Game 107: White Sox at Yankees

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Aug 01, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Here is the lineup:

YANKEES
Cabrera CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Matsui LF
Posada C
Cano 2B
Phillips 1B
Duncan DH
Pettitte LHP (6-7, 4.11)

Pregame chatter: Yanks are facing lefty John Danks (6-7, 4.83). … Jeff Karstens was called up today to take the place of Proctor in the bullpen. Once Wilson Betemit arrives, it is expected that Chris Basak will be optioned.

Robinson Cano is 24 of his last 50 over 12 games with 12 runs scored and 13 RBI. His batting average has soared from .275 to .300.

A-Rod carries an 0-for-17 into the game. Forget a home run, he could use a single at this point.

OK, that’s it for me. Headed out to see The Police. Enjoy the game.

UPDATE, 5:33 p.m.: I was just flipping through the comments. The Yankees would have had to pay the remainder of Farnsworth’s salary if they traded him to the Braves, $7.1 million. I’m not sure what you may have read or heard elsewhere, but Atlanta wasn’t taking on the money.

Also, don’t get caught up in trade deadline evaluations. How are the Yankees losers if Ian Kennedy turns into a starting pitcher next season? If he proves to be the next Matt DeSalvo, then they are losers. But nobody knows at this point.

Two years ago, a lot of these same people wanted Cashman to trade Chien-Ming Wang. Now he has the most victories in baseball since the start of the 2006 season.

its nice to see Duncan play, he brings a lot of energy to the table.

  2. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 5:28 pm

Thanks for the update Pete, Have fun at the concert!

  3. NYY August 1st, 2007 at 5:29 pm

The only question for today’s game is whether the Yanks will score 15 runs or more.

  4. NYY August 1st, 2007 at 5:30 pm

Another young pitcher going to get his confidence dented by the Yankee Offense.

  5. ... August 1st, 2007 at 5:31 pm

    Not so fast…

I have noticed that the Yankees tend to struggle against starters they arent too familiar with..

  6. Skinny Mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:32 pm

As well as vs lefty starters. I would love to see us come out MASHING like yesterday though.

  7. Jake S August 1st, 2007 at 5:32 pm

A lefty starter they haven’t seen before. Guaranteed loss.

  8. Big mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:33 pm

    just want them to MASH

  9. NYY August 1st, 2007 at 5:33 pm

R u kidding have u been watching the Yanks Offense lately. Come on. It’s not wrong to be positive abt the offense when they r getting teh job done day in and day out.

  10. GreenTeaSucks August 1st, 2007 at 5:34 pm

It’s a home game so they have a slight chance of winning. If it was a young lefty starter on the road a loss would be guaranteed.

  11. NYY August 1st, 2007 at 5:34 pm

They have actually faced Danks before earlier this sesaon.

  12. saucy August 1st, 2007 at 5:34 pm

i asked in the prior thread, but why is Betemit not here yet? Airline strike?

    sounds like a slacker

  13. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm

they’ve seen danks before and, if i recall, he handled them pretty well. i’d sit abreu, rather than damon if you’re going to sit a lefty bat but, whatever.

  14. Doreen August 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Well, it’s a lefty starter they haven’t seen before, BUT it’s at home. So, not a guaranteed loss. :)

  15. Skinny Mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Nothing would make me happier than if they came out CRUSHING and MASHING all over the place

  16. Lenny August 1st, 2007 at 5:37 pm

Finally ….. a long reliever in the Yankee bullpen. Something that’s been needed since April. Karstens can handle it and spot start if needed.

  17. Big mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:38 pm

    I WANT TO CRUSH DANKS

  18. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 5:38 pm

I’d just be happy with a win.

Everyday for the rest of the season.

  19. Bob from NJ August 1st, 2007 at 5:39 pm

I was wondering the same thing, why hasn’t Betemit shown up yet? Teix is already with the Braves.

  20. whozat August 1st, 2007 at 5:40 pm

“R u kidding have u been watching the Yanks Offense lately.”

Did you see them against the two lefties in the Orioles series?

I hope ARod picks tonight to come out of it. They might need him. He looked a lot better last night. He got unlucky on a double and a single.

Danks was one of the DVD trio of touted Rangers prospects, right? He’s supposedly got promise. I just hope that Andy finds his comfort level out there and they score enough runs to get him the win he so deserves.

  21. Big mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:40 pm

i want to see betemit in the lineup soon

  22. Doreen August 1st, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Nice to see we’re mostly on the same page, here! :)

It’s actually pretty funny. Oh, you have factor in that it’s Petttitte going tonight and he doesn’t usually get a lot of run support.

Danks faced them earlier this year, went 6.1 innings, gave up 2 runs on 7 hits.

  23. Doreen August 1st, 2007 at 5:42 pm

    Sunny615 –

Nice to see you setting your sights at a realistic level! :)

  24. Joe from Long Island August 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm

Good point about scouts and prospects. Three years ago the Yankees farm system was bereft of talent. Since then, it has produced Wang and Cano; Cabrera; Phillips this year; Duncan; with Hughes and Joba on the horizon. Yes, we have our share of Matt DeSalvo’s and Colter Bean’s, but, overrall, not bad for a barren system.

  25. Big mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:43 pm

I want to crush dank, nug/john

  26. Skinny Mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:46 pm

I hope the Yanks smoke Dank tonight…

  27. cc August 1st, 2007 at 5:48 pm

    where is Damon?

odd to have your DH hitting 9th. and a rookie. this team is still not quite right.

  28. saucy August 1st, 2007 at 5:48 pm

that’ll bring a lot of energy to the team!

  29. Big mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:50 pm

i mean that is what betemit will do with melky and cano tonight

  30. Doreen August 1st, 2007 at 5:51 pm

Damon struck out 3 times against Dank last time they saw him. Alex had 0-for.

Of course, this is a different team than it was on May 16th, with our lefties finally hitting lefties. And they only lost 5-3 last time.

  31. Skinny Mike August 1st, 2007 at 5:53 pm

Melky and Cano will take Betemit out on the town with them when he arrives and show him what it is really like to play in NY. Betemit is going to get HAZED.

  32. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 5:55 pm

Betemit is expected by gametime tonight.

  33. ... August 1st, 2007 at 5:55 pm

I don’t care how many runs the Yankees scored last night… they faced Contreras and a knuckleballing rookie.

Contreras would have given up 10 runs to a minor league team the way he’s been pitching lately.

The Yankees struggle against young guys a lot because the veterans haven’t mastered them yet.

Edwin Jackson anyone?? — he has two wins, one against the Yankees and another decent ND against them if i believe. He has like 12 losses..

not to mention the guys in Baltimore… Adam Loewen has shut them down basically everytime he pitches against them, im glad he’s hurt this year

  34. Johnny D August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 pm

Hey, don’t give up on Matty DeSalvo yet.

  35. cc August 1st, 2007 at 6:00 pm

    ok, thanks Doreen.

  36. cc August 1st, 2007 at 6:01 pm

    > Hey, don’t give up on Matty DeSalvo yet.

seems like the team clearly has.

  37. John August 1st, 2007 at 6:01 pm

    Johnny D,

It’s not about giving up on DeSalvo but he is what he is.

  38. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 6:15 pm

you know, it says a lot about pettitte that he can go out there, feel completely uncomfortable, and still give them 5-6 innings of 3-4 run ball. if moose goes out there feeling “uncomfortable,” you can count on being out of the ballgame in a hurry.

the other side of that coin is, how long does pettitte have to feel “uncomfortable” before you start to wonder if this is just who is now? he was great at the beginning of the year, but he seems to have plateaued.

  39. Andy August 1st, 2007 at 6:15 pm

With Proctor gone, I guess the Yankees bullpen is left with just Gamble.

  40. the cano cannon August 1st, 2007 at 6:21 pm

    when is betimit gunna arrive

  41. whozat August 1st, 2007 at 6:25 pm

“odd to have your DH hitting 9th. and a rookie. this team is still not quite right.”

So…you’d feel better if Matsui were DHing and Duncan were in LF because having a DH that hits fifth or sixth is more “normal”?

Who cares what position hits where? As long as the team hits! Duncan slugs a lot and K’s a lot. That’s a bottom of the order hitter.

“the other side of that coin is, how long does pettitte have to feel “uncomfortableâ€? before you start to wonder if this is just who is now?”

So…he turned from awesome into old over the course of two months? I don’t buy it. If “this is just who he is now”, he’d have been this way for the first several months. If he “got old” he’d have lost velocity and his stuff would be worse.

  42. kd August 1st, 2007 at 6:36 pm

TAvarez is on the hill for the Rag Sox tonight. Hopefully we can pick up another game on them. The division is still possible

  43. cc August 1st, 2007 at 6:41 pm

“So…you’d feel better if Matsui were DHing and Duncan were in LF because having a DH that hits fifth or sixth is more “normalâ€??

no, I’d rather have someone better for the position, which is reserved for good hitters, or why else would it exist?

  44. Stuart August 1st, 2007 at 6:43 pm

scary I agree with Kasey. I play Damon tonight and sit abreu.. have melky play rf…

they need to beat this lefty and beat him good…

I agree with Duncan in the lineup he deserves a few AB’s …

The tigers are struggling someone may want to tell Maddog they are not playing real well right now….

  45. Joe Monte August 1st, 2007 at 6:44 pm

Just make it to the playoffs, we have seen many teams make the world series via the wild card. Only 3 games out right now we have a great shot, especially with Cleveland not making a move yesterday.

  46. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 6:45 pm

Damon is hitless against Danks and Abreu is 2-3 with a HR.

Small sample size? Yes but, I still play Abreu tonight. He’s driving in runs and they need his run production.

  47. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 6:46 pm

Detroit lost, don’t look now but we’re only 3.5 games behind Detroit. If only Seattle would go away we would just have to beat out either Cleveland or Detroit. Coolstandings.com has the Yankees over 50% chance to make the playoffs as of this morning. The future (and present) look bright.

  48. whozat August 1st, 2007 at 6:48 pm

“no, I’d rather have someone better for the position, which is reserved for good hitters, or why else would it exist?”

You _might_ have noticed that our DH (one of the most productive offensive players in baseball) went on the DL a while ago and is currently on the way back. Should we have traded for another DH just to make our DH logjam worse? Also, notice that the person you’re whining about DHes pretty seldom and that we usually DO have a better hitter at DH. And, also, notice that this person you’re whining about has 4 HRs in his first 14 MLB ABs. You’re clearly looking for things to whine about…how about the pen? There are actually problems there!

  51. saucy August 1st, 2007 at 6:50 pm

damon and abreu have both been doing well lately..

but for the hell of it, 5/16 box score vs Danks:
    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/bo.....=270516204

    Damon 1 for 5, 3 Ks
    Abreu 2 for 3, 1 HR, 1 K

okay, for some reason my work computer only likes to show me comments older than 10 minutes, no matter how many times i hit F5.

  53. mel August 1st, 2007 at 6:57 pm

Let’s see how Danks handles Yankee Stadium.

Saucy, can you read the comments now?

  54. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 6:58 pm

“If only Seattle would go away…”

i promise you, of all the teams to worry about, seattle ought to be last on your list. their rotation is hernandez (huge talent but hasn’t put it all together for an extended period yet), washburn (the homeless man’s andy pettitte), batista (nothing to write home about, but usually solid), weaver (’nuff said) and horacio ramirez (fantastic at home, godawful on the road). the bullpen is breaking down quickly, and they don’t really have a dependable set-up guy for putz. the offense is too streaky to sustain anything (see the three separate six-game losing streaks, followed immediately by winning streaks of four games or more this season).

    forget about seattle. seriously.

  55. saucy August 1st, 2007 at 7:01 pm

    not yet mel!

  56. mel August 1st, 2007 at 7:01 pm

    kasey,

Great to see that you’re an equal opportunity banger. lol.

  57. Chuckles August 1st, 2007 at 7:09 pm

Chamberlain’s schedule has changed again and is supposed to pitch tonight in Trenton.

Sounds like Cash and Torre are like everyone else and can’t wait to get this kid fitted for pinstripes.

  58. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 7:10 pm

Most of us are already ignoring Seattle. They seem to be winning with smoke and mirrors but so far they are hanging around. I actually think they may be better than Cleveland.

Hopefully the Yankees will be in playoff position prior to starting the series with Cleveland on 8/10. As it is the Yankees basically control their own destiny with 3 games against Cleveland and Seattle.

whoops, Saltalamacchia (sp?) just made it 3-0…

  62. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 7:18 pm

“I actually think they (Seattle) may be better than Cleveland.”

nah. cleveland’s rotation isn’t lights out 1-5, but it’s better than seattle’s. offenses are about even, but cleveland’s got a few more guys who contribute consistently. seattle’s bullpen is better.

  63. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 7:19 pm

salty’s going to be a great hitter.

  64. Dave August 1st, 2007 at 7:25 pm

I find it VERY hard or even impossible to believe that the rangers would take nothing less than Ian Kennedy (our second best prospect behind chamberlain and not counting Hughes) for gagne. Yet, somehow the boy wonder pulled off the gagne deal with kason gabbard as the centerpiece of the deal. Kennedy is 11-2 with an era under 2 this yr and more than a K per inning. Forget about the yanks that our some of the best minor league numbers by a pitcher in all of minor league baseball for 100 plus innings pitched. Gabbard in 488 innings in the minors holds a 1.35 whip and an era over four. Hes done slightly better in the majors with an era in the high 3’s but in very very limited playing time. Karstens has put up just as good numbers in his limited major league time. So why then is gabbard acceptable for gagne but we couldnt trade guys like Karstens or Horne for him? Why cant cashman explain that?

  65. Yankee Fan in Boston August 1st, 2007 at 7:25 pm

Agree on Salty, Kasey. I think Texas did well in that trade.

  66. Yankee Fan in Boston August 1st, 2007 at 7:29 pm

Dave — My guess is that if Karstens was healthy and pitching like Gabbard is, and we were willing to throw in a stud lower minor leaguer like Beltre, we could have gotten there. Realistically, though, what major league, healthy talent did we have to offer? I bet if Clippard or DeSalvo had done better this year we could have had a deal.

  67. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 7:38 pm

I agree, Texas wanted a major league ready starter. We need those guys, so it wasn’t a good match. FYI, Boston now is really counting on Schilling be healthy, Wakefield not being old and Lester being fully ready to contribute. No guarantees in my book.

  82. Dave August 1st, 2007 at 8:01 pm

Yankee Fan in Boston, if that was true we really should have gagne right now. True, Karstens was on the dl but he is now healthy and back on the team. And was considered ready to go yesterday when we could have made the trade. And karstens was not on the dl for any chronic pain or something that will be bothering him again. And certainly, him and Alan Horne are a better package then what the Bosox offered. The fact that cash is saying they were asking for too much is almost hard to believe. With Wang and Hughes ready for the majors, chamberlain and Kennedy in triple A and Moose and Pettitte each very big possibilities of coming back next yr, we dont even need karstens or Horne more likely. And neither of them will prolly be anything more than a quality fourth or fifth starter – all the others have a chance to be aces. And not only would we have gotten gagne to solidify the bullpen along with chamberlain but almost as important we would have kept him away from the sox bullpen which has been on of the best in baseball already this yr. I just never know what cash is thinking and I really never believe what comes out of his mouth. Half the time it isnt consistent with the rest of the information presented to us – if cash is correct and texas would accept nothing less than ian kennedy or phil hughes many questions come up in my mind. One, how could texas possibly think we would trade off our future and the two best prospects still in our farm system (minus tabata maybe) for a two month rental. Two, gagne does come with his health and consistency questions and is therefore not really worth a top prospect by any teams point of view. Third, why do we have to give up our top prospects for him but boston only his to give up any young major league ready starter irrelevant of their real talent? Fourth, why wouldnt karstens be considered a major league ready starter and on the same level as gabbard as he had very similar numbers last yr as gabbard put up this yr in about the same amount of innings? Fifth, if texas was asking for hughes or kennedy or chamberlain why wasnt the redsox forced to give up Clay Buckholtz or one of the other top prospects? Answer me those cashman, answer me those.

  89. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 8:15 pm

    I don’t think it’s Cashman’s question to answer – I think it’s Daniels’.

A small rumor around the mill is that I heard that Cash refused to relinquish any of the arod money as well… but that’s unsubstanitated.

  90. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 8:15 pm

“I hope this isn’t the Alex we see in the playoffs.”

um, it’s the alex we’ve seen in the playoffs for the last 2 1/2 series. he was cruising along fine this year, but this 500 hr thing is clearly weighing on him, same way joining the 40/40 club did.

can’t blame the guy, but, yeah, you hope he responds a little differently to the pressure that october would provide, should they make the playoffs.

  91. passer by August 1st, 2007 at 8:16 pm

Appears to me he is trying to hit it out of the park and get it over with instead of letting it happen. He should just let it happen. Easier to say I guess.

  92. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Betimit is on the lineup card for tonight’s game. YES showed a closeup of it and Betimit is listed as an available position player. No visual yet on him sitting in the dugout though…

Re Gagne, read the mlb.com on him in the news section. He is quoted as saying the idiots have been a favorite and he tht he is here to win a world series. Maybe – doubtful, but whatever.

Let us all remember these quotes as he enters the off season. Let them have him, in my opinion he is a 2 month rental player at best and for what? A handful of innings? Not worth giving up potential front line starters for next season.

The Yanks are entering a similar phase as 1996. A slough of young players that if you remember, started a great dynasty. Jeter, Posada, Pettitte, Mariano, etc – all home grown and ready to kick some serious ass.

    Cleveland – Texas tied 4-4
    Boston losing 3-1

Seattle is not a legitimate contender – no worries there.

  93. CB August 1st, 2007 at 8:21 pm

This notion that somehow ARod being “stuck” at 499 is a preview of what we are going to see in the playoffs is quite a stretch.

He’s done poorly over 20 at bats. He’s been the best player in baseball not only over this year but arguably over the past decade.

All you need to do is look at what he’s done in the ninth inning this year.

    That’s pressure. And he’s thrived.

Personal mild stones make ball players press but that’s not the same as the pressure involved in tense situations like the playoffs.

The closest approximation of that is the stretch run (which we’re not at yet), ninth inning situation, and at bats with runners in scoring position.

ARod is fine. Don’t make too much out of a small handful of at bats.

  94. JSL August 1st, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Seriously Dave, have you seen any info that contradicts Cashman with regard to Gagne? Everything I’ve seen indicates Texas wanted Melky or Kennedy. I have also read that Cashman offered Clippard and Karstens, then Clippard and Marquez, and was turned down. Now, are those better packages than what Boston offered? Maybe, maybe not, but all that matters is what deal Texas preferred. Cashman can’t control other teams’ decisions. Your issue is with the Rangers’ FO, not Cashman.

I also think you greatly underestimate the fact that Gabbard was currently pitching well. As YFiB said, if Karstens had been healthy and pitching like that, we might have had a deal. Again, you can’t blame Cashman because Jon Daniels overvalued recent performance.

  95. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 8:24 pm

doug niman – what’s up, man? how the hell are you? been a long time, maybe since the WM3 benefit with earle, eddie spaghetti, etc. drop me a line sometime.

okay, so if it’s not a case of “this is who he is now” with pettitte, what is it? he’s not hurt, it’s not mechanics, and he’s typically a better 2nd half pitcher, yet he’s been positively pedestrian for well over a month now. there seems to be somebody on base every inning and, for the most part, they’re reaching because they’re hitting him. he’s not walking a ton of guys, but he seems to be in bad counts too often. i don’t know what to chalk it up to, but he’s clearly nowhere near what he was doing the first two months of the season.

scary stuff, hope everyone is okay. :(

  97. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 8:25 pm

    Dave,

You have raised a valid point and something I was concerned about too. I think Texas wanted an outfielder and a pitcher for Gagne. Boston may just have been the better match. Even if we could match the pitching, I doubt Thompson or any of our kid outfielders could have done it.

Cashman also said Horne was not available for Gagne.

  98. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 8:27 pm

From what I gathered in the press, it seems that the Red Sox let go of some good talent to get Gagne.

Again, we have to really look at the value of what we give up to get Gagne – let the Red Sox give up top prospects – that can only help us later.

He wants to close. Is he really going to re-sign with Pimplebutt as their closer?

  99. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 8:28 pm

72 pitches in the 4th – pettitte needs to stop dabbling and start throwing strikes.

    gabbard’s probably a #4 or 5 on a good team, a #3 on a bad team.

    murphy’s a very good 4th outfielder.

beltre’s 17 years old, has a ton of potential.

they gave up some talent to get gagne, but there’s not a hughes, melky or chamberlain in there.

I got a question. Is Edwar gonna be called up like you said, or most likely not for a little while? Cause soon the pen is gonna be too crowded. Right now it’s Mo, Farnsworth, Villone, Myers, Karstens, Bruney, and Henn. I’m assuming Bruney and Henn are gone for Hughes and Joba, but Edwar could cause someone to be DFA.

Also, who was DFA for Karstens to be on the 40 man? Reese? Bean? Basak?

  117. Big Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 8:36 pm

I’m going out on a lim and saying that Duncan is a legitimate big leaguer. I am well aware of the spencers of the world but this guy has a tremendous swing and was doing this in AAA ball all year.

Its a shame that Duncan will more than likely get sent down soon. Oh well.

    BJ

  118. CB August 1st, 2007 at 8:37 pm

I don’t see what the mystery of the Texas Boston deal is or why this seems so difficult to digest.

Jon Daniels is considered one of the worst GM’s and talent evaluators in baseball. He’s a number cruncher with limited experience looking at talent.

He traded Alfonso Soriano for Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge, and Armando Galarraga.

Then he traded Chris Young, Sledge and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez to the San Diego Padres for pitchers Adam Eaton and Akinori Otsuka, and catcher Billy Killian.

Those are two of the worst trades made in baseball over the past 5 years.

Daniels did well in trading Tex. But why is it surprising that he probably made another bad deal in trading Gagne.

He most likely put a lot of stock in Gabbard being left handed and having some success at the majors. Just because Yankee fans think Gabbard and Murphy are marginal at best has nothing to do with how Daniels looks at it and his track record backs that up.

This is the guy who gave away Chris Young – Young may win the era title in the NL this year. He just gave him away.

  119. Alquimista August 1st, 2007 at 8:37 pm

    Duncan is phenomenal. Period. Jeeeeeeeh….

  120. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 8:37 pm

If duncan homers again, Cash will be hard pressed to send him down.

  121. Global Warming August 1st, 2007 at 8:38 pm

    BJ,
I think he can become a player that somewhat resembles an Adam Dunn.

I agree though that he will sadly be sent down for soon. Meh.

  122. Alquimista August 1st, 2007 at 8:38 pm

Oh, sorry, I was too impressed that I forgot to ask. What is the record of… say, the fastest pace in collecting homers since debut in MLB?

  123. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 8:39 pm

lucky for jeter arod’s quest for 500 is obscuring jeter’s slump.

  124. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 8:39 pm

The Yankees are starting the month as a hitting and scoring machine. I haven’t seen so many homers from different players in one game in a long time. Sweet!

  125. River Ave Report August 1st, 2007 at 8:39 pm

“If duncan homers again, Cash will be hard pressed to send him down.”

He has 5 HR in 22 AB. He should already be staying.

  126. Jim Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 8:39 pm

There was absolutely no reason that Torre should’ve went with Duncan over Damon in today’s game. Damon is hitting and doesn’t look like he’s wearing down.

So the fact that he did make the call and Duncan put one out. That’s a +1 to Torre’s karma with me.

And I have to be honest, I LOVE the forearm bash. That’s what I grew up remembering when the As were like today’s Yankees.

  127. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 8:40 pm

Can we as Yankee fans ask for more of a great offense as we have now to help out our pitching?

  128. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 8:41 pm

Kasey! Wow. Thanks for recognizing me here. A Yankee fan huh? Very nice to see that. I am fine, doing well and working with Gerald Collier right now – getting him rolling again. I did his new website geraldcollier.net and am just helping out where I can. Other than that, working playing a little – I am a lefty and just picked up a sweet 89 Strat. Will try to catch you at one of the upcoming Seattle shows – a few are when I am out of town, but maybe the Sept. 6th show.

Hey all – Kasey is an excellent singer songwriter, visit his site and check him out…

OK – it’s a Bomber party all over again. For shame all of you that said we would fall to a lefty. Puh-lease! Shelly just pounded one…

I have had the same questions about Andy for awhile as well. I come home from work looking forward to seeing him pitch and yeah, he is basically getting it done, but man it seems like he is working his ass off. He’s rarely lights out anymore – but he is getting it done. His losses were mostly nights when the bats went to sleep.

  129. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 8:41 pm

Man red sox look to be starting to tank a wee bit

  130. Jim Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 8:41 pm

  132. Stuart August 1st, 2007 at 8:42 pm

screw Duncan going down they need to play the hot hand as long as it lasts..

Thursday Abreu rests, damon in CF, melky in Rf nad Duncan DH..

5 HRs in like 23 AB’s play him to he cools off, screw the vets ego.. Play the hot hand………..

  133. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 8:43 pm

Now if Rangers can keep helping us by holding the Indians at bay.

  134. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 8:43 pm

I am not sold on Duncan yet. IMO he’s the type of player who mashes bad pitching. The Adam Dunn comparison may be apt. All his homers have come when the Yanks have had a healthy lead.

Still, you have to ride the hot hand. Duncan gives some much needed pop from the right side. It’s not coming from elsewhere. When Giambi comes back it should mean jettisoning Cairo, and keeping Duncan around until he cools.

  135. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 8:43 pm

    We have a Wilson signing.

  136. Big Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 8:44 pm

“If duncan homers again, Cash will be hard pressed to send him down.”

Cash is already hard pressed to make the move, but he will. The guy is hitting a homerun for every 4-5 at bats. He has done it to all fields. He has done it off the bench.
These aren’t weak homers to the short porch either.

Duncan is another big reason why trading proctor for another so so bench utility guy on the eve of giambi and minkys return makes little to no sense. We don’t need betemit’s glove, and we already have better offensive players. Further, it will force a promising, exciting young guy with contagious enthusiasm back to the minors despite resplendant excellence.

    BJ

  137. Enter Sandman August 1st, 2007 at 8:44 pm

Torre has to use Mariano tonight or be faced with him getting rusty. He needs the work.

  138. corsari August 1st, 2007 at 8:46 pm

I too think Duncan will stay (unless he starts slumping of course). The Yankees don’t have many right-handed bats and especially not for power. He brings pop off the bench and remember, we’ve struggled against lefties this year (10-17 or so)

  139. Big Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 8:46 pm

“I think Duncan will be staying. I think Cairo will find himself the odd man out.”

The yanks are gonna have to move more than Caro with two guys guys coming back, depending on how many pitchers they decide to keep up. Eventually Duncan will slump and get sent down. It will probably be a very short slump too.

    BJ

yes thats what I mean. We really need an edit button. LOL

  146. anthony ca August 1st, 2007 at 8:49 pm

Duncan hits to all fields? Come on now. I root hard for the guy too, but he pulls the ball into left every time I’ve seen him hit a home run. Granted yesterday’s he pulled from the outside of the plate which was sort of impressive, but Duncan won’t really be a good hitter until SOs come down and he can hit the other way. Right now he’s a nice little pop off the bench

  147. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 8:49 pm

anyone know what pettitte is clocking at?

a’s beat the tigers again – amazing.

  154. Keith August 1st, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Duncan will stay…Cairo will be the odd man out, I look at Betemit as a much better version of Cairo hitting wise, maybe a notch lower defensively…….Giambi and Duncan can DH based on the pitcher, Damon can play left, Matsui right, Cabrera needs to stay in, he is playing too well….Abreu can sit sometimes…what all of this means is we now have a very strong bench something we have been complaining about all year…at any time we can have Betemit, Giambi, Damon, or Duncan on the bench like Pete said earlier today…Torre has options now…as for the bullpen….Chamberlain and Ramirez should come up, Bruney and Henn down….then we’ll see how that goes until September 1 callups….

  155. passer by August 1st, 2007 at 8:54 pm

Anthony c – “Duncan hits to all fields? Come on now. I root hard for the guy too, but he pulls the ball into left every time I’ve seen him hit a home run.”

Actually, correct me if I am wrong, but HR #2 was a blast to the right-center bleachers.

You are right, he is a classic pull hitter, but give him time – he has already gone deep the other way.

    Andy escapes!

“Is it possible the Yankees have the best pitching in the minors?”

Not possible, they DO have the best pitrching in the minors. And it isn’t really even close.

  171. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:01 pm

    dontfirecash,

McCutchen was very good. Very much in command. Got in some trouble in his last inning on a error, base hit and sacrifice that left it second and third with one out.

Struck out the next two hitters to shut down the rally.

That’s a nice sign, especially for a guy’s first outing at AA.

I know he’s older but he does have very good stuff. Low to mid 90’s fastball and an absolutely killer change – may be the second best in the organization after Edwar. I was hoping he’d get promoted earlies as he was just too good for tampa.

He’s got talent and hopefully he can move faster now if he does well in Trenton. Numbers are getting to be an issue. Matt DeSalvo and Igawa (pitching very badly in scranton tonight) can’t just take up slots in AAA.

  172. migames August 1st, 2007 at 9:02 pm

Man I can’t wait till Alex finally gets his 500 homer. Then maybe he and I both can calm down when he gets to the plate. Lol!. Lately everytime he’s batting I’m on the edge of my seat. I’m sure he is too and maybe Jeet feels the same way he hasn’t hit a homer in a while either. LOL Just get it over with already so I can get back to enjoying watching Yankees beating the stink out of everybody. LOL

  176. Keith August 1st, 2007 at 9:05 pm

They have to forget Giambi’s contract and do whats right for the team, he will have to occasionally sit….Tino sat in the World Series in 96 for Cecil Fielder…..Chili Davis was on the bench at times…I know they had lower contracts but we are the Yankees, forget the money, let Giambi prove his way to play more and keep Duncan playing against lefties, we need that righty bat vs. lefties……period!……Arod seems to have this 500 HR in his head…first time all year he is starting to look like last year…is he just so mental that he puts too much pressure on himself, like in the playoffs…his career high is 0-21 in Texas, he is now 0-20…hmmmm…..

  177. Drew August 1st, 2007 at 9:06 pm

No surprise with McCutchen. At some point, all the good young arms come through Tampa and the Florida State League has all major league parks for dimensions with spring training there. It’s a good test.
Can’t remember when the Yankees had so many good arms in the system at one time. It’s almost outrageous.

Yes, that would be the RIGHT thing to do. But this team is run by businessmen, not baseball guys. I mean, a few decades ago, it was “I do NOT pay Reggie Jackson 3 million dollars to sit on the BENCH!”

I too hope they don’t repeat the Sheffield debacle of last year. That was just miserable.

    Andy has 2 123 innings in a row…

  201. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:27 pm

    CB,
I am surprised Patterson is still in Trenton as he has dominated all season.

  202. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Where’s Jabba? 7 innings at Scranton in the books and No Joba or Ohlendorf.

  203. Kj August 1st, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Frosted Flakes – I thought the point of a commercials was to attract veiwers to your program. I dont think fox news gets that.

  204. Keith August 1st, 2007 at 9:28 pm

From Dan Graziano in today’s Star Ledger about Torre…I agree with him and have thought Torre should have been let go after 2004 collapse and then again last year after the Detroit series, seems like we are stuck with Torre and different folks within the organization don’t like it……

Torre was playing the company man, speaking hypothetically about a call-up that hasn’t yet happened and insisting that he would, indeed, use Chamberlain if the young man were added to his bullpen.

But some in the organization are skeptical. Torre has frustrated people in the front office with his loyalty to slumping veterans and his refusal to use the players (Shelley Duncan, Edwar Ramirez, Andy Phillips when he first came up) they have promoted from their system. He voiced strong opposition to proposed deals for outfielder Milton Bradley and infielder Morgan Ensberg — deals the Yankees eventually turned down in part because they believed those players would just rot on the bench. Duncan, who was a budding cult hero at Yankee Stadium a week and a half ago, played in just two games on the road trip that followed his big-splash debut weekend.

So as the Yankees mulled different available bench players in advance of the deadline, the common off-the-record refrain from Yankees officials was “our manager won’t play him anyway.”

Andy finally looks more relaxed one the mound.

  207. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:30 pm

Not that its a huge deal or anything, but Petite’s ERA is back under 4

  208. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:30 pm

    dontfirecash,

I agree. He’s been terrific and I also think the should be in Scranton.

Why is Colter Bean on the team? Patterson is 6ft 7 and actually has decent stuff. They should give him a shot – throws hard and has good control. Maybe he just is that late bloomer. Don’t know. Maybe his fastball is just Farnsworth straight?

He should get a shot – you’re not going to find out what he is until he gets to Scranton.

  209. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:31 pm

wow 12 homers in 2 games

  210. Keith August 1st, 2007 at 9:31 pm

  211. mel August 1st, 2007 at 9:31 pm

Dang. Jeter just slapped at that ball.

  212. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:32 pm

    CB,
I saw Patterson pitch on TV a few weeks ago when Joba’s game was broadcast on CN8, he does have a pretty straight fastball, but he commands it well unlike Farns.

  213. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:32 pm

and thats why people dont panic about jeter’s slumps. he slumps but just when you notice. he gets a big hit (importance or a hr) and its like he never had one. or it could be when a rod does he shows frustration when jeter does he still looks loose (laughing on the bench)

  214. Gary August 1st, 2007 at 9:32 pm

With Karstens and Betemit on the roster and Joba and Giambi following soon, all things point to Cairo, Bruney, and Henn being on the bubble.
Shelley would have to cool down in a hurry to be sent down.

  215. Mike August 1st, 2007 at 9:32 pm

    Um… Jeter homered…

He’s probably making up for yesterday.

That’s 4 HRs today, Phillips and A-Rod being the only ones who haven’t homered in yesterday’s game or today’s.

  216. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 9:33 pm

The Captain finally got his homer tonight. That makes Alex alone without hitting one. Come one Rod let’s get this over with dude.

  226. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Dude relax, Joba is in trenton

  227. Kj August 1st, 2007 at 9:38 pm

    Joba in in binghamton

  233. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Nigel, you’re right, Ryan got a million in 1979. (Jim Johnson, notice how I admitted making a mistake, try it sometime Gagne boy)

Anyway, as I recall Winfield got $1M starting in 1981 but had escaltions in his contract that made it worth over $2M by the time he was done. I assume that was part of the reason George and Dave did not get along. We may have to wait until the ESPN series on the 1989 Yankees coming in 2009.

  234. Kj August 1st, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  237. Global Warming August 1st, 2007 at 9:41 pm

  238. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:42 pm

    Kill-Schill,

Joba had to go to New York to get a passport. Scranton is playing ottawa and he needs it to go to Canada.

They wanted to keep him on schedule so they decided to have him pitch an inning in trenton as he couldn’t physically get back to Scranton for game time.

  239. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Does anyone think Giuseppe Franco would put his name on a product he doesn’t believe in?

  240. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm

Kill Schill-(ing) calm down. They demoted him because they wanted him closer to NY. He will pitch out of the pen today or tomorrow and if he comes thru it okay he will likely be promoted Saturday.

Chill out before you know all the facts!

  241. Joe from Long Island August 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm

To whomever interested…It was reported on the MVN site (and I think the SWB blog site) that Joba was sent to NYC today to get a passport (presumably for going into Canada), and would not be available to be the SWB team when they played in Ottawa tonight. For that reason, it was reported that he might do an inning for Trenton Thursday, in prep. for a weekend callup.

  242. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm

    jennifer: GOT EM!

  243. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm

Joba is taking the mound right now for Trenton.

    They are playing Binghamton.

Cashman sucks. That makes a lot of sense.

  244. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:43 pm

    1st batter
    pitch one – fastball, ball
    pitch two – swinging strike
    pitch three – ball
pitch four – swinging strike, 97mph
pitch five – swinging strike, 98 mph

  245. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Chamberlain is with TRENTON, not Scranton because he was in NY getting his passport.

Originally, he was supposed to pitch TOMORROW in Trenton. But, evidently, he is now pitching in tonight’s game.

  246. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Okay this is why Joe makes me scratch my head. Wouldn’t now be a good time to get Jeff into the game? Why use one of your best when he has been used alot.

  247. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 9:44 pm

KJ, I’ve been counting to ten since the trade deadline expired.

  256. Joe Monte August 1st, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Kay says, “Luis Vizcaino will now take a more prominent role in the bullpen now that Scott Proctor now has been traded.”

Are you kidding me? This Kay is the worst announcer ever. I’m so tired of Kay, Sterling and Oh my goodness gracious lady from Boston. Can we get some new blood in the tv and radio booth?

  257. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:47 pm

haha im sitting in a room with my dad. the sox are on tv and im watching the yanks on the computer and talking to you fine people. hazel mae comes on tv. i hate her, he loves her. i go “oh christ”. he opens his eyes after being fast asleep and his eyes are wide open and she looks concerned or sad. he goes whats wrong hazel in a voice ive never heard him use… then when she disappears he falls back asleep. classic sox fan. i thought youd all enjoy that. i hate her

  258. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:48 pm

Sorry I didn’t give you guys pitch speeds, the stupid mets announcers weren’t too helpful, they also didn’t say what every pitch was, but I tried to give you guys as much as I could

  259. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 9:48 pm

Luis Vizcaino’s arm will be the next one to fall off. I HATE Joe’s bullpen mismanagement.

  260. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Joba strikes out two. Two innings in relief 6 batters faced. 5 strikeouts.

Interesting sede report on the radio also.

There’s been some debate as to why Joba needed a passport. I think Waldman said that he needed it to go to Ottawa. Some other speculated that it was because he might get a call up for the Toronto Series.

The radio announcers said that he does not need a passport to get up to Ottawa because the minor league teams travel by bus. Minor league teams going to Canada don’t use

You only need a passport to get to Canada if you are flying as the big league club would.

  261. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Ah foget it, joba sucks. He didn’t strike out all 3 hitters!! LOL

  262. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:49 pm

uh oh sox making a run

  263. Keith August 1st, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Jennifer…I agree, why not go with Karstens right now and save Vizcaino…Torre manages afraid of rookies, guys he doesn’t trust in the pen……did you see my posts from a little while ago referencing the Graziano article from today on Torre..check it out..it may answer why Vizcaino is in right now….

  264. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:51 pm

yea yankeejosh. id say everything else he does: manages egos, inspires guys, puts together lineups, etc. he does extremely well. but his bullpen usage just sucks.

  265. Frosted Flakes August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

just great, baltimore’s pen is about to give it away

  266. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Chamberlain may pitch one more inning on Saturday, then the next stop may be NY.

Can’t wait to see him. He is the real deal.

  267. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Big Papi with the clutch double cuts the O’s lead to 3-2 and Boston has bases loaded and nobody out.

  268. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

    CB,
and the one guy he didn’t K broke his bat…. I cannot wait for Joba

  269. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Cb, sounds to me like a call up to the big club. He was called up to Scranton a few weeks ago (right?) so they would know that he needed one to go to Ottawa than.

I found this on the net

By next year — January 1, 2008 — you’ll need a passport to drive into the U.S.A. from Canada or Mexico. Many RV’ers and vacationers on road trips think nothing of driving across into Canada. Now you’ll need more than a drivers licence to come home.

  270. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

    Keith,

And this is why using Joba in the pen scares me. Either he’ll never get used or Torre will “trust” him and he’ll get over-used.

Karstens or Bruney should have been in today.

  271. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:52 pm

This is why those first few months killed the Yanks.

  272. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:53 pm

i wonder where those people are who were ridiculing cashman for “not getting more for randy johnson [and his dying body]“

  273. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Good for Andy he had some run support tonight.

  274. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

oh sh** there it is boston leads

  275. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

You can’t keep guys drydocked in the bullpen. Vizcaino needs to work. He didn’t pitch since Sunday and he goes an inning today. That’s the correct way of doing it.

Now, if Karstans is ready, they can use him in the 9th. If not, then Villone probably gets the call.

There’s a fine line between rust and waste. Torre doesn’t always straddle it well but, I have no problems with him using Vizcaino tonight. Keeps him in the flow.

  276. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Youk with the super clutch double and the Sox surge ahead and NY will not catch them.

  277. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

and the Yanks win tonight is MEANINGLESS.

  278. Jim Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 9:54 pm

    Jeff,

Don’t be a dick. It’s a quote. Whether it was per year or overall, the meaning is the same. Stop trying to instigate.

  279. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:55 pm

    TONIGHT’S WIN IS MEANINGLESS

  280. Frosted Flakes August 1st, 2007 at 9:55 pm

    {{shakes head}}
    the *BIG issue* in using Vizcaino in a 7-1 game is that he won’t be available tomorrow, when he may be need in a close game. {{shakes head}}

  281. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 9:55 pm

I can’t remember but did Pete say anything about when we’ll see our new catcher?

  282. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Sure a good thing those April/May games aren’t important!

  283. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Mo is rusty too! He last pitched on Sunday.

  284. T.J. August 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Man red sox just scored. 4-3 sox 1 out and two on.

  285. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:56 pm

Listen to SJ people, Viz hasn’t pitched since Sunday..the guy needs to pitch and if he didn’t people would be complaining about how he is being underused.

  286. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 9:57 pm

hahaha john hahaha your last post is the dumbest piece i have ever read. if all you can do is be happy when your team gets to the playoffs get out, winning is never wasted because in the long run it doesnt matter who loses the yanks winning helps them in the wild card… its too early. and wow yanks win game is a waste? WHAT wow just wow. im incoherent cause how do you counter stupidity with a coherent rebuttal.. just wow

  287. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 9:57 pm

TJ, he has caught 2-3 games already. He will probably catch Roger tomorrow day after night.

    Damn Jorge es en fuego.

  288. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:57 pm

“you think the game is meaningless. So STOP WATCHING!!”

    Nope.

You idiots think Boston is going to fade. My question is when does this so-called “fade” begin?

  289. Joe from Long Island August 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Clemens may not make it out of the 5th-6th tomorrow – NYC is going to dreadfully hot. Makes sense to hold Karstens, who is conditioned to go multiple innings, for tomorrow’s game, and not go through multiple one-inning guys. If that’s the logic.

  290. Frosted Flakes August 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Wow — look at that _wooden_ Indian

  291. CB August 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Joba is just extraordinary and out of the bull pen he looks like a beast.

His fastball and slider are just devastating. He’ll have bumps but big league hitters are not going to be able to make consistent contact against him.

14 college pitchers were drafted ahead of him last year.

Joba was drafted with the 41st pick. The red sox drafted two pitchers ahead of him, including a pitcher they took at draft pick number 40. Both those sox pitchers are in A ball.

  292. John August 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

another huge clutch hit for Boston. they now lead 5-3. And the Yanks game is MEANINGLESS>

  293. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Jim, all you do is call names. I would like you to just say you were wrong the other night when you broke a story saying “Gagne Trade To Yankees Nearly Complete”, it was just irresponsible journalism. When I call you out on it you accused me of whining and now being a dick. Take a look in the mirror smart guy. Just say the words “I was wrong”, unless you are like Fonzie and can’t say it, but I suspect you are more like Pinky Tuscadero.

  301. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 10:00 pm

  302. Jordan Meisner August 1st, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Following the game online and saw Robby just got hit after the Posada HR. Did it look intentional? Is there a brawl?! TELL ME!

Jordan it wasn’t intentional. No brawl, Joe was even wondering why he was thrown out.

  310. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 10:02 pm

Yeah, wins are meaningless. Isn’t school suppose to be starting for some of the 12 year olds?

Vizcaino will be available tomorrow. He’s not Farnsworth, he can work back to back days.

It wasn’t even a tough inning. Lighten up.

  311. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:02 pm

  313. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:03 pm

the yankees’ telecast is sponsored by Jack Daniels – somewhere, Sam McDowell is smiling.

  316. Adam August 1st, 2007 at 10:04 pm

    Pete,

Can you please stop using wins to judge a pitcher? Wang leading baseball in wins since 2006 does not make him a great pitcher, which is what I think you’re trying to do.

  317. Jim Johnson August 1st, 2007 at 10:04 pm

    Jeff,

Where did I say 3 million per year? Quit trying to pick fights on the internet, you look ridiculous. The Yankees are winning. Just enjoy the game and stop being so antagonistic.

  318. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:04 pm

    Sj 12? I don’t put him a day over 10.

  319. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:05 pm

    Okajima in the game now!

Sure a good thing that idiot Cashman didn’t think he was any good!

  320. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:05 pm

one pitch, one out for Okajima!

  321. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:05 pm

  322. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:06 pm

Okajima is better than anyone in the NY pen other than MO!

And Cashman didn’t want him! LOL!

    Enjoy Vizcaino and Farnsy!

  323. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 10:06 pm

    Probably right Jennifer.

Its what happens when the parents are smoking crack in the other room and they let junior play on the computer.

  324. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:06 pm

well it looks like we’ll have to wait another day of #500. I think Jorge misspoke when he said Alex would hit 2 today. I think he said i’ll hit 2 today.

  325. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:06 pm

hahahah john? ahhaha was that homer? hahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  326. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:07 pm

    OH BOY #500!!!

I suppose when the game doesn’t mean anything, stats are all that can hold a fan’s attention.

  327. Adam August 1st, 2007 at 10:07 pm

“You idiots think Boston is going to fade. My question is when does this so-called “fadeâ€? begin?”

You must not watch the Red Sox much, the fade began in June. Of course they’d already built a big enough lead where it doesn’t matter at all. Well, at least not in relation to them actually making the playoffs.

  328. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:07 pm

They probably smoked crack and dropped him on his head a few times as a child. God I wish we had to log in, so we could ignore the idiots.

  330. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 10:07 pm

John, great use of over dramatic grammar! “Super Clutch” and “surge”. Wow. You really have impacted our forum tonight!!

Let’s give it up for John and his superior command of the English language. Thanks to your dollars and generous donations, Red Sox fans can learn to use the Internet too!

    hooray for everyone!!

Meaningless? No. The Yankees need to just do their job – and obviously they are doing that on a more consistent basis than your idiots.

Meaningless – you posting here and for that matter, me wasting my time replying.

  331. mel August 1st, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Does anyone else think Jim Johnson owes blog readers an apology for quoting as fact bad information or at the very least just admit he was wrong? I can’t be the only one who wants blog writers to be held repsonsible for yellow journalism, can I?

  335. Dave K August 1st, 2007 at 10:08 pm

    John-

If you are going to post stupid things that nobody but yourself cares to read, can you at least do so much less frequently.

Wins are not useless. That is a stupid statement. For someone to say the playoffs are out of the question when they are 3 GB with 60 to play – now that is stupid.

Please go away – this is a lot more fun to read when every other post isn’t “this win is meaningless”

  336. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:09 pm

  340. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:10 pm

5-4 Boston after 8, so put this one in the win column!

    Another meaningless win for NY!

  341. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:11 pm

    MEANINGLESSSSSSS

  342. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 10:11 pm

I think the Gagne trade is showing its effect. Okajima has beeen lights out and how is he rewarded, with a demotion to the 7th inning. Japanese value honor strongly and the Red Sox dishonored him. The Gagne trade will be the undoing of the Red Sox.

  343. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:11 pm

jennifer i had a feeling that was the case. i was just making small talk. is anyone else in awe of the switch that viz has undergone ever since “mariano talked to him”

  344. Terry NH August 1st, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Alan Horner after tonight’s win. 10-3 with a 2.32 ERA. Another great pitcher for the Yanks staff!!

  345. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

7 GIANT GAMES AHEAD OF THE YANKS!

What’s the point of NY even showing up?

  346. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Nice win tonight!! I’ll have to listen to the game tomorrow. Damn afternoon games!!

  347. BBB August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Wow I see the trolls are even coming out when we are winning now! Sweatin’ the Yanks pretty bad now huh? Heh. :D

Anyway, this Charlie 7 ERA whatever the ***ever his name is needs to get his ass kicked! Throwing at Cano cause we have owned their pitching so far – umkay how bout you and your team pitch better if you don’t like all these homers ass****?! Jebus!

Betemit in the field for the 1st time – holla! Alex will do it tomorrow – I think he wanted to wait for my friend that is goin to the game :)

  348. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

  349. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

what is your take on E.Duncan? Still a prospect? I know he’s been terrible so far at AAA, but he is still young.

  350. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

    The Yanks are buried.

  351. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:12 pm

  352. Bronx Bomber August 1st, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Sometimes I wonder what game some of you people are watching with your critical clamor. Pettite pitches a good game, Posada is having the season of his life and Duncan hit another homer. And all you want to do is sit and criticize Torre. Get a life or get a job. I wonder if you guys ever played this game. I love baseball because it requires so many skills from every player. It is an intricate game and wonderful to watch. Sit back and enjoy for crying out loud. We even had great relief pitching. Someone must be doing something right.

  353. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:13 pm

    7 games, Ben!

  354. Dave K August 1st, 2007 at 10:13 pm

would somebody else care to explain to John what the wild card is. He clearly thinks that being down 7 games in a division makes a team “meaningless”

  355. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 10:13 pm

    Terry,
Al HORNE pitched yesterday…he is sick though.

IT DOESN’T MATTER! NY will be watching Boston play in the postsason.

    What a hilarious season.

  359. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:15 pm

dave k… he knows the wild card very well hes had to use it since he was born hahaha

  360. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 10:15 pm

Yankees are now 9 games over for the first time all season. They are 21-8 in their last 29. Hopefully they will be just 2 out of the wildcard later tonight.

  361. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:15 pm

but seriously folks how many of the past years have they had to us it?

  362. Adam August 1st, 2007 at 10:15 pm

You figure a Red Sox fan like John would know all about the wild card. Without it, he wouldn’t even know what winning a World Series felt like.

  363. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Boston’s come-from-behind win tonight is exactly why NY could never catch them. NY doesn’t have the balls to rally like that. Baltimore kicked their asses all over the ballpark last weekend and once they got behind, they bent over and took the loss straight up the ass.

  364. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Typical idiot – bad speller and always worrying – attacking like a scared cat.

You see, we never worry. We expect to be in the post season, while the idiots hope, pray and sheepishly hide behind a keyboard offering nothing.

  365. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm

    You would think so Adam.

  366. Bronx Bomber August 1st, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Yes Boston what a glorious history. How many world series championships was that? Is John short for PortaJohn, because all you do is spew…

  367. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:18 pm

“Yankees are now 9 games over for the first time all season. They are 21-8 in their last 29.

And they can’t even dent Boston’s lead.

And Cleveland is not losing this game at home, sorry to tell you.

SO THE WIN IS MEANINGLESS. AND THE SEASON IS MEANINGLESS

    The Yanks can’t.

    deal??!!

  375. YankeeJosh August 1st, 2007 at 10:20 pm

    Bronx Bomber,

Can you deny that Joe Torre has a pattern of burning out relievers? Steve Karsay, Paul Quantril, Tanyon Sturtze, and now Scott Proctor. Whether he makes the right move or wrong moves, given his history it’s fair to criticize him.

It’s baseball, and part of the fun and madness is second guessing.

  377. SJ44 August 1st, 2007 at 10:20 pm

I think its going to be tough for Eric Duncan. I never really saw what others saw in him.

I think it was the classic case of an overhyped local (NY/NJ area) kid. Same for Craig Hansen in that regard.

He was also the victim of horrible farm system mismanagement, as he was rushed along to justify the draft pick.

I think he is a limited guy who probably needs a change of organization if he is going to ever have a shot at the majors.

  378. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:21 pm

  384. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:23 pm

    Dave,

Seriously, you should savor those years because the present is brutal for the Yanks. You will be watching the Sox steamroll through the postseason this year.

  385. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:23 pm

BTW, Bruney had a good 9th tonight. I still believe in him and think he can get his mojo back! I am glad that he is the one who we are keeping on the team rather than Proctor of Farns – Bruney has more upside than the other 2 put together and I have a feeling we will see a strong comeback from him in the very near future.

GO YANKEES tomorrow!! I think Alex has a fine sense of irony and will thus hit the homer tomorrow to torture those of us who will be stuck at work, haha.

  414. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:30 pm

“Sorry the yankees win isn’t meaningless. It means they won’t drop back another game ”

And that means they stay home come playoff time!!

But that idiot Pete kept telling everyone how those April/May games just weren’t important…SURE, THEY WEREN’T LOL!

  415. jennifer August 1st, 2007 at 10:31 pm

Schill better question is how did he find this blog?

  416. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:31 pm

John, really, take a look at your keyboard and locate the Caps-lock key… Press it once. And then shut up.

Oh, btw, NY struggling against Baltimore? I seem to recall Sox lost to them just yesterday.

The win isn’t meaningless. It means we can’t lose a game on Boston, Cleveland or Seattle, and pick up one on Detroit. We’re chipping away, if we’d be getting closer each day, that would give a 40 game lead at the end of the season, so that won’t happen. And today might be one of those days, where we just don’t make up ground.

Oh btw, have to say the Yanks are looking very nice and relaxed right now, except A-Rod, but still everyone tries to do their best to help him through this.

  417. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:31 pm

  421. Dave K August 1st, 2007 at 10:34 pm

    Jennifer-

I can only imagine he searched for a Yankees blog in google. I mean what better way to enjoy yourself while watching your team play than to insult fans of the opposing teams on their blog, calling wins meaningless over and over as well as doing play by play of a game that he doesn’t understand is less important to us than the Cleveland games.

The funny thing is, guys like this only make it sweeter when we beat the Sox.. again.

  422. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:34 pm

guys bonds popped out if you didnt know/ care

  423. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Extra innings for our new favorite team Texas. Not only are they going to beat Cleveland for the 2nd consecutive night, but they fleeced Boston for their 3 best prospects for a two month rental! Boston will have to throw big money at free agents to attempt to make up for that silly move. Fukudome John!

  424. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:34 pm

Quite a connundrum: who to root for this weekend. Boston plays at Seattle.

    ABSOLUTELY!

LET’S COMPARE HOW BOSTON HITS THAT GUY AS OPPOSED TO THE YANKS, WHO JUST ROLLEDO OVER AND PLAYED GUTLESS AND DEAD AGAINST HIM. I CAN’T WAIT TO RUB YOUR NOSE IN IT TOMORROW!

  428. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 10:37 pm

Quite a connundrum: who to root for this weekend. Boston plays at Seattle.

root for seattle… they aren’t that far behind the angles anymore

  429. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:37 pm

Barry Bonds probably would pay my defense and anyone who has had to listen to Von Schilling for two seconds would support a duress defense.

  430. The artist formerly known as Ben from boston August 1st, 2007 at 10:38 pm

schill who cares the outcome all i ask is we drive our white bronco down the mass pike. and we should take out shonda while were at it. she is a retarded stepford wife

  431. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:39 pm

Well Jeff NJ, to be fair it’s not really their 3 best prospects, but yeah, it is a lot to pay for a 2-month rental, esp. given the fact that their bullpen was already quite strong. It seems more of an insurance move in that respect.
    Texas 1st & 2nd…

  432. This Year August 1st, 2007 at 10:39 pm

What a sad pathetic creature John is. I live in Boston (unfortunately), and, also unfortunately, he is typical. The inferiority complex as to New York is palpable. But we all know why. Got rings?

  433. pat m August 1st, 2007 at 10:40 pm

Every time I read some nonsense sent from a member of the Chowdahead society, all I can think of is the stench of stale beer and urine that is the aroma of Fenway Park….

  434. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:40 pm

    SEATTLE AHEAD 3-0.

    MEANINGLESS WIN FOR NY

  435. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 10:41 pm

RANGERS TAKE THE LEAD…. WHAT A MEANINGLESS GAME!

  436. Dave K August 1st, 2007 at 10:41 pm

looks like it should be 2 games back after tonight

  437. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Texas took the lead, the game was MEANINGFUL AFTERALL!

  438. mel August 1st, 2007 at 10:41 pm

    Wouter,

Did you see that play? Young pitcher.

  439. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:41 pm

Let’s, John, I guess you’re not much of a Sux fan. On May 13th, Guthrie threw 8.1 shut-out innings against the Beantown Babies.

  440. John August 1st, 2007 at 10:42 pm

YANKS WON’T OVERTAKE BOTH CLEVELAND (OR THE TIGERS)AND SEATTLE.

    THE EARLY MONTHS KILLED THEM.

AND THEY CAN’T WIN CLOSE GAMES.

KING FELIX IS ROCKING THE BALLPARK!

  441. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:42 pm

John, I thought you were going to update us on the Texas @ Cleveland game? Are you confused? You know which way is up?

I’ll help you: Texas scored a run, and now load the bases with nobody out.

    There, wasn’t that easy?

  442. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 10:42 pm

Texas has 2 on with no outs in the 9th. Oops! My bad, Texas goes up 7-6 on a bad throw to first. Looks like a Red Sox fan was wrong again.

How odd? What are the chances of that ever happening?

Intentional walk, bases loaded and did I say “no outs”?

  443. please pete August 1st, 2007 at 10:42 pm

    this place is awful sometimes.

  444. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:43 pm

John, don’t you think you should tend to your yeast infection instead of trolling Yankees’ sites?

  445. please pete August 1st, 2007 at 10:44 pm

i just took a really smelly dump

  446. Doug Niman August 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm

    8-6 on a sac fly – 1 out.

  447. Kill Schill-(ing) August 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm

    8-6 rangers.

  448. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 10:45 pm

It’s ok, there is one idiot here a night who always leaves with his tail between his legs (among other things), he is wrong, we will gain ground and are playing great. It is just a matter of time before the Yankees are in playoff position and he knows it.

  449. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:46 pm

John, Felix may be a good pitcher, but Seattle has other pitchers too. We’re not expecting to make up ground when the ace is starting (although we made up ground on Boston and “Ace” Beckett yesterday)…

Mel, I didn’t see the play, I was Gamedaying it, unfortunately. Will flip through the MLB.tv tomorrow. And now off to bed I guess, it’s 5 am here.

  450. sunny615 August 1st, 2007 at 10:48 pm

looks like we gained another game on the indians.

  451. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 10:48 pm

yeah well the tigers and indians have to play each other 8 more times which means the loser will be 500 or below for 8 games… That makes it so impossible when the yanks are only 2 games back.

Also they are only 1 game behind seattle. Really tough to make that up over 2 months…

i know i’m just talking to a brick wall here but really he should be looking at these because the red sox will be looking to try and make the wild card…

  452. Josh August 1st, 2007 at 10:49 pm

    Mel,

Ya he’s a new pitcher. He made an error throwing to 2nd instead of first on the first play, and then he slipped on the next play and overthrew to third.

  453. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:50 pm

Boy, there are some heads (/IP adresses) going to be rolling when Pete comes back…Quick, what’s an appropriate Police song for that?

  454. Mike S. August 1st, 2007 at 10:52 pm

    Good to see Joba’s inning.

Another thing about Trenton tonight…. Daniel McCutcheon (11-2, 2.50 at Tampa) was promoted, started for Trenton, and pitched 5 scoreless innings.

  455. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 10:52 pm

i’d put money on it but i doubt your mom pays you enough allowance.

  456. mel August 1st, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Is there something in the water or are red sox natives inbred?

  457. Bronx Bomber August 1st, 2007 at 10:53 pm

The artist formerly known as Ben from boston: “bronx bomber- i heard about that. apparently you have to get higher than a 5… there are two 4 year olds, a dog, and a goat on the blog”

You got that right and I heard that the goat actually raised the overall I.Q.

  458. Mike S. August 1st, 2007 at 10:53 pm

    Wouter,

Don’t Stand So Close to Me?

  459. STINKY PETE August 1st, 2007 at 10:54 pm

C’MON ROCCO, DON’T CHICKEN OUT! IF YOU REALLY THINK BOSTON WILL CHOKE THE DIVISON AWAY, THEN PUT SOME MONEY ON IT!

  460. Rich August 1st, 2007 at 10:54 pm

“Is there something in the water or are red sox natives inbred?”

we love that dirty water ;)

  461. Mike S. August 1st, 2007 at 10:55 pm

Stinky, you are a certain body part that befits your name. Here is hoping the Yanks get the wild card and upsets the Bosox in the ALCS….

  462. JOHN'S MOM August 1st, 2007 at 10:56 pm

HONEY IT’S TIME TO GO TO SLEEP

  463. Mike S. August 1st, 2007 at 10:56 pm

…and, Edwar has done well in SWB since being returned. Let’s see what Pimplebutt does if HE wasn’t used in 2 weeks.

  464. EY August 1st, 2007 at 10:57 pm

Can we ban these Red Sox trolls?
The caps are really annoying. These Boston fans narrowly escaped a loss today and are now trolling again.

I wonder why weren’t they trolling yesterday when their Cy Young candidate ace Beckett was on the mound and gave up 5 runs.

  465. STINKY PETE August 1st, 2007 at 10:57 pm

    SEATTLE UP 5-0.

ALL HAIL KING FELIX. HE’S BETTER THAN ANY YANKEE STARTER.

  466. Wouter August 1st, 2007 at 10:57 pm

Good suggestion Mike :o ). Or “Bombs Away” or something…

Bronx Bomber: it’s like when Met fans move to Boston, they actually raise the average IQ in BOTH NY and Boston…

  467. Joe Monte August 1st, 2007 at 10:57 pm

10 – 6 texas heading into the bottom of the 10th…that should be the discussion right now…love the cleveland bullpen!

  468. We Miss Paulie August 1st, 2007 at 10:58 pm

Why all of a sudden are we responding to these Boston trolls?

The Yankees decisively won, that really all that matters. If we keep playing like this, the lead is gone.

Boston, on the other hand, got knocked around for 7 innings and squeaked on out…after losgin last night. Man, I’m going to love it when the lead is 0 and the trolls have dug back into their holes just like they do about this time every year.

Boston fans have the “loser mentality” – they never win, and besides getting hot for six games in 2004, they haven’t won anything in 85 years. Because they never win, they treat being 7 games up in August like its the WS.

    See you In Oct!

  469. This Year August 1st, 2007 at 10:59 pm

Bosox fans cannot simply take pleasure in their team. They have such an inferiority complex, they have to indulge in the meanspiritedness that is so typical up here. Suffice to say that in the Patriots’ first super bowl celebration, the Yankees Suck chant was prominent. Sad town (not a city– too parochial).

  470. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 11:01 pm

i accept… please send me your e-mail address so we can discuss the terms.

  471. mel August 1st, 2007 at 11:03 pm

KC up on Minny. Totally meaningless.

  472. Rocco August 1st, 2007 at 11:07 pm

if you want the bet you post your e-mail address.

  473. Ed FL August 1st, 2007 at 11:09 pm

    FINAL

    RANGERS 9-6 CLEVELAND

  474. Jeff NJ August 1st, 2007 at 11:15 pm

I love these idiots. Talking smack then saying “I’ll bet you money, what you’re not trusting me? Why not? Why wouldn’t you trust a loudmouth who comes to instigate and annoy and is just bringing pure evil? You know from my intelligent posts I am good for it! Oh and because I am willing to bet my mom’s crack money that proves that I am right, the blow sox are more than one good season in the past 89!” Go away idiot.

  475. kasey August 1st, 2007 at 11:16 pm

pettitte certainly looked better tonight, although he still put a bunch of guys on base. but, 7 innings, 1 run, tough to complain about that.

i hope to god a-rod gets #500 out of the way tomorrow. they’re going to need his bat in the lineup for the next two months if they’re going to keep winning.

giambi is going to be sheffield all over again. i’ve said it before and i’ll keep saying it until i’m proven wrong. torre trusts veterans and they’re not paying damon and giambi to come off the bench. that’s my biggest fear for this team going forward, that they repeat the same mistake they made last year with sheffield.

doug, collier’s site looks awesome! great work. good to see you here.

    lifelong yankee fan, yeah.

  476. Harley August 1st, 2007 at 11:18 pm

Gee. Boston fans are bold and brave with an eight game lead. Class act all the way.

  477. shut up August 1st, 2007 at 11:22 pm

Way to bet 1000 for 1000 with a 7 game head start. Loser.

  478. Stuart August 1st, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Kasey way to be positive with the Giambi comment.

really you need to get laid or smoke a doobie or something…

Giambi is not a problem if Torre uses his brain… Sit Abreu Thursday and play shelly and Damno!!!!Jorge sits Thursday….

they need to get Clemens some runs…

  479. KAJ August 1st, 2007 at 11:28 pm

    16 runs last night,,,only 8 tonight,,,,,hey trolls, we sure waste a lot of rins…right…???

  480. KAJ August 1st, 2007 at 11:30 pm

strinky pete…nice name, moron,,,enjoy your lead while it lasts….you will not be laughing at the end of the year, idiot !!

  481. River Ave Report August 1st, 2007 at 11:35 pm

    SWEEP TOMORROW

  482. Bury Boston August 1st, 2007 at 11:42 pm

Oh wow Stinky Pete, Bostons “hard fought” game against the Baltimore Orioles. Let me ask you genius what happened to Boston in the close games against the Royals in your own dump? Listen you Red Sox scum go back to Sons of Sam Horn where you and the rest of your deluded fools can engage in your nightly circle jerk of love for your dirtdogs. You scum.

  483. pat m August 1st, 2007 at 11:48 pm

Stinky Pete….Nice name…Must have been a nick name from childhood….Seens like he never out grew it…..Now that explains plenty……

  484. dontfirecash August 1st, 2007 at 11:48 pm

I have to say that the level of discussion on this blog is at an all time high right now.

  485. Global Warming August 1st, 2007 at 11:58 pm

I love how people complain about Giambi coming back. What’s so wrong with depth?

You guys probably forgot or weren’t around but I use to love that 96 team with all that guys coming off the bench. Cecil, Boggs, Sojo etc.

Tino struggled in the WS, insert Cecil.

Phillips struggles a little? Insert Giambi.

Giambi seems like a team player, so does Damon so I really don’t think it will be a problem for them to not be everyday players. Who was the manager in 96 with that exceptional bench and kept everybody happy? Joseph Torre.

  486. Josh August 2nd, 2007 at 12:12 am

Proctor just came into the game for LA.

    Way to go Scotty!

  489. Al August 2nd, 2007 at 12:15 am

Global Warming – Sojo wasn’t on the 1996 team. Get your facts straight. They had Duncan and Fox at 2B.

  490. Doug Niman August 2nd, 2007 at 12:17 am

Rocco said: “yeah well the tigers and indians have to play each other 8 more times which means the loser will be 500 or below for 8 games… That makes it so impossible when the yanks are only 2 games back.

Also they are only 1 game behind seattle. Really tough to make that up over 2 months…”

Rocco – you have to remember that you are using rather large numbers here and that would seem to employ more than one festering brain cell to comprehend. For the benefit of the idiots, you need to dumb it down a bit – you know something on more of teletubbies level…

  491. Global Warming August 2nd, 2007 at 12:21 am

    Al,
Please get YOUR facts straight. Sojo WAS on the 96 team.

    http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/sojolu01.shtml

    Some people…

  492. Nigel August 2nd, 2007 at 12:34 am

Boston is 2-4 in games decided by 1 run since the all-star break. They are 2-6 in games decided by 2 runs or less since the all star break. Keep winning those close games. Good talk Russ.

  493. pat m August 2nd, 2007 at 12:40 am

Shame there isn’t a another 5 game series @ The Fens this season…..However they do have a western swing coming up…Historically ( as recent as last season )this trip is always quite bumpy for them……

  494. saucy August 2nd, 2007 at 1:03 am

wow, the trollery was taken to a whole new level of idiocy today. just wow.

and let’s see a show of hands on how many people sent john/stinky pete a virus?

seriouly, making a $1000 bet on a blog? wow.

  495. mel August 2nd, 2007 at 1:29 am

Anyone following the Seattle game? I left w/ Vlad batting in the 9th. Putz gave up 1, then got the double play, then proceeded to give up a 2 run-homer. Just came back, top of the 11th, bases loaded right now, 2 outs.

  496. dontfirecash August 2nd, 2007 at 1:32 am

I think somebody mentioned this earlier, but Sheffield is going to get his shoulder examined and the Tigers are worried he might have to go on the DL. Even if Sanchez and Whelan don’t pan out it was worth getting rid of the aging, grumpy and now injured Sheff.

  497. saucy August 2nd, 2007 at 1:41 am

Sanchez, Whelan, and salary relief towards the Igawa posting… err I mean Pettitte/Clemens signings.

Amazing this comes to light the day after the trade deadline.

  498. saucy August 2nd, 2007 at 1:43 am

honestly, i’m surprised he’s been as healthy as he’s been this far into the season. had a feeling he’d get hurt at somepoint.

  499. Ray August 2nd, 2007 at 8:27 am

Everyone talks about how Boston is fading..um..um…certainly would appear that Arod is the one fading. Put some pressure on him and he can’t produce…look at the last three year’s of playoffs.

  500. keithny August 2nd, 2007 at 9:26 am

youre right ray hes only hitting .480 with 7 (?)hr and 20 rbi in the 9th hes not clutch. ortiz is though hes hitting like 260 in that situation

  501. Miguel August 2nd, 2007 at 10:24 am

Well Ortiz’s clutchitudeness has long since been proven, so I wouldn’t go there, but anyone questioning A-Rod’s clutchness this year has been watching too much MLS and not enough MLB.
