Abreu heating up in the summer sun

A couple of other tibits for you:

Bobby Abreu has 43 RBI since July 1, the most in the majors. He is hitting .365 since then. You have to give Joe Torre credit for sticking with him when the entire world (including me) wanted him out in May.

Melky Cabrera celebrated his 23rd birthday by extending his hitting streak to 16 games.

A-Rod has 39 homers and 114 RBI with 46 games left.

Derek Jeter is 73 of 188 (.388) at Jacobs Field in his career, the best of any player with at least 100 at-bats.

Two interesting charts:

All-time wins for managers
7. Joe McCarthy 2,126
8. Walter Alston 2,040
9. Joe Torre 2,038

All-time wins for Yankee managers
1. Joe McCathy 1.460
2. Casey Stengel 1,149
3. Joe Torre 1,144

This is amusing
Yankees 65-51
Mets 64-52

Finally, I wanted to close with this:

Remember Walter “Sonny” Kowalczyk, the Rutgers grad student who caught A-Rod’s 500th home run? Somebody representing him is calling area newspapers asking for money to interview and photograph him.

You want some cash from A-Rod? Sure. You want a few autographs? Go for it. But selling interviews about how you managed to catch a ball? No, thanks. As the All-American Rejects sing, move along. You’re at 14:58, Sonny. Cash out now.
