Wow, Mo is really being hung out to dry here, thanks SJ44 for keeping everything in perspective. Mo is simply going through a rough spot, it's happenned before, nothing really new here. I'm as psyched about Joba as everyone else, but let's not get carried away, he is part of the solution, not the solution itself.

Meanwhile, I was at the game Tuesday, snagged myself a killer "Boston Sucks" shirt on River Ave... had great seats and weathered through the loss. We'll try to get up there again in September...

It totally amazes me on some of the things people say here. 99% of you would be fired within a week of managing the Yankees. The other 1% would be hung by the players on the first day. Joe Torre has been managing this team since 1996. He does make some mistakes but as a whole, he does a great job handling the egos and their agendas.
As far as Mo goes, things like this happen to every closer. Talk to Detroit about Jones....he has had a lot of bad games in the past month. This team will be fine, and if they don't win the division or wild card this year, they have a game plan to make this team better and better over the next few years.
Finally, its a game....enjoy watching and talking about them.

the issue isn't using mo today. the issue is what is wrong with him in general. his era is 3.50 something for 50 something innings.
open your eyes folks. this is not someone who has a 1.95 era who blew a couple of saves.
i hate the two seam fastball approach he's taking now. with the bases loaded with a right handed hitter up he's more likely to hit the batter than strike him out. mariano had a pitch in the cutter that was unhittable. if that pitch isn't there, i think it's time to look for a new closer.
i'd like to see him go back to pounding the cutter on batters on both sides of the plate. if they beat him they beat him. at least he's going down with his best pitch.
this new approach isn't working. time for a return to what works.

I hate baseball fans

A player messes up once or twice and people want to hang him

Chill out, Mo is just in a slump, there's no way he'll be like this the rest of the season

This Detroit series is very winnable.
Verlander v Moose
Robertson v Andy
Durbin v Clemens
Bonderman v Wang
I think Yanks have advantage in 3 out of 4. If Moose could come through tomorow, with the pitching the rest of the series set up the way it is, that would give them an awesome chance to take 3 of 4.

Good Things:

*Alex was 4 for 4.
*Edwar was a pleasant surprise
*Duncan came through at a big moment
*Hughes worked out of some jams
*Boston lost
*Dice-K did not have a good outing

Maybe it's a female thing, Rebecca, but I understand your brand of logic. Mine is similar. The thoughts are coherent, but sometimes the wording is just -- well, a lot of words to say a little. Woulda, coulda, shoulda just don't work. And you don't EVER know what mightabeen. They coulda put Joba in there, and he coulda done just as poorly.

The Orioles have the Yankees' number this year, for whatever reason. I'm only worried because they play them the last three games of the season, and I'm praying that whether it's the wild card or the division, those 3 games aren't important.

The only other thing that has me concerned about this game (and last night) is that, once again, tough pitchers were able to completely shut down the offense - at least until today's ninth. My hope is it's the Orioles' good pitching and not good pitching in general.

They've done well against the Tigers in the past (playoffs notwithstanding), so I am hopeful for the upcoming series. But now, 3 of 4 becomes necessary to have a winning homestand.

BJ--

Hiya back atcha.

I agree. Mo is once in forever. I've grown up with him as my favorite player on the Yankees. Not Derek Jeter, not Tino Martinez, but Mo. (When the Yankees lost in 2001 I cried (and I mean BAWLED) for a half hour in bed. My parents didn't get why I was so upset!)

I wasn't so much consumed with what might have happened as trying to point out that we don't know what could have happened because it didn't happen, so, there's no use worrying about it. I guess I need to work on my articulation?

It was the right decision to bring in Mo today.

Oh, and you shouldn't look at me for logic. I'm not really known for that ;)
