Joba will be lights out in the pen most probably.

Zach McCallister threw another great game the other night. He’s turning into a mini-Wang only with more strike outs. You have to be cautious but guys who induce that many ground ball outs and throw that hard have a good chance to find success.

  19. asburyboss

I know it is just posturing, but mo has said he will test free agency this winter. Who knows, maybe gagne stays and mariano goes…certainly would help cashman to have gagne around as insurance…

Horne has a legit chance to be our next pettite…big Lefty. Moving him to the pen isn’t a great idea.I would prefer to move Kennedy who is 1 of 100 righty starters we have in high minors.

No chance of moving mussina at the deadline? Damn

  20. Josh

Evem if we had to pay all of Farnsworth contract, I say dump him, it would be worth every penny.

  21. CB

Horne is right handed and is one of the “100 righty starters” in the high minors.

He is however, amongst the best.

  22. Brian M

    Horne is right handed.

  23. dontfirecash

    CB,
Think about this. The Yanks have three spectacular arms under the age of 20. McAllister, Betances and the Jairo-man.

  24. dontfirecash

    CB,
Do you know anything about the kids playing in the DSL? I know that Urena kid is supposed to be great, but I haven’t been able to find out that much about those players.

  25. asburyboss

If we can’t trade farns we should DFA him.

  26. Stuart

Screw Texas.. Gagne is a RENTAL>…GIve him 2nd tier players if they do not accept. screw it..addition by subtraction bye to; kyle, and myers for anything you can get.

bring up the young studs and give them a chance, not that complicated……….

  27. CB

    dontfirecash,

it’s always touch and go with young pitchers (especially ones that are 17!) but the yankees have done a great job of already stocking their next generation of young pitchers to follow hughes/ chamberlain/ kennedy.

You have to be very impressed with what their pitching development system is doing right now. McCallister was a good prospect a year a go, but far from special. Now his numbers are just eye-opening. A ground ball : fly ball ratio of 2.5! That’s absurd and then he’s averaging more than 1K/inning.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see him in Tampa at some point next year.

Betances’ elbow injury was set back. I wonder if he may go to Hawaii if he recovers late.

Herredia – what can you say. He may be a special arm. It’s too early to say but to throw that hard at that age and body type is very, very impressive.

Imagine if Herredia entered the draft a year from now. What chance would the yankees have to pick him (unless of course his agent were scott boras).

He’s not at that level yet but manny barreda has also looked good in the GCL

  28. Moose Jab

The Times just reported Red Sox has agreed to a deal for Gagne.

  29. CB

    dontfirecash,

I honestly don’t know too much about the DSL. Urena is supposed to be good but I had some vague impression that he’s having a bad season or has been a bit of a disappointment.

It’s early but Montero’s been pretty good to, especially for his age in the GCL.

Montero strikes me as the exact opposite case to Tabata’s. Montero – no doubt about the power but will he make contact? Tabita – no doubt he’ll make contact but power? (though I’m really not worried about tabata’s power numbers given his age/ FSL)

  30. dontfirecash

I agree that it is too early to worry about Tabata’s power production. Speaking of power, how about Action Jackson. 1.000+ OPS in Tampa!!! As a 20yr old!!!!

  31. gargoyle

The Yankees should be looking to move people like Mussina instead of adding someone to bolster their longshot playoff hopes.

    Forget about Gagne.

  32. Yankee Magic

The Times just reported Red Sox has agreed to a deal for Gagne.

    LINK?

  33. CB

i’m staying cautiously optimistic on jackson if for no other reason than the level of expectation on him is really building fast, too fast i think.

i have a feeling we’ll know more about what Jackson is becoming after he has his first true slump in tampa. How does he rebound? If his mechanics get out of wack (which they will ) does he get them back in line.

That said if he were to develop it would be a gold mine for the yanks. He’s a true potential 5 tool guy and getting those players, even on the free agent market is extraordinarily difficult.

  36. whozat

“The Yankees should be looking to move people like Mussina”

Yeah, move a guy with a no-trade clause that doesn’t want to go anywhere. Real easy. Also, do you want Igawa taking his starts? Or were you going to just insert Joba into the rotation and ask him to be the savior of the team? That sounds like a great way to break in a kid in his first full year of pro ball. Or maybe you think Jeff Karstens would be just as good as the Moose?

It’s like people don’t even bother to think.

  37. Yankee Magic

He must be a Red Sux fan…

  38. kasey

“The Times just reported Red Sox has agreed to a deal for Gagne.”

can’t find this anywhere online. so, you’re either full of it or have access to information google and nytimes.com won’t supply me with.

  39. dontfirecash

    CB,
It is truly amazing that Jackson hasn’t plummeted down to earth yet. He had one rough stretch a few games ago(10game average of .250 or something like that) but he has rebounded nicely. I sure as hell hope he keeps it cause an outfield with Jackson and tabata in it would be sick.

  40. KAJ

    ya think ???

  41. Doreen

Which Times? Boston, New York, Washington, LA?

  42. jay destro

there is no confirmed gange deal, relax you bridge jumpers

  43. Yankee Magic

    Loser Times?

  44. KAJ

The Moron can’t even use proper english…either Boston has agreed…or Red Sox have agreed….but Red Sox has agreed ?…..derrr !!!

  45. CB

As good a natural hitter as Tabata is, he probably doesn’t have the upside Jackson does (though Tabata might turn out to be such a good hitter it doesn’t really matter. though the weight does concern me).

That’s the thing with Jackson – no one in the organization has close to his skills. If he makes that transition from athlete to ball player it would be enormous. there’s no two ways about it.

  46. Larry

Did you all ever consider he is a Red Sox fan toying with Yankees fans?

There is no report in the times of Gagne going to Boston.

  47. dontfirecash

I’d be thrilled if the Red Sox got Gagne, so long as it involved them giving up Bucholz…hey we can dream right.

  48. Larry

it suddenly got all quiet in here.

  49. Stuart

yeah the red sox need gagne as much as the yanks need another lefty bat..

and the yanks need another DH type..

    yeah…

  50. SJ44

A name to keep in mind for the bullpen next year…..Ross Ohlendorf.

He keeps throwing 97 MPH sinkers, like he did in Scranton the other night, he is going to make the team out of the ‘pen next year.

Joba to the ‘pen? I am coming around to it.

Spent the weekend in Chicago watching the White Sox and Blue Jays and had a chance to talk to a scout I know well about it.

He was all for Joba to the ‘pen for several reasons. First, its his belief Joba is going to be on the roster next year so they might as well break him in now.

Second, he believes, contrary to popular opinion, Torre WON’T burn him out. He told me Torre only does that with veteran relievers! lol. Seriously though, he doesn’t see it as an issue. He also thinks its possible Joba turns into a “Papelbon-type” relief pitcher. He loves Joba and Kennedy and thinks both will not only be on the staff in NY next year, but will be big contributors.

He thinks Joba can adjust to the role and has the makeup to handle the ups and downs. If a guy who forgot more baseball than I will ever know says its something that can work, I can be convinced my opinion is worthless on this mattter.

If the Yankees can get Gagne for Horne and somebody like Justin Christian, I think you have to do that deal. They are only 4 games out of the WC and let’s be honest, the bullpen is awful.

Chamberlain, Gagne and Vizcaino in front of Mo is something that could work for a few months, IMO. Gotta make that move if at all possible.

The one thing we are seeing are how well thought of the younger pitchers in the organization are around baseball. Its why the Yankees won’t be down for long.

Wang, Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy, Ohlendorf, five guys who will probably be in NY in 2008. That’s pretty damn impressive.

  51. KAJ

The Times just reported a sighting for Moose Jab :

    http://www.fbesp.org/pix/dork.jpg

He has some more realiable info for us later !

  52. Joe from Long Island

No confirmation of a Gagne-Red Sox deal. However, in browsing the Boston Herald website, Timlin is still complaining of arm/shoulder pain. Apparently, another stint on the DL is not impossible.

I still cannot believe that Okajima is pitching as well as he is. Apparently, in Japan he was considered nothing nothing special. Now he is arguably more important to Red Sox than Dice-K. Go figure.

  53. Jordan

    SJ44,

Why give up a quality pitcher, one who would be at least a top 2 prospect of a super majority of teams for 20 Gagne appearances?

  54. Stuart

    Amen Jordan…

    SJ why????

The yanks need 3 new arms in the pen….not 1 30 + yr old, fragile guy, who is good but lost 6 mph on his fastball and missed almost 2 full seasons before this one..

  55. This just in ......

The Socks fan that spread the Gagne rumors heard it on radio station WSUX in Bahhhstin.

  56. Top Cat

Peter, EPSN is using a countdown clock. Let’s put one up on the front page.

  57. Jim Johnson

I would like to see Olendorf in the pen. Man, we’re going to have a team full of home-grown pitchers.

And a 62 year old Clemens.

  58. jennifer

Is Krazy Kyle still a Yankee?

  59. Jordan

Jason Jones and Justin Christian/Brett Gardner is the most I give up for Gagne.

Jones has been solid all year and is second in WHIP to only Clay Bucholz (who has since been promoted) in the Eastern League.

Gagne’s a rental that could go down at any moment. 20 appearances, 15-18 of them which will be quality is not worth Alan Horne. I’m a sinker ball fan, so personally I wouldn’t even give up Marquez (but that’s a bias opinion which I’m sure few will agree with and that’s fine).

I loved the Yankees going out and “buying” people as much as the next fan, but those days are over. Cashman has to stick to his guns, stay the course, and develop the pitching. Keep the costs down and then we can take on salary in underachieving areas. Fortunately, for the future, pitching won’t be one of those areas.

  60. Top Cat

The same baaa.ston radio station is reporting Martians have invaded Grover’s Mill, New Jeresy.

Damn! Martians in Mercer County. I wonder if any of them can pitch?

  61. Top Cat

Will Gagne have shave his facial hair ?? I don’t want a billygoat wearing pinstripes.

  62. David

  64. yankees fan

can you send me some info on trade and the yankees who do you think they will get and did Gagne relly sign with the choke sox

  65. jennifer

The red soxs are on Eric’s list of teams he has to approve a trade to go to. There is nothing on espn.com Probably just a rumor that someone started.

  66. jay destro

yankees fan… nothing has happened yet. no team named the “choke sox” have acquired eric gange.

  67. jennifer

  68. Alias

    Yes SJ44 welcome back.

  69. jennifer

No welcome back for me? :( I was away this weekend. I got to see one yankee win.

  70. Cumberberg

don’t worry, jennifer, we missed you too!

  71. jennifer

    Okay thanks cumberberg. :D

Did anyone find video of what Kyle did to Jorge. I left the game before it happened, and have only read what transpired.

  72. Ben

So much for Jason being ready to return next week.

I think Joba is about to come in for SWB.

  73. AL

Some of you guys don’t get it. Why would Texas take Farnsworth? Why? Cmon GMS aren’t dumb… this isn’t armchair GMing… it’s real baseball. Texas wants to get younger and cheaper and better for the longterm. Farnsworth gives them none of these.

You have to give to get. If you want Gagne it probably means parting with Horne and 1 or 2 other lower tier prospects.

Otherwise Gagne’s going to someone who will pay the piper. That’s just how it works. Atlanta gave up top players to get Teixera… give to get… that’s how it works

  74. yankees fan

    why what happand

  75. KAJ

    welcome back, Jenn !

  76. Cumberberg

what’s the deal with the proctor-for-betemit rumor?

  77. Ben

    Joba now in for SWB.

Rochester has apparently surrendered, forfeiting the game even though they lead 3-1.

  78. KAJ

    Cumberberg…as of now…does not look good…

  79. Yankee Magic

    From NYYFANS Forum:

Jayson stark just reported on espnnews that Yankees and Rangers have a deal in place for gagne, only sticking point is money (the yanks have agreed to pay a portion of the bonus clause money in gagne’s contract to appease him setting up rivera). Stark said the players agreed upon in the deal are Tyler Clippard, Jeff Marquez, and a C level prospect. Also said the yankees worked hard to get the deal done, knowing boston and mets are in the hunt. He said the deal could be announced by tomorrow morning.

  80. Ben

    I think that’s fair. This is a two-month rental.

  81. jennifer

    Thanks KAJ

Yanks fan, Jorge was crossed up on a pitch by Kyle. He called for a slide, Kyle threw a fast ball. It hit jorge in the palm/wrist/arm (depending on who you listen to). Jorge was obviously upset. Jorge went to speak to him, Kyle walked away, Jorge had to be calmed down by Alex. After the game Kyle said “we’ll see” when asked if he has a problem with Jorge.

  82. Jordan

    1 batter, 1 K for Joba

  83. jennifer

I like that deal yankees magic.

  84. Yankee Magic

  85. Jordan

Clippard, Marquez, C level prospect is a done deal if you’re Cashman.

  86. Joeysdadjoe

I would like to see Gange in Pinstripes myself but I dont want to mortgage the farm to do it.He is a rental…Mo is coming back and in 08 there wont be room for both. That being said Gange could be the difference between a successful postseason and no postseason.

  87. Ben

I’m a little concerned. It took Joba six pitches to strike out the first batter. He usually does so in five or less. Maybe this is a sign that he won’t be as effective out of the Pen.

Oh wait, there we go. Only four pitches to strike out the second batter. Never mind.

  88. Jordan

2 batters, 2 Ks for Joba

  97. neil

damn, marquez was one of my favorite pitchers in the minors, behind only hughes, joba, and belatances. I wish they had traded Kennedy + C prosprects for Gagne AND C.J. Wilson.

We need a lefty killer bad, and LHB are hitting an absurd(sp) .097(or something like that) against Wilson.

Still a reasonably(sp) good deal for the yankees

  98. Jordan

    What was that?

    1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 12 pitches, 9 strikes

    Not bad.

  99. Mike NYY

    Okay deal

I`l take it I guess. I just hope we can resign Gagne now.

  100. Yankee Magic

    IM from a friend:
Jason Stark hasn’t been on ESPNews at all this evening!

  101. Ben

Gagne wants to close. I don’t think we have a chance to re-sign him unless we win the WS or something, and he has such a great experience in NY that he decides to stay. We’d still have to pay him Closer money, since Boras is his agent, and I’m not sure we would do that for a set-up guy. We should be able to find an effective 8th inning guy for less than $10 million per (my estimate of what Gagne will get this offseason).

  102. As I Lay Dying

oh no! they broke up the fab four – Jones, Marquez, Chamblain, Kennedy. I got no reason to live now.

  103. Andrew

Chamberlain 1 inning 3k’s 2 swinging one called on.

  104. Mike S.

You make that deal. Clip, Marquez and C level? Do it.

No WAY do you give up Kennedy.

  105. Drive 4-5

Obviously, the Yanks desperately need bullpen help. But I’ll be sorry to see Clippard leave for a rental. The kid is so young and he did show some potential. I think the long term key to Tyler Clippard’s success will be improved mechanics. It’s pretty hard to repeat his delivery the way he currently throws.

  106. KAJ

not sure If I believe this Gagne rumor…nothing on espn OR espn news…

  107. Mike S.

Nyy fans forums? Hmmm….give us something reputable.

But I make that deal if that is what is on the table.

  108. BBB

How legit are these Gagne trade rumors? I’ve had ESPNews on for a few minutes now and nothing yet. I really hope you guys are not blowing smoke up my butt cause I just had to listen to Barry Bonds talk for what seemed like a full 10 minutes! About how if Dodger fans scream really loud about how bad he sucks, it must be because he has talent. Uuugh yeah the cream and the clear is really talented…hurry up and break that record Alex!!! lol :)

Anywho back to the topic at hand. If this deal is really done as reported without including Kennedy or Horne, then I REALLY like it!!

I grew pretty attatched to T-Clip quickly and will REALLY miss him and will make a point to go to the Stadium and cheer for him when Texas comes in. But I pretty much figured he would be trade bait. We just have too much pitching. God it feels good to type that!

  109. SJ44

I don’t see Gagne getting 10 million a year. Mo is the greatest closer of all time and he makes 11. Gagne, with all his ailments ain’t gettin’ 10 next year, IMO.

Why do I want Gagne? I believe they can convince him to stay and setup next year. He may not be a rental guy. Just pay him closers money.

Why would the Yankees do that? They will start 2 rookies (Hughes and Chamberlain) in the rotation next year. Perhaps even a third in Kennedy. That’s less than $1.5 million in total salaries for three pitchers.

Wang won’t be making big money yet. If they add Ohlendorf to the bullpen next year, he will be making the minimum.

That’s 5 pitchers, almost half the staff making less than HALF of what Mussina will make this year.

If they got Gagne, and he pitched well, they could certainly afford to pay him like a closer which, is what the whole “I want to be a closer” stuff is about…..money.

Give me a pitching staff in ‘08 consisting of Wang, Pettitte (if he doesn’t retire), Hughes, Chamberlain and Moose or Kennedy, with Vizcaino, Ohlendorf and Gagne, joining Mo in the bullpen, with 3 spots still open, and that’s a helluva upgrade to what they have now.

If they could do the deal without giving up Horne, all the better.

Make no mistake, a team with offensive inconsistency and an awful bullpen, with old starters (this year’s Yankee team) needs all the help they can get. Gagne could really help them the next two months.

  110. SJ44

FWIW, I’ve been watching ESPNNEWS and they haven’t said anything about a Gagne to the Yankees deal.

Me thinks we have been lied to.

  111. Yankee Magic

well looks like we have had a fake Sox rumor and a fake Yankee Gagne rumor today..

  112. KAJ

    bastages !

  113. Drive 4-5

    SJ44,

Does your scout friend have an opinion on Tyler Clippard?

  114. Jim Johnson

  115. BBB

Agreed SJ…it seems we’ve just been punk’d lol. They just did their little MLB trade bit and nothing about Gagne.

  116. Jordan

Clippard, Karstens, and a C-level prospect makes Brian Cashman a genius.

  117. Kj

My father works at espn and he told me Jason wasnt on all day. He is just updating his blog on espn.com today. Tomorrow he will be on espn for a baseball tonight trade deadline special but thats it.

  118. jennifer

Joe will have a good stern talking to about his use of Joba. Probably goes like this. He gets up he goes in the game. No if’s and or buts. probably limits how many times in a week he can be used, pitch count, etc.

  119. Cumberberg

Mr. Johnson, thanks for the link, but it’s a link citing yourself. I’m not seeing any corroborating info.

…and WHAT does THIS prove ???

  121. Kill Schill-(ing)

Who the heck is Jim Johnson and is his report of Gagne to the Yankees credible? Is MVN an authoritative news site? And who are this guy’s sources?

Unless Gagne agreed to a contract extension, I have misgivings about ceding Clippard and Karstens and/or Marquez for a two-month player. Clippard and a C-level prospect alone would make me less leery.

  122. Chuckles

Man, I hope that deal comes through.

Cashman will be in a lot of people’s wet dreams tonight if this is the case.

  123. YankeeJosh

First, I don’t believe this rumor at all.

As for a potential trade, I still think it’s a bit much. Marquez AND Clippard add depth to the minors. I think Clippard will be a solid major leaguer though he probably has no role with the Yanks. Throwing Marquez in for a rental who is injury prone is too much.

It wouldn’t devastate the organization, but isn’t a move I’d be quick to make.

  124. Ben

Well, if Jom Johnson’s reporting it, it has to be legit.

  125. SJ44

My scout friend is not high on Chase Wright, Clippard or Marquez. Thinks they are ok but not special type of arms.

He loves Hughes and Chamberlain. IHO, he thinks they are the two best pitching prospects in baseball.

Also loves Horne and Kennedy and thinks Cashman would be wise to keep both of them.

He thinks Sanchez will turn out to be a very good pitcher, Post-TJ Surgery.

He hasn’t seen Betances or McAllister this year so, he has no opinion on either.

Thinks Ohlendorf’s future is in the bullpen and thinks he could be a very good setup man.

Those are all the pitchers in the system he told me about this summer.

  126. tim

mvn had the randy johnson deal nailed like a week before it happened just wrong on one of the players so put some faith in it

  127. Top Cat

    KAJ-

Jim Johnson post here, and it seems he’s just posting what he read online.

he even included the BillyGoat quip I originated at 8:32 pm

  128. rbizzler

If this unsubstantiated rumor is true, I pull the trigger in a heartbeat. I like T-Clip and Marquez could be a decent big leaguer, but this deal makes the big club better and does not sell off the high-ceiling prospects on the farm. Plus it opens the door to dump Farnsy for whatever they can get for him.

  129. Mike S.

    SJ44:

What does your scout friend think of Daniel McCutcheon?

  130. Mike S.

Asking because McCutcheon is 11-2, 2.50 at Tampa. Just wondering if he saw him and his opinion of him.

  131. pat m

First, Welcome back SJ,now if Randy 1 would return that would be solid…Both are very insightful, knowledgable, and more importantly they know the game…..Just listened to the Dodger talk show, and they say that the Yanks & Dodgers are still talking about Proctor ( some loose change ) for Betemit…..No way are they even remotely interested in Farnsworth…Cashman is being held hostage as everyone in the game knows the Yanks want to move his ass…..Maybe Colorado for some used BP balls, and Yankee Dollars…Just read the names that are being tossed around for Gange….Seems to good to be true, that’s a small price for a lockdown reliever….Let’s hope it’s true….Question, if the club does move Proctor, and Farnsworth, I suspect the Chamberlain experiment is on, but who else besides the Viz can they count on…Britton’s out, Bruney ?????

  132. gianthinker

It would be huge if we could turn Farnsworth or Meyers into Pittsburgh’s Damaso Marte.

  133. pat m

Tabata not in tonights lineup ?????? I hope not

  134. gargoyle

    whozat

You think that no player with a NTC in their contract has ever been dealt?
