Tuning in to the terror squad

Received this press release from YES today:

The YES Network is enjoying its highest New York Yankees ratings ever, with its primetime Yankees telecasts ranking No. 1 in New York on 27 of the past 29 game nights. YES’ primetime telecasts have regularly outperformed ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and all other New York broadcast and cable stations this summer.

Tuesday’s Yankees-Blue Jays telecast on YES registered a 7.4 TV household rating (715,000 viewers), the highest-rated and most-watched program on YES since September 29, 2005, when the Yankees-Orioles telecast scored a 7.6 TV household rating (731,000 viewers).

This suggests two things to me: People really like how this team is playing and there’s not much on in the summer.

    we LOVE the Yankees !

  2. Jim Johnson

    That is awesome.

    Sell high!

Last night’s high TV rating can be attributed to three things:

1.) The early high tension kept everyone watching until late innings.

2.) The launch of Joba’s NYY career. (this may only be attached to the serious and knowledgable fan, but nonetheless, it was a factor).

3.) Nothing else on TV in the summer

  5. 125-50

There is nothing better than when the Yanks are on YES. God help us Direct TV viewers when we have to watch NESN to see the game.

  6. Jabba Jr.

    I forgot 1 other factor:

4.) The Yanks are playing good, exciting baseball.

  7. E-ROC

    Go Yankees!

Believe it or not, the reason the Yankees are such a succesful franchise both on and off the field is because so many people love to watch the Yankees on t.v. Think about it…why are the Yankees so much richer than other teams in comparable markets like the Mets, Dodgers, Giants, and Red Sox? It’s because they have the best fan base.

That’s what pisses me off so much about revenue sharing…why should the money that we fans decide to spend on our team get sent to other ballclubs who’s fans don’t give a sh!t about their team???

I’ll never forget when I lived in Northern Cal. going to Game 5 of the Yanks-A’s series in 2000…the game was not nearly a sellout. Can you imagine a do or die deciding playoff game in Yankee stadium ever NOT being sold out???

    Let’s see

Reality shows or the hot Yankees

    Tough call

  10. DesignatedBlogger

Could be YES hyping the network to raise the price on the impending sale.

  11. susan mullen

Vince Doria has worked hard for this victory.

  12. Jim Clark

Just last month Bob Raissman was writing columns ob how YES officials were trembling in fear of bad ratings if the team was out of contention.

  13. Mysterjc

Great news for YES. Now all they need to do is trade Guiseppe Franco for a player to be named later!

    5) The weather in NYC was way too humid for people to enjoy the evening outdoors.

  15. Eric

I guess they don’t have to worry about a bad summer at YES.

  16. Aram

We draw the highest ratings on all channels … thats why networks cant wait to put our team on national tv … its guaranteed huge ratings

  17. Al Sleet

I completely ignored my fiancee’s talking about our upcoming wedding–less than 2 months away–to watch Joba’s 8th and 9th. It was literally the most glued to a Yankees game I’ve been since 2004.

Luckily she was between me and the TV, so I could look at her while watching the game in my peripheral vision!

Plus, Monday-Tuesday nights are a programming black hole during the summertime, even with digital cable. The Biography channel had some cool true-crime stories last night, but summer TV doesn’t get good until Wednesday nights and “So You Think You Can Dance” (really!)

  18. New Roc City

May just be me but the Yanks announcers on YES seem to be clicking lately too. Maybe its because the team is playing better

  19. Yanksrule57

    125-50,

I agree it really burns me about the MLB blackout rules. Be glad you don’t live in FL like I do because nearly all Yankee vs. D-Ray games are blacked out on DirectTV. The reason is FOX Sportsnet Florida is shared by the D-Rays and Marlins and the Marlins get priority. Forget about the fact that you can’t watch the away Yankee games on YES, Sheesh. Bud Selig was supposed to deal with this recently but I guess he will treat it like the steroid issue and wait ten years to fix the problem.

    Terror squad?

“May just be me but the Yanks announcers on YES seem to be clicking lately too”

its just you. nothing is more boring that listening to Leiter… well perhaps watching him pitch.

  22. BBB

Terror squad? A Big Pun reference?! You just made my afternoon! :D
