Here are the lineups:

YANKEES
Damon LF
Jeter SS
Abreu RF
Rodriguez 3B
Posada C
Cano 2B
Phillips 1B
Duncan DH
Cabrera CF
Clemens RHP (3-5, 4.23)

BLUE JAYS
Johnson LF
Overbay 1B
Rios RF
Wells CF
Thomas DH
Glaus 3B
Hill 2B
Zaun C
McDonald SS
Towers RHP (5-8, 5.17)

Pregame chatter: Jason Giambi, who appears to be in great shape, said he understood how well the team was playing and was prepared to do whatever Torre asked him. … Joba Chamberlain is an impressive young man. Walked around the clubhouse introducing himself to every player and coach. He is going to pitch tonight. … The Yankees have two of the youngest pitchers in the majors in Chamberlain and Hughes. Felix Hernandez and Yovani Gallardo are the others.

Back with more shortly including (hopefully) Joba audio.

UPDATE, 6:16 p.m.: Eureka, if you move up one row in the press box, the wireless is strong enough to upload audio.

Here is Joba Chamberlain’s first MLB interview. Very composed kid, you’ll like this:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

UPDATE, 6:31 p.m.: Here is even more audio:

Joe Torre:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

and Jason Giambi:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

UPDATE, 9:07 p.m.: Man, do I hate the wireless here. Seems my posts weren’t being saved. To sum up, Posada is good, nobody can get Melky out, there was nearly a fight and Clemens is pitching a gem.

Sorry for the technical issues.

UPDATE, 10:01 p.m.: That’s one K for Joba. Quite a start for the kid. This is fun to watch.

UPDATE, 10:06 p.m.: A walk? A walk? Now a hit? Somewhere in a Toronto airport bar, Brian Bruney just finished a beer and yelled, “I can do that,” at the television.

UPDATE, 10:19 p.m.: Quite an eventful game. Back later with some audio and the lame excuses about the benches clearing. Teams never admit to anything, it’s funny.

Meanwhile, Clemens could face a suspension.

    Go Yankees! Younger, stronger!!!

  2. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 6:12 pm

Yankee fans all over are gonna love the way Joba pitches !

  3. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:12 pm

    Imagine the bench today!!!

    Giambi, Matsui, Betemit,……
And there is no weak spot in the starting line up.
Who would have thought about it a month back?

Soon we would be talking about the same about bullpen!!!!!!

  4. will August 7th, 2007 at 6:14 pm

Also, how nice is it to be able to look at the lineup and not consider damon, abreu, phillips, and cano’s spots weak anymore.

  5. IowaBoy August 7th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

er… NOW can we get rid of Farnsworthless? There HAS to be a way. Would MUCH rather see a youngster up here in his place. If does no better, at least the kid would be learning to pitch in the bigs. Not much hope that Farns with a million dollar arm and a ten cent attitude would have even close to as large an upside as one of the youngsters. Rebuild… er… RELOAD from within.

  6. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

We are down 6 games to Boston.
By the time this series is over we will be down 5 courtesy to Angels.

We are martching towards the divison title.
    No stopping us now…..
    Boston, here we come.

Why isn’t Giambi getting a start at DH vs the RHP?

  9. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 6:16 pm

Damon Oppenheimer deserves a raise man… He is the draft guru.. Chamberlain 41st pick.. Giambi said he looks awesome…

Hughes and Joba 21 yrs old each……Melky 23 and Cano 24.. I thought we were old a decrepite!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Vito August 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

Wang, Cano, Cabrera, Hughes, Joba – nice foundation for the 2010′s, not to mention the other tlanets on the horizon – Tabata et all

  11. Tim August 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

I’m sorry to hear Miguel Cairo was DFA. I liked him alot. I wish him well..

  12. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

still have 12 pitchers on the roster I think…

Will they ever go to 11 and add a position player off the bench?????

they have backup catcher, Inf. dh/1B, and OF. today there bench is matsui, giambi, betemit, and molina that is a good team…..

  13. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

I know every one hates Kyle.
But, before the season is over, he will help.
He has the stuff. He just needs to change his attitude.
With the kids coming up and he being viewed as dispensable, I believe it will change him.

  14. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 6:18 pm

Cairo was a good guy and love the yanks.. maybe he will be back you never know………

he also wanted to be in NY….

  15. DCYankee August 7th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

Can’t wait to see Joba in the late innings tonight. Go get em Rocket!

  16. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:20 pm

    Fear Factor,

    Are you very fearful today?
You keep posting the same stuff 100 times today.

Come and post it after today’s game.
Not this line, the actual line in today’s game.

  17. briggs August 7th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

Joba will tank like he did in the futures game

  18. Vito August 7th, 2007 at 6:21 pm

Again, I ask why no Giambi tonight? If he is ready to play then put him in at DH vs the RHP. Is his first game back going to be Wed instead vs Halladay? That makes no sense. If Giambi wasn’t going to start tonight why activate him and DFA Cairo? Might as well wait until you get to Cleveland Friday and give him more rehab at bats in the minors.

  19. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 6:22 pm

Good Moves for the Yankees (DFA’ing Cairo, Demoting Bruney, promoting Joba).

Cairo is a good man and teammate, but a mere shadow compared to Betemit talents. Bruney needs to accept his demotion with some grace and realize he needs to fine tune his mechanics and control.

Farns is the last pimple on the Yankees’ collective a$$ that needs to be popped. The sooner, the better.

  20. Fear Factor August 7th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Joba Chamblain vs. Toronto on August 7:

    IP H R ER HR BB K

  21. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Pete, is there ANY chance that Torre stands up to Derek and sits him for the good of the team? It seems like, with two righty starters in a row, this’d be a great time to get Betemit in there and give jeet a nice chunk of time off, with the day on thursday.

  22. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Giambi probably will come in as a pinch hitter later in the game if it’s close (or a blow out).

  23. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 6:24 pm

Where is matsui? He DHed yesterday they have an off day thusday so im guessing he has bad numbers vs todays starer.

  24. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:24 pm

Giambi will pinch hit for Duncan at some point during the game. Duncan has to play sometime and today is the right time. He will not start against tough righ hander Hallady tomorrow. Giambi will start that game.

  25. briggs August 7th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Joba will tank like he did in the futures game!!

  26. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 6:26 pm

great joba audio, pete. i’m excited for the kids. if he and hughes are able to succeed on this level this year, it could really propel this team.

i love giambi as much as the next guy, but let’s not kid each other. it’s been years since he was in “great shape.”

  27. mel August 7th, 2007 at 6:27 pm

I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong about Cairo being DFA’ed. Torre has completely lost control of this team. First Proctor, then Myers, now Cairo. lol.

Cairo was a good guy and did a good job. Of course now that Cairo’s gone, Andy’s bat will cool off.

  28. Rattachewy August 7th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

    briggs has short-term memory loss.

  29. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:28 pm

    Torre’s moves tody are calculated…..

He is benching Matsui, who never complain.
Also, he is second best on the team behind A-rod right now (Posada and Jeter were better earlier, before any one jumps at this statement!).

It is a message to others who will be benched that every one has to sacrifice for the good of the team.

  30. Vito August 7th, 2007 at 6:31 pm

  31. Billy Jack August 7th, 2007 at 6:32 pm

What would the Yankees have said if Joba went out in the Futures Game throwing 100. Someone’s head was going to roll. Hughes had a rough time last year in the Futures Game. That really stopped him, huh?

  32. Rob NY August 7th, 2007 at 6:33 pm

Joba will be fine… imo if Edwar can k the side we should see at least 2 from joba

  33. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 6:33 pm

    “Torre’s moves tody are calculated…..”

It also may have something to do with the way a lot of our vets struggle against guys they haven’t seen much. This guy owned them last time they saw him, so maybe by putting in players who just keep it simple (Duncan), we can do a bit better.

  34. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 6:34 pm

“Matsui hit a HR off Towers 3 weeks ago”

    Ah.

Then I disagree with putting him on the bench today:-) I guess he felt Damon and Duncan needed to play.

  35. Jamie CT August 7th, 2007 at 6:34 pm

“I’m going to throw the ball over the plate and if they hit it, they hit it. So be it. ” – Joba

    THANK YOU CA$HMONEY

  36. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 6:34 pm

    Briggs,
Joba tanked in the futures game? Last I checked he gave up one run on a weak single and looked pretty damn overpowering otherwise.

  37. ROY August 7th, 2007 at 6:36 pm

I guess some do know their history.

  43. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 6:41 pm

When we win today and Angels beatup on Sox, these trolls will not know what hit them.

  44. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 6:42 pm

Good question by Stef in an earlier post that was never answered…thought i’d post again for her since i’m curious as well.

“Pete—it was reported on ESPN that Bruney kicked over a chair in anger on his way out. Is this typical of his general attitude? I thought he was thrilled to be with the Yankees? Was he adversely affected by Farnsworth while he was with the club?

Did you see the scene yourself?”

  45. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 6:42 pm

Matsui is 5-22 lifetime against Towers.

Torre is doing the smart thing. Getting Duncan AB’s and resting guys who are sore.

If they win tonight, it wouldn’t shock me to see Jeter and Posada rest tomorrow so they have two full days off.

Got to win a series before you decide to rest too many people.

  46. S.o.S.27 August 7th, 2007 at 6:43 pm

Lead down to 4 by end of tomorrow.

Boston Massacre 3 by the end of the month.

    Division is ours Sept.1

  47. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 6:44 pm

Matsui’s knee is bothering him so they are giving him the day off…….

If Bruney is smart he will work on his control and then come back…

  48. Jamie CT August 7th, 2007 at 6:45 pm

I’m not a troll and im actually being serious. I’d rather Giambi was on roids’ then him stinking up the joint and getting hurt. Without his roids’ we wouldn’t have beaten the Sox in the 2003 ALCS

“Towers didn’t own us – we smoked him:”

    Again, I am wrong:-)

When people post those pitching lines and the spacing gets all messed up I always misread them.

Besides, Pete just explained the Matsui sitting issue. Those career numbers make it look like a good call as well.

  51. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 6:51 pm

The nightly exercise of some whining about the lineup when its posted is one of the great things about this blog.

Some, have legitimate questions. Others just whine for the sake of whining.

The Yankees FINALLY have a bench. You can’t kill Torre for trying to use it.

Tonight’s bench is: Molina, Matsui, Giambi and Betemit. I’d say its a “slight” upgrade from: Kevin Thompson, Cairo, Wil Nieves, and Josh Phelps.

Let the guy do his job and enjoy the embarrassment of riches they now have on the bench.

  52. briggs August 7th, 2007 at 6:51 pm

joba gaurenteed to pitch the 3rd inning today

  53. mel August 7th, 2007 at 6:55 pm

    briggs,

Is that how they spell ‘guaranteed’ in Canada?

  54. Yankee VIP August 7th, 2007 at 6:56 pm

Sore knees for matsui doesnt sound good. maybe give him a few days off and let giambi get a few at bats at DH.

i think joba is going to be something special. i really really hope pitching this year in the pen doesnt hurt him in the long run..i doubt it will, but you never know… (wang, hughes and joba starting next year sounds nice to me).

shame cairo had to go.. he gave everything he had for this team. wasnt there a way to hide him on the DL or something.

betimit is obviously an upgrade to cairo, and having Rightie/Leftie power between duncan and giambi is damn good, but if duncan goes Kevin Mass on us, im sure we would love to have cairo back.

  55. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 7:01 pm

“but if duncan goes Kevin Mass on us, im sure we would love to have cairo back.”

Then we can just call up Chris Basak. They’re pretty much the same player, except Basak has a stronger arm. Or, since Betemit can play 3B, SS, and 2B just fine we can call up Thompson and have another great pinch runner.

  56. ... August 7th, 2007 at 7:02 pm

  67. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:11 pm

IT IS YANKEES TIME !!! Time to bring the division lead within 5 games by the time we get through THRASHING the JAYS and the BoSux and their resident fossil underhand pitcher get stomped by the Angels….SWEET…not a Home Run by Damon, but an infield single to start the game JOKER !!! LOL !!!

  68. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:11 pm

That is one scorching opposite field liner for a man who often resembles Juan Pierre in steroid withdrawal.

His lack of power is more than just a problem. If he wasn’t walking well above his career walk rate, he’d be Tony Womack.

  69. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:12 pm

    there you go kaj.

  70. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:13 pm

  71. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:15 pm

Kaj, it’s not a good team when it relies on luck to win. It’s a lucky team.

  72. Jamie CT August 7th, 2007 at 7:15 pm

whats the deal with the horns?

  73. Phi August 7th, 2007 at 7:15 pm

According to Kim Jones, both Matsui and Jeter have nagging injuries that they’ve been fighting through.

  74. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:15 pm

  75. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:16 pm

Kaj, it’s not a good team when it relies on luck to win. It’s a lucky team.

Who said we are relying on luck, dude ? Luck is sometimes in your favor and sometimes not. If you think this Yankee team is not good, then you must be a Boston fan and that is really too bad for you.

  79. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:21 pm

    Clemens with the hook!

  80. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:22 pm

No, I’m quite the Yankee fan. I’m also a fan of advanced statistical analysis. And half of what they do is attempt to measure a teams ability with luck taken out of the equation.

That Johnny Damon will slap a little single and once in a while score to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead does not mean he should be leading off. Cabrera has the same skill set and does it better at this point.

  81. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

ron i agree he shouldnt be leading off but i doubt hed be happy with being deep in the order. not the way it should but but you dont want an unhappy damon

  82. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

See, Clemens was just really f’ing lucky.

  83. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

whats the over/under for showing chamberlain today? 5.5?

  84. Oscar Azocar's Mole August 7th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain = Mark Hutton and Domingo Jean.

  85. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:27 pm

No, I want the best possible players on the field at all times. That means Johnny Damon riding the bench, and not being the most punchless DH this side of Jose Vidro.

  86. Anthony August 7th, 2007 at 7:28 pm

    Go JOBA!!

  87. BuffaloHead August 7th, 2007 at 7:28 pm

I think someone has a “crush” on Joba the Tub.

  88. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:29 pm

  90. Oscar Azocar's Mole August 7th, 2007 at 7:30 pm

Stop da hype. It’s made Posada think he is a fast runner again.

  91. Oscar Azocar's Mole August 7th, 2007 at 7:31 pm

Ya, go Joba! Way to sit on that bench in the bullpen! Alright! Woo hoo!

    All in good fun…

  92. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 7:31 pm

terrible baserunning by posada. haven’t seen them making many mental mistakes lately, but that was a biggie.

  93. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 7:31 pm

The playing time between Damon and Giambi at DH should be divided 75/25 with Giambi getting the majority. The DH is a pure offensive position and Giambi is 10x the offensive player Damon is now.

  94. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:32 pm
  95. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:32 pm

  96. Vinny 5743 August 7th, 2007 at 7:33 pm

I like the way the fans talk about bringing up players like they are interchangable car parts. Reality break here. Not all players on the farm can cut it at ML level.

  97. Oscar Azocar's Mole August 7th, 2007 at 7:34 pm

Check it out, when Joba enters the game in Yankee Stadium, say in the 7th or 8th inning, I think they should play an excerpt from Return of the Jedi before whatever heavy metal/rap song he choses:

C3PO: The illustrious Jabba hopes you will die honorably…

    Cue music…

    Awesome, right?

  98. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:34 pm

blazin’ phillips !…that is OK…here comes DUNCAN !

  99. kd August 7th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

  100. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

I can’t get over the fact that he looks like Frankenstein and his first name is Shelley.

  101. LCâ„¢ August 7th, 2007 at 7:35 pm

Did Kenny say that Brian Bruney wasn’t pleased about getting sent down? Or did I misunderstand him?

  102. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

No, Vinny. And not all major leaguers can cut it either. Like Johnny Damon and Miguel Cairo.

  103. Oscar Azocar's Mole August 7th, 2007 at 7:36 pm

He looks like David Weathers on slim fast.

  104. Bry Guy August 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

  105. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

    EXXXACT SAME pitch

  106. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 7:39 pm

Cairo will make it through waivers and return in September when rosters expand. I bet he makes it on the playoff roster as well.

Marvelous Miguel Cairo will be back!

  107. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:41 pm

    a thing of beauty !

  108. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 7:42 pm

I never remember–what do the rosters expand to?

  109. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 7:43 pm

The DUncan K was a friggin ball..

Jorge has never been a good baserunner and he sure is slow.. Faster then Giambino but probablt the 3rd slowest on th eteam after giambi and molina… the 3 of them are tortoises but still faster then frank thomas…

  110. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

They expand to 40 on Sept 1st.

  111. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

    hahaha heads up play melky

  112. Vinny 5743 August 7th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

    Ron,
While I wasn’t speaking to you or even about anything you said I’ll inject my 2 cents here.
I guess you are another one of those “what have you done for me lately” fans who expect immediate gratification on every play and on every at bat or the player is worthless.
Damon, IMO, since he was hurt last year, had not been the same player. He’s had a poor first half of a season. I will agree with that. That happens to many players who are quality players. They can also bounce back in the second half of the year, which it seems Damon is doing. Not as good as he was but improving. I guess players can’t slump or they are bums and must be traded. Jeter isn’t hitting now, neither is Arod to a degree, want to get rid of them too ??? Some of you guys go too far.
As for Cairo, he wouldn’t have even been here if Cashman could have signed Betemit when he wanted to last year, he missed out. So once he got Betemit now, I expected Cairo’s time to be limited. He did his job as a backup well enough. He’s not a star and was a marginally paid player so what’s all the fuss about. Need to complain about something ???

  113. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 7:47 pm

Maybe that’s why I always forget. How do you fit 40 people in that dugout?!

  114. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:49 pm

that was a NUGLY bunt attempt….

  115. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:50 pm

    damn

  116. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:51 pm

LUCKY BLUE JAYS !!! LOL !

  117. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:51 pm

    Wow that’s crappy luck.

  118. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 7:53 pm

Should sit Jeter and play Betemit. Jeter’s scuffling.

  119. anthony ca August 7th, 2007 at 7:53 pm

i feel like Jete GIDPs every week

  120. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

    NICE BOBBY!

  121. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

that’s a ton of missed opportunities already, but thankfully abreu picked jeter up.

  122. Boston Yankee August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

luck in the wrond direction. havent seen that for awhile actually. you only notive something like that when its gone (or doesnt go your way) is there a chance abreu gets that hit in may?

  123. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

Yes the skill to finish the play after snagging the ball in the first place was totally non-existent…total 100% Luck…they should NOT count those outs in the Box Score, huh, Ron ! LOOK AT THAT ! Abreu was LUCKY enough to have the pitcher throw the ball RIGHT AT HIS BAT ! LOL !

  124. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

    Bobbo!

  125. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

Jeter needs to sit. The fact that he tried to bunt shows that he doesn’t feel he can drive the ball, and he’s not helping the team by playing hurt. I don’t care how much fans love a warrior. He needs to take a couple days around the off-day and get healthy.

  126. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

    ABREUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!

  127. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:54 pm

    Reed Johnson is a riot.

Sunny, Johnny Damon has been craptacular this year. Jeter has been very, very good for his position. So it isn’t exactly the same thing.

  128. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 7:55 pm

Jeter needs a couple of days off and heal

  129. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 7:55 pm

    Brawl?

  130. YanksFanLV August 7th, 2007 at 7:55 pm

Man A-Rod keeps getting thrown at. Roger needs to come out fireballin on the first pitch.

  131. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 7:55 pm

    GET EM JOBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FIGHT!!

  132. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

kasey…a TON ? really a whole TON ??? Dude, you have to be the most negative person on the planet…..really…totally 100% negative…

  133. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

Kaj, he hit a moderately well hit grounder up the middle, and the pitcher executed a rare 1-5-3 DP. Credit to Towers for the play, but that was still crappy luck.

  134. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

    Bush league

  135. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

did you see Bowa’s eyes?!! I thought he was going to rumble!

  136. kd August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

i’m watching on game day. was it intentional?

  137. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

    is arod hurt?

  138. kidjock August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

I though this was over yesterday when they threw behind A-rod. The Blue Jays suck.

  139. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

    Where’d alex get hit?

  140. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

kasey has apoint… three runs in low scoring games is a ton. opportunity is an opportunity. it could be 3-0 instead of 1-0.

  141. EY August 7th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

What the heck, first pitch Towers aimed straight at the knees. You can tell that he was on purpose.

  142. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

screw that. we need rocket to keep pitching and beat them the right way. we need W’s…not brawls with bush league teams.

  143. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Alex got hit on the knee. After Towers hit him, he told A-Rod to just go to 1st…wait…they’re about to fight!

  144. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

from gameday it looks like the thigh

  145. Jay August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

    go arod

  146. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

WTF is Matt Stairs this guy is a clown

  147. ae@dpu August 7th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Does Josh Towers really believe he has the status to tell A-Rod to point to first base and tell him to go to first? A perennial MVP candidate vs. a guy who is 5-8 this year. Worthless.

  148. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

What a disgrace. This is ridiculous.

  149. Billy August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

If the Yanks have any heart, they’ll pound Towers now.

But knowing them, they won’t score another run.

  150. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

what pansies. nah. arods fine. hit him around the knee. theyre emptying the dugouts again right now.

  151. David August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Sopcast channels are offline all of a sudden. Anyone got a channel that works?

  152. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

What really stinks is that the last thing we need is to have anyone thrown out of the game – so a warning’s been issued and we can’t retaliate.

  153. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Don’t worry..Joba will be throwing 100+ inside fastballs soon enough. Although with the stupid warnings it really hurts the Yanks ability to pitch inside.

  154. kd August 7th, 2007 at 8:00 pm

will someone please summarize what happened for those of us watching on mlb game day?

  155. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:00 pm

dude, i WOULD NOT mess with Duncan. That guy’s HUGE

  156. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:00 pm

    The dugouts emptied twice?

    Awesome.

  157. David August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

    Anyone have a SopCast channel?

  158. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

    //sarcasm

  159. Jim Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

If Stairs gets into the game, he’s going to get drilled straight in the ass.

  160. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

Yeah…warnings blow. I was kinda hopin Rocket would come out with a hit on the 1st pitch. This will definitely carry over from tonight.

  161. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

God if there was ever a time I wanted Farnsworth to be in the game….

  162. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

Best revenge is a clutch base hit from Jorge.

  163. Pollyanna "Porkchop" Pough August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

and now the fist of clemens has unleashed the fury in a rod, in tony pena, in johnny damon, in mike mussina, in shelly duncan, in joe torre.

somewhere in boston, a newborn baby is crying not tears of life but tears of fear. the tremors in toronto carry shivers to boston. gwen stefani is cold.

the era of the fist is in full swing. beware.

    alex will say “ha!!!”

    clemens will bang his fist.

  164. Hello August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

    Darn sopcast..ugh

  165. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 8:01 pm

I love when the bullpens empty – with all of the guys running side by side in from the outfield.

  166. Ryan August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

And some people wanted Farnsworth gone….

  167. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    Posada “Take that Blue Jays!”

  168. Billy August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    Thanks Jorge.

  169. EY August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    HIP HIP JORGE!!!
That’s the right way to get back at bush league Blue Jays

  170. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    Nice!

  171. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

Shelley Duncan not only looks like Sloth (from The Goonies) but he protects the people he cares about.

    I heart Shelley Duncan.

  172. ae@dpu August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

How sweet would it have been for A-Rod to bulldoze Zaun?

  173. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    lucky lucky yankees

  174. Matthew August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

THATS HOW YOU ANSWER! goodbye Josh Towers.

  175. David August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    God I love Pollyana PorkChop

  176. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

Go Jorge! THAT’S how you answer their drilling of Alex!!

  177. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

JORGE!!!! Best retaliation is obliterating Towers.

  178. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

    That a way jorgie

  179. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

    1) Towers threw at ARods knee.
    2) ARod stares at Towers
    3) Towers yells at ARod to go to first and ARod yells back
    4) Benches clear. No punches thrown. Bullpens clear

Everyone cools off, then ARod and Towers start yelling again.

Duncan runs out to play peacemaker cuz it looks like Stairs is ready to rumble.

And now, we pay them back where it counts.

  180. corsari August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Atta boy! Posada makes him pay!

  181. Jay August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

take that blue jays, posada has arods back.

  182. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

    HE DID IT AGAIN!

  183. David August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

    SopCast working for anybody?

  184. EY August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Now I think about it, when the bench cleared, I immediately thought “Farnsie”

Maybe this was why Torre kept him around.

  185. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 8:03 pm

Can we please score 15 on these punks? Wow. I almost wish A-Rod intentionally went out of his way to run over the catcher.

  186. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Joba is gonna get work tonight, no question about it. I’m thinking Rocket nails one of them in the 5 or 6th.

    BJ

  187. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:04 pm

Andrea, you are so right about the Goonies! HA!

  188. KAJ August 7th, 2007 at 8:04 pm

That is twice they have thrown right at A-Rod…..Matt Stairs needs to pick up a bat, so he can feel a pitch in his frikkin ear !

  189. Billy August 7th, 2007 at 8:05 pm

If clubs are going to walk who ever is batting ahead of Phillips, maybe someone else should play 1B.

  190. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Reed Johnson does that all the time. He did it on a huge play that let Bernie drive in the tying and go ahead runs some time back. He always tries for these spectacular catches, and constantly turns singles into doubles and triples.

  191. Frank Discussion August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Jesus, could the Toronto announcers quit with the incessant whining ? Still beating the same old dead horse.

  192. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Khoa: I always thought he kinda looked like sloth. Good for him running out there and finding the guy with the most steam. Who knows what would have happened if Matt Stairs (who the heck is he anyway?) didn’t get held back by Shelley?

  193. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

i have not wanted the yankees to win an august game so badly in my life. yesterday was one thing, but today was just completely unnecessarily and weak. roger better make this lead stand up.

  194. LCâ„¢ August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

God, Shelly is awesome. He was SO fired up there. So glad they didn’t send him down.

  195. MiketheMike August 7th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

Wow, I always love fireworks in a baseball game, gets the juices flowing :)

  196. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Rocket definitely nails somebody before his night is up. no question about it

  197. Matthew August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

True Lori, I never understood the bullpens emptying running in.

  198. Billy August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

    5-1 Detroit leading Tampa Bay…

Gonna be tough to make up any ground…

  199. randy l August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

“I’m also a fan of advanced statistical analysis.”
isn’t “advanced statistical analysis” an oxymoron in baseball?
sorry just kidding ,after reading “half of what they do is attempt to measure a teams ability with luck taken out of the equation”, i couldn’t resist poking a little fun. are you sure it’s not 48.73645647% of what they do?

  200. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Billy: Chances are they weren’t walking Cano to get to Phillips. They were walking the left hander to get to the right hander.

  201. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

    A-ROD is that dude!

  202. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:08 pm

Yeah you’re right. Talk about a head full of steam. Boras just let out a big sigh of relief.

  203. LCâ„¢ August 7th, 2007 at 8:09 pm

    Frank Discussion,
    What are they saying?

  204. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 8:09 pm

Billy, it’s 1/2 game. You know how many days it takes to make up 0.5 games?

  205. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

I have my money on whoever is the third out in the 6th or 7th… Rocket will launch a splitter right into the guys back.

  206. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

The bullpens empty because they support their team. Usually a “brawl” is just people standing around. They need to stand around too otherwise the other team might have more people standing around.

  207. Frank August 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

I wish Shelley would have come out and tackled Matt Stairs that would have been great….

  208. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

Did the benches get warned? If so…as much as I might like to see Roger throw behind someone, having to miss a start because of it wouldn’t be cool.

I wish he wasn’t nibbling, also. Or, is he just getting squeezed? He’s not throwing a lot of strikes here, and he’s behind everyone.

  209. David August 7th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

Anyone got a working Sopcast channel?

  210. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:11 pm

I think we can forget making up any ground on the Tigers until the weekend… Tampa Bay is too much of a crappy team to let even a scuffling team lose.

  211. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 8:12 pm

last i checked, cleveland and boston also play tonight. detroit may win, but if cleveland loses and the yankees win (obviously, neither is a sure bet), the yankees are tied for the wild card lead.

  212. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Sunny, true unless they’re playing us. Whats up with that?? Same with Baltimore

  213. Paolo August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Yes!!! This is the way to get back at them – 40 pitches for 3IP…

  214. kasey August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

“Meanwhile, they will crush the Blue Jays. This is not a team you want to get angry, not with the likes of Josh Towers on the mound.”

hope you’re right. i’m going to be beyond bummed if they lose this game.

  215. Frank August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Does anyone know if the benches got warned…I did not see any indication of that by the umpires?

  216. ray (resident red sox troll, lol) August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

I will grant you this Pollyanna…..your posts are entertaining even if fictional!

  217. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Let’s not worry about what other teams are doing. There’s nothing anyone on the Yanks can do anyhow.

  218. LCâ„¢ August 7th, 2007 at 8:14 pm

And lol, who the hell is Matt Stairs? He actually plays ball? He looks older than Rocket, jeezuz.

  219. Ryan August 7th, 2007 at 8:14 pm

The Tigers are the better option to stick around with Cleveland having the better chance at folding.

  220. ray (resident red sox troll, lol) August 7th, 2007 at 8:14 pm

Just checking scores now, did a Yankee get hit earlier in the game?

  221. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:15 pm

“There’s nothing anyone on the Yanks can do anyhow.”

Well…except trade Farnsworth to the Indians or Tigers. That’d give us an instant leg-up on the wildcard:-)

  222. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:16 pm

There’s also a pretty good chance Boston takes another loss tonight. It’s Joe Saunders (5-9 3.10 ERA) versus everyone’s favor batting cage pitcher – Wake(MeUp)field (13-9 4.55 ERA).

  223. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 8:17 pm

LC, he looks like Bobblehead Youkilis with lighter hair.

  224. susan mullen August 7th, 2007 at 8:17 pm

We have a ways to go before the score is settled from what the Blue Jays did to Derek Jeter in 2003. Fringe player C Ken Huckaby from the Jays in full body armor ran from behind home plate all the way to 3rd base and slammed into an unarmed Derek Jeter, dislocating his shoulder and a legendary career. Jeter was out at least 6 weeks at the beginning of the season, the injury isn’t something that cures easily. The Blue Jay management left Jeter lying in a heap for awhile before getting him medical help.

  225. YanksFanLV August 7th, 2007 at 8:17 pm

I can’t wait to see highlights later.

  226. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

And all of sudden the Milkman has a legitimate shot at the cycle tonight.

    BJ

  227. LCâ„¢ August 7th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Lotta Yanks fans there. And Melky is fantastic.

  228. EY August 7th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

    Melky!

    4th outfielder who?
    Trade who for Gagne?

  229. Richard August 7th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

Duncan IMO looks like the bad guy (opposite Christopher Lambert) from the movie Highlander, Victor Kruger “The Kurgan”. The actor’s name is Clancy Brown.

  230. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

call me crazy but I think it’s time for melky to move to the top of the order and damon to the bottom.

  231. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

seems like melky is hitting just fine where he is.

  232. ray (resident red sox troll, lol) August 7th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

We will see Sunny, I believe Wakefield has won five out of his last six starts.

  233. Pollyanna "Porkchop" Pough August 7th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

a fire burns in toronto. slowly. quietly. invisibly.

deep inside the vicious hippopotomous, the deadliest of all animals known to man, is the image of the source of the fire. one man. the clemens that is roger.

it burns. those who offend it will burn. those for whom it burns will be warmed.

in faneuil hall an old man collapses. in the union oyster house a family is sickened by the vision they see in their bowls of clam chowder: the heat of clemens makes the cream curdle. the clams form into tiny fists. frankie valli licks his own knee-cap.

it has begun. it will continue. do not visit boston. a city of rags and fetid pwerbars will it become, home to folk groups and peruvians.

    alex will say “ha!!!”

    clemens will bang his fist.

  234. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:20 pm

It is baffling to me that Tim Wakefield has 13 wins.

  235. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:21 pm

Damon tho – is certainly doing a great job upping Toers’ pitch count

  236. Danny Baseball August 7th, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Even if Detroit wins the Yankees can make up a half game in the wild card race if Cleveland loses. They’d end up being tied for the lead.

  237. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 8:22 pm

jeez- how many balls are going to get hit to the wall? Why aren’t any of them going over???

  238. Andrea August 7th, 2007 at 8:23 pm

Derek Jeter has GOT to get looser pants. He’s not quite as bad as Farnsworth’s ballet pants, but it’s not good.

  239. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 8:23 pm

Right now, the most important thing is winning the game. Win the game, you win the series.

BUT, if this is 7 or 8-0 in the 7th, young Mr. Chamberlain has one job…..to take one of those 100 MPH fastballs and drill one of these guys from the ribs on up and we will see if this team wants to dance the rest of the way.

I suspect, once of their guys lands on the DL, this nonsense will end.

  240. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 8:24 pm

I hate how gameday makes anything that’s not a shallow fly ball look like a near home-run. At least, it does in the Jays park.

On a quasi-related note…it’d be cool if the players’ names on gameday actually tracked their movements in real life. It wouldn’t be too hard, as long as you had a fixed near-bird’s-eye-view camera. They’re pretty distinct from the background, it’d be easy to track them.

  241. Jim Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Posada is good, but he sure as hell isn’t fast.

  242. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Andy is regressing to the mean. Giambi had better get the glut of his playing time. Teach Betemit to play 1st. It isn’t that hard. He’s a middle infielder.

  243. Scott09 August 7th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

OK … who throws at a Jay? Which Jay will it be?
(hitting a seagull doesn’t count, Dave.)

  244. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

    woo-hoo – back on track

  245. Frank August 7th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

That slide by Shelley was great

  246. Peter Abraham August 7th, 2007 at 9:23 pm

Damn it. This is finally fixed. Sorry.

  247. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

man we have not been able to post for a while..

the DUncan slide was awesome.. the young guys are hungry..

Posada thinks he is Damon.. Stay at 1st man…

this game was a little intense early…

  248. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

All I know is, its GREAT to see this team play with a mix of passion and anger.

That slide by Duncan was OUTSTANDING!!!!

That’s the kind of baseball that has been missing here for the last few years.

As Pete said, nice to see the guys back up Arod.

Now, let’s finish this game and get our first look at Joba!!

  249. joe August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

    SJ44

I usually think you make a lot of sense, but not this time. You DO NOT ask a kid making his major league debut to go hit someone. You make it as easy as you can for the kid. Go out and throw strikes. If u want Clemens or Brower to do it fine, but not Chamberlain.

  250. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

well, thomas is batting third in the next inning – if Clemens gets through rios and wells, methinks Thomas is going to get himself plunked. He better have light feet in the batters box next inning… I bet the Jay’s will all be standing on their toes this inning in the box.

  251. Scott09 August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

    That answers the question.

  252. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

“Right now, the most important thing is winning the game. Win the game, you win the series.”

You got this one wrong my friend. Normally I would say you are right, but protecting not only our best player, but the best player in baseball is actually a little bit more important tonight. This has far more enduring consequences on the season than one contest. Retribution must be imminent, deliberate, and unquestioned. Throwing twice at AROD is completely intolerable and Clemens will and should settle this score tonight.

I wouldn’t wait for the chambermaid to get involved in the scuffle during his maiden voyage, although I’m sure stairs is wondering what a 102 mph fast ball in the knee might feel like.

    BJ

  253. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 9:24 pm

I guess Clemens figured he was done. No better time to throw at a guy.

  254. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Clemens did his damn job.. Moose would have never done it.. that is why teammates love Clemens..

    he is monster..

  255. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

HA! Stupid Blue Jays, don’t mess with the sleeping giant.

  256. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Andrea, do you know what TMI stands for? ref., Barishnakov!

What a great opportunity to get Joba in the game! Better yet – Rocket PLUNKS that SOB!!!!!!

    I LOVE BB Justice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  257. ... August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

This is why I love what Clemens brings to the table — I don’t care if he did it on purpose or not

  258. kidjock August 7th, 2007 at 9:25 pm

The Rocket is the man. Finally someone standing up for Yankee hitters!

  259. Keith FL August 7th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

Looks like the extremely short outing for Clemens last time has helped him…he looks awesome…almost reminds me of the ALCS vs. Seattle in 2000 when he had the 1 hitter….Sox fans are probably cringing at the way we are playing…..if the bullpen can straighten out we have a shot at winning it all…first time I have felt like that all year…feels good!!! This also reminds me of how the Sox got hot in 2004 after struggling, won the WC, and of course the WS…maybe we can do the same!!! Could this almost brawl and now Clemens hitting Rios(nice job Cemens!!!!) tonight be our Varitek-AROD moment???

  260. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

SJ44, I agree that Duncan slide was worth the price of admission. Gotta love the heart the Yankees are showing. Darn not Joba time yet.

  261. Global Warming- The Farns wants to Brawl! August 7th, 2007 at 9:26 pm

The Farns will pitch the 8th and Joba the 9th. I can’t wait!

Oh wait a second looks like Roger took care of business. Aw man the Farns could of won some fans over if he plunked a Blue Jay, then again he’d probably miss.

  262. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Glad Clemens hit Rios so that Joba doesn’t have to worry about doing it. Wonder if Roger will get a suspension?

  263. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

wow – torre gets ejected too – I guess he and he rocket are pretty tight after all

  264. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Damn right he did it on purpose and he should have.. the guy did it with a 2 hitter……

    that is called a teammate….

Fatboy lumberjack stairs did not seem to have any issue!!!!!!!!!!

The Yanks are playing with a lot of heart right now.

I wish Clemens would have done it with 2 outs in the inning….

  265. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

Roger took care of it, which is fine by me. Somebody had to get hit tonight.

Would have rather it had been with a 100 MPH fastball instead of a 90 MPH fastball but, what’s 10 MPH between friends. lol

  266. Scott09 August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

“or not” can be trimmed off that post.

  267. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

I hope he doesn’t get suspended.

  268. Frank August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

I think Angel Hernandez was afraid of Clemens

  269. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

That was dumb by roger. Sorry, but when you’re at 90 pitches through six and are CRUISING, you can give your team another inning. You want to hit a guy? Ok, get two outs and THEN hit a guy. Putting the leadoff guy on is dumb.

  270. Pollyanna "Porkchop" Pough August 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

2007 yankees: brotherhood of the fist

get pumped yankee fans. bang your fists.

  271. andrew 33 August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

i agree that shelley slide was terrific, great hustle

  272. Jamie August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

How many yankee pitchers would have did what Clemens just did?? That is what makes him special.

  273. anthony ca August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

Can someone describe the Duncan slide… I missed what happened.

  274. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

Obviously I’m glad they didn’t send the kid out there to get suspended. Looked like Clemens was saying that the umps didn’t make clear the warning for both benches. The whole beanball war stuff is so pointless; I don’t feel much better 2 hours after the first incident and I felt much better after Jorge’s 2-run double.

And LOL at the idiot Blue Jay fans cheering the guy who just shut their team down for 6 innings.

Here comes Hard-Hit Brower to end the shutout.

Hopefully Joba will get a full inning to himself.

  275. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

A-Rod-Varitek-Mueller did not ignite the Red Sox, contrary to common myth. They continued to play .500 baseball for some time after that.

Besides, Varitek fought like a girl, not taking his mask off. Don’t really want that kind of sissiness associated with the Yankees.

  276. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

    GW -

This is now declared a Farnsworth Free Blog. He does not exist on our roster. He does not exist on others’ rosters. He is sleeping with the fishes.

  277. Mike August 7th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

I miss Proctor, he would have thrown towards the head.

Very happy Clemens stood up for his teammates – very shocked Tallet didn’t get tossed for hitting Cano, though.

  278. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:29 pm

That depends – (I’m not watching the game) – did the umps issue warnings after the Towers’ plunking? If so, then Clemens could get a couple game suspension (along with Torre). When it starts – depends on when if Clemens appeals.

  279. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 9:29 pm

Rocket better not get suspended. He’s just protecting his players.

  280. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

“That is what makes him special.”

No, it makes him stupid. Putting the leadoff guy on when your pitch count is still low is dumb.

  281. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 9:30 pm

Any idea what Roger was saying to Angel? Ok, I know we all have an “idea,” but those actually watching Roger’s mouth, can you tell what was actually said? John and Suzyn keep saying how animated Roger was and how no one else said a word.

  282. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:31 pm

I doubt Rocket will get suspended. He put on a pretty good act with the ump. I say we bring in Krazy Kyle now and let him go nuts on them.

  283. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:31 pm

    well crap

  284. whozat August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

“did the umps issue warnings after the Towers’ plunking?”

If they did, then Tallet should have gotten tossed. It’s automatic after warnings.

See, now roger “protects his players” and the Jays wind up with two men on and no one out in the sixth. Roger could EASILY have gotten through this inning and put the team in a better position to win…which is what this is all about!

  285. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

    brower – No walks please!!!

    need a GIDP now.

  286. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

    God Brower’s awful isn’t he?

  287. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Jim Brower sucks. That’s why he was a minor league free agent. He doesn’t even have Edwar’s youth.

Did Chris Britton burn down somebody’s house or something?

  288. Mike August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

    Brower reminds me of Bruney.

  289. Frank August 7th, 2007 at 9:32 pm

i agree the umps did not make it clear that both benches had been warned…I do not think Clemens will get suspended…but I think Clemens should have at least got two outs and then hit someone….but at least he hit someone…becuase you know Wang was not going to hit anyone tomorrow.

  290. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

Brower ? What is the deal with this guy ? He seems like he should wear a generic uniform that just says “pitcher” on the back….

  291. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

God, if Shelley and Karstens are ever in the same HD frame, the TV might explode.

  292. Joe L August 7th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

I know I shouldn’t encourage him, but I can’t get enough of Pollyana Porkchop tonight.

    Brotherhood of the Fist indeed!

And Shelley’s slide better be on the highlight video for this season. I can’t wait to set that crazy nutter loose in Beantown.

  293. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

on one side of it – I wish rocket would have waited until there were at least two outs. But I’m not going to argue about him doing it.

On the other side, the reliever should do a better job than walking his first batter.

  294. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

whozat – can you count higher than fingers and toes?

How many pitches do you think were left in the rocket fuel? Rocket is a 6 inning pitcher and he believes in the integrity of the game – not the ump-ruled game (warnings and other BS) but the real game of broken bones and posing at the plate over a HR blast.

God Bless Roger and the Old School Justice without Ump BS

  295. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

my eyes decieve me – it’s tigers 6, tampy bay 6… is that right???

  296. Ron Benbow August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

Explain to me again, someone, what the Yankees see in Jim Brower.

  297. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

what is with the slide ? i missed it..

  298. Oscar Gamble August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

Brower has just committed the cardinal sin of walking the first guy he faced and it wasn’t close.

  299. grafxkid August 7th, 2007 at 9:34 pm

did Damon even see the ball?? crap!

  300. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

Alright! Let’s give this game away!

  301. anthony ca August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

what did shelley’s slide look like?

  302. Oscar Gamble August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

Brower is leaving tomorrow now for Britton.

  303. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

Wonderful. Seven run lead and Brower walks the first guy he faces. We got a lot of pitchers like that, don’t need another one.

Tops it off with a double and its close to becoming a new game.

Get him out and try somebody. Unfortunately, he flunked his test.

  304. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

nice – good job brower –

    DFA please.

  305. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    That was:

    A) Hit REALLY hard.

    B) An example of why Johnny Damon should be riding the bench.

  306. Mike NYY August 7th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

This game is getting fringteningly close

  307. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

How can Damon play well in center and be a nimbiclie in LF? Looks like Giambi is a better option!

  308. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

That was tough to call – Brower’s line drive % is 100. Keep it up, Generic One.

  309. Drew August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Detroit and D-Rays now tied at 6!!! Good job out of Clemens. Seems like BS that he gets tossed and our pitchers can’t retaliate after they throw behind A-Rod yesterday, hit A-Rod and Cano today. Doesn’t seem right. You would have thought the Jays would have let it go after yesterday.

  310. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

I suspect it will be Brower for Ramirez. According to Feinsand the Yanks want Edwar up by the weekend.

  311. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

Bruney got sent down because he walked too many batters right? So why is Brower here?

  312. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:36 pm

get him back to SWB so he can win his AAA closer of the year award….he suuuuuuuuuuucks

  313. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

Thats what I was thinking David. Personally, I’d rather have Bruney. Lesser of two evils in my opinion

  314. Brian C August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

As we said yesterday…this Brower is no good. He should be gone after tonight.

  315. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

whoa – an out. I’m stunned.

  316. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

Looks like we ignited the Blue Jays. Now they will win this game and make a charge for the division and playoffs.

  317. Miguel August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

I know why the Yankees kept Kyle around…because he’s good at fighting?

(Krazy as this sounds, that would get him on my side just a bit. not much though…)

  318. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:37 pm

    Brower throws like 120% sliders.

  319. Global Warming- The Farns wants to Brawl! August 7th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Brower has really hittable stuff. Ramirez and/or Britton can’t get here soon enough.

  320. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Well, the Brower experiment is a big failure. Man, 7 run lead and you still have to sweat 7th and 8th innings.

Staying too long with him. This can only be bad.

  321. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Leiter just called that slider Brower’s bread and butter pitch. That’s weak sauce. Lucky Glaus is lost at the plate.

  322. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Vizcaino warming up? What the….it is still 7 to 2. I hope he has his arm insured.

  323. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

    Mike-

Please take a big slug of your beverage of the evening.

I hope that “fringteningly close” was a joke. please confirm so that we don’t send the nice young men in little white suits to your home.

  324. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Viz??? Dude’s arms gonna fall off.

  325. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

    games so far of interest:

    Baltimore 3
    Seattle 2

    TBay 6
    Tigers 6

    Clev 2
    CHW 1

  326. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Viz is up ? Vizcaino must mean Proctor in spanish

  327. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Can someone fire Joe before he kills every arm in that bullpen? Vizcaino shouldn’t be avaliable.

  328. Brian C August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Gee, right now I wish Bruney was in there. Or even Myers. Oops

  329. Scott09 August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

This is all a ploy to give Joba a meaningful situation … let the Jays get within three … Vizcaino to finish the 7th … Joba for the hold … Mariano for the save.

Why else would Torre have this bum in the game?

  330. Ron Benbow August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Brower does have an impressive slider, I guess, but it’s nowhere near the strike zone. Major league hitters are going to lay off those pitches. Brower doesn’t impress as any more adept at throwing strikes consistently than any of their other middling relief pitchers.

  331. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:39 pm

Just once I’d like this pen to give me a scoreless game.

  332. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

I think I understand it – the Yankees just want us to appreciate Farnsworth that much more. Farnsworth usually gives us 3 outs.

Again, Edwar Ramirez is fabulous in outing #1 and sits the bench for two weeks. This guy gives up nothing but line drives and he’s workhorsing it. Where’s Karstens, Villone or (gulp) Farnsy? Ridiculous.

  333. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Miguel, thats hilarious. You know, you’re right. that would actually move him up a couple notches in my mind as well.

  334. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

So why is Viz warming up? Isn’t this why Joba is here??

  335. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Viz should not even up and throwing. This guy Brower sucks!

  336. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Let’s hope the damage is kept at 5 runs this inning.

  337. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

I’m praying to the god’s of GIDP

  338. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Hey, good for him. Props to Generic Jim. I’ll refrain from any further snarky comments as we’re still up 5.

  339. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

    Thank god for DP’s.

  340. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Warming Viz up is Donnie’s call, not Torre’s

  341. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Joba I think is coming in the 9th.

  342. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

at least Browers last pitch as a Yankee resulted in a GIDP

  343. gayle August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

    joba the 8th
    farnsy the 9th

  344. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:41 pm

Chris Britton could be the answer. The only answer that Brower will ever provide is as the AFLAC trivia answer for some monumental home run.

    Thanks, AAABrower.

  345. EL August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Didn’t Torre get tossed when Clemens got tossed?

  346. Kj August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

I agree with Al I think Brower has a good slider from the looks of it. His fastball is 93 but it doesnt seem to have much movement.

  347. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

    Lori,

Joba will only start an inning.

No matter what happens in this game the worst thing is that Viz was warming up. If we make the playoffs Joe will make sure our pen is hot for the important games.

  348. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

This has to be Brower’s last game. I may be a tough grader but, its August, you are in a fight for the playoffs, and they don’t need another guy who can’t throw the ball over the plate with a 7 run lead.

Its ok to give him a try but, when you flunk, you flunk.

Get rid of him, call up Ramirez and give him the next shot.

You had your shot Jim, you bombed. Want more of a shot, go to Tampa Bay and they will make you their closer.

  349. gayle August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

strike that meant to say if the score stays as is with a 5 run lead farnsy inthe 9th

  350. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Great, now I owe the god of GIDP’s a mozzerella ball.

  351. JRVJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Ok, Brower got out of it (though he surely is going to AAA tomorrow), so PLEASE, TORRE, SIT VIZCAINO DOWN AND DON’T LET THEM GET-UP AGAIN UNTIL FRIDAY!!! (Yes, I know getting them up and down is called a dry-hump, but darn it, it’s better that he have blue balls and two arms).

  352. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

Torre must be on someone elses payroll as flat out can’t coach his bullpen – he leaves this idiot Bowers in instead of bringing in Joba. Someone get rid of Torre NOW!!!

  353. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

Again, warming up the Viz was Donnie’s call. Not Torre’s. Torre got tossed.

  354. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 9:43 pm

I don’t even know why Brower was up..Edwar should be here.

  355. Tseng August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Haha, Khoa, I was looking at the comments and thinking “Wait, how can it still be torre’s fault… he’s not even in the game anymore…”

  356. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

wow- khoa is not onlu a blogger – he is also in the dugout to let us all in to who is making the call to Gator.

I am amazed that I have this insight to our inner working!

    WHAT BS!!!!!!

  357. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

    BX,

I am still laughing at that post!!!! Post of the night!!! lol

  358. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

JRVJ and mreed – Torre got tossed… Donnie is calling the shots now.

  359. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

    Joba for the 8th.

  360. Giuseppe Franco August 7th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

    Mariano, Call me….

  361. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

Um. no TK. it’s called TV.

  362. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

    devil rays. I’m speechless.

  363. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

Doesn’t Brower have to clear waivers in order to go back to AAA?

  364. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

    I didn’t know dickhead got thrown out that’s how much I hate’em.

  365. Chag August 7th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

This is crazy! There is no reason for Viz to be warming up, give Joba the opportunity to get his feet wet.

  366. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

Oh yeah, we still get to bat. I forgot about that.

Let’s give Joba that much more room, please.

  367. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:46 pm

dontfirecash, I um don’t think that will be a problem… do you?

  368. Keith FL August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Melky is the man…see you in CF for the next 12 years and a few WS trophies as well….he reminds me of a young Bernie….

  369. Mike NYY August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

I hope that “fringteningly close was a joke. please confirm so that we don’t send the nice young men in little white suits to your home.

You mean a 7-2 lead isn’t a reason to panic and call for the firing of everyone in the organization and releasing everybody on the roster? :)

  370. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Torre’s methodology has rubbedoff well – Hitman should no better!!

  371. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

I’m sure Torre is calling the shots from the clubhouse. That’s what batboys are for.

  372. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

    SJ -

Right again – Brower is only a miniscule bandaid, disposable soon (like FARNSY)

  373. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

    Just Torre!!

  374. Mike R. August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

Melky is playing out of his mind!!!!!! That’s for all those so-called reporters (John Heyman) and “analysts” (Steve Phillips) who said the Yanks should have traded Melky for Gagne, because he was a “Fourth outfielder at best”.

  375. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:47 pm

I know I usually play the optimist here, but Brower wasn’t that awful. I don’t think it’s fair to eliminate him from the mix just yet. He might come in handy down the stretch.

  376. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:48 pm

    SJ,

I agree, to a point. I think you give the pitchers with talent a chance. If Joba bombs, he gets a few more looks. Same for Edwar. But Brower is a retread without dynamic stuff, so he must be sent down or dfa’d.

  377. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 9:48 pm

Joba is well set for the eight inning.
Team is leading by a good margin.
The lower part of Blue jay batting order is up in the inning.

  378. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 9:48 pm

    Sunny,
Shouldn’t be a problem, but it makes the callup of Brower even more puzzling. Unless the Yanks thought he was going to be here for awhile(which I guess they did), they should have just called up Edwar who has options.

  379. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

    Whose panicking?

  380. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:49 pm

Joba’s already ready with no one out, it might be awhile.

  381. JRVJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Folks, come on, you’ve never heard of cellphones and such?

No way do I think that Torre headed out the Hard Rock Café up there for a Hurricane and is not in contact with Mattingly and Guidry.

BTW – Men on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, good chance of at least 1 run coming in, I’d say it’s even more of a reason to sit Vizcaino down.

  382. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Peace and Love Mike NYY :)

  383. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

Unfortunately, Indians, Tigers, Mariners will all win.
    Angels you’re our last hope.

  384. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

    dontfirecash

I think brower had better stats for a longer time in AAA and had shown durability for playing in multiple games in a row – which was a need up here all season long. But I don’t think it was either/or – Edwar is coming whether browers here or not. From what I’ve read – Torre like the fact that Brower can pitch three days in a row… unfortunately, he didn’t use the word *effectively* in there.

  385. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

The fact that Viz was even warming is ridiculous. He pitched last Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and two innings on Monday.

  386. Mike NYY August 7th, 2007 at 9:51 pm

    Lol nice :D

  387. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

Viz was just up because they wanted to save Joba to start an inning not come in with men on base. Joba is coming in after 2 more Yankee outs. The show starts soon. The future is now.

  388. Paolo August 7th, 2007 at 9:52 pm

    Bobby!!!

  389. TKinDC August 7th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

SuhWeet – Let’s get Joba in there!

  390. Mike NYY August 7th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Prediction: Chamberlain allows the bases to get loaded with no outs but then bears down and K’s the side :D

  391. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Actually, I’m cool eith that- I’m more concerned with the Yankees and as long as they keep play solid baseball, the playoffs will come. Everyone starts 0-0 then so I honestly don’t care if it’s thru the WC or Division. (Altho – i’d definitely like the Division Champs thing *much* better).

  392. gayle August 7th, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Hello for those calling for Joba in the 7th. They are not bringing him in the middel of an inning that h as been said that is the deal for now so he was never coming in at least this game until the start of an inning

  393. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:54 pm

These scores lately have been incredible. Remember all that talk during the spring about the possibility of 1000 runs? Wished we had swung like this during the first half. Simply amazing.

  394. Giuseppe Franco August 7th, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Joe Torre, call me….I dont know anything about the company, but I can tell you my product works, it works.

  395. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Hmm…Alex seems to be struggling lately, but it’s hard to notice when everyone else is bombing the ball.

  396. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Now that we have seven run lead, brace for Kyle in the ninth inning unless Joba gives up a few runs in the eighth.

  397. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

is arod’s quest for 501 a big deal or something? Did I miss the memo?

  398. Mike NYY August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

    Yeah, I agree Gayle

  399. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Toronto should be ashamed of way they treated A-Rod tonight. who’s their Mayor? I’ll write him.

  400. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm

Abreu has been padding the stats lately. Earlier in the season no one would of thought that Bobby would get 100 RBIs, now it seems like he’s going to be well over it.

285 BA 11 HR and 74 RBI as of tonight.

  401. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

How about getting Villone in when Brower started getting in trouble. There are other pitchers in the pen besides Joba and Villone has shown he is capable if not spectacular.

  402. Jamie August 7th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

this may have allready been mentioned but has anyone noticed that Cano has walked 3 times, plus a HBP….he is learning.

  403. River Ave Report August 7th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

The Joba Chamberlain Era has begun

  404. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

Toronto treats him just fine Chris if you know what i mean. ;-)

  405. PAT M..... August 7th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

    Chamberlain, you’re in……

  406. David August 7th, 2007 at 9:57 pm

    It’s Joba time

  407. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 9:58 pm

Welcome to the show, Joba – I expect nothing less than 4 strikeouts on 12 pitches, with one passed ball (because no scorer would give a wild pitch to Joba).

  408. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 9:58 pm

This looks like a job for Joba!

  409. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 9:58 pm

You guys have to excuse me as I just needed to vent my frustration. Since Stottlemeyer and Zimmerman’s departure our bullpen has been terribly mismanaged and Cash and Levine have almost complete left the pattern unchecked, I just can’t understand it. I know it’s his first year but Gator needs to speak out on this mismanagment if were to be effective in the race because if I could I would.

  410. BBFan August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Poor Joe, he can not watch Joba pitch in person.

  411. Gary Busey August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

    Hey Giuseppe,

Thanks again for the 14 mystery hair plugs you gave me! It helped me land a spot on Entourage.

    Yea….the product works…just like….Giuseppe says…

    ….yea…

Hey, anyone have an opening in a film or something this year? I’m pretty free.

    Thanks for the hair,

    Gary

  412. anthony ca August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Joba’s picture on Gameday is awesome

  413. Lori August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

    Ok – let’s see the future . . .

  414. Alex August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Here’s a good one. Peter “I don’t really understand baseball, but i disguise it by saying how good everyone will be as well as being a nice guy” Gammons said that Caca Crisp is the best defensive centerfielder in baseball. Right, and Manny Ramirez has “learned” to play the position.

  415. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

    Keith FL….

I completely agree, if Melky was a stock I would loan Steinbrenner the money to resign A-Rod.

People were high that wanted him traded for Mike Gonzalez and his barely connected elbow

  416. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 9:59 pm

Joe should get a bobby valentine disguise so he can watch from the tunnel.

  417. Mike R. August 7th, 2007 at 10:00 pm

With a five run lea you have to let Brower work his way out of the jam. There is no reason to bring someone else into that inning unless Zaun got a hit.

  418. C3PO August 7th, 2007 at 10:00 pm

The illustrious Joba hopes you will die…honorably….

  419. Top Cat August 7th, 2007 at 10:00 pm

Torre getting tossed: when both teams are “warned” the manager is automatically ejected when the next batter is hit.

I have to say, Torre didn’t put up much of a fight.

  420. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 10:01 pm

Kids that go through college first are so always so much more composed when speaking to the reporters. Wished I could say the same for my man Vince Young though.

  421. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 10:01 pm

I like that poster name, DONTFIRECASH as I agree wholeheartidly!!

  422. Khoa August 7th, 2007 at 10:01 pm

C3PO, a Joba/Star Wars promotion sometime down the road at the Stadium would be HILARIOUS.

  423. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

JOBA HAS THROWN 3 BALLS, SEND HIM BACK TO AAA. Sorry just wanted to beat the negative nancy’s to post that.

  424. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

ahhh Sterling is not giving radio listeners enough info…I want him to say what pitch and the speed, unfortunately I doubt john would do that.

A little nerves for the kid but he should be ok

  426. Ron August 7th, 2007 at 10:02 pm

  442. Mike R. August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

  443. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

alright, Sterling finally realized Joba throws hard and he is giving pitch speeds.

  444. anthony ca August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

  445. Jeff NJ August 7th, 2007 at 10:05 pm

  467. CA Yanks Fan August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 pm

Not bad, got the job done. Good debut for Joba. Did not freeze up with men on base.

  468. kidjock August 7th, 2007 at 10:09 pm

Not bad, he can’t keep leaving his fastball over the plate. He should work down in the zone more too, but nasty nasty stuff.

  469. Chris from MI August 7th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

But he’s on pace to 16,000,000 walks and hits as well.

  470. mel August 7th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

Not bad. He was better than both of Gagne’s appearances with Boston.

    let him pitch the 9th

  473. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 10:10 pm

  479. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 10:11 pm

Threw strikes, one semi-kinda-hard hit ball, a strikeout and a walk. For a 20-year-old’s debut, not too shabby. Hell, if Farnsworth did that I’d be making a shrine.

  480. Mike R. August 7th, 2007 at 10:11 pm

    Hook’em horns!!!!!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

  481. Bib Fortuna August 7th, 2007 at 10:12 pm

    OK…Papelbon he’s not…at least not yet.

But not a bad debut. Just out of curiosity, anyone know how Papelbon did on his first attempt as a closer? I remember full well Rivera’s conversion from starter to bullpen arm in 95. Just looking from the standpoint of mre recent history.

  482. SJ44 August 7th, 2007 at 10:12 pm

He works down in the zone. That’s his strength.

First ML outing, he was fine.

Luis Vizcaino’s arm thanks the Yankees for calling up Joba Chamberlain.

  483. BX 12 Fordham Road August 7th, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Sunny…they made it about the Yanks but the book was about the whole city, Yanks, blackout and looting, Son of Sam, me in summer school for geometry, etc…

  484. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

He looked real good… Bruney has 1 pitch a fastball… his breaking ball stinks..

    Joba looked real good…….

  485. Jim Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Sunny, The Bronx Is Burning isn’t ABOUT the Yankees. It’s about the happenings of New York City in 1977, of which the Yankees are the main focus. The Son of Sam killings, the majoral race, the unemployment, the black out, the riots, etc… they were all a part of that year in NYC.

  486. Alex August 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Although it looked “good,” he is NOT going to be a savior. There were at least 3 or 4 fastballs that he missed by a severe amount, including the one to Rios, and the one that Wells popped out to left. That explains why he looked a bit unhappy upon leaving the mound. He’ll do pretty well because he throws so hard, but don’t expect him to be as good as Zumaya was last year. He’ll put up somewhere around a 3.3 era, and probably be a good 7th inning guy. I’d still rather have Vizcaino in the 8th. Down the line, he’ll be ridiculously good, but right now there are a few chinks in the armor.

  487. Jamie CT August 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Sunny – the book that the mini series is based on concentrates more on the Son of Sam and the blackout than the Yankees believe it or not. The book is a great read (a thousand times better than the mini series even though it is rather good), and I recommend it to anyone who not only is a Yankee fan but a history fan of New York City.

  488. Kill Schill-(ing) August 7th, 2007 at 10:13 pm

Hardly a flawless performance but an auspicious debut, nonetheless for The Kid. I guess it doesn’t hurt to pitch him another inning. They won’t pitch him tomorrow regardless and the Yankees are off on Thursday.

Al – this just in “Dawgy” is a hater who still doesn’t realize we are going to make the playoffs.

    He has Daddy issues!

BTW – For those clowns to tell the guy who caught the 500 HR ball to give it back for free after they talk about their vacations in Nantucket and the Hamptons is the most BS display I have ever seen.

The poor schmuck has a lottery ticket that won, let him cash it in.

For millionaires to lecture an ordinary guy to give the ball to a mega-millionaire is just the worst display of detachment I have ever seen.

    /end of sermon!

  496. Kevin August 7th, 2007 at 10:15 pm

  497. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 10:15 pm

See how things work – Torre gets ejected so that the frontoffice can really see what his management influence has had on Donny so then this kid (praise be to Cash) comes in ironically to clean up Joe’s poor management

  501. Adam August 7th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Dude, it’s his first appearance. Missing with his fastball isn’t the issue, the issue was getting him through his first inning alive. And he made it…and looked great.

    Joba will be fine.

  502. mel August 7th, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Yankees are showing mercy here, they’re not pinch running for Jason.

  503. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

With Joba not available tomorrow and Thursday an off day, it makes sense to let him go 2 innings tonight.

  504. sunny615 August 7th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

ah- thanks guys – I think I’ll go for the read instad of watching the show.

  505. Oscar Gamble August 7th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Don’t know who’s gun says 99, but MLB.tv had him at 96 just about every fastball and 87 on the slider. Great location despite the walk. The first pitch was a strike and he didn’t get the call. It looks like Joba can put it wherever he wants. Hitting corners. Then he through one right over the middle and the hitter couldn’t come near it. My only concern is it doesn’t like like the fastball had any movement. Fast yes, but straight. He has a great fluid easy motion. Not as easy as MO, but easy. Good for the shoulder and elbow. The slider had decent movement for a pitch that fast at 87, but it stayed up every time he through it. The bottom line is that nerves in a first appearance will suck the movement out of a fastball and will keep your slider up. I would expect the slider drops down a bit next inning. Hopefully next appearance we see some movement on the fastball. By no means am I criticizing Joba. What I’ve seen is great and I expect it to get better still.
The beautiful thing is the control he has shown already. I’ll take 1 of him over 3 of the retreads that we have been calling on.

  506. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Seems to me it’s hard to criticize a guy who just tossed a scoreless inning and started this year in A-ball. Just my opinion…

  507. Thrillington August 7th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

I watch the “Bronx is Burning” and while it’s mediocre at best, I enjoy Turturro’s performance (the ears are ridiculous though).

For a good movie on this period, see Spike Lee’s “Summer of Sam.” The series feels like a really bad ripoff of that film.

  508. tonyb August 7th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

    Sunny615,

The bronx is burning is not just about the Yankees – it is a chronicle of the major events in the Bronx in 1977. The NYC mayoral election, the economic situation, son of sam and the blackout are all also featured. The book that the mini series is based on is a fun read.

  509. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 10:18 pm

Joba’s fastball generally has late life, I am listening and the idiot in the booth isn’t telling me much.

  510. mreed August 7th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

  511. Stuart August 7th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

alex if you are saying that about Joba with a straight face you are a friggin moron..

    really are you a clown…

  512. Top Cat August 7th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

once the benches are warned, the manager is “automatically” ejected – strict liability- once the next batter is hit.

    BX….lol

Giambi does look like he lost some weight. Actually looks fit.

I love how somebody can tell in 20 pitches that the kid isn’t a “savior”.

Newsflash…..nobody is asking him to be a savior.

All I know is, he faced two all star hitters (Rios and Wells) and neither guy could center his fastball.

The Yankees don’t have ANYBODY besides Mo in the bullpen who can do that.

Anybody who thinks this kid isn’t good, knows nothing about baseball.

  516. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:19 pm

i wanted to pass on something to my other blog readers…

my father passed away today at 57 years old. he always used to tell me stories of when he was in the electricians union on how he got to work on the stadium renovations and how much he enjoyed it.

when i got home from all the madness that was today all i wanted to do was sit with my wife, pug and watch the yankees win. thank you roger, thank you joba and thank you boys. you made me feel better. you made me put aside all the anger i have felt today.

thank you peter for giving me this place to put this. maybe some how, when you talk to joba… you can tell him one day that a guy who grew up with a single parent who had 2 strokes and raised two great sons watched him on the day he pitched his first major league game just 3 weeks after seeing him in AA ball and felt nothing but relief that something good make me feel better.

thank you to the new york yankees for giving me the passion i have for this team and allowing me to escape just a bit.

A-Rod did not sign for a nickel less than he could get (and will do that again this year) and yet this guy is supposed to give the ball to him because it is thre right thing.

I tell you what, I would hang onto the ball until A-rod was found living under the FDR in a large appliance box and THEN I would give him to ball back to help him get on his feet….

    Stuart,

How am I a clown? You’re the one who isn’t really backing up what you’re saying. All I said was that several fastballs drifted over the middle of the plate in that inning. If you don’t think that’ll get hit hard by the Tigers, Red Sox, Indians, etc, you’re in denial. If you think I made it up, watch Posada’s target, and where the pitch went.
Al Leiter just said he has some “erratic control,” although nothing to be concerned about, pretty much what I was referring to. Is Al Leiter a clown too?

  532. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:23 pm

  558. Frank Discussion August 7th, 2007 at 10:29 pm

Joba looked impressive enough to me, I saw one pitch clocked at 99 mph. His father must be proud.

Kudos to Clemens for a well pitched game and for getting a little payback. I think we all knew it was coming.

Watching this game on Extra Innings you get a grasp on just how whiny and repetitive the Blue Jays announcers are, it grows rather mind numbing. The endless harping on the Arod incident and the cheap shot about Alex’s legs being sore after getting hit. Pathetic, just like Toronto.

If Roger gets suspended it would probably be for 5 games to at least cause him to have a start pushed back. Karstens would probably get the spot start or we could see Igawa again if it gets to September with appeals.

I’d love a spot start from Joba but doubt we’d see it.

  574. Joe L August 7th, 2007 at 10:35 pm

I’m sorry, but someone in the Yankee organization has to do something about Michael Kay.

He picked John McDonald for the play of the game? We win 9-2, Shelley Duncan makes one of the best slides I’ve seen to break up a play at 2b and he picks McDonald?

I know Kay’s a fraud and he’s gunning for a Fox Baseball/Espn baseball national gig which is why he’s being “impartial” and getting excited when the other team makes a play or hits a HR, but this has to stop. If George had his wits about him and heard Kay’s antics, Kay would be banned from the stadium.

Stop working on your reel Michael Kay. Fox and Espn already know who you are. You work for one of them on the radio.

  575. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 10:35 pm

    Chicago Dave,

The sad thing is I could see Igawa getting a start or two in September if it came to that.

  576. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 10:36 pm

How about IPK making a start if roger gets suspended?

  577. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:37 pm

Joe L – According to that recent Conde Nast article, Steinbrenner no longer has his wits about him… so Kay’s job is probably safe for now!

  578. Deep to Left August 7th, 2007 at 10:39 pm

  579. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:39 pm

YankeeJosh – Do you mean if the Yanks are out of the race (which I don’t see happening) in September then they would bring up Igawa to start a few games? I honestly can’t see them bringing him back while they’re in the thick of the wild card race… At least, I hope not!

  580. Fear Factor August 7th, 2007 at 10:41 pm

I am going to lodge a protest about Josh Towers’ game tonight.

  581. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 10:42 pm

All I have to say is watching guys like Josh Towers should make us all feel a whole lot better about our starting five!!!

  582. Ron H August 7th, 2007 at 10:43 pm

Win or lose this year these are exciting times to be a Yanks fan, reminder of the mid to late 90s. Wang, Cano, Cabrera, Hughes, Chamberlain and there’s more waiting in the system!!!!

  583. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

No, I was thinking in terms of maybe a late season doubleheader. Hopefully it will be after they clinch. I just can’t help worrying that with the money invested in him he’ll somewhere get another chance.

If the Yanks don’t want to burn a bullpen arm, and Clemens appeals his suspension until after 9/1, I could see Yankees brass giving Igawa a start.

    But I really hope not.

  584. Rocco August 7th, 2007 at 10:45 pm

  591. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 10:51 pm

    Chicago Dave,

I’d live with Igawa pitching the regular season finale after the Yankees have come back and passed the Red Sox and clinched the division. Short of that, I do not want to see him again this season either.

  592. BryanK August 7th, 2007 at 10:54 pm

If Clemens got suspended, would Joba have a chance to spot start or due to innings maximums is he strictly in relief this year?

  593. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 10:55 pm

The Yanks should make the following bullpen moves

Brower down to Scranton after he clears waivers, Edwar up
Farns clears waivers and the Yanks trade him to anyone for a low level prospect and pay 5mil of the remaining 7mil on his contract…Britton up
If Karstens sucks…send him to Scranton and call up Ohlendorf.

  594. Batty August 7th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

Does anyone know why Tallet was not ejected after hitting Cano with a pitch?

I was wondering the same thing – I thought both teams were warned.

  595. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

“This has to be Brower’s last game. I may be a tough grader but, its August, you are in a fight for the playoffs, and they don’t need another guy who can’t throw the ball over the plate with a 7 run lead.”

You are a tough grader. You cant manage teams like that, even in middle of a playoff race. Did you forget so soon what he yesterday?

It makes no sense to endlessly rotate guys in and out of the minors/majors. You need to give guys a chance to pitch to find gold. Brower has been terrific for scranton, and will be given a full and comprehensive look. He deserves it too. With Chambermaid here, he can take some of farnsworthless time.

It doesn’t help the yanks to react hysterically to one mediocre outing.

Farns clears waivers and the Yanks trade him to anyone for a low level prospect and pay 5mil of the remaining 7mil on his contract…Britton up
If Karstens sucks…send him to Scranton and call up Ohlendorf.”

The hysterics perpetuated on this board are becoming a bit much. Again, upgrading our bullpen is important, but frantically shifting guys up and down based on one mediocre inning borders on fringe reaction.

Brower will be here for a full and comprehensive look barring some kind of unforeseen meltdown.

    BJ

  598. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:00 pm

BryanK – Regardless of what happens to Clemens, the Yanks need Joba too badly in the pen to let him start a game. After all, if he starts they’ll lose him for 4-5 days. So, I don’t think they’d let him spot start…

  599. NJ August 7th, 2007 at 11:00 pm

Joba is going to be really, really good.

Did anyone else notice he throws his curve faster than Mussina’s fastball lol

  600. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:00 pm

    BJ,
IMO Brower looked mediocre yesterday too. He was lucky the line drive was hit right at A-Rod or he would have been in a lot of trouble. It seems like everyone was hitting the ball hard today. I would rather see Britton or Edwar but I would suspect that Brower isn’t going anywhere. The Yanks probably don’t want to send him down because there is the possiblility that he could be claimed by another team.

  601. Global Warming August 7th, 2007 at 11:00 pm

Another brilliant episode by ESPN’s Bronx is Burning. About the only thing they do right ;)

  602. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:01 pm

Subway Heroes – Actually, I think that’s a great idea! Joe should sit A-Rod and play Betemit tomorrow, absolutely.

  603. Matthew August 7th, 2007 at 11:01 pm

Well he missed badly with a few fastballs. I’m as excited as everyone else but will be interesting next time out. If Wells is going well he hits a 3 run homer on that pitch. He has had an off year.

  604. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:03 pm

Matthew – And Vernon just signed that huge contract in the offseason…Figures, doesn’t it?!

  605. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:03 pm

    BJ,
Don’t know how you can argue with the logic of trading Farns(which I’m sure is exactly what Cash is trying to do) or sending down Karstens if he continues to struggle. The Yanks gotta ride the hot hand here and it could be that Ohlendorf/Ramirez/Britton is a better combination than Brower/Farns/Karstens.

  606. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:05 pm

dontfirecash – I doubt the Yanks could sneak Farnsworth through waivers.

  607. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:06 pm

    Chicago Dave,
Nobody in their right mind would claim Farns. He is owed 7mil for this season and next…he would have no trouble getting through waivers IMO

  608. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 11:07 pm

    Dontfire,

I’m all for moving Fworth, he has failed miserably for years. My objection is moving guys who have been here for a day based on one mediocre inning, and one good one. That reaction is extreme.

Baseball is a game of equanimity and poise, not hysterical reaction to one bad outing. Brower has been terrific this year, and I want to see some more of him before giving up on someone who might prove effective in favor of yet another virgin arm.

    BJ

  609. Viper August 7th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

    Sure they can, Dave.

In fact, I have little doubt they will get him through waivers.

His contract is too high and nobody will likely claim him.

Hey, Boston was able to sneak Manny Ramirez through waivers a couple of years ago so anything is possible.

  610. Mike August 7th, 2007 at 11:08 pm

    Saw Duncan’s slide on SportsCenter.

    Great stuff.

  611. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:09 pm

    BJ,
Point taken..Anyways its probably a moot point as I doubt the Yanks called up Brower only to expose him to waivers a few days later.

  612. CaptainsCorner August 7th, 2007 at 11:12 pm

I dont understand why Towers wasnt thrown out of the game for hitting Arod??!!! It was quite obvious that they threw at him yesterday and the Yanks let it go and then he did it again today. The commissioners office told them not to start anything otherwise there would be suspensions. But the umpire doesnt do anything? It made absolutely no sense that they are allowed to do it twice, especially 2 barely major league pitchers. I am glad Clemens hit Rios it had to be done, I just wish he waited until there was 2 outs. I guess when you are a .500 team every year that was the only thing for them to look forward to.

  613. Big Johnson August 7th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

I should add that I agree guys like KRAM should be up here too, but I don’t want to see him moved out after one bad outing again. He deserves a fair and balanced tryout, and it does little to a pitcher’s confidence to ship him after one sketchy inning.

Chambermaid was impressive tonight, but he also got into a little bit of hot water. Should we send him down too? These guys have all been terrific in the minors this year, and if we are going to reinvent the pen with the best of scranton, we need to give them more than a game or two tryout. We have suffered insufferably with FWorth for years, why cant Brower get another day or two?

    BJ

  614. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

dontfire and Viper – Oh yes, I forgot about that ridiculous salary the Yanks are wasting on him…My bad! You’re right…Who in their right mind would pay that much for a buster like Farnsy? Of course, that then begs the question…Who would trade for him with that salary he carries? When the Yanks turned down Atlanta’s offer at the deadline, I think they showed they’re not keen on paying too much of his salary in any deal.

  615. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 11:14 pm

    BJ,

The difference is that Brower is over 30, and has had chances in the Majors with no success. I’m no expert but he doesn’t exactly seem to have any great pitches. I am still more intrigued by Edwar who got only 3 appearances and has a great change.

Brower has had two bad outings now. True he got out of the 6th yesterday but he failed in the 7th and forced Joe to use Vizcaino for two innings. That is not good for a reliever.

  616. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

    Chicago Dave,
I think the Yanks turned down Atlanta’s offer because they would have had to pay Farns’s full salary AND pay Bob Wickman. If the Yanks offer to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 to 5 million of the remaining 7mil on Kyle’s contract, a deal should happen.

  617. Dr. Acula August 7th, 2007 at 11:15 pm

WOOOOO HOOO, AIN’T WE A BUNCH OF SEXY DEVILS!!!!

  618. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:16 pm

My feeling is that Brower is on a pretty short leash. If he doesn’t improve in his next few outings, I think he’s on the bus back to SWB. Still, he does deserve a few more opportunities to show his stuff before they get rid of him…

  619. Bob from NJ August 7th, 2007 at 11:18 pm

Great slide by Duncan, Giambi looked fit, Melky continues to rake, Joba’s slider was untouchable, his fast ball reached 99 on the YES gun, Jeter broke out of his slump, Rocket rebounded with authority, Posada snapped out of it…

Did I miss anything? Awesome game.

  620. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:18 pm

dontfire – That’s still a pretty chunk of change to pay to get rid of Farnsworth, although I think the Yanks are getting to the point where they would certainly consider doing it if they could get a warm body in return!

  621. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:19 pm

Brower must clear waivers in order to go back to SWB..I would guess the Yankees do not want to expose Brower to waivers because numerous teams are desperate for bullpen help…Therefore, I would guess he sticks around, at least for a little whle.

  622. Chicago Dave August 7th, 2007 at 11:20 pm

I know everyone here hates ESPN…but Sportscenter (on right now) is going to be doing a little piece on the day Thurman Munson died (not sure when, but it’s coming up!). Just in case anyone wants to tune in and see it!

I would rather have seen Edwar too, but remember he is a failed major leaguer too. He reinvented himself with a sick sick pitch. I don’t think he got a fair shot the first time.

I haven’t scouted Brower extensively, but from what I am reading, they are saying he has reinvented himself on the mound. If true, it would be unfair to judge him purely based on past failure, and completely negating what he has done over the season in Scranton.

I realize the minors are just that. But they have to count for something, otherwise guys would never get promoted. Give Brower a couple of more outings, and if he fails after a fair and complete tryout, move on.

  632. dontfirecash August 7th, 2007 at 11:25 pm

    BJ,
I now agree with you 100% and retract my statements regarding getting rid of Brower. As I’ve stated numerous times tonight it makes no sense to expose a guy you just called up to waivers. He makes very little money and would almost certainly be claimed(tampa bay anyone?). Therefore, until we see him a few more times he should remain with the team.

  633. Frank Discussion August 7th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

Is anyone else as sick of Matt Stairs as I am ? He looks like he should be working at a gas station on the NJ Turnpike. Sit down and shut up, and watch your team lose yet again. Your juvenile posturing and schoolyard antics don’t appear the least bit threatening.

    Toronto’s version of Nelson Muntz…

  634. Dr. Acula August 7th, 2007 at 11:29 pm

Tower should have been immediately ejected. And if not after the cheap shot, certainly after he talking Shite to ARod.

  636. YankeeJosh August 7th, 2007 at 11:32 pm

    BJ,

I hear what you’re saying. I just don’t see room on the staff for both Brower and Edwar. Mo and Vizcaino are obviously here. Villone is your lefty. We’re stuck with Farnsworth. Joba is obviously here for the long haul. Karstens is needed as a long man. That leaves one spot open, and based on what I’ve seen, that spot should go to Edwar, not Brower.

  637. Boom Goes The Dynamite August 7th, 2007 at 11:32 pm

    Frank -

I agree on Matt Stairs…the guys a jerk. Seems like a frustrated bully. Good thing ole Shelly Duncan made a B-line for him to keep him under control…

  638. Dr. Acula August 7th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

    Matt Stairs has ‘roid issues.

‘roids and speed are notorious for triggering pre-mature aging.

  639. Howie August 7th, 2007 at 11:33 pm

I love Raaja. Bowa rocks, too.

HaHa. Angels broadcaster said, “I’ve been hit by a Wakefield pitch. Feels like a mosquitoe bite.”

Wakefield: another veteran pitcher who doesn’t know how to pitch with a lead. Chased in the 5th, no outs.

  643. Viper August 7th, 2007 at 11:44 pm

If Rocket gets suspended, it won’t do have much affect because he’ll just have 5 days between starts instead of 4 days.

    Here’s what will happen:

Rocket will receive his 5-games from the commissioner’s office

    Rocket will then appeal

Rocket will then start another game

Rocket will withdraw appeal after start and serve his 5 games

He’s not going to miss a start – he’ll just have his start pushed back a day.

If there is an off-day squeezed in there somewhere, the rotation won’t skip a beat and there will be no need for a spot start by Karstens or Igawa.

  644. Rocco August 7th, 2007 at 11:47 pm

uh if they have an off day, it doesnt count as a suspended game… good try though

Tavarez in for the Red Scum. Doubles in first pitch. Can we say 5 back?

  649. susan mullen August 8th, 2007 at 12:15 am

Joe L, re Michael Kay, I noticed what you said and you could be right on all points–it does help your reel if you downplay Yankee positives. However, if you’re right, we’re in even worse trouble than I thought. I’ve looked into the YES Network quite a bit, documented quite a bit, and long ago found it impossible to watch, in fact an outrage. YES Network likes to point out certain benefits of other teams, so they’re quite capable of being the catalyst for Kay’s remarks. I hope you’ll write letters to anyone and everyone as I have.

  650. Mehdi August 8th, 2007 at 12:17 am

Either Tavarez is really really bad or the Angel hitters are that good. Probably both.
