Posada tosses some batting practice

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Aug 04, 2007 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

It’s Family Day for the team. The player and their families had the run of the field after the game. There is food, drinks and things for the kids including a merry-go-round in the bullpen.

At the moment, the kids are lining up to hit softballs and whiffle balls pitched by Jorge Posada. Joe Torre is playing shortstop and Laura Posada is playing first.

Just to prove that everybody really can get along, Posada is pitching to 5-year-old Stone Farnsworth.

Yes, Kyle named his son Stone.

Hey Pete can you take some pictures of that.

I wonder if Kyle was stoned when he named his kid Stone.

  2. Top Cat August 4th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

What? Kyle didn’t name him Spicoli ??

  3. Top Cat August 4th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

    Jen-

watch, the kid is probably already 6 feet tall.

  4. jk August 4th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

Just heard Posada beaned Farnsworth’s kid. Film at 11.

  5. jennifer August 4th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Did he cross him up? :P

  6. kasey August 4th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

“Yes, Kyle named his son Stone.”

because his wife vetoed the names steak, bow, and rifle.

  7. mel August 4th, 2007 at 8:16 pm

I really wish you didn’t tell us that Kyle’s a family man. Now he’s a sympathetic character. Can’t keep hating on and throwing jabs at a man with a little kid.

Maybe Kyle likes to read Stuart Woods. Stone Barrington is a character in his books.

Farnsworth Stone. Now there’s a great name. Very distinguished.

  8. Jim Johnson August 4th, 2007 at 8:43 pm

    Posada’s wife is a babe.

Yeah, I’m with Mel. I liked it better when Farnsworth was the anti-christ.

But honestly… all of his dickish qualities aside (and the fact that he nearly blows every game he’s in), you’ve got to feel for a guy who is universally hated in his own town. Imagine going to work each day and each one of your coworkers and clients booed and hissed at you and told you how much you sucked at your job and they wished you would just quit or get hit by a bus or something. Granted, the guy makes 5 million bucks a year, but man… that’s got to hurt a little.

    He’s still a jerk, though :P

  9. gianthinker August 4th, 2007 at 8:45 pm

We can all get along…until Posada beans the kid and its back to normal around here!

  10. CB August 4th, 2007 at 9:03 pm

Joba pitching the seventh in Scranton.

2 strike outs. 1 hit. Base runner got eliminated while caught stealing.

Joba hit 99 on the gun.

  11. Stacey August 4th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

Does Stone Farnsworth hang out with Steel Mientkiewicz?

  12. Joe Monte August 4th, 2007 at 9:17 pm

    Joba tonight in Scranton

    2 innings / 1 hit / 5 K’s

He’s going to be brought up on Monday for sure w/ Giambi.

Cairo will be DFA and then who gets the boot from the bullpen?

Peter – Cashman has to make two drops from the roster, does he DFA Cairo and Farnsworth? I wouldn’t see them getting rid of Bruney in favor of Farnworth to get Joba on the roster, but we know the contract is a huge obstacle.

  13. Jim Clark August 4th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Did Farnsworth name his kid after the great actor Evan Stone?

  14. GreenTeaSucks August 4th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

I would not advance past first base.

  15. Stuart August 4th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

Joe Monte… Cairo goes bye bye and I think Myers… I would love it to be krazy kyle but the yanks do not have the guts to do that….

myers stinks his stats are misleading.. scary villone has pitched better and is more valuable..

they need more then Joba they need 1 more arm out of the pen after Joba….

  16. Carmine August 4th, 2007 at 9:29 pm

It’s probably easier to show up to work where no one likes you when you make $6 mil/year. And I don’t think Kyle being a dad makes him a sympathetic person. Lots of crappy people are dads.

  17. Carmine August 4th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

Besides the fact that I don’t think anyone’s wishing death on him, we just don’t want him on our team.

  18. Stuart August 4th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

Amen Carmine. No ill will towards Kyle just find a new employer.

NESN is saying Kielty will be picked up in the next few days and Wily Mo will go bye bye soon……

BTW how is that Drew signing working out???Yeah Theo is a genius I forgot…….

  19. NJ August 4th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

GreenTeaSucks, I was thinking the same thing. Have you seen the set on her? Holy crap.

  20. jennifer August 4th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

If Joba feels fine tomorrow he will be on the plane with the team tomorrow night headed to Toronto. :D

I agree Cairo should be gone, you can’t get rid of Shelley with how well he is playing. Don’t forget Andy can play all infield positions besides SS. God forbid something happens to Jeter you have a gold glover over at third.

As far as the pen, before today I was thinking Bruney, but maybe just maybe he turned a corner today. So I’d say Myers is the odd man out. He hasn’t done his job more than he has. You can’t just keep him here to get Ortiz out. And as much as people want Farns gone, you can’t dfa him, you have to put him on waviers and try to trade him.

  21. Stuart August 4th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

I am all for the waivers move for Kyle..

they should dfa myers and kyle and bring up joba, ramirez, and britton and dfa cairo for giambi…

then I guess we need to remove 1 more bullpen ar????WHoever..

Viz and Maraino stay the rest really do stink..
Bruney had 1 good inning keep it in perspective…

he could be good but he walks way to many….

  22. jennifer August 4th, 2007 at 10:09 pm

    Detriot just lost. :D

  23. CB August 4th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

    Detroit loses to Chicago 7-5.

    Cleveland already lost.

Boston and Seattle later on tonight – either way the yankees gain ground.

  24. jennifer August 4th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Hey fan we’ve seen your post 100 times already we got it, you’re selling bootlegs. So stop spamming the board already.

  25. dontfirecash August 4th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

    CB,
Action Jackson was 2-4 tonight in Tampa with a homer. Still hitting in the .360′s….incredible.

  26. dontfirecash August 4th, 2007 at 10:22 pm

Good pitching in that game as well, as both Kontos and Robertson looked good. Reegie Corona continues to hit in Trenton as well. Things looking good on the farm.

  27. asburyboss August 4th, 2007 at 10:36 pm

Myers, Cairo, Mientikiewicz, Farsnworth should all go.

Giambi, Joba, Britton should be added…and the Yanks should sign Fernando Cabrera (DFA’d by Cleveland)

Pete…did the Yanks have any interest in Joe Kennedy? he’s better than Myers.

  28. PA Mike August 4th, 2007 at 10:44 pm

So Joba pitch tonight. What a character. Even from the stands can you see his pitches speed up and slow down. He went from a (assumed) 96 mph fastball to what looked like a 84 mph slider. (This from a little distance)

He had guys living on there heels.

If he can spot his pitches, he can either be a fantastic middle man, giving two or three scoreless innings easily, or if the stamina is there, (he is 6-2 230) i’m sure he could be a great starter.

  29. I am no longer Pete Abe's Biggest Fan August 4th, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Actually, Jen, I am not selling bootlegs. A bootleg would be a reproduced copy of a product that already exists and is being sold. Since Major League Baseball refuses to put these games out for everyone to watch them, I actually have the original broadcasts and am trying to help out fellow Yankees fans.

  30. John L August 4th, 2007 at 11:20 pm

Wikipedia: A bootleg recording is an audio and/or video recording of a performance that was not officially released by the artist, or under other legal authority…

What you are selling, whether they released them or not, are the property of MLB, who owns the rights to the broadcasts. Don’t you remember that legal disclaimer on every game you have ever watched? You are selling bootlegs.

  31. Will August 4th, 2007 at 11:21 pm

Do you have express written consent?

  32. KAJ August 4th, 2007 at 11:26 pm

Steroid Man hits number 755…tying the REAL HR Champ Hank Aaron at 755.

    Steroid Man HR Leaders :

    Bonds 755
    Sosa 604
    McGwire 583
    Palmeiro 569
    Sheffield who cares

    and the list goes on…

  33. Chris Serico August 4th, 2007 at 11:31 pm

    Peter,

Boston just took a 2-1 lead on Seattle. Let’s say, for the sake of the following analysis, that Boston wins tonight*.

All the Yanks have to do is play one game better than the Red Sox for every week remaining on the regular season schedule, and the Yanks will win the AL East. No, it’s not easy, per se, but it is doable.

Observe, noting that Sept. 30 is the last day of the regular season:

    Aug. 4: 7-game Boston lead*
    Aug. 11: 6-game Boston lead
    Aug. 18: 5-game Boston lead
    Aug. 25: 4-game Boston lead
    Sept. 1: 3-game Boston lead
    Sept. 8: 2-game Boston lead
    Sept. 15: 1-game Boston lead
    Sept. 22: Boston/Yankees tied
    Sept. 29: 1-game Yankees lead

  34. Chris Serico August 4th, 2007 at 11:38 pm

One small flaw in the above math: If the Yanks lose Sept. 30 and the Sox win that day, it’s likely the Sox would win the tiebreaker… so the Yankees would need to gain a leeeeettle bit more than a game a week for the above to work properly.

  35. Gamera August 4th, 2007 at 11:48 pm

Dice-K looks fantastic tonight. Theo does deserve tons of credit for signing him and Okajima. Cashman did nothing to help his team, however.

Would the Yanks have won the division if they had him?

  36. KAJ August 4th, 2007 at 11:54 pm

dice-k takes 4ever to deliver his average pitching…yankees will win division easily and boston won’t even make the playoffs,,,,keep watching and see that i am right…if i am wrong,,,i will take all the heat,,,,but i doubt that will happen,,,

  37. Hobs August 4th, 2007 at 11:55 pm

If we had Mats I think we’d be the division leaders right now. We wouldn’t have had that parade of prospects (4xhr wright) giving us some stability in the starting rotation during the first half of the year. Cashman blew that one.

  38. Ryan August 4th, 2007 at 11:57 pm

    This sums up today perfectly

    kyle and the family stone?

  40. Marc August 5th, 2007 at 12:43 am

C’mon guy’s. Farnsworth suck and we all know it. But let’s not crap on the kid.

  41. The Lady August 5th, 2007 at 7:02 am

Family Day was after the game? That’s good. Having it before the game is like fans watching players eat dinner. Who cares?

  42. Charlie August 5th, 2007 at 3:15 pm

“Dice-K looks fantastic tonight. Theo does deserve tons of credit for signing him and Okajima. Cashman did nothing to help his team, however.”

**IDIOT PATROL** Blaming Cashman for letting Theo nab Matsuzaka is asinine, because the bid from Boston was $50 million+. That’s way more than anyone in baseball, and surely you, would have predicted, and still launches Matsuzaka’s annual value to way more than he’s worth. This sort of hindsight you’re applying involves revisionist history and is completely bogus. You should probably throw your computer away.
