Dear Mike,
Could you please call Wang and give him a pep talk?
Thank you.
it’s sad to see them pass on. Let’s win it all this year for George, Mike, and Miguel.
lol, Chris, you make it sound like they died.
laying it on a lil thick there huh chris.
Here is some Steve Phillips brilliance
“We are only gonna know if Jober Chamberlain (yes, he said Jober) is gonna pitch well in the post season when we see him fail and he shows he can bounce back from it”
Yes, I too am wondering how this guy ever got a job as a GM on a MLB team, nevermind ESPN. I cant believe the Mets hired this guy
Hey Go NYR
I got one that will top that. While getting ready for work I heard him say that the Yanks would be fools not to trade Hughes, Chamberlin and Melky to the Twins for Santana.
Peter nice insight on Wang…
He is a smart coachable guy sohopefully he makes the adjustment..
whywould th chisox sign myers he is 38 and they are going absolutely no where.
I wish myers and cano well they are good guys but did not fit in…
the Yankee team now looks a lot better then it did in spring training …..
It’s kind of revealing that Cairo couldn’t get a ML job.
It’s obvious that anything Phillips says can be disregarded, as he’s clearly the guy ESPN told to make outlandish statements for controversy’s sake.
i’m glad those guys found jobs, they both seem like nice guys. i’m also glad they no longer play for the Yankees.
If/when they come to play against us at Yankee Stadium, be sure to give them a loud round of applause.
And think Harold Reynolds was canned for some sort of ( sexual ? )misconduct which ESPN has been very quiet about since Reynolds went public with his denials……Now we get BS from a bitter anti-Yankee former Met GM, who has a knack for always being wrong….No one ever brings up the point that he signed not only a damaged Mo Vaughn, but also a over the hill Robby Alomar…..And this schmuck ripped Cashman for not trading our 4th outfielder ( at best in his words)Melky or a rising starting pitcher Ian Kennedy….I know several local scouts out here in Southern Cal, who all remember him as the least knowledgable GM they’ve ever known…..Two of thses gents have been in the game for over 40 years…..
I will Marvelous Miguel Cairo dearly. He was one of the spark plugs when Doug went down that stepped up bigtime.
Hopefully this will not be the last time we see Cairo in pinstripes!
LOL…Hopefully it is !!!!! ^^^
Good luck Miguel don’t come back to NY but good luck and thanks for filling in.
As for Mike Myers screw you !, I never liked you and that stupid underhand pitching style, moving from one side to another, not K’ing LHB, now your in Chicago IDK what they saw in you but good luck w/ your career.
Well on the radio, Phillips went on and on about the Angels and the Braves. How their offenses were going to get them to the post-season. Not one peep about the number one offense in the majors. Talks about Tex & Chipper protecting each other, but says nothing about Bobby & Alex. Apparently our offense is not enough to overcome our horrid pitching.
I nearly went into road rage when he called Melky a 4th outfielder again. What does that make Damon who has already condeded the job? A 5th outfielder? He wants the Yankees to give up 3 or 4 excellent young pitchers for one that’s going to take the ball every 5th day? I think Phillips wants us to do that so everyone will laugh at Cashman five years down the line instead of lampooning him.
Yeah, let’s root for weakening the team.
Mel trust me if we do what I think we can , Steve Philips better steer clear of Yankee Stadium because we aren’t forgetting how he’s still giddy about his perdiction last season.
I think Steve Phillips knows well that he is a dead man walking should he dare to appear on the streets of New York.
Steve Phillips still harbors and always will anomosity towards the Yanks…..Mostly of course due to the thrashing his Mets endured in the 2000 W.S. at the hands of the Bombers…..But also torwards the acollades that follow Cashman and the club, he and his Mets were and always be second fiddle in NYC….He hates that and his resentments surface all the time on the air……How he landed this gig is beyond me…….Now that Melky is making him look for of a bafoon that he already was, it’s time for Joba & Ian Kennedy to serve him a plate of s——…..
Oh, c’mon. You guys can’t be serious about Steve Phillips.
We can all agree that he is probably wrong more often than any baseball analyst in the business, but the threats and “dead man walking” hyperbole is stupid and moronic.
He predicted the Yanks wouldn’t make the post-season this year, but he said the same thing about the Mets just last week.
Get over it, already.
I make my own preseason picks every year like a lot of baseball fans do – but it doesn’t mean that I hate an organization if I pick against them.
Viper: His words, not mine
The Wrong Zambrano and Scott Kazmir say hello.
Viper this hack rips the Yanks at every turn….If an oppurtunity presents itself, this hump is all over it…..He resents the Yanks…..That’s alright, teams and players and fans and media have been taking shots at the Bronx Bombers for 80 years now…..It’s a born given birth right to be a Yankee fan…..THE PEONS are always taking cheap shots, and always will……
It’s good to see Mike Myers and Cairo hook onton teams. LOL, the White Sox definitely need Myers.
Steve Phillips predicted on April 1st that the Yankees would win the World Series. He has since changed his mind after seeing the Yankees stumble out of the gate.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....xpertpicks
Steve Phillips is always negative. He’ll praise the Yankees for about 30 seconds, then second guess whatever weak areas. He can’t go a day saying something positive about the Yankees when the Yankees are obviously winning and have the momentum. That’s the type of crap that annoys me. I dislike him just as much as I dislike Merril Hodge.
I don’t know that his problem is so much a bias against the Yankees, as much as, he just has a complete lack of common sense when it comes to baseball. How he became an MLB GM is beyond me. His disastrous tenure with the Mets is proof as to why he has no credibility as an analyst with ESPN…
But for some reason Steven A. Smith describes Phillips as “ESPN GM Extraordinare.” Maybe he’s just as dumb as Phillips or maybe he’s just being sarcastic.
I saw Phillips on EPSN one morning say that both the Yankees and Mets would not make the playoffs. He went on and on about how both teams pitching wasn’t good enough and you need pitching to make the playoffs. 2 seconds later he said the rockies will make the playoffs because they have great offense and you cant stop great offense. Make up your mind dude. BTW good job signing Roger Cedeno and trading Scott Kazmir
I hate Phillips but he wasn’t the GM that traded Kazmir
my fault. he still sucks and made many other bad deals
I think Phillips is mad that George fixed the vistors club house at Shea after it was flooded.
Seriously the guy is a moron, I question everyday how a person who failed as a GM, now has a job as an analysit of teams.
Melky a 4th outfielder? He has been out cf’er for almost a year now and we’ve won with him out there.
I heard on the radio that Mussina noticed a flaw in Mo’s delivery and pointed it out to him.
I guess that makes one thing Mussina can do well
Good luck to Cairo and Myers (except against the Yanks). I think the next time we see Cairo in pinstripes it will be as a coach.
Phillips suffers from pinstripe envy.
Philips was the GM that slowed Jose Reyes’s developement also signed Mo Vaughn and Roberto Alomar. He did draft Reyes and Wright but he also bought Kaz Matsui & let Bobby V go.
Seeing that Joba is dominating hitters in the bigs. Why arent we talking about Kennedy being a starter next year. He has similar numbers if not better than Joba had in AAA.
I would try to find a taker for Moose and get Ian to take his spot.
Also I am very impressed with Ramirez. He reminds me of k-rod when it comes to the emotions he shows out there. I think with him Whelan,Cox and Sanchez our bullpen looks bright for the future.
Do we get draft picks for Meyers and Cairo or any players in return?
Phillips says some things that are quite annoying to a Yankees fan, but he wouldn’t be any more useful as a commentator if he were saying things that Yankees fans wanted to hear. What he really highlights for me is the vapidness of that kind of on-air commentary, where a guy just blurts out one or two lines about a team without giving the viewer any real analysis to support what he’s saying. Simply asserting that a team won’t make the playoffs because their offense will cool off or they don’t have enough pitching doesn’t enhance anybody’s understanding of the playoff races. To be truly informed, a fan needs to watch the games, study the box scores, read blogs like this, etc. Guys like Phillips just provide filler for a highlights show.
SoS27,
Umm, no we don’t get anything for Myers or Cairo as they were released and were not traded.
steve phillips is indeed a hack; he has openly trashed the yankees on every possible occasion, probably because of past grudges. but he is not that far off in his predictions: the yankees are not in first place in the division, and the wild card race is gonna be a close one and the yankees might not pull through.
however, he takes a similar approach to the mets, saying that their pitching won’t get them to the playoffs at all, despite their current first place position.
but for him to say definitively that neither team will make the playoffs just shows his ineptitude and bias in the broadcast booth. he’s a prick.
