The Yankees decided the price was too high for Eric Gagne. So the trade deadline passed uneventfully, except for the departure of Scott Proctor to Los Angeles. His arm will be shipped a day later.

Meanwhile the Yankees didn’t seem worried about not having Gagne as they blasted the White Sox. Brian Heyman has the story.

Hal Steinbenner made a rare appearance at the Stadium and discussed his newly expanded role.
