You can’t walk away from the price you pay

Alex Rodriguez has gone 26 at-bats since hitting his 499th career home run. But he’s not the first guy to wait for that milestone. Here are the longest gaps between 499 and 500 in baseball history:

Jimmie Foxx (1941) 61 ABs
Harmon Killebrew (1971) 43 ABs
Mickey Mantle (1967) 28 ABs
Alex Rodriguez (2007) 26 ABs
Eddie Murray (1996) 21 ABs
Ken Griffey Jr. (2004) 21 ABs

Just being on that list puts you in some pretty good company. Yankee fans can find a reason to gripe about anything sometimes. The Man is about to become the youngest person in history to hit 500 HRs and we are complaining that it is taking too long ? Read that sentence again….is that crazy or what ? He’ll hit one out in the next series ( likely 2morrow and all will be will ) Thanks again for the Blog, Peter…It rules !

    great springsteen reference, as always.

I’d love to know more about Posada as well, if you get a chance Peter. The scene in the 8th was very odd. Jorge started to walk toward the mound and then Tony Pena wouldn’t let him stay in the game. Farnsworth entering the game when Posada feels a twinge is a little too coincidental for me.

I’m betting on A-Rod won’t homer again this season.

    Peter,

What is actually happening with Steinbrenner? The word around the Web is that he’s not lucid half the time. Will the team be up fro sale?

Pete curious? Do you know how long it took Hank Aaron to tie Babes record when he was one home run from it? How long after he tied it that it took him to break it? In how many games for both?

I have a feeling Shelley Duncan will hit his 500th before A-Rod.

Speaking of Springsteen, in Reason to Believe, baby Kyle was dunked in the water to wash away his sins.

Perhaps the Yankees should do the same thing with their Kyle. On second thought, maybe they should just throw him in the river, and run away.

    “great springsteen reference, as always.”

whenever pete’s posts don’t make much sense to me, i should always just assume springteen references…
