i didn't read all of the comments here, so forgive me if it's been posted already, but i think if we're going to have a long man/6th starter from here on out, it may as well be Igawa considering his salary and the fact that his one relief appearance (and a long one at that) was pretty good. maybe butterflies build up when he anticipates a start and job in the pen may be beneficial.

that said, what happened to edwar? i thought i read a post on this blog that he would probably be brought up at some point over the weekend? i was hoping to see him in cleveland.

Bruney should be back up soon. I kow he has to wait 10days to be called back up after he was optioned BUT you can DL someone to get him back sooner. All you have to do is DL Karstens for something like a sore forearm and then get Bruney back up ASAP. DFA Brower after that. Then call up Bruney and Edwar.

Kartstens does not suck, give the guy a break for god's sake after what he's been through this season. He had a bad night!

People have to tone it down sometimes, there is no such thing as a perfect team and jeez, you can't win everyday.

I feel sorry for your spouse's/signigficant others - you people have no patience for anybody! Do you kick them to the curb every mistake they make?

Ian Kennedy is better than Karstens, but the guy isn't anywhere near the elite pitching prospects that have been called up this year (Hughes, Lincecum, Gallardo, Chamberlain, Bailey, and Buchholz on Friday). He got hit around pretty good in his last start, too. I doubt they'll bring him up this year.

guys, if the Yankees felt Kennedy was ready, all they would have had to do was appeal until September. rosters expand and September call-ups do not count as option years. no service time issues, no option issues, and probably no 40 man roster issues as Brower is probably history.

so, there was another reason they didn't want him to pitch.

that reason is that they don't think he is ready.

let's move on.

I don't think bringing up Kennedy made much sense, but the "arbitration clock" we keep hearing isn't an issue. The only time that counts for service toward arbitration is time on the 25 man roster and the major league DL - for him that would have likely been 1 day, with a years' service calculated at 180 days. Meaningless, so not the reason.

The roster spot has more validity, but Reese and Basak are likely to be dropped sooner or later. 40 man space is also going to be required for Veras, Mientkiewicz, and Rasner (Veras in 2 days at the end of his 30 day rehab stint or he'll have to be DFA'd, which is possible) assuming the latter 2 are healthy before season's end. Might see action on Veras (off 60 day DL, option to Scranton where he's rehabbing now) in combo with a DFA for Brower.

The used option is the most salient issue. No pitcher comes with a guarantee, so using that for 1 start is something the org thinks long about.

Bruney can't be recalled until the 17th - gotta stay minimum 10 days on an option assignment barring an injury.

Karstens will be optioned cause the Yanks need fresh arms and he clearly needs more work, plus Scranton could use another starter right now, mainly due to poor performances from Ohlendorf who in no way is ready for the Show at present and has been demoted to the pen there!

Britton or Ramirez (likely Britton as he's more rested, has more "experience") and Henn (long relief potential and also more experience) are the likely choices. Has everyone forgotten Edwar's blow up in his last appearance for the Yanks - not completely fair because he hadn't pitched in 2 weeks, but I'm sure Joe and Cash remember it. I expect he'll see time in September, but do you think he's gonna be part of the postseason roster? I doubt that, but anything's possible, and if he shows he's ready I'll be yelling for him.

Carmine,
Villone is terrible. No way around it. Sean Henn could do the same craptastic job as him. Hell I could let every inherited runner score too if they threw me in there.

But yeah, exactly. Ohlendorf's supposed to have talent and he's young, but he's been getting knocked around in Triple A. Let him sort it out down there and bring up either Britton or Ramirez.
