Game 111: Royals at Yankees
Here is the lineup:
YANKEES
Cabrera CF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez DH
Matsui LF
Posada C
Cano 2B
Betemit 3B
Phillips 1B
Mussina RHP
Pregame chatter: Joe Torre said Jason Giambi would likely join the team in Toronto tomorrow but may not be activated until Tuesday. … A-Rod hasn’t received the ball yet. … No word on the plans for Joba Chamberlain.
UPDATE, 3:05 p.m.: Sorry for the lack of updates but I’ve been doing some other work. There is a day game in Toronto tomorrow for some reason (Wayne Gretzky Day?), so I need to fly to Canada tonight.
The Yanks appear to have things well in hand. If they finish off this win, they will be 19-7 since the All-Star break (counting the suspended game) and 24-9 since July 2.
They’re not going to play .727 ball the rest of the season. But at 61-50, the Yankees would need to go “only” 34-17 to win 95 games. That’s .666 ball. That doesn’t seem unreasonable to me considering they have 6 games against Tampa, 3 against Kansas City, 6 against Baltimore and 10 against Toronto.
I’d be shocked if 95 wins weren’t enough to get in the playoffs.
Enough out of me. Catch you from Canada.

WE NEED JOBA!!!!
It’s a GREAT to be a Yankee, isn’t ??
How many times did they write us off ?
How many times did they kick us when were down?
Two months ago we were 6 games under .500 and everyone wrote us off.
Today we’re 10 games above .500 and 1 ½ games outta playoff contention.
As ARod told Kim Jones yesterday, “there’s nothing like wearing this beautiful uniform, that I appreciate and respect so much. New York is a special place.
Congratulations Alex – Cynthia !!
Dr.
I agree but this is also the last day of summer camp tee ball against the Royals and DRays….back to school the next few weeks against the Indians, Tigers, Angels and Red Sox….
This lineup is firing on all cylinders and if the pitching can keep them in games they should come through alright. September is a favorable schedule and my guess is that we are watching them in October.
Thank God those heroic Yankees were able to survive Torre’s malevolent managing.
Tigers look absolutely terrible. Angels are beatable. I am more concerned about Toronto and Baltimore.
They need the BP to step up or they’re going nowhere.
yea…Torre has ensured those 10 run leads are safe by putting a Proctor mask on Vizcaino and rolling him out everyday
Pitts
since when have the Angels ever been beatable for this team ? The Yanks have struggled against them for years
And weather is nice, for a change.
Gayle, if ya out there, tell us about yesterday’s furnance.
I see we have risen to 1st in Baseball in Runs Scored, OBP, AVG, RBI, etc
Looks like we have gotten really fat against the horrible pitching we have played in the 2nd half. The only good pitching team we have faced was Baltimore and they handed us our butts.
We are heading into a series of weeks that are both rough and will probably decide our season. I’m hoping what we are seeing now with this team is the real deal, not something that has simply been feeding on the bottom feeder teams.
From August 10th we play
3 @ Cleveland( Good Pitching-We are lined up to face Carmona, Byrd, and maybe Sabathia)
Hosting 3 against Baltimore
Hosting 4 against Detroit
3 @ LAA
4 @ Detroit
Hosting 3 against Boston.
This stretch ends on the 30th.
20 Games against good to great teams. 10 @ Home, 10 Away. I would even include Baltimore in that sentence because they have good pitching and have given the Yankees trouble this season.
Predictions? I’m hoping they go 11-9. After that rough set of games they TB, KC, and Baltimore(2 more times), so kind of an easy stretch to end the season.
“since when have the Angels ever been beatable for this team ? The Yanks have struggled against them for years”
See right before the All Star Break.
A-Rod has not received the ball because Rutgers finance office has not received a check from him yet….
I was at the game yesterday. The weather was brutal. The home run was great, and the outcome terrific, but the weather was brutal.
Rocco-
Torre still has a losing record against them, correct ? They have arguably the best rotation and bullpen in the AL..
I wouldn’t call any of those teams (not even the Red Sox) great
Acula I posted about the furnace yesterday in the game thread it was absolutely unbearable thankfully arod got it done early and the game was over somewhat early as I left it was so bad. If only todays weather was yesterday I would have lasted the whole game but wasnt going to happen yesterday. People were being carted off in wheelchairs abnd I am talking about young ones
Joe from Long Island- digya get sun burned?? yikes, it was a four hour game.
Surely you jest Miguel
Is it just me or when you watch the DRays and Royals, you just wonder on what teams their best players are going to wind up ?
Also re the guy who caught the ball i thought of something that would make me very happy as an exchange. How about he says to arod give me 2 seats, yankee season tickets for life. You know he gets great seats and I would take that exchange in a heartbeat.
How do you keep Cairo when Betemit is just a better, younger version ?
Gayle, I’ve got a real cool photo of zilla central from yesterday’s game, but my server is down.
How long did the frozen water last??
cant wait to see it I am told I made the broadcast on the Gathright double that hit the line so I am sure I am there depending on when it was taken. The frozen water didnt last long at all. Believe it or not the only way to get any relief was to go and get the cold water from the bathroom sink and put it on a towel and sit with that. As long as I have been going it was the worst day ever.
i think it’s ridiculous that alex hasn’t gotten that ball back. i heard that bonds doesn’t have his home run ball from yesterday. say what you will about bonds, that ball belongs to him. i could understand why the guy that caught that one doesn’t want to give it back, he probably hates bonds and doesn’t want to recognize it as an “achievement”. but what did alex ever do to this kid from rutgers?
“They have arguably the best rotation and bullpen in the AL..”
Shields and KRod are great. The rest of their pen is rather mediocre.
Moose has the curve working today
According to some article I read, Damon was VERY unhappy about sitting on Friday. I wonder how he’s taking todays line-up?
The ball belongs to whomever caught it.Sucks, but thats how it is.
Stefanie-
If anyone understands business it should be A-Rod, if not Boras can explain “supply and demand” to him…let the guy set his price and the open market will take care of the rest. Anyone who thinks the guy owes A-Rod the ball has been in a coma the last 30 years regarding sports and business
He is sitting because Arod is DH’ing not sure he could be upset about that.
My advice to Damon is go take more reps at first.
Gayle,
yikes, two life time tickets would be pricy – $300,750.21
box seats close to the field cost $150 per ticket. Two tickets for 81 games equals $24,300. An annuity to cover that at 8% for 60 years would cost $300K.
or learn how to throw with his other arm…
there would be some irony in that if A-Rod extends with the Yanks at $30m per and drives prices up
Haha, anyone catch what they play for Betemit when he comes to the plate? Better Man, which when sung in that fashion, comes out like, “Can’t find a betemiitt”…priceless
Gayle, where were you on the Gathright thing? I was in the third row over there?…
I spent good chunks of the game in the food court with the AC, but my shirt was so soaked with sweat that being there pretty much just made me cold.
I love Wilson Betimet. I see Phillips struggling mightily with the bat soon and Wilson maybe taking over the First Base spot.
It’s always nice to have insurance just in case A-Rod does leave next year.
If Damon is still complaining about not playing enough, then he better get all of that crap out of his system because when Giambi gets here, Damon is S.O.L. Has he cleared waivers??
I like how deep our lineup is today.
Justin my seats are in the 2nd row box 100 were you behind me lol
Bases loaded for Cabrera!!
Oooh, tomorrow is a day game
Melky! Melky! Melky!
11-game hitting streak
RBI single by Cabrera
What do you guys think the daily lineup will look like come October*?
I like this team more and more everyday with the overall depth of the lineup and improved bench. Damon and Giambi need to recognise that a bad contract for big money does not guarantee ABs….
3rd row box 104, so a little closer to the foul pole.
They are going to have to go with Meche, that bullpen is only a slightly better option that letting the Yanks hit off a tee
Meche may not make it into the 3rd inning, lol.
Mike
Cabrera
Jeter
Abooboo
A-Rod
Matsui
Posada
Giambi
Cano
Phillips
Justin and also a little closer to the HR lol but still the same beat down of ther sun with no protection
Abooboo with a 2 run single.
Moment of Truth.
Let’s see if Mike Mussina gives some runs back.
Melky..the 2nd coming of Bernie Williams……they both had problems the first few years in the majors…then Bernie took off….and now Melky is the man….Melky is someone we can win multiple WS with!!! There should be no question about where he should play, whether he should be a 4th outfielder…he is too good…our CF for the next 12 years….anyone agree/disagree?
E Roc….with Betemit and Damon coming off the bench that is a tough lineup.
Once upon a time, Cano would have struck out to end that ending. Now that he’s getting on, the lineup has a chance to turn over. Did you guys read about Cano telling Cabrera, “We got to get on base more” Ever since then those two have been on a tear.
This is great. Too bad for A-Rod.
GW….the real question is “let’s see if Mussina can give some runs back and whine about something or another”
Mike,
Mike,
CF Melky S
SS Jeter R
RF Abreu L
3B A-Rod R
LF Matsui L
C Posada S
DH Giambi L
2B Cano L
1B Phillips against a Righty, Betimet against a Lefty
Damon will hopefully be the 4th Outfielder/Pinch Runner.
Keith-
Completely agree, I have been on board with Melky in CF for a long while and am glad they did not pull the trigger on him for Gonzalez (out for season) or anyone else. He is a real homegrown talent and is bargain as well
Gayle… yeah I had to leave at 430 or so bc i had something to do.. and only right then, at the end of the seventh, did the shade hit me.
I wear a ring that I got for graduating from college recently, and i took it off at home… what a tan I got.
Whoops, meant Phillips against a Lefty pitcher and Betimet against a Righty pitcher.
I would start Betemit against a righty or lefty, but I think Torre will go with Phillips.
Moose is going to allow 0 runs this inning. Just for you guys
October rotation:
Wang
Pettite
Clemens
Mussina
Hughes
I hope Igawa leads Charleston to a SAL title….
We only need 4 starters for October.
So it would be either Moose or Hughes. I really doubt it will be Hughes.
Hughes to the pen!
Heads up play by Jeter!
Hughes has the ability to throw a gem every time he goes out there. His stuff is very, very good. He can make mistakes, sure, but he’s always got that threat to really throw a gem. Moose doesn’t have that ability. He can go the 6 innings with 1-2 runs but he cant go 7-8 with 0 runs.
The hardest thing for Mussina to do is go through the opponents order a 2nd time. It’s an otherworldly struggle every single time.
Detroit is losing 1-0 in the 3rd.
moose: 37 pitches in 3 inn – nice.
Does anyone think we should pick up Abreu option?I have been one against it but the more I think about whats out there the more im thinking maybe. Im not a big fan of his defense near walls, his arm though is a plus, avg. climbing closer to 300 and it would buy time for a Tabata or jackson.
We all know Mussina is going to be that 4th pitcher. It’s not even close. Why?? Because Hughes is a rookie. And we all know, Torre ain’t going to throw a rookie out there. On the other hand, Hughes might force Torre’s hand. So we’ll have to wait and see.
Omedetoo! Hyaku!
Matsui needs to stop the madness. He hits another homer! Utterly ridiculous!!
GODZILLA!!!
Congrats, Godzilla. HR #100 in the Majors.
Every year since the last World Series championship the yankees have been beaten in the post season by dominant pitching.
Hughes has dominant stuff. Mussina does not anymore at all. He’s doing it with smoke and mirrors and against the better teams they will face in the playoffs he may have a lot of trouble.
In addition, Mussina’s track record in the post season has been less than stellar.
If he pitches close to as expected, Hughes should (and I think will) be the fourth starter in the post season and Mussina will go to pen.
Hughes has that potential to shut down the other team – we saw a glimpse of that against Texas. Now he might not be ready – but we’ll see that over the next to months.
In short series shut down arms are invaluable and if you have one I think you need to use that weapon.
S.O.S.–I wouldn’t pick up his option. $16 million?? Hell no…..I might re-sign him though. His defense is annoying. Abooboo needs to stop being afraid of the friggin’ wall. There are a lot of outfielders that will be available. Milton Bradley, Abooboo, Aaron Rowand, Torii Hunter, Byrnes, and Kosuke Fukudome…
Can the wrist injury to Matsui last year be a good thing? He snapped the consecutive streak, so he finally got some needed rest.Second, he got a chance to rehab on his wrist maybe making it stronger. I have never seen Matsui swing as hard as he has been this past month. I can see how he led the Japenese league in homers. Hope he keeps it up through october.
I just plugged in this games data into my patented Torre BP Management Software and it looks like the Yanks will need a 12 run lead to give Vizcaino the day off.
Also, this was interesting is that the BP is still receiving calls for Proctor on a daily basis and it has to be explained to Joe repeatedly that he does not pitch for you anymore.
This phenomemon is known as “Sturtz-ing”
Phillips needs to stop swinging at the first pitch.
Go moose! The pitch count is looking excellent. Let’s hope he can keep this up and go 7-8
E-ROC,
Again I have been against it but seeing the free agents, the only one who I could live with is Rowand. Hunter is a strike out machine and will ask for at least 4 years. Rowand would probably be 2 years and much cheaper. He does get injured alot but he might be worth the risk. If not I cant think of anyone else the wouldnt strap us to more years and money for a player on their down years.
Hughes is sitting by himself.
dude, get up and sit next to -yoda- Roger.
Bobby Abreu is a beast. We need to resign him next season. He makes A-Rod so much better.
Warming:
What, about the Red Sox being great? No, I am dead serious.
On May 29, the Red Sox were a whopping 36-15. The Yankees were a dreadful 21-29, which resulted in a 14.5 game difference in the standings.
That’s a ittle less then two months.
Since that time, a little more than two months:
The Yankees are 39-21, the Red Sox 31-28. So if the Red Sox are great, the Yankees are Muhammad Ali (AKA the Greatest).
Here’s what I think happened…a flukish 7 weeks to open the season found the Red Sox playing over their heads (WAY over their heads, IMO) and the Yankees in shambles. While guys like Kevin Youkilis were putting up DiMaggian numbers, the Yankees lost 6 of their top 8 starting pitchers to injury, which forced the bullpen to be overworked, therefore ineffective, and guys like Matt DeSalvo to be counted on. All of this head a very bad impact on the Mojo of the team, and they were in a terrible rut. Of course, over the course of a full season players and teams show their true colors. The Red Sox are not scaring anybody. There are NO great teams in baseball, but the Yankees are close…find a proper role for all of their bench players and replace a couple of useless bullpen arms with a LOOGY and an 8th inning guy, and I can’t imagine how they are not the best team in baseball on paper.
As far as the division goes, the Yankees may have dug themselves too big a hole. if the Red Sox win the division by 4-5 games, that means the Yankees have played 10 games better than them over the final 4 months, the majority of the season. Those first two months were just so strange. But I don’t really care if the Yankees win the Division or the Wild Card…obviously I’d prefer the former, but I’d prefer most of all to go deep in the playoffs, and that can happen either way.
Rowand is having a good season and is injury prone, he is not going to sign for two years.
S.O.S–I don’t know though. Rowand is in a contract year and putting up numbers to get paid. But he doesn’t seem like the type of person to do that. I’d take a chance on him. Everybody else is a little scary. Although, I really like Milton Bradley and Kosuke Fukudome intrigues me.
UHH OHH, here comes mr. self destruction
“or learn how to throw with his other arm…”
or learn to throw with the arm he has. on a serious note , veterans have to learn how to reinvent themselves at different points in their career if they want to keep playing. damon is a left fielder at this point. to be alead off hitter, he has to get in top notch running shape to take advantage of his speed. he came into spring training clearly in bad shape. he has to have a meeting with himself to decide if wants to pay the price to continue being a star player. no one can do it for him. it’s up to him. beating out giambi for the dh spot is a good place to start.
Info on Fukadome? Age,numbers?
Schilling returns tomorrow.
He’s gained atleast 10 lbs — all in the middle. His pantz button popped open (ahahahhah).
S.O.S.–http://japanesebaseball.com/players/player.jsp?PlayerID=1064
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/....._on_k.html
Dr. Acula–I thought he gain all of that weight in his head. I guess I was wrong.
I can see Damon asking to be traded with him not being able to take back his regular spot in center. Its either him or Gaimbi. Dont mess with the players on the field unless they need days to rest.
Giambi needs to stay longer in the minors.
Fukadome…it is 20 years old and holds about 45,000 and is a multi-purpose venue.
The Yanks are going to have to let the stench of the Igawa – Dice K debacle fade a bit before reaching back to Japan
Meche is terrible
E-ROC-
heheheehehehehhe
How did Jeter not get out of the way of that pitch? It wasn’t that much off the plate or inside and he was just frozen.
Bettimit gets at least another 2 days of starts now in place of Jeter so he can rest a couple.
Where was Jeter hit??
I think Cash will trade either Giambi or Damon in the offseason. Giambi could maybe be moved with only 1 year left to a team in need of a DH. Or even Damon, but his contract is worse.
Detroit doing their annual august swan dive losing 3-0 wildcard will be ours by next week.
Jetes may need a break.
can Giambi play shortstop??
I’d rather Giambi DH than Damon.
he got hit on the top of his hand
Abooboo is having a nice game today.
top of the left hand. Lots of bones there. I’d think he gets pulled for the rest of this game at the top of the inning and then sits in Toronto for 2.
Dr.Acula,
Only if Damon can play third.
Jeter really needs a full day off. He is taking a pounding this year.
Lets see if Mussina retaliates for Jeter now. My guess never..
I would rather Dr. Andrews takes Giambi and Damon and salvages the spare parts to make one “Franken-DH” who can run and hit and does not get injured while sitting on the bench.
Anyone who thinks there is a market for either is right, the only issue is that they are on the only team that would trade for them already….bloated old veterans with huge contracts…
People aren’t too afraid of 85 mph fastballs…
SOS-
Mussina responding will result in Teahan grabbing a Moose fastball with his bare hand and tossing it back to him.
San Fran needs some more oldies to round out the roster.
This are nice problems to have…we have Giambi and Joba ready to come up and we need to find a place for them. I would like to throw something out there. Isnt’ the point of playing the season to win games and get into the playoffs ? Then win the playoffs and get into the world series ? How does it matter AT ALL what the salary of the player is ? Imagine this, you have a guy you are paying 20 million dollars to and he is hitting .150. You have a rookie that you are paying 300k to and he is hitting .325. Why would you start the .150 hitter ? And also, you have a pitcher that you are paying 7 million dollars to, and his ERA is 9.75. You have a rookie and his ERA is 0.75 and he is getting only 300k per year. Why in the HALE would you ever play the worse players ? This whole argument that a guy makes too much money NOT to play is complete garbage….just IMO.
S.O.S.–We would be messing with Mussina’s routine if we ever tell him to hit somebody or throw a “brush-back” pitch. LOL. He has a hard time as it is.
Third time through the order, ladies and gentlemen. Hopefully, things don’t get interesting.
Now…Farnstard that is a guy you send in to retaliate and the suspension would be good for all involved
The Mariners come to town for Labor day, those 3 games are gonna be big.
Trade Damon back to the REd Sox. haha
The M’s might be done by then…if not after that weekend they will be.
I have a bad feeling, NOW. Cano made an error. Hopefully, we can keep the “flood-gates” from opening.
Nice double play.
All is well now, lol.
Cano bobbled it, but Foul Ball was going to be safe.
Gayle, were you among us yelling “Joey” yesterday?
Mussina at 61 pitches. This has to be one of his best outings in a long time (so far).
Check out this picture of “38-Donuts”:http://tinyurl.com/yvpg2r
be good to be able to use the bullpen dregs to close this out…
The M’s are a really good team. Good enough starting pitching and an excellent bullpen; they can score some runs too. They won’t go away.
I mean 66 =)
Bx 12,
If I was Jeter I would hold on to the next ground ball and let the player round the bases. Bad news bears style. Maybe then he would plunk somebody for once.
Thats why he keeps getting hit.
God I miss Proctor.
Dr. Acula–Doesn’t Schilling look like one of those coked up Baldwin brothers?
Meche is a decent pitcher, but why the Royals of all teams signed him is beyond me. They spent big money to finish, what 18 games out ? instead of their traditional 20 games out ?
E-Roc. Coke kills your appetite. If they’re fat it’s just because they ate sooo much that the decrease in appetite was miniscule compared to their gluttony.
the one in rehab doens’t bother me, it’s the holy roller from “The usual suspects” that freaks me out (the “convert becomes a zealot” thing).
Dr. Acula,
He actually looks good in that photo. He just needs to stay away from the home whites, makes him look round.
Where’s the pic from yesterday? Did you solve your server problems?
S.o.S.27,
Kosuke Fukudome is a 30-year-old outfielder. He’s 6’0″ and weighs 187lbs; bats left and throws right (just like Ichiro and Matsui).
His 2006 numbers (I think he’s been injured for 2007) are: .351 BA, 31 HRs, 104 RBIs, 117 runs, and 47 doubles.
He’s like a smaller, slightly faster Hideki Matsui, who can hit HRs but is more a doubles machine.
Apparently, Boston might go after him this offseason.
BX,
They needed a player to represent them in the all-stars.
“Coke kills your appetite.”
tell that to John Belushi and Elvis (admittly it would be difficult, they’re dead).
but that crap makes people paranoid.
and ya know, Shill sure is paranoid (wink, wink)
Is this Little League? Nunez looks like he belongs in the 12-13′s
Mike…to replace Manny ? The Sox have bad money locked up with that chocolate teapot Drew and Ellsbury is almost ready to inherit CF…
I think the converted Baldwin is Stephen.
mel, buddy, ya kidding me. Shill looks like the Michelin Man standing next to his skinny, sane teammate.
Dr. Acula–LMFAO!!! ROFLMAO!!!
Mel, yeah the shill pic is from last night.
Click on my name, I’ve got a really cool slide show hooked up.
E-Roc. It doesn’t make everyone skinny, but it certainly doesnt make you fat (on its own). If you happen to be an overeater… well, there you go.
Hideki will have his steady as a rock .290 – 25HR – 100 RBI year.
Thank you, E-ROC, Thank you!!
whatz ya rank dude? you in the AF? I’m an old Navy/carrier guy (well, not that old).
Yo, what’s the word on Jabba. Anything official? My boy was lights out last night. I watched him on milb.com. He hitting 97 on the gun.
But that ain’t no thang, right? Farnsworth hit that on the gun and still suck. Jabba be hitting it AND throwing strikes. Supposedly, he got late movement on it, to boot.
(Yo, all you Chris “Great” Britton fans out there. He look more like London around 1941 than the empire the sun don’t set on.)
Still, I worry. Man, Torre one the worst in managing bullpen arms. Maybe they bring up Ohlendorf, or Edwar, with Jabba and alternate ‘em like. Never pitch the Jabba two day in a row. You know what I’m sayin?
I don’t know. But the next 20 games look tough. They ain’t gonna win diddly with Farnsworth, Myers, and Villone pitchin a big spot.
GOOD NEWS: NO C.C. SABBATHIA, this weekend. Look like Carmona, Byrd, and Westbrook.
Cool slide show Dr.
That’s what I like to see from Moose.
Damon’s contract at 12mil per isn’t that bad by this year’s standards, but Giambi’s $20mil, that’s another story. Damon would be relatively tradeable if the Yanks ate 1/3 of his money. $8 mil for him is pretty darn good. Yanks just have 3 better outfielders now. With Bobby gone next year, they will put him in left with Matsui in Right and Cabrera in center and even at $12 mil, if he came in to camp in shape, he might be worth it.
Can’t blame Moose for those two runs. He was retaliating by hitting the batter and those runs came because he was defending Jeter.
Schilling = Dunkin’ Donuts poster boy. He also has a gig as the Pillsbury Dough Boy.
I was a Senior Airman in the Air Force. Separated in Feb ’06 after completing my four years of service; My wife is still in the military. She is a Senior Airman, too.
Mike,
How do you project Fukodome to do in the MLB? Do you think he is an option for the Yankees if they decide not to pick up Abreu’s option?
As far as this year has gone for Abreu, if they don’t pick it I’m OK and if they do I’m OK. He tends to drive me nuts.
Well, I guess that’s the last time that Mussina will retaliate. LOL.
Yo, don’t be sure, Bobby gone next year, specially he open to coming back at less than his 16M option. If the Yanks want to keep Melk in CF, they needs a RF. Don’t tell me no Dunkin Donuts playing RF every day.
Mike,
Of course considering it they managed to trade Damon
Yo, who dat schemin dude in Willie Wonka want that everlastin gobstopper recipe. That’s my new name for Farnsworth.
Hitting brown messed up his routine. Sorry I asked Mussina to retaliate.
Thanks, guys!
Congrats Ron Benbow.
You’ve successfully posted ebonics on the blog.
see this a perfect game why joe torre worry me. yesterday he use “NOBODY BEAT THE VIZ” in like, a what, 7-8 run game.
Today look like he gonna need The Viz. And he pitched fri and saturday already. You gonna use the Viz, again?
Mariano gonna have to go 4-5 outs? Yo, we got a day game tomorrow.
Why, Toronto got a day game on a Monday. Some Canadian holiday or some s-it. What it America Protect My Ass Day?
Dr.,
Thanks for the cool slide show.
Melky is the CF !
Word, Hobbs, Life “nasty brutish and short” Feel me?
Ron-
It is John Candy’s birthday….
What are the chances? Has anyone caught 2 in a game?
Tomorrow is “Civic Holiday” tomorrow in Canada, whatever that may be.
I’m down with Bobby. Boy remind me a Bernie. Always Smilin. Never complain. Play hard. No excuses. Modest and s-it.
The Yankees are currently two games back, in the loss column, of the Detroit Tigers – and the Tigers, are losing, 3-0, in the bottom of the 7th. The Yankees have to keep their focus, on the Wild Card, if they want to make the post season. Is that possible? Sure, it’s possible…anything is. But, is it likely? Not so much.
Dont look now but Melky has some POP
White Sox up 3-0 in the 7th. You wait. That pen blow the lead.
Yo Damon look like he needin some luv on that bench. Yo, where Top Cat when we need her?
“The Yankees have to keep their focus, on the Wild Card, if they want to make the post season. Is that possible? Sure, it’s possible…anything is. But, is it likely? Not so much.”
Not Likely? How is it not likely that the hottest team the past 5 weeks in baseball, half a game back in the wild card, is “not likely” to make the playoffs?
what’s the rule on stealing with a lead? I think Jetes just stole some more payback for that pitch that nearly missed his hand.
Civic Holiday=Labor Day
Yo, my man, pride goeth before the fall. Let’s win them games in Cleveland, Detroit, and LA LA Land before we makin playoff reservations, feel me?
We keep on keeping on, the record speak for itself.
Nunez is in no position to field when he throws the ball. It’s kind of funny
With this bullpen and the HBP, there are no unwritten rules. The coaches probably gave the green light.
only a 6 run lead…I see a Mo 2 inning save opportunity coming up….
Steve, you have to be kidding me. The Yankees are considered by many experts as having “clinched” the wild card already. It’s a no doubter. The only question now is whether or not we catch Boston for the division.
Twins go ahead, lead Clev 1-0 in 5th. Detroit is losing 3-zip with only 5 outs left. Schilling just placed a jumbo order w/ Nathans.
Monday is Simcoe Day in Ontario. A holiday for all us hard working Canucks.
Now here’s a question for all Yankee fans: When the Red Sox play a team ahead of the Yankees in the Wild Card race, who do we root for?
Damnit Joe. Why take Moose out? He could have gotten another double play ball. He’s been doing it all day. Hmm
You root for a natural disaster. Win-win.
I’m assuming any previous comments suggesting Cano be traded or demoted to AAA have been expunged from the archives.
YFN…
Habs vs Leafs….same dynamic
bruney’s velocity is down.
We root for the Red Sox of course. I’d rather have the Red Sox and Yanks win every single game for the rest of the season, with the Yanks winning the head to head matchups, because then the Yanks are guaranteed to make the post-season. Even better, the Red Sox would have to play some other team first round with a chance to get knocked out before the Yanks would have to see them to go to the World Series.
_When the Red Sox play a team ahead of the Yankees in the Wild Card race, who do we root for?_
That’s a tough one, I haven’t been able to wrap my little head around that nut.
I guess with root for x-tra innings and rain delays
yankee fan north–
i don’t care about the al east win streak, but you should always root for the red sox to lose, especially when the division is within reaching distance.
does myers ever get lefties out?
Hey guys, just need 1 out, right?
Ugh.
Jabba! Jabba! Jabba!
I like Myers MUCH more against righties
WOW Myers sucks! He has to be the one to go when Jaba comes up.
how useless is mike myers? He can’t get outs in big spots, mop up duty or anytime.
He is so bad.
Ourpen is the best in baseball. nice walk by Strikethrower Bruney and Myers did his magic..
really this pen is bottom 5 in baseball. that is mindboggling that they are bottom 5 in baseball..
i agree on getting rid of myers but they wont. joe and guidry refuse to come to terms that myers cant get lefties out anymore
Peter you are right, they are not going to play .727 ball the rest of the season….they are going to play .750 ball !…so after we win today…61-50….51 games at .750 ball = 99-63….OK…let’s just get outrageous and predict 100-62 !!! The Sky is the limit…If we can just get average to above average pitching day in and day out…this offense is gonna keep putting 7-10 runs per game on the board and it’s gonna get real fun….REAL FAST !
Joba can’t get here fast enough.
USE ME INSTEAD
dr acula. i appreciate it whenever jeter steals. He’s just padding my fantasy team
wel l in hand? great jinx, pete. guess you forgot about the yankee bullpen.
May as well use Karstens and Rivera today
Viz in the 8th, Mo in the 9th.
Let’s keep in mind our entire hot streak has come against sub-500 teams. Let’s do it against some quality teams before we start talking about having the wild card clinched
This bullpen will never hold up against good teams the next three weeks unless they make major changes. Not touchups, major changes.
Bruney walks a guy with a 6 run lead, a Bruney specialty, which is why he can never be reliable. Once again, the “lefty specialist” can’t get lefties out. Why he is still on the roster is anybody’s guess.
Two hits, and 4 runs given up by the “lefty specialist” the last two days and he is 0-for the week getting lefties out.
To top it off, Torre puts Vizcaino in the 8th inning yesterday with a 9 run lead.
No matter what you do, each game plays into the next day. No logical reason to pitch Vizcaino yesterday. Now, you need him, and you don’t know what he has left for you today.
If he does the job, he is unavailable tomorrow, the start of an important roadtrip.
Between the walks, the failures and the mismanagement of the bullpen, this offense better not slump. They need every bit of 8-10 runs a game to win. That’s not going to last forever.
Joba Chamberlain can’t get to NY soon enough.
no kj farnsowrth should def be the one to go id much rather have myers against ortiz and anyone else for that matter than kyle against anyone
More brilliant bullpen management by Torre. Not like it matters lefties are hitting 300+ against Myers cause he’s a LEFTY SPECIALIST!! You have to bring him in to face the left handed batter!! and not give Bruney a chance to work out of it.
Please DFA, he has the worst 2.50 ERA in the history of baseball. Has there been an inherited runner who hasn’t scored when he’s come in?
pbl, nobody said its clinched and havent you looked at the schedule? the yanks are playing a lot of five hundred teams so they are continuing to play 500 teams so it is definitely attainable
Cairo – when Jason comes back
Myers – when Jaba comes up….Its that simple but something tells me Joe will keep Myers up and send Karstens down.
green tea: i never thought that about his guitar i watch the yanks everyday and i thought maybe it just seems like he lets up more runs than he does cause he does in big situations or something but yea he lets up all unearned runs which is further proof why most stats suck
Tigers lost! .5 games here we come
Detroit loses, its final.
“How is it not likely that the hottest team the past 5 weeks in baseball, half a game back in the wild card, is “not likelyâ€? to make the playoffs?”
Yeah, that wasn’t very well thought out.
Peter was writing all these percentages and scenarios for making the postseason, but to me, that’s overthinking. All we have to do is play 2 games better over the next 50 than the TIgers, Indians and Mariners, and we have games remaining with all of them. We control our own postseason destiny…it’s a nice feeling.
Detroit Lost, half a game out after today!
DET-CHW game just went final and Detroit lost. I think that we see Mo in the 9th as he hasn’t pitched in a while (day game tomorrow not withstanding).
F-ing Myers and Bruney……Lefty specialist and walk specialist, respectively. What is taking Cashman so long to get rid of these fools? Myers is getting paid to get lefties out and he’s not doing that. Bruney can’t throw a strike to save his life. He probably can’t throw a strike underhanded.
Cashman needs to promote every reliever. This is ridiculous. Promote Brower and Chris Britton and Joba and Kevin Whelan and Ross Ohlendorf and whoever else is available. PLEASE DO SOMETHING USEFUL, CASHMAN!!!
If you don’t take away Torre’s toys, he’s going to continue to use them.
As long as Farnsworth and Myers are on the roster, Joe is going to use them. Its never going to change.
They are afraid to release these guys, they better hope the offense doesn’t slump.
I have two fears if Joba is called up. One, he pitches poorly his first time out and Torre gives him the “Ramirez Treatment”. Or….he is lights out and Torre gives him the “Proctor/Viz Treatment” and runs him into the ground.
Very, very frustrating to have a game in hand and now will have to blow out the bullpen to try and keep the lead. When you think about it, its inexcusable.
You know last time the Detroit Tigers slumped like hell and came into New York bad things happened………..
That’s a lefty out!
every game we have played since the all star break is against a team that was under 500 before the all star break, that may have changed since, but we certainly have not been playing the best teams leagues and…
“Steve, you have to be kidding me. The Yankees are considered by many experts as having “clinchedâ€? the wild card already. It’s a no doubter. The only question now is whether or not we catch Boston for the division.”
Obviously I am hoping we make the playoffs, but my optimism is going to be limited until i see us winning games with better teams than the royals and devil rays on our schedule
Scott Baker (SCOTT BAKER?!?) absolutely torching the Indians right now – 83 pitches, 3 hits, no runs through 7 innings. That team is NOT remaining in the playoff hunt.
The other Central team of concern, the Tigers, are hurting without our man Sheff…if anything, the Twins will be the ones giving us trouble at the end.
Myers got a lefty out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets celebrate this groundbreaking achievement.
Sj, I’ve been waiting to see you come to the board today. Moose pitched well today, no?
_You know last time the Detroit Tigers slumped like hell and came into New York bad things happened_
doesn’t count. the rain delay killed us and whatzhisface was loading the ball with pine tar
Myers gets another lefty out!! He is dealing now. Next stop DFA!!!
Although Joba should offer immmediate help, I still believe they need another arm…..In two weeks, the real test arrives, and the pen is so hit and miss….Bruney who I liked, has become increasingly erratic…..Hope Cashman has a plan after Chamberlain….
Yankees are notorious for playing worse against sub .500 teams…so imagine what it’s going to be like when they ramp it up for these +.500 teams
How in the blue hell do u walk a righty when you actually do get righties out???!!!
Sj44, Goldman said as much in his latest blog entry, and I believe in the Sun in the past. Torre is a creature of habit, hey, we’re all creatures of habit, but in his case it is detrimental to the team’s chances. Not just in the players he runs out there, but also those who will never get a chance to perform. The roster moves that occur when Giambi and Joba come up will be very revealing. Here’s hoping for the best.
Look at it this way, now Mo can get a save.
mike myers is missing something hell find it by the playoffs
Gathright has been hitting that outside pitch to the SAME part of the field, in the SAME way, all game. Why wasn’t he pitched inside? Sometimes I’m boggled by decisions
I don’t care if we beat up teams with sub .500 records. As long as we make the playoffs, I’m all for it.
Moose pitched well today. But, let’s keep things in perspective. The Yankees have done what they had to do…..pound the bad teams.
Now, things get tougher the next 3 weeks. This offensive orgy is nice but, its not logical to think they are going to keep scoring runs like this in the next 3 weeks.
That means, the walks out of the bullpen, the short starts, all of the stuff that put this team in the hole its been trying to dig out of, will KILL them unless changes are made.
As I type this, our “lefty specialist” AGAIN fails. More walks, another RBI hit to a lefty.
An 8-2 laugher is now a ballgame, and we have to burn Mo for a multi-inning save. Pathetic.
This team isn’t sniffing the playoffs with this bullpen. Unless major changes are made, this bullpen will kill them down the stretch.
Twins still lead Clev 1-0, with 6 outs left.
Double-header tomorrow. Yanks in the day, with cry-baby Schilling in the nitecap.
Ah, just great, we have to bring in Mo in the 8th.
torre manages the bullpen like an addict manages drug use
no one complaining about the Sheff trade right now!!!!
Gary ishurting right now and only has 2 yrs left on that contraqct, then again he is a young 38..\
SJ is right they need 2 arms in the pen else there offense will have to be even better against good teams and that is not happening..
they need 2 arms Joba and someone else who can throw strikes
…Myers let 2 inheerited runners from Bruney score and then did more of the same in the 8th … there pen is AWFUL AWFUL AND AWFUL..
It is mindboggling how 6 guys or so can be so bad for so long.. they almost never get clean innings…I rate there pen better then Tampa and I thought better then the whitesux but the whitesux pen has been pitching better… I am not sure which other pen in baseball is worse then the Yanks.. KC probably but riske and grienke are better then they showed yesterday….
I was okay with using Rivera today for an inning since I trust Joe won’t over-use him. But a 4 out save in a game that should be in hand. Karstens was warming up but heaven forbid he come in to pitch.
SJ…Your fears on Joba are mine too.
Get Myers out of the frickin’ game, NOW!! Useless!! DFA!!
DFA Myers. No contender will pick him up. Have Farnsworth follow him out the door. Bring up Britton or Brower from AAA. Problem solved.
Actually, the Yankees have won 6 of their last 7 series against teams with winning records. The Yankees record has been hurt by their play against teams such as Baltimore and Oakland. So, mowing down these weaker teams is exactly what we should be doing. And in the past several weeks, the Yankees have been beating the good teams too. This is a different team, with healthy pitching, Clemens, etc….not the team that considered Kei Igawa its third starter.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....e?team=nyy
Honestly, I think it’s good for Mo to come in for a multi-out save. We see him so little this season and he’s going to be needed in a bad way in the postseason for saves like this. Plus with his lack of work, it will certainly benefit him. Blessing in disguise, i think.
Why the hell haven’t we given Britton an adequate chance? He pitched well for Baltimore last year. Also how much more dominate does Edwar have to be in AAA? Give that guy a 2nd chance and ACTUALLY USE HIM. We have options, Torre is just too much of a damn retard.
Thank God for having a future HOF closer.
Torre just made a call to the Dodger bullpen trying to warm up Proctor.
Man what are you guys crying about…because we didn’t win by 8 runs? Get a grip…this is baseball.
Or, if we had won by 8, you complain that “the team is not built to win close ballgames”.
They are on FIRE and the league should be scared. The bullpen holes are too great to call them the favorites right now, but they are definitely the most dangerous team in baseball right now. One or two arms away from being the favorites to win it all. The glass is 4/5 full!
And Moose does the job again. He turned the corner weeks ago, maybe soon he’ll turn the corner in the minds of Yankee fans.
LOL greentea
Brower is a 30+ retread. Do not expect him to be the 2nd coming of Jeff Nelson..
I like Britton and Ramirez myeself with Joba….OH my god they are young and unproven!!!!!!!!!OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Newsflash the crap we have is crap.. I have been posting this same diatribe for 2 months.
Abreu will hit a bomb
oh wow Jeter
Look, even if I concede that we need major changes in the bullpen, 2 pitchers, one of which being Joba would constitute major changes. Hell I would even trade Fransworth for Wickman if we can get Atlanta to lower their cash demands a bit. Or maybe a guy like Marte can be had. Either way, the team in general just need tweaks right now. All is well. I personaly look forward to beating up on the so called elite teams over the rest of the month.
You gotta give Nunez some credit. He has come into the game and has been dealin’ ever since.
In order for Myers to be valueable for this team, he needs to be lights out against lefties. Even if he was very good, it would be hard to justify him taking up a valueable roster spot for only a one batter performance. Villone may not be great but he has more versatility.
I have my resrvations about the Joba relief experiment but since they are going with it, I say bring him up with Edwar and either get rid of Myers or option Bruney and Karstens.
Vizcaino gets the 8th, Joba the 7th, Edwar pitches the 6th or where needed. Farnsworth if he must stay, can pitch the 7th in games with a nice multi-run lead. Villone can pitch when needed against lefties.
Still not a dominant pen, but better. If Edwar fails you readjust. If Joba and Edwar fail, then there are problems.
SJ, If this team somehow makes the playoffs I think adding Hughes to the bullpen could be a strong boost to the team.
Not at 37 years old its good to have Mo in for two inning saves.
I am not trying to be a wet blanket here. The team is really playing a lot better and its fun to see.
However, you win down the stretch with pitching, especially your bullpen. The Yankees bullpen, leading up to Mo, stinks. No other way to say it.
They have two guys you can trust: Viz and Mo. The rest couldn’t pitch out of the bullpen for ANY of the teams the Yankees are competing against for a playoff spot. They are that bad.
In 2-1, 4-2-type games down the stretch, you really think they will win those games with this bullpen? No way.
I agree with Stuart. They need more than just Chamberlain. They need another arm AND they have to subtract two from the list of: Farnsworth, Myers, Villone and Bruney.
Its a worry and its not an unfounded one. If you guys recall, Torre blew out Mo in August of last year and Mo was never the same again the rest of the season.
Its time to revamp the bullpen. Bring in Chamberlain, Brittain and Ohlendorf. At worst, they are fresh arms.
Its radical, it goes against the grain, and Torre probably won’t like it. However, you have to save Torre from himself. That’s Cashman’s job.
If not, Torre will roll the same guys out, they will continue to fail, and we will hear him say, “We have to get (fill in the name) right”.
At some point, the conclusion has to be reached these guys are never going to succeed and you have to cut the cord.
Miguel: It has nothing to do with the score, it comes down to 2 things.
1. The inability to properly and effectively manage a bullpen in a close game is going to hurt us in the end of the season/playoffs.
2. Every game is not singular and the choices made will affect the next days game (decreasing the chance of winning that day)and so on.
I agree Stuart
No Miguel we’re crying because our Manager has often shown that he has no clue when it comes to using the bullpen to it’s strenghts…..It’s been an issue all season, and it’s only going to get worse when it will matter the most, in about two weeks……
What happened to trying to get Al Reyes? He’s got good numbers as far as SO/BB ration and he’s well under 1 hit per inning. Is it even possible Tampa would part with him?
The Yankees should send out a thank you card to Ozzie Guillen with broom attached for his sweep of the toothless Tigers.
Do NOT send a get well card to Detroit…
“If this team somehow makes the playoffs”
Somehow is a strong word, the Yankees are a Boston win away from being 0.5 out in the wild card or a Seattle win away from being 1 out in the WC and 6 out in the AL East. Pointing out the weaknesses that will keep us from making it to the postseason..as if the teams we are competing with are loaded (they are not, not one of them).
IT’S A 4 OUT SAVE!!! He’s fine. To quote the great Detective John Kimball of Kindergarten Cop Lore, “Stop Whining!”
Don’t forget about Dave Robertson and Kevin Whelan. I know they aren’t ready but, lol, they could be an upgrade. Kevin Whelan is starting find his control and should be promoted real soon; not to the majors, but to AAA, I think. Myers, Farns and Bruney have to go. I like Villone. He can be our long reliever.
*61 Wins*
only Clev (62), Cal (63), and Boston (67) have more.
A dominant bullpen is perhaps the single most important factor to success in the post season.
Fingers crossed it looks good to get the wild card (though this next stretch of games against the tribe, tigers, and angels will be the test).
That said the focus for this team, as always, is to win the world series.
As currently constituted, this bullpen is going to be an enormous liability in the playoffs.
As happy as I am to see them playing well, their offense simply will not do this in the playoffs. Like last year they may have trouble scoring runs against the strong pitching they will face.
In the playoffs they will need to win 1 run games and with this bull pen that seems unlikely.
They need a major restructuring of this pen, not only to make it to the playoffs but to have a better chance to win the series.
I’d like to _see_ Kim Jones suit up – uh, literally (sheepish grin).
I’m out, people!! PEACE!!
SJ44…no, I do not think they will be successful with this bullpen. I agree with you that personell is a problem, Farnsworth is obviously dead weight and Myers is too. I think that’s Cashman’s job to get rid of those guys…Torre’s using his “weaker” relievers in what was not a close game, which is what he should be doing? Yet he gets ripped. He uses the good relievers in a less than close game and he gets ripped. You guys want to rip him for everything. Yes Cashman should take those guys away from him, not because they’re his “toys” who he’ll end up using, but because they’re relievers who he’s gonna have to use at some point if all he has is weak relievers and 6 inning starters.
E-ROC, you two have fun!
Miguel
I didn’t mean it to be as strong as it sounded. I actually do believe they have a very good chance to make the playoffs. However, the team has been so up and down all year, especially on the road, that another really bad stretch wouldn’t shock me either.
And I have very big concerns about the bullpen. If Joba comes up and is effective that will ease my fears a bit. This next week is extremely important on the road against the Jays and the Tribe. If they can play well on the road against some decent to good teams it will go a long way to showing how good this team can be.
Don’t get too caught up with percentages.
Now, the real fun begins. The next 3 weeks are a bear for the Yankees, schedule-wise.
Those of us who are worried about the bullpen realize its not going to be HR Derby the rest of the way. At some point, you have to win the 1 and 2 run games, something this team hasn’t done all year.
If it could, we wouldn’t be talking about trying to make the playoffs, we would be arguing about the playoff rotation.
The bullpen needs to be re-done. I don’t think anybody can argue with that point. The question is, how far will they go to do it? Just Joba or, Joba and other reinforcements.
Personally, I hope its more than just Joba. At this point though, I’ll take anything because anything is an improvement to what’s out there.
We can all agree on this: Joba can really make this team a lot better if he can come in and do his thing. it’s scary counting on a young, unproven guy so much, but the precedent for success is there…the two World Series opponents last year relied heavily on rookie relievers, the Cardinals closer Wainright and Zumaya for the Tigers.
Don’t forget though…we have won 6 out of the last 7 series against teams with winning records. Don’t be so scared that everything is going to come down like a house of cards when we start to play better teams…this excellent streak we’re on now actually started before the all-star break with series wins against MIN and LAA.
The Yankees are GOOD folks. We’re a Joba and a Farnsworth DFA from being really really good. Enjoy the feeling of redemption! Now I gotta have a sunday. See y’all next time.
SJ44…I can’t imagine that there aren’t relievers to be had on the waiver trade market. C’mon Cash, take some risks, the team has earned it. I think getting Wickman to be Joba’s safety net, or another 7th inning guy if Joba works out, would be a great move. Ok, now I really say peace.
SJ, Joba is only one part of the solution….Britton who has MLB experience needs to be brought up….But something has to change if there’s any chance for a playoff run…..Bringing up all rooks is rather risky at this late stage of the season…But clearly the club needs help….
Cleveland lost too. Not to get to far ahead, but it is very conceivable the Yankees could wind up with the 2nd best record in the AL.
SJ44 I totally agree with you….
The tough part of the schedule is coming..that means close games…that means the bullpen needs to be changed with fresh arms…get Britton, Edwar, and Joba up here….Cashman, Torre, and Guidry can figure out who needs to go where from the pen now…this pen as currently built will not equal success in the playoffs….period!
How is Britton any better than Myers or Bruney? He doesnt have very good MLB numbers and he’s been doing OK in the minors. Let’s not tout him as some big improvement. At least Bruney or even Worthless have had success at the MLB level at some point. Even Myers has had success at times. Britton hasn’t proven himself, really. Let’s not act like he’s going to be our savior. Let’s bring him up, see how he does, then e valuate from there. Same with Edwar. It is very possible that Britton and Edwar could be WORSE than the relievers we have now.
I’d hope they are better, but they have not proven themselves yet so let’s not immediately call them upgrades. The same should go for Joba. He could easily be wild and perform like Farnsworth has, couldnt he? I mean, Kyle has a 98+ Fastball when he wants to and he gives up runs like crazy. His slider is also good. Sounds like Joba to me.
I think the moves will pan out if they are done, but let’s not act like it’s an obvious “given” that these are amazing upgrades. It’s Major league hitting, not AAA anymore. Anything could happen
Cashman told Suzyn and John changes were coming in the bullpen. I’m just glad we have good internal options.
Watching Torre’s inept bullpen management is like watching a root canal being performed on a big screen TV! To be sure, the bullpen arms are inconsistent but Torre’s use of his pitching staff makes matters much worse!
myers=waste
what a darn disgrace
MBF –
Not saying they’re really are the answer to our needs. They COULD be so they need to be given a chance since it doesn’t look like much help is on the way from elsewhere.
farnsworth and myers SUCK really bad. that is all.
i have a slider?
It’s easy to say that the bullpen needs major changes, but how you make those changes isn’t as easy. Chances are no one is going to claim farnsworth on waivers without his whole contract being picked up. Myers has a better chance. But what happens when you bring up the kids and they perform worse than the known commodities? I’m all for seeing what they can do, but I dont think that you can change 4-5 pitchers all at once and expect things to be immediately better.
Ryan if Farnsworth is not picked up that is even better they can send him down…
it is easier to make changes then you think if they have the guts to make the changes.. for yrs. the aynsk minor leagues have been friggin barren and now they have alot more talent and they refuse to take any chances with the younger guys and continue this INSANITY(doing the same thins as before and expecting different results when nothing has changed)..
bye everyone except viz and mariano… Bruney to SWB and the rest whatever DFA etc.. roll the friggin dice..
the yanks have the best run differential in baseball with a decent pen they should have 8 more wins………..
children look at what TORonto has done with there pitching issues..
bye bye ryan, chacin, and the stud from FLorida Burnett.
they have added marcum and mcgowan both look real real good. they have added litsch from AA and the pen is totally reconfigured. there pen is better then the yanks and they lost there friggin closer…League was hurt earlier in the season etc…
why can’t the yanks do that???????????????????????????????
they pitch better then the Yanks……
Farnsworth can’t be sent down even if he clears waivers unless he agrees to it which he won’t.
As long as the yankees are picking up the tab for the rest of this year and next he’ll have multiple teams trying to sign him. He’s a no risk proposition at that point.
That’s not a reason to keep him in the pen but its factor. Hopefully they can dump him somehow after he clears waivers.
At this point its better to try something than to continue with failure which is what this bullpen did.
Reinventing the bullpen on the fly worked for the Cardinals last year and if they hadn’t done that and just went with the known quantities they had in July/August they would have never won the series.
The yankees season may come down to taking a similar risk. It may not work out, but its clear that the present bull pen is wholly insufficient outside of Mo and Viz.
Bring up Joba and then 2 of the following 3 (whoever is throwing best) Edwar, Britton or Ohlendorf.
Wow, Seattle had something going against the Red Sox but they got caught stealing a base. Mathematically I’d prefer Boston to win today as long as Beckett suffers some kind of humiliating event.
cb you are a smart person..
I forgot STl has a worse pen then the Yanks also, then again there team is decimated by injuries..
The Cubs called up Marmol and he has done great..
Joe Kennedy was picked up by AZ yesterday he would be better then myers or villone………
watching a little dodger game here in la. Proctor walked the 1st guy in the 8th and then a SB. man on 2nd no outs.. Scott is oding his thing.. he walked the guy after being ahead in the count.. sounds familiar????
Ibanez had a Cano play. I think in the 4th 1st and 2nd 2 outs and Ichiro up.. Ibanez got picked off 2nd..
What a moron… that is not winning baseballl.
Well, Alan Horne had a rough outing in Trenton today.
5 8 6 6 3 6 1
I am not worried however because Horne has already eclipsed his inning total from last season; I assume he’s just getting tired.
If the Diamondbacks can eat 22 million dollars of Russ Oritz’s salary, the Yankees can eat some money.
Its August 5. Farnsworth and Myers aren’t going to get any better. They are what they are. In fact, they are getting worse.
Whatever success they may have had is in the past.
The “safe” thing to do is to trot them out, continue to watch them fail, then cry, “we tried, they were veterans and didn’t get the job done”.
The bold thing to do is remake the bullpen on the fly.
Clearly, there are forces within the organization who are looking to do just that or Joba Chamberlain would have never been converted into a relief pitcher.
OTOH, its clear some are resisting change.
Me? I vote for the remake. They aren’t making the playoffs and, if by chance they do, they aren’t going anywhere in them with the bullpen as presently constructed.
Its time to cut bait with the dead wood and try new faces.
No bold moves=no chance to make the playoffs. They aren’t winning close games with Mike Myers, Kyle Farnsworth, et al, stinking it up 4 times a week.
This team has played themselves back in the race. It would be a shame if fear of remaking the bullpen keeps them out of the playoffs. Do it Brian, regardless of what your manager may think.
if you think about it, the yankees are winning with the bad bullpen so there’s no reason they can’t continue doing that for the rest of the regular season. it’s not likely they’ll get worse because the bar is already set so low. the real problem is the playoffs when games usually become low scoring affairs.
chamberlain may be a big plus like k-rod that year with the angels. the fifth starter becomes a reliever so hughes or mussina goes to the pen depending how well each pitches the rest of the year. the biggest thing in the playoffs is that it’s a crap shoot and a small sample so who’s to say farnsworth won’t be lights out for a few weeks or someone else. a good reliever being added would of course be a plus, but this team could still go far with the pen it has. this is a team that has the potential to have really amazing hitting. usually good pitching beats good hitting, but sometimes great hitting beats good pitching. i think barring a surprise pick up, the really good offense is going to have to make up for the weak bullpen. we may just have to live through the bad bullpen this year. it doesn’t mean the yankees can’t win it all with a team that isn’t strong in all areas. st louis proved that last year.
Kyle is is $5.5 for next yr and the rest of this yr. chump change for the yanks…
Myers money is nothing… Bruney has options send him down.. Villone should be the last manin the pen. Give Karstens another outing or 2 if he fails he can enjoy SWB for the rest of the yr. the guys is 23 he can improve….
bring up 2 hopefully 3 arms.. they fail change them out. nothing ventured nothing gained…
Toronta has remade there whole pitching staff and have had many more injuries then the yanks…
dontfirecash,
I saw that on horne. he’s been slipping some so the thoughts on his inning totals are good ones.
That may be why they aren’t that eager to promote him? If he’s tired in AA sending him to AAA may not be the best idea, at this point.
He’s had a good season. Let him build on it.
I’m waiting to see if Ohlendorf throws today in Scranton.
Good article on Ohlendorf in the scranton paper today:
http://www.thetimes-tribune.co.....#038;rfi=6
While going with AAA arms clearly has risks, staying with Farnsy, Myers and Bruney has risks also. We know all too well about what these three are and bring to the table. They may represent the bigger risk.
I can only hope that the delay in moving people is because Cash is working on something that will make it worthwhile.
randy you are wrong a bad pen is exposed especially when you are playing teamswith good pens(ie most good teams). the yanks pen will be exposed more down the stretch…..
if they do not make changes that will be a hsame and Cashman should be ashamed of himself.
they need to mandate what TOrre does.. use the young guys……..
Good article CB, I hope Ross keeps it up. I was worried that the increase in velocity would affect his control but so far the results look pretty good.
I can’t speak for anybody else. All I can say is, if they remake the ‘pen with the young guys, and they fail, I will not second guess the decision.
Sometimes, you have to go against the chalk and make a bold move if you are going to win.
I doubt this offense is going to continue to average 10 runs a game against the better pitching they will face in the next 3 weeks. At some point, you have to pitch well, especially in the bullpen.
If they try it and it doesn’t work, that’s life. I would praise them for taking the risk.
Sticking with the status quo, in this instance, is a mistake, IMO.
Regarding the bullpen, I am kind of amazed that Cash hasn’t done anything yet besides trade Proctor. We have been talking about the ‘pen as a weakness for at least 2 months. I know they are getting ready to bring Joba up, but when? IMO, he’s got nothing left to prove in AAA(maybe he could pitch on back to back days but..) I just hope that Cash has something up his sleave other than Joba(either Edwar, Ohlendorf or a waiver claim/trade)
I agree with the sentiment on remaking the bullpen in a major way.
Doing what the Cardinals did last year with their pen is what’s needed.
Yes the cardinals did it due to injury but Farns, meyers and bruney are so ineffective its not much better than having guys on the DL.
Perhaps worse because they are useless and taking up roster spots. That’s part of the reason why they have to pitch (in addition to Torre’s poor bullpen management). When Yankee starters don’t go deep into games then the team is stuck. They can bridge it with Viz/ Mariano pitching more every once and a while but not frequently.
It’ll have to be catching lightening in a bottle a bit with this bullpen but that’s where they are.
I know its jumping the gun, but the goal is to make the playoffs and succeed.
This bull pen may be “good enough” to sneak into the wild card but there is little doubt it will not be good enough in the post season.
Given that you have to try with the kids in the pen.
Sticking with Farns, Meyers, Bruney isn’t a risk – we can be fairly assured by now they are going to fail – that’s not risk, its approaching certainty.
i just took a look at the regular season e.r.a.s of the bullpens of the last five world series winners and about half were better than the yankees bullpen era in 2007 and several were worse. take a look at the numbers of the bullpens of the last five world series winners and the yankees right now aren’t as bad as most on this blog think. i think because most fans hate farnsworth so much( including me) it seems the bullpen is worse than it is . the actual numbers tell a different story.
I wish Cash had made the trade with Atlanta. Swapping Wickman and Farnsworth isn’t really that great for the Yanks(Wickman seems to put a lot of runners on base) but at least the Yanks would have been rid of Farns. I know it sucks to pay a player to play for another team but in some cases, i.e. Farnsworth, it is worth it.
The key to remaking the bullpen is getting Joe to use the kids. There is no way that the bullpen can be 100% remade. Vizcaino will be here and so likely will Farnsworth. If we bring up some kids and Joe refuses to use them that will further the burnout of Vizcaino.
Edwar was up earlier and he went nearly two whole weeks without being used. And all I heard from the Torre defenders was that these games were too important to trust to Edwar.
Ideally, there would be a mix. Send down the Bruney and Karstens who have options. Consider releasing Myers. Bring up Joba and Edwar and use them. If they fail, go to Ohlendorf. If it turns out that these options are in fact worse than what you have, you still have the relievers you have now excluding maybe Myers.
Edwar, Joba, Ross whoever can be used with some wiggle room where Viz and Mo can bail them out. The key is having Torre use them. Will he?
As much as I want Farnsworth gone, this plan doesn’t even get rid of him because I know that will be hard.
The potential reward from taking this risk are worth it. The Yanks are right in the playoff race and should have some wiggle room to try new things now. Even a loss or two caused by the kids won’t kill them at this stage.
For all those who say Wang isn’t an ace, this is why he is. Even though he doesn’t strike batters out, he keeps his pitch count down and avoids reliance on a bad pen. Right now, that makes him the most valueable starter, because as Kaat would say, he becomes his own reliever.
Well, I retract my statement regarding the Atlanta trade. I forgot that the Yanks would also have to pay Wickman’s salary. Plus I just looked at Wickman’s stats and he has been terrible this year(1.47 whip, oppenents hitting .333 against him). The Yanks just need to get rid of Kyle. As has been suggested earlier on this blog, they should just buy him out a la Russ Ortiz and the D-backs.
“But at 61-50, the Yankees would need to go “onlyâ€? 34-17 to win 95 games. That’s .666 ball. ”
Just skimming through today’s posts and couldm’t let this one pass… .666?! The number of the beast huh? Thank goodness Giambi listens to metal!
Anyway, great outing from my man Moose today. Can his detractors now stop the hate?! Or at least take a brief break from it?!
Myers almost mucked the whole thing up though. All I have to say is *DFA!!!*
Bullpen e.r.a. is one of the worst statistics in baseball. because of the way earned runs are calculated.
% of inherited runners allowed to score is a much more meaningful stat.
The yankees relievers are terrible in that area. Look at meyers – again and again he comes in with men on base and gives up hits. Farns doesn’t as much because he is never, ever brough in int he middle of innings because of his delicate temperament. That in itself is damning because if you have a reliever who can’t be brought in to put out a rally what good is he?
Baseball prospectus has written extensively about the limitations of e.r.a when assessing relievers. It’s really not very useful at all.
Oh and I absolutely agree, we need to do with the pen this year what the Cards did last year. Give the youngsters a chance, they can’t be any worse than Farns and Myers!
If and when Cashman decides to shakeup the pen, he better do it soon….I would think he’d want them to get their feet wet vs. the lesser teams where their chances to well are better than throwing them into the fire vs. the teams that are in the playoff mix….I still see Bruney getting his act together as opposed to the likes of Farnsworth & Meyers…..Roll the dice now, it has to be better than what we’ve been getting….Get them into the best situation to succed now…Confidence is so important of young players….
Well said CB. Heres a stat that really says alot about the pen. The Yankees pen has given up the 3rd most amount of walks behind only *Florida* and *Tampa Bay*.
bullpen eras for last 5 world series winners
yankees 2007 era-3.78
cardinals 2006 era-4.06
chicago 2005 era-3.23
boston 2004 era-3.87
marlins 2003 era-4.27
angels 2002 era-2.98
“% of inherited runners allowed to score is a much more meaningful stat.”
cb- so what are the numbers for % of inherited runners for the last five world series winners?
since most of the time the inherited runner is also from a reliever, the reliever era stats seem like they would reflect things pretty accurately . i don’t follow the logic that reliever era is a bogus stat .
Yankee Front Office has committed to Torre’s management style for the remainder of 2007. Unfortunately that includes his pitching decisions.
My bet is that Myers will go nowhere. They are too afraid of DFA him now when they can send down a player who still has options. Cashman and Torre probably have thoughts of Myers reappearing to face Yankee lefties during the playoff stretch. Watching Torre’s body language today, it would not surprise me if Bruney was sent to Scranton in favor of Joba in order to work on his command until the September 1 roster expansion.
I agree with many who said that August will be a huge test in determining whether or not the .700 winning percentage is legit or a mirage.
Ohlendorf looked good in his first inning of work 3 up 3 down. Struck out 2.
Agree with LathamJoe, it’s almost a given that Bruney is going down again, from a combination of his own lack of control and JoTo’s lack of trust in him.
Moving Bruney is the easiest move – he has options. The hard part is Farnsy/Myers. Maybe this is what Cash has been working on. I hope.
latham Joe what are you talking about??? Scared of DFAing Myers, why???
He sucks and is 38 yrs old..
Are you watching thr games Myers SUCKS.. HIS ERA is a mirage, look at inherited runners and BA against lefties he is pathetic………………………………………………………………………………………….
Myers makes pennies dump him that is not real hard… the guy has less the n$500 k on his contract for the rest of the yr.. You guys looking to save $500k are you out of your friggin minds???????????????????????
classic Gimbi with a throwing error for SWB.. The guy cannot throw a baseball.. On the other hand man Phillips is a damn good fielder and he loves to throw to 2nd…
Phillips has been very solid.. Yeah 2 HR’s, who gives a damn there offense is obscene and there bench is very good.
say goodbye to Cairo, myers, and krazy boy….bye bye.. what will I have to complain about once they do that??
Nothing……………
randy,
Irregardless of why runners are on base one of a relief pitchers primary jobs is to prevent them from scoring. None of those “inherited runners” scored ever counts against his E.R.A.
A “lefty specialist” like meyers may only fact 1 or 2 batters per outing often with men on base. Say he comes in with a man on first, faces one hitter gives up a double and the run scores. That run is charged to the prior pitcher. The relief pitcher’s E.R.A. is unchanged.
Here is a very good description of why bullpen e.r.a. is worthless. It’s from Steve Goldman over at the Pinstripbed Bible
Read his response to the letter asking about the Scott Proctor trade:
TO THE MATS WITH READER MAIL
PROCTORIZING
http://web.yesnetwork.com/news.....038;vkey=6
Stuart:
I’m not running the Team, You’re not running the team….
It’s the Cashman Torre “braintrust” making those decisions!
Ya git where I’m comin’ from??????
yeah but your comment on why keep Myers around is moronic.. the guy sucks, is 38, and makes peanuts.. resolution
GET RID OF HIM NOW………..
Our bullpen sucks. Now on to other positive signs for the Yanks…
Mussina is pitching very well again. I know the naysayers will point to the lowly royals. They are still a major league baseball team and two earned runs as a number 4-5 pitcher through six is a solid day at the office.
Some other positives. For all the Moose bashers, he has now given the yanks a solid chance to win ten of his past 11 outings, with only one hard core meltdown. The rest of those games he gave up 3 earned runs or less.
Some of you stress how meaningless relief pitcher ERA is. It can also be extremely deceiving for a starter. If a guy gives up a 100 earned runs in one game, and shutouts out teams the next ten, his ERA is through the roof, yet he has been solid over 90% of the time. An extreme example to highlight my point.
Moose is pitching very well in the role he serves. In reality his ERA isn’t much different from other guys like clemens and petitte, two guys considered to be effective starters for us by many.
I implore everyone to look at the individual outings before concluding a the guy is a failure based on a seemingly poor ERA.
He is going to need bullpen help, something he may or may not get, as he wont last more than 6 innings usually. He is certainly keeping us in games the vast majority of the time.
Our offense is explosive. I cant remember the last time we, or any team went on this kind of offensive eruption. Cano and Matsui are on a tear, raising their pathetic pre break averages significantly. Cano in particular was hitting so poorly, that many here were ready to trade him for a bag of beans. Now he is hitting everything, and more importantly, fielding gold glove caliber defense at second.
Matsui thinks the home run derby is a season long contest that started 5 weeks ago. There were many calls to dump this guy too. Not to mention Abreu. Last month the top five in total hits in the AL were all Yankees. Guess who? AROD was not one of the five. The offense is so loaded that a mediocre utility guy comes over in a so so trade and immediately catches fire. Torre doesn’t know who to play because everyone is hitting so well.
We need the relief to tie all of this together however, and like many of you, I await Cashman’s next move. Without the ability to win low scoring close games, something we haven’t been able to do, we will disappoint in the playoffs.
BJ
He’ll be staying I regert to say….He’s the only lefty option they have, and he’s average at best….Somehow they need to find arms that don’t walk hitters at an alarming rate, and are able to not pitch to contact all the time…..The answers to both concerns are in Scranton…..Make the moves now…..
Pat M one problem with your solution is Myers CANNOT GET OUT LEFTIES.. THEY ARE HITTING OVER 350 on the yr off him…
Again over 350………..that is not real good…….
Stuart:
Shut your XBox off and go do your homework, it’s getting near your bedtime!
I understand completely, he’s useless in our opinion….However he’s lefthanded, and Torre will not go against the book…Viz had the rep in Arizona to be better vs. LH than Rh….But Torre has become so conventional and predictable the last several years……So I suspect Meyers is staying and Torre will keep rooling the dice with him…..
cb-
thanks for the goldman link. i get it with an individual like myers that era is deceptive, but team reliever era is a different situation. only once in a game do relievers inherit runners from a starter. the rest of the time it’s relievers inheriting runners from other relievers so the run gets counted on some reliever’s era. so i think team reliever era is a valid stat, and like you say, individual reliever era can be misleading.
ny original point is that the yankees team reliever era is not that bad compared to teams that have won the last five world series, and that thay can win the whole thing with what they have though i’d like to see improvement too.
i’m waiting to see chamberlain after everything that has been written about him. the yankees have taken a supportive role in trying to help farnsworth. maybe they should go the other way and crack the whip with him to see if that works better. if nothing else maybe he’d crack and quit and they’d be out of the contract. i think his rep as a tough guy is vastly overblown.
this is a pitching mechanics issue ,but didn’t guidry move myers to the right side of the rubber to make him more effective against righties. if he did, maybe he should move him back to see if it gets him back to where he was with lefties.
Anyone see Seattle’s Moose mascot almost run over Boston Red Sox CF Coco Crisp with a golf cart in front of Boston’s dugout? One of the Boston coaches had some not so kind words for that Northwestern U.S. ruminant LOL. At some point one Seattle pitcher put Coco on his stomach.
I’m glad Boston beat Seattle cuz now the Yanks are tied with Seattle as well as a half-game behind Detroit for the wildcard
& only one game behind Cleveland.
Fellas – no need to hate on me. There’s not a chance that the Yankees will make the playoffs, just because of what happened today. The bullpen, by far, is just too inconsistent. If they pick up a decent reliever, who can throw strikes, and get batters out, then I’ll start believing in a playoff run. Until then, I’m not going to lie to myself…and say they have “clinched” the Wild Card in the AL, I just won’t.
I hope I’m wrong about my prediction about an early offseason, but I doubt it. When I make predictions, they are often right.
steve lombardi-
it’s not like you’re gammons. why do you think your opinion is important enough to hate? if it makes you feel better to be negative ,knock yourself out. it works for kasey . why not for you.
i think the yankees are going to win it all. the offense is pretty amazing. there’s some clutch pitchers on the team who can come up big in the playoffs. they’ve got as good a shot as anyone.
Cashman and Torre would rather send a younger pitcher with options down than to give up on a veteran that has some value. If Myers was going to be DFA’d it would have been before the July trading deadline. Unless they can find an alterantive for a “lefty specialist”, Myers will stay.
I’m in full agreement with Stuart. Myers and Farnsworth are cogs in the wheel and MUST go. Myers is useless and Farnsworth is a cancer on the team, plain and simple. Both are easily replaced, youth or otherwise. The Yankees are in 2 separate pennant races and there’s no room or time for continued failure by Myers and Farnsworth. Teams haven’t seen Edwar, Joba, Britton, or Ohlendorf so the Yankees are on equal footing right there.
The old adage: He who hesitates is lost.
” When I make predictions, they are often right.”
Steve Lombardi:
Can you give me your “predictions” for the winners of the first five races at Saratoga tommorrow????????
Seriously, if Joba Chamberlain comes up and fills the 8th inning role as effectively as he’s been throwing in AAA, the bullpen could experience a turnaround in August.
Viz, Joba, Mo would be pretty decent IF Torre can save them from overwork. Farns is worthless right now, but has the stuff to make an “about face”. A lefty specialist is needed and that’s why Torre will likely keep Myers, hoping that he can regain some of his effectiveness.
Offense? This Team can hit with anybody when they’re going right!
Latham Joe:
If Myers is a so-called “lefty specialist”, he’s shown little of it.
randy l – I don’t think I’m Gammons, I know I’m better then him…but, it doesn’t take much to be better then him. My predictions are ALWAYS right, no?
IMHO, the Yankees have no shot, but, again, that’s just my opinion.
FWIW, when I’m right about this, just like I was about wanting Robinson out of New York for Jason Michaels (just kidding), I’ll shove it in your face.
Latham Joe cute comment about the xbox, moron.. I have been watching the Yanks since about 1970 and my 3 kids have a wii and game cube but no xBox..
Myers has value!!!!!!
What do you smoke? I want some of that…
Myers has no value..I guess Cairo and Bubba Crsby(had) have value also.. That is right the Yanks are worried about paying the $500k on Myers contract..
You are a real sharpie, apply for some GM jobs, Tampa is looking for a person, maybe with your astute knowledge you can help them!!!Or maybe go to work for Joe Bowden at Washington….
I agree, Brad. But there’s few options left (no pun intended) at this late date.
Personally, I’d rather see Villone against a lefty than Myers, but he also is inconsistent around the strike zone.
steve-
your website looks decent with some cogent commentary, but you sound like you’ve had a few too many tonight.
i’m with latham joe that this offense can hit with anyone.
Guys, this is probably a doppelganger pretending to be Lombardi….
VIllone stinks also and cannot be trusted. as of August 5th 2007 the Yanks have 2 relief pitchers that you can trust to pitch consistently fairly well. Mariano is still great and his #’s have been great.. He stumbled early in the yr. but for over 2 months has been great. Viz has pitched very well for minimum 1.5 months. they have NO ONE ELSE that has shown any consistency and is worth pitching in a big spot. None of the kyle, villone, myers, bruney, karstens, and others have earned any trust at all and can implode at any moment…
they have a $200 mill payroll but have bottom 5 bullpens in baseballl…that is scary… and talking about tweeking villone vs myers vs some other stiff will not get it done..
yeah villone and myers and the other guys seem to be nice guys but who really gives a s–t.. we only want them to get hitter out at a reasonable level…. they need minimum 2 arms immediately else they will not make the playoffs unless the offense continues at these phenomenal pace.
also who give a cr-p what peter gammons says, you play the game on the filed the rest is noice and irrelevant..
I do hope gammons is right on the joba and ohlendorf impending callups, please g-d.
I get the feeling that this Steve Lombardi is an imposter.
The real Steve doesn’t come in here and bicker with people. He just comes in here, drops a stat or two, and leaves.
OK, fine, I’ll admit I’m wrong sometimes, but, I won’t be wrong about this one: The Yankees won’t make the playoffs.
I was wrong about wanting Karstens and Rasner as our #4 and #5 starter. I was also wrong about saying the Red Sox would finish third in the AL East, and the Blue Jays would be the Yankees’ biggest obstacle. But, the rest I’m right about.
And, the Yankees are beating teams they SHOULD beat…But, they won’t beat teams like the Red Sox, Tigers, and Indians – what do you all think of where they’ll finish?
Me? 5 out of the WC, and 12 out of the AL East. Mark it down, boys!
This will be my last post for the night – I’m finishing up my Yankees game review, and then heading off to bead.
Take care folks.

“Myers has no value..I guess Cairo and Bubba Crsby(had) have value also.. That is right the Yanks are worried about paying the $500k on Myers contract..”
Stuart, My baseball knowledge-challenged friend:
Mike Myers makes $1.25 Mil in the final year of his 2-year Yankee deal, not $500,000. He has an ERA of 2.50 and a 1.29 WHIP, something that many MLB teams would likely use if he was DFA’d. Picture Abreu or Cano batting against him in a key late inning situation…….
Cairo is a solid utility player who helped them in 2004, played an important role in 2006 when Cano was down for a month, and filled in quite well at first during the recent surge at the beginning of July. He may not have eye-popping stats, but he can field, run well, and advances runners when called upon.
If you’ve been watching the Yankees since the 70s, then 30-something years is a long time of making observations with your head in your butt!
how is an ERA ever a mirage ? That is just plain silly !
GreenTeaSucks August 5th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
“Torre just made a call to the Dodger bullpen trying to warm up Proctor.”
LOL. that’s the best line I’ve heard today
Steve Lombardi is obviously a fake based on his poor grammar:
“Steve Lombardi

randy l – I don’t think I’m Gammons, I know I’m better then him…but, it doesn’t take much to be better then him. My predictions are ALWAYS right, no?”
…should be better THAN him
I guess FAKE Steve Lombardi will learn the difference between THEN and THAN when he enters the 6th grade this fall.
